Airship Crash
“Emergency power!” he ordered and smiled as he saw the gauges fill as the remaining mages threw everything they had left into the engine.
Killian used the power available and brought the vertical speed indicator under control, leveling out a bare ten feet over the water.
He breathed a sigh of relief that turned to horror as the clouds in front of him parted to reveal a jagged formation of rocks the Gorgo Shoals were famous for.
“Ditch!” he screamed into the intercom.
Without a command from his brain his right hand flew into his jacket and grabbed the vial.
His left hand pulled up and…
Too late was his last thought.

Refusal to admit her feelings
Remember this meme?
Tumblr media
Yeah, related scene under the cut.
Taryn looked torn. She reached over and grabbed Rinnie’s hand.
“I think you’re too hard on yourself.”
Rinnie felt a surge of emotion, a desire to allow herself to be comforted, to share more information and not carry this burden alone. She wanted to be held and cry for a few moments and allow Taryn to be more than just a bodyguard with benefits.
Then she told herself it was the oxytocin talking and smashed those feelings.
Outwardly, she shrugged.

Heads Up Seven Up
Thanks @little-peril-stories for the tag!
I'm turning around and tagging: (gently, no pressure) @kaylinalexanderbooks, @sentfromwolves, @baroquesse, @samplewriting, @theprissythumbelina, @atomatowriter, @clockworkgalaxies
Rules: Post the last seven lines you wrote, then tag seven others!
Fudging the "last written" lines a bit, but here's close to the last seven lines I wrote for Heist.
Lelia laughed. “A bit, yeah.” She took the spoon given to her with the cup of tea and stirred the supplement in. “Thankfully, it only tastes a little bit earthy, so I put it in teas most of the time.” “How do you even find out that’s what’s wrong with you?” Em asked. Lelia never knew how to answer that question either. Technically, her father had found out something was wrong with him, which led to Lelia and her sister getting checked shortly thereafter. But it had been years of trial and error for a lot of things. “I had a, uh, interesting childhood,” she eventually answered.

From The Queen of Lies:
“You can’t be serious,” he said. “You’re fucking lying.” This was Colette; she should have snapped at him about such an accusation. Should have demanded his respect, because didn’t he trust her information? Did she look like a liar to him? When had she ever given him reason to believe she would mislead him on something as important as this? But she just shook her head.

@oh-no-another-idea tagged me for FridayKiss and here's the tag back!
Friday Kiss
After that shot, however, Riela coughed a bit. She smacked at her chest and shook her head before reaching for a fresh glass of water.
“I think I’m done,” she said. “You two aren’t…” She shook her head. “I’m done.”
Adler reached over and grabbed her thigh. She scooted closer to him.
Fifteen shots. Adler was torn between wanting to go upstairs and see Killian and Reyna go at it. Riela ran her fingertips along his thigh.
Sixteen shots. Reyna started shuddering. Adler hardly noticed. Riela had just leaned over and kissed his ear.

The reason categorizing fanfiction by tropes works is because there's already an established setting, cast of characters, and theme in the original work, so when people write fanfics they're building sand castles in pre-existing beaches, but when you advertise your book as "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" it says nothing about what the premise is, who the characters are, or what the book is actually trying to say. That's not to say that books containing stuff like "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" can't be absolutely fantastic books, but if you only advertise by listing off tropes that are inherently cookie-cutter then you're implying (whether intentionally or not) that there's nothing interesting or memorable about the book besides smashing tropes together like you're playing with action figures.
