When was the last time you've had sex?
“I am quite sure that’s none of your concern.”

Do you think you have the potential of finding love?
“I don’t believe that’s any of your business. But I would say that I’m yet undecided on that. Time will tell I suppose, and I’ve plenty of it.”

Meg sighed and sent him a look. Just a small one because, although the coffee was waking her up, she was still partly asleep and lacking the energy for more fire. Also, she wasn’t all that irritated with him. As much as she hated the facts, they were that he’d been decent to her the night before – more than decent – and she’d probably unintentionally be cutting him slack for a while to come. “Is that a standing thing?” She rose to refill her coffee and asked him if he wanted more with a glance instead of words. “You know, we should probably come up with some kind of a shorthand for the sake of privacy, too. I’m not the only one who needs it and you’re not the only one who could be grossed out. I know you’re not exactly celibate.”
“Aye, I believe it is.” At least, he wouldn’t be saying any differently. They had their silent understandings, and as long as they continued, he saw no reason to actually speak of them. He gave the lightest nod of his head and slid his cup to her as she filled her own coffee. “I won’t be bringing anyone to the apartment, love. Whatever your practices may be, a shared space is not the place to be engaging in such activities.”

“I am aware that you hold it above all else. Perhaps I can steal your hook instead? What would they call you then?”
“What do you have need of a hook for?”

“You certainly look as though you’re going to steal something.”

“All I’m shooting for is long enough that my son isn’t an orphan. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, personally, but I might be wrong.”

“You’re right, how oblivious of me. Except during the chat, three left the bar. One’s on the dance floor. And three just finished their liquor. Seven empty glasses never looked so lonely.”
Hook held up his own glass, just to show how empty it was. “And one is left totally dry. Perhaps you should fill it.”
