I am wondering what else draws you to the film "Hair Love" that you recently posted about?
It’s simply a beautifully told story. I love that it is told with no dialogue except for the instructional video that we hear. And it brings attention to the idea that hair is part of an African-American woman’s (and this little girl’s) identity, both in her struggle to style it in ways that are “acceptable” to a white, patriarchal society and in her desire to look pretty for her mother, which is every girl and woman’s wish.

Film 4000K - I found an article that discusses Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 film Roma.  I love the film itself, but I will not comment here on how I actually feel about the article. I share it here as an example of what I hope to do in the future, analyzing film and becoming a published writer.

This won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. I got to see it online this morning, and it’s wonderful.

What's your opinion of Tumblr as a social platform?
So far, it just seems like a public place to post your thoughts. Other than getting a few questions like this, I haven’t really seen how it’s connecting me with people or furthering my career.

Film 4000K - I have just applied for a job as a Technical Writer/Trainer at a college at which I already work. I hope my writing skills, my experience in Information Technology, the fact that I have already worked at the college for nine years, and the fact that I am finally finishing my Bachelor’s Degree will help me get a new position.

Film 4000K - Here is the list of Academy Award winners for 2020. We seem to making a few strides in the inclusion of international filmmakers (baby steps, I suppose), but we still cannot seem to take enough steps toward inclusion of all types of people. Perhaps next year’s hashtag should be #OscarSoMale.

Film 4000K - Don’t get me wrong. I love watching the Oscars. But I do not let them determine for me what movies are good and worthy of attention. So many great films and filmmakers go unrecognized by the Academy. This list is proof of that.

People I know often wonder why I go to Walt Disney World so often. “Haven’t you seen it all yet? Don’t you get tired of it?” I just visited the parks in October of last year, and already two new rides have opened (or will be open on March 4). Disney is always adding new experiences, whether they be new blockbuster rides like these, a new restaurant, or just a new tasty snack. And, even the things I have experienced already are so wonderful that I want to do them again and again. So, that’s why I keep going back.

Self-aggrandizing post here. I wrote a paper for a Gender and Film class, and I’m quite happy with how it turned out. If you’re so inclined, please read and let me know if you have any comments.

I love the title of the blog now, what inspired the name?
As I was trying to think of a name, someone annoyed me at work. Plus, after my “Sole Mates” script, I’ve been on a pun kick lately. :-) So I just went with what popped into my head.

Film 4000K - Picture pulled from /Film.com
During last night’s Super B... (ahem) “Big Game,” Disney+ aired a commercial previewing its upcoming Marvel shows, The Falcon and Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki. What little footage they showed looked exciting, but I am most excited for WandaVision. Based on what I have seen and heard, it has the most potential to be both funny and heartbreaking at the same time. No actual release date has been announced for any of these shows other than later this year, but I will be ready on release day, whenever that is.

Film 4000K - I love Turner Classic Movies all the year long, but especially during Oscars month. Their lineup of movies, morning, noon, and night, are some of the best of old Hollywood. My DVR often gets close to being full. In the first week alone, we are treated to Billy Wilder’s The Apartment, Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, and Stanley Donen’s Singin’ in the Rain.

I’ve never seen Barbarella, but this is a great shot. The costuming is important here. Is she more in charge of her feminism than the woman in the painting, or is she subject to the same restrictions? Barbarella’s clothing may be more revealing, but did she choose this? Or, is she wearing what men want her to wear just like the woman in the painting?

Film 4000K - The Nerdwriter does fun and insightful video essays that analyze film, television, pop culture, and even political figures. This one about intertextuality is especially good since it not only defines intertextuality but shows us how Hollywood uses it well and why the overuse of it is problematic. The concept of intertextuality is especially relevant to modern film studies precisely because it is used so much.
