10 freaking fish tanks with various critters, and for some reason the goshdang Molly tank is my fave to watch right now.

Plants have been doing great. Trimmed and spread them out once, but they're already ready for another trim. Molly waste = plant joy

I was worried they wouldn't do as well after I changed the lighting. Was getting annoyed with the lights I mounted to the lid not staying put (also, SO MUCH BLUE)... so I removed the entire lid and mounted different lights to the shelf above, which was lowered. Shelf can be pushed up from the center like a lid anyway.

Can't believe I caught the 1 lonely baby Molly in this. I think it managed to make it past the size the adults care to cannibalize? Just be chilling in the open now. Almost sucked it up during a water change right before this..... lol. Woulda been tragic to survive the horrors of your bazillion siblings being eaten alive directly after birth, only for me to suck you up with a siphon... like, oops.

Edit: Omg, he ain't alone. Rewatched the video and saw a second in the background with him. All this time I thought I was seeing the same single baby by themselves over and over.

Massive update! Inkblot and Spot surprisingly gave birth to many more babies. More than I could handle in the little attachable breeder box! It took a few weeks to cycle, but I have an established 5 gallon tank which is the new home of all the babies (and future ones as well). The plan is to foster the baby mollies until they're 1.5 inches long, which is when my LFS is willing to take them. Once my adults are done giving birth, maybe I'll convert the 5 gallon into a shrimp tank? Well see. It's been a crazy but fun adventure. This is what I get for falling in love with live bearers, I suppose. 🐟

BIG NEWS! As it turns out, when I purchased Inkblot, she was pregnant! I thought her belly was getting quite large, but didn't think pregnancy was possible, as everyone in the tank is female; it turns out molly gestate for 60 days, and I have only owned Inkblot for about one month.

I was shocked to discover two black baby fish hiding in the floating water sprite this afternoon. I rushed to the store and bought a protective breeder box for them. I was not expecting to ever raise fry, but I will do my best!

As a side note, I wonder if Inkblot was waiting to give birth until she felt safe. Maybe another good reason I surrendered Speckle.

All is not well, fish friends. Speckle's aggression has been steadily increasing, and today I discovered Inkblot has fin damage. 😢 The only explanation I can think of is Speckle nipping her. I've decided it is probably best to surrender Speckle for the others' safety. I hope she does well in someone else's tank.
