IT’S OUT TODAY! “Can’t Trust Your Eyes” represents for me a successful marriage between pure rock n’ roll energy, and a heavily lyrical songwriting approach. Whereas a tune like “Give Yourself” has a total of about 25 words, this one has 10 different verses/stanzas, followed by only 1 chorus, at the end. The music is repetitious and rather simple, and it always impresses me how much ppl enjoy hearing the tune live, even though it doesn’t give them a chorus every thirty seconds. I’ve structured some songs as a pyramid, well this one is definitely a ramp: Building anticipation towards a final explosion and calling it a day. No messing around with going to the chorus and coming back, lol. This also sets us up for the lyrical style, which is basically “enumerative” — a list of things.
