Can you explain more about the ‘you let me be quiet’ in your fic Tawang? I think it says a lot about Smita and Tobias’ relationship but was curious about your thoughts. Also, would you ever write about Tobias visiting Smita?

If we know anything about Tobias, it's that he feels the need to be performing almost all the time. He's the funny one. The snarky one. The one who keeps things interesting. He really doesn't get a lot of time to just be, mostly because he's pretty scared what people might notice about him or what he might himself feel if he did. The fact that Smita lets him be quiet says a lot about how safe she makes him feel, that with her, he doesn't have to pretend.

I have a vague idea in my head of some things that happened on that visit, but I don't think I'll ever write it, to be honest.

What was Ginny doing in the ritual in ch. 7 of pick it up? I’ve read this a few times, and despite convincing myself I’m not stupid, I still have no idea which bind she was breaking, or what the purpose was. Is it related to the Parlor?

I think I probably ended up being a bit too subtle for my own good in that scene. She is breaking the binding that she created with the ritual near the end of chapter 8 in The Changeling.

WIP Wednesday

A little snippet from what I've working on for the @mdzsbigbang

The words are there on the tip of Lan Wangji’s tongue. There has never been an exception. Resentment can only be eradicated, not embraced. Not used. Not even influenced. The orthodox ways handed down to them from the ancients exist for a reason. Wen Ruohan no doubt believed himself to be strong enough as well, in the beginning. Lan Wangji cannot watch Wei Ying fall to this. He will not. Wei Ying must see something of his insistence, a long sigh escaping. “Lan Zhan, are you not tired of fighting?” Yes. Yes. Lan Wangji is tired of fighting. Tired of death. Tired of endlessly reaching for Wei Ying only to once again be met with the solid wall of his indifference, if not the sharp slice of his disdain. Lan Wangji grows tired of thinking he might somehow finally find the right words when he never has been able to before. “Can’t you just let me be?” Wei Ying says.

Not a question but I just want you to know that I re-read we can’t control (watch me unfold) all the time. It’s like my comfort read. It’s so well written (both from a plot pov and a smut pov) and just pulls you in from the get. so I was listening to the Reynolds pamphlet from the Hamilton musical and has a clear vision of Tobias, Smita, and Ginny as Jefferson, Madison, and Burr 😭😭 like just imagining Tobias reading out his gossip rags with the same fervor Jefferson uses to recite the Reynolds pamphlet 😭😭 comedy gold

Oh, that definitely happened.

and once the public becomes aware of harry/ginny, the newspapers will go wild. Tobias' favorite thing is reading them out loud. (Though he has a good sense of when it would be funny and when it would cause Ginny pain.)

Do you have any book recs?

My brain has not been in a "pick up a new book and read it" place for a long while. But my "put this book in a to-read pile" game is super strong!

Here's two that I've been told about that I was like, yes, I'd like to read those:

Leila Chatti's Deluge. This is a collection of poetry. I've read some of the poems and just...I really want to read the rest and just spend time with these words one of these days.

N.E. Davenport's The Blood Trials, which I have been told might be right up my alley.

4x12 “Mortal Coil”/7x02 “Imperfection”

I did not realize until now that in “Imperfection” Seven was essentially repeating to B'Elanna something she had already told Tuvok on “Mortal Coil”, but with the exact opposite sentiment. I cannot imagine a more effective way to show how much she's changed in those four years as a liberated former drone, and how differently she sees her time in the Collective.

One of my all-time favorite fanfic tropes will always be temporary character death. You know the "they died! just kidding for whatever convoluted reason, they didn't." Like, maximum angst with happy ending pay off. What's not to love.

Though I have noticed that with some of my ships, the temporary death is usually way more popular applied to one half of the ship than the other. We love character A to think character B has died! But then there is rarely character B thinking character A has died fic. And I realized most of the time for me that's because while character A would be wonderfully angsty and beautifully broken, character B would immediately escalate everything to world ending destruction that would be hard to ever come back from in a happy ending pay off way.
