It was a crazy day of bathing beauties at the ranch today. Even - or especially - the snowy owl was into it. Luca and Leo, the macaws, are crazy about this Atom toy and love to dangle from it while they shower. I could watch their glee all day.

It seems you can find a thousand quotes regarding the character of someone who shares their lives with parrots, most notably that of Mark Twain. Most of those punchlines are those that simply refer to those types of women that keep a parrot in their living rooms…. What of those who make their living surrounded by feathered creatures every waking moment?
The truth is, there is never so much peace in my life as when I am in the company of birds. Every emotion is palpable, communication flows honestly and freely… almost as if the unspoken words, the hum of life takes on a deafening volume. When they let me into their world, I grow light with a surge of energy watching their wings eat up the skies before softly landing on my hand through a carefully built history of trust, empowerment, and respect.  They ask to be mauled like puppies, they offer their favorite tidbits, and share life’s intimacies with the same ease as offering a handshake. It’s good to be in this crowd.
