If you’re a Mopar nut, or just a fan of muscle cars in general, this book will scratch that itch. Jim delves into the history of the marketing genius behind the Scat Pack and Rapid Transit System cars, clubs, parts and accessories that made the Mopar muscle cars stand out even more. Chapters 1 through 9 deal with the ‘60s and ‘70s cars, while chapter 10 turns to modern Mopar muscle with the rebirth of Scat Pack starting in model year 2014. Throughout, this book is chock full of vintage photos and advertisements, adding rich visual detail to a fun read. I have a lot of different interests, but my two main ones have to be watches and #cars. I've known about the Competition brand for a while, but I hadn't bought one as most are really beat up (from guys working on their cars, maybe?), not working, or both. On my usual vintage-and-obscure hunt I stumbled across one that was in it's display case, came with the box and the warranty card. Essentially the "full kit". I snapped it up. It came in today, and if you told me it was brand new, I'd believe you. Apart from an age spot on the dial, it is in remarkable condition. Nary a mark or ding anywhere. The chromed case shines very bright, and picks up fingerprints easily. Unlike a lot of people, I really like the expansion band it came with, although I have swapped it for a black leather "lizard". The display back is a nice touch, too. It is a one piece front loader containing a "Qualco" 114UBB. I believe #Qualco was a company selling #Seiko movements to third parties as searches bring that info to light, and the movement has a remarkable similarity to the #UTC 29, which is derived from the Seiko 6600 line. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. From my limited research it seems Competition was registered by different companies. West End Watch/Droz in 1938 and #Benrus in 1959. I am apt to believe this is a Benrus produced model as the warranty card mentions Capital watches as well, another marque registered by Benrus in 1959. This #Ringo from the late 1950s or early 1960s contains a #Lorsa 238 hand wound 17 jewel movement. Measuring in at 33mm, it is definitely vintage style. Swipe for all the pics. Many of my followers know that i'm a huge @Timex fan. This #Christmas my son gifted me with the 40th Anniversary Easy Reader, a watch I've had my eye on for a while. #Timex did a fantastic job on this one. It has the classic white no-date dial with arabic numerals, black hands and red seconds. Timex then went all out and put it on a very nice, and soft, co-ordinating black, red and white leather strap with black and red keepers. They also added nice touches like the T signed crown, 40th imprint on the case back, and special branding on the strap. All-in-all, a pretty special piece. However, the pièce de résistance is definitely the #Indiglo. Rich in color, and bright, with the wonderful surprice of the number 40 appearing when activated. This morning's watch is one of the oldest in my collection; an Ingersoll Wrist circa 1935. An early everyman watch, the genre the Waterbury Clock Company would later successfully dominate the global market with after introducing #Timex in 1950. This cost $3.50 when new, the #Radiolite version was $4.00. The main focus of my collection is hand and automatic winding mechanicals, but I do apprieciate quartz now and then. This one came in today. #London by Porsamo Bleu. Even though this is from a fashion brand, it contains decent specs. It is all stainless steel with a #Miyota OS00 12 hour #chronograph movment, #sapphire coated crystal, screw down scrown, 100m water resistance, and a solid link double deployment bracelet.
