I'm re-reading the Discworld series for reasons, and honestly the most relatable part of reading these as an adult is how many of the protagonists start out being tired, used to their little routine and vaguely disgruntled by the interruption of the Plot. Sam Vimes wants to lie drunk in a gutter and absolutely doesn't want to be arresting dragons. Rincewind is yanked into every situation he's ever encountered, though he'd much rather be lying in a gutter too. (Minus the alcohol. Plus regretting everything he's ever done said witnessed or even heard about fourth-hand in his whole life.) Granny Weatherwax is deeply suspicious of foreign parts and that includes the next town over; Nanny has leaned into the armor of "nothing ever happens to jolly grannies who terrorize their daughters-in-law and make Saucy Jokes"

Only the young people don't seem to have picked up on this---and that's fortunate, because someone has to run around making things happen, if only so Vimes and Granny and Rincewind have a reason to get up (complaining bitterly the whole time) and put it all to rights. Without Carrot, Margrat, Eric, etc. these characters don't have that reason; they're likely to stay in the metaphorical gutter and keep wondering where it all went wrong or why anything has to change.

............well, that's not quite true. You get the sense that Vetinari knows how much certain people hate the Plot. And as the person sitting behind the metaphorical lighting board of Ankh-Morpork, he takes no small pleasure in forcing the Plot-haters specifically to stand up, and say some lines.

Much like Welcome to Nightvale, I feel like a lot of people have forgotten just how big and influential Yuri on Ice was. It fully broke into the mainstream. It was everywhere. Evgenia Medvedeva, the top female figure skater in 2016 and 2017, had YOI plushies thrown to her on the ice and wore a Victuuri tshirt to an interview. Japanese pair skaters Miu Suzaki and Ryuichi Kihara skated to the YOI theme at the fucking Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics. The Olympics. Canadian ice dancer Joseph Johnson did the ‘J.J. Style’ hand symbol in the kiss and cry. Johnny Weir made me cry by talking about how he wished the homophobic world of figure skating he experienced could have been more like the kinder world of Yuri on Ice.

There were cameos and references to it everywhere. Everyone was talking about it. People who had never watched anime were watching it. It was so big it crashed Crunchyroll and Tumblr. Twice. And all that for what was at its core, a queer love story that helped pave the way for more queer stories to come.

I am not a KaiShin shipper, but looking at the whole mess with my OC Campari in it, Detective Conan just turns into one huge family drama.

Bc, Campari is Kaito's half-sister, her mother is Vermouth's sister, so she is Vermouth's niece. She is also engaged to Gin and with this whole Kaito and Shinichi are cousins thing, that makes her Shinichi's cousine, too, but it also makes Gin Shinichi's... cousin-in-law???? Also Vermouth is his aunt, andandand...

IMAGINE A FAMILY MEETING! The mess! Also Shinichi not knowing that Campari is his cousine, that he was always so close to Gin if he just looked more at his family...

Yeah, this prob doesn't make sense to anybody except me and the few people who actually read anything from that AU, but I am just laughing and crying about this revelation.

I just live for the fact that Campari may have known this all along what is the reason she always looked after Conan, not only bc he kinda is her test subject, but also bc he's family. I mean, I MADE HER LIVE IN THE SAME STREET AS SHINICHI.

This is just so incredible funny to me. The opportunities, the possibilities...
