Let’s talk about fandoms (more specifically Sanders Sides fandom)

Let’s talk about this fandom and all the stuff that I’ve realized over the past year or so when I was watching it from far, far away.

Recently I shared a delightful conversation with @ellistruggle . we talk about our wonderful experiences with sanders sides, and all the happy memories we made in this fandom. we talk about content consumers that hype things you post and about the ever-so-loving community.

And somewhere along the lines, we wondered - well, if that’s the case then what exactly went wrong. Why we (both of us but I feel like many people can relate to this) seemed to drift away from the fandom over the past few months, years.

The answer is simple: the lack of official content.

And while I don’t blame Thomas or the team for the less frequent updates etc, it is bound to effect the fandom one way or another. People like being fed, as simple as that.

“But we have content creatores!” sure, sure that is true. But if there’s one thing that I learned it’s that it’s hard to thrive solely on fancontent. That’s the reason why so many fandoms go dormant after the series or show stop airing - the hype dies, there’s nothing ‘official” to thrive on.

Now, as Ellie and I talked more we reached the bitter-sweet conclusion that it does feel… odd to just stop creating for fandom that was a huge part of your life. Especially when it comes to Sanders Sides - a space so warm and loving that helped so many people. It’s hard to think of oneself as a past member of said fandom. It’s not like you stopped loving it, you’re not… not there anymore. 

And here’s the thing:

If your heart’s not in it, it’s alright to let it go.

This is fandom, a space where you can happily enjoy your free time. This is not your job, not your duty. If you’re a content creator, you are free to stop creating whenever you can. No one should demand from you to keep creating stuff that you don’t want to.

Don’t try anchoring yourself like “oh, but this fandom helped me a lot, I gotta stay here”. Yes, this fandom helped you a lot. Now, it’s okay to let go if you feel like you don’t feel it anymore. This fandom wouldn’t want you to simply existing in it just because you’re used to it. Don’t feel guilty. Don’t feel sad. Don’t let this strange guilt turn your memories of this fandom into something bitter and sour. It’s not worth it, believe me.

Nowadays, almost every show and every book have a fandom, most of them are being constantly flooded with official content. It’s alright if you choose to make any of these fandoms your new home. It’s a hobby, you should enjoy it.

It’s truly alright to let it go and simply keep a fandom, your past fandom, as something dear to your heart.

I know that I will.

Blog Update: Moving On

Hey, it's Ying! First off, yes I did change the blog handle from ying-scribbles to ying-sides. Secondly, I'm here to announce that I will not be making any more Sander Sides art.

There's no real reason behind this decision except for the fact that I have no more motivation to draw anything Sander Sides related. I'm sorry to anyone who's still waiting for that TS Puppet History AU comic, it'll forever be a WIP unfortunately. I still love this series but I have moved on from this fandom.

Heya! So to celebrate Logan’s B-Day I thought it would be fun to draw a whole bunch of Logan interpretations/AUs from the community!!  I added two differently highlighted pics to hopefully make it easier to see everybody. >///<

As fun as it was, I did eventually have to make the executive decision to stop at a grand total of 20! (19 versions + OG Logan!) ^///^ But I’m gonna spend the rest of his birthday drawing a couple others as well, but that’ll have to wait till morning! o///o

⚠ Hiatus Notice! ⚠

Hey, it’s been a while since I’ve last posted, huh? About a month to be more precise,, School is keeping me busy and I haven’t been in a fanart mood for Sander Sides for a bit now... So I’m calling a hiatus!

When will I get back? In a week? A month? More? I’m not sure. I’ll probably be back when I get the motivation to draw more content so yeah. Will I ever finish that TS Puppet History AU comic? Someday yes, but that’s for a later date.

Anyway, thanks for almost 40 followers now! Even though you probably won’t see this in your main feed, see you later~ (o*￣▽￣*)ノ

Virgil, don’t touch the goo-

Here’s my entry for @schioriscribblz’s (on Insta) 3K DTIYS/contest! I had a lot of fun with this drawing (process under the cut) and even experimented with a bit of soft shading on the skin- I really love how it came out haha, especially the patches because those were a pain-

Have some final sketches (the panels are all roughly sketched out but I need to flesh them out before I even get to lining) of a TS Puppet History AU comic I’m slowly working on currently.

Also, a casual Janus? Yes.

Professor Logan! Taking some creative liberties with the set but you’ll see the changes later in colour. Nearly forgot the curtain so quickly added that. (the column is kinda bleh but I’ll fix it later haha)

Janus is standing in as Ryan and Virgil as Steven in this but they don’t directly correlate to be honest. Anyhow- (also, you’ll notice the chair is a lot more simplified for my sanity’s sake)

Oh shoot it a gif- I thought moving the eyebrows would be cool and it was. (I could also “animate” the arms but maybe later aha,,)

Anyway, I’ll keep revealing all the panels right here just ‘cause.

Logan angst incoming-

Did a DTIYS by @afterartist (on Insta, check them out!). There were originally feathers but I changed them to leaves/petals (?) and added sea plants. Is it Hanahaki disease? I dunno, you decide- To be honest, I’m kinda on the fence with this drawing. I don’t really like it or dislike it. Maybe because I got super demotivated over the weekend and didn’t draw anything for a bit so it’s not the best. Anyhow, here it is. (Click for better resolution.)

TS Puppet History AU? I’m all for it-

A little reference for what the Professor (Prof. Logan) looks like, plus a bonus drawing of Patton snuggling his puppet form hehe. And yes, that is indeed a Crofter’s jar in his satchel. (although it would be just as chaotic if it was literally just a pile of jam dhjdhjdk)

Okay, I need to address this.

If you’ve reblogged the original version of my POC Roman post, PLEASE TAKE IT DOWN. 

I had good intentions but bad execution of supporting both the racebending of the Sides and the BLM movement. I have realized too late that connecting fandom matters to real life serious issues is wrong. I’m sorry for those who felt uncomfortable. 

I removed all mention of the movement in my post. But the damage is done since so many of you guys out there already reblogged the original post. So please, help me to share this around.

A little help please?

Okay, I am getting very mixed signals right now.

Some people are saying to not tag POC Sides as part of BLM and to not connect fandom matters with serious issues, which I totally understand. I’m POC myself (Chinese, to be specific) and I don’t want to overstep anyone. Fandom stuff is, in the end, fandom stuff.

I removed the tags and mentions of BLM in my Roman posts (the gif and the flags) but now here’s the issue: Should I remove the links or the post? 

Others have said that if you’re “joining the trend,” to at least include some form of link so people can help. Which is the complete opposite of the other statement. So please help me to help you.

I can’t exactly repost the gif because people have already reblogged the original one that contains the links. So what do I do?

I hate to bother y’all but thoughts?

I totally forgot today was Roman’s birthday / first appearance anniversary but I’ll post something just for him in a second, hold on,, 

Part two of drawing Thomas’ and my sides together, here’s the Creatitwins and human!Impulse! Went a bit simple for this one but yes it is based off of that mom in the airport with two kids on leashes-

Impulse nyooms around, gets distracted very easily, and gets the most random ideas (including intrusive thoughts-) and Remus, well, is Remus so putting the two together is not a good idea. (ˉ▽ˉ ”)

(I couldn’t fit in the eyeball and the shoulder ruffles in the full piece, sorry- I love one stinky trash man but his outfit is a mess to draw,,)
