"common refrain, where's waldo? where is waldo? in times of war, where's waldo? people are dying in the streets, where the fuck is waldo? i'll tell you where he is. hiding on the goddamn beach somewhere. i can't find him. what kind of ally is that?"

What I'm saying is that Gilear didn't just find out his wife cheated on him, he also discovered he was going to outlive his daughter by centuries. Tiefling typically only live a few years longer than humans, which is a far cry from the life span he expected for Fig. Do you think he's ever processed that grief? Do you think Fig has? Do you think any of her parents sat her down and talked to her about what that meant for her? idk I have some feelings about it.

“Why did you follow this person ? uwu”
I’ve been here for fourteen years, do you think I remember? I don’t know who any of these people are anymore. I don’t know why they’re on my dash. I allow them to stay because they haven’t pissed me off enough to unfollow them yet. “Why did you follow this person?” I’m not sure I ever did. They’re just part of my ecosystem now.

The guy whose special interest is “survival cannibalism”… his knowledge has really helped the group out of some unthinkable situations, but, it hasn’t endeared him to us. He’s sort of a foul weather friend. And he’s got that “when all you have is a hammer, every problem you see is a nail” mentality.

Normalize going into people’s ask boxes and ask them random ass questions.
Tumblr used to be so much fun with all the asks (anonymous or otherwise), and we need to bring those back, especially now that we finally have a half-decent blocking feature in place.
Ask people things! Message them! Don’t let tumblr inbox die! It’s one of the features that made tumblr tumblr.

[NOTE because I'm talking about sounds here which are hard to convey over the transcript I'm including symbols from the international phonetic alphabet. They'll also include a brief description of what the sound is, which is not included in the original audio. Anything in square brackets is not included in the audio]
Transcript:
"Okay, so I'm going to expand on this because it's linguistically interesting. So the poll isn't incorrect, but it's only correct to specific dialects. In- in some British English speaking dialects, including the one that I use, the "aw" makes an ɒ [open back rounded vowel] sound, as in "awning, awful, awesome" [pronounced using ɒ].
But the "ɒ" noise I'm using there doesn't exist in a lot of American dialects. What they use for that "aw" is an ɑ [open back unrounded vowel] noise, as in "awning, awful, awesome" [pronounced using ɑ], right?"
So if you're looking at A W N T in those American dialects, the sound that it's making is ɑnt, which is very similar to the "aunt" that a lot of people who don't pronounce it "ant" would say.
But if you're looking at it in those British speaking dialects, that A W N T makes an "ɒnt" noise, which is really, really different from "ɑnt". Like, "ɒnt", "ɑnt", "ɒnt", "ɑnt". They're just- they're- they're very different sounds"

I think we could solve a lot of discourse if people just internalised the fact that there is a difference between "This is important to do" and "You should feel ashamed if you aren't doing this".
For example: "It is important for your health to brush your teeth twice a day" is a different statement to "You should feel ashamed if you don't brush your teeth twice a day".
"Doing a small amount of something every day is important to developing a skill" is not the same statement as "you should feel ashamed if you aren't managing to do this every day".
"Taking short walks is beneficial to your mental well being" is not the same things as "You should be ashamed if you spend your day indoors"
The inverse of this is that "You shouldn't feel ashamed for not accomplishing these things" is not the same statement as "Your life will not be negatively impacted by not doing these things." Often there will be negative affects from this, I just don't think you should be piling shame on top of them. The shame should be attributed to the system that has failed people so badly that they don't have the support structures in place that would either make these things possible, or mitigate their long term impacts.
It is important to acknowledge the negative impacts. It is also important not to shame yourself for them. I'm having a really hard time showering regularly at the moment, for a variety of reasons. That's not my fault, and I shouldn't feel bad about it. But the lack of showering does affect my life in ways that I can't self love away. More frequent showering is a goal I am working towards, because it matters.
When you see someone talking about one of these issues and it rubs you the wrong way, consider for a moment whether you are conflating the statement they are making with a different statement. Self care and health are very complicated, but we can't fix them by yelling at people for things they didn't say.

This is so frustrating because the way I would pronounce "awnt" is REALLY different from how I pronounce "aunt". I know what the question they're asking is but it's such a different noise that I can't bring myself to choose it as a response. It's more of an "ahnt" if anything. It's phonetically identical to "aren't" (rhotic r users dni)

Listen, I know that it's a slippery slope and it never stops at the porn ban, and the whole "queer stuff is also treated as porn" thing but forget all that for a minute. I need you to understand that even if the only thing they did was ban what everyone could definitively agree was porn from everywhere that would still be bad.
I am saying this as a fully sex repulsed asexual, as someone who does not and cannot engage with pornographic material, porn should be allowed to exist on the internet. People should be have a safe space to distribute and access pornograhy. Do I want spaces without it to chill in? For sure! Do I want it removed from everywhere? No!
I understand people's fears here, but shouting down anyone saying "it's just porn" by insisting it won't stop at porn is really overlooking the fact that banning "just porn" is also a bad thing. If you support sex workers, you also have to support porn! If you support healthy sexual activity, you have to support porn! Please stop throwing porn under the bus in your arguments!
