After having a meltdown of epic proportions and slapping Glassman, Shaun goes on an unscheduled road trip with his neighbour Leah in this two-part season opener. Glassman covers for Shaun with Melendez and Andrews (yeah, let’s see that not back-firing). Meanwhile, in the part of the show where medicine is being practised, Melendez, Andrews and Claire are scheduled…

Review: The Good Doctor – Season 1, Episode 10 “Sacrifice”

Last time I watched The Good Doctor, they had successfully completed open-heart surgery on a young boy (against the odds of course because this is dramatised medicine) and Shaun was learning flirting rituals (and trying to distinguish them from ringworm). The Good Doctor has started it’s third season now so I am very behind.

June 2019 Round-up
Tumblr media
June was a very quiet month for me on Books on Autism and this was – in part – due to significant difficulties in my day-job that have had an impact on my health.
I think July may be another month I struggle with posting before hopefully things calm down in August and I can catch up with posting reviews of books I read months ago (there are still reviews for books I read in April partially…

Review: Autism and Asperger Syndrome in Childhood - Luke Beardon
Review: Autism and Asperger Syndrome in Childhood - Luke Beardon #Autism #Autistic "I was happy reading it - given some of the books I read and review, I can't overstate how important that was."
Autism and Asperger Syndrome in Childhood is a introduction to autism for parents which aims to offer something different to the deficit-laden introduction that too many parents are left with post-diagnosis.

Review: Murder at the Museum - Spring Horton #AutisticAuthors #AutisticCharacter
Tumblr media
Atticus McLaren is happy with his life and the way everything is going. He has his own cottage – well it’s sort of a garden shed really – and he has a job he enjoys in the back of the museum where almost no-one can bother him.
Of course, nothing lasts forever, and soon Atticus is juggling a mystery unfolding at the museum, a very chatty photographer, and solving family disharmony that has gone…

Hey! Books on Autism! Where has x,y,z post gone?
Earlier this year, I mentioned that I would be making some changes to the blog by moving the non-book-related posts across to Life on Autism.
I’ve finally got around to doing that. Which is why the post you were looking for may no longer be here.
Some people may not be so interested in the book related posts so you can find the other Series of posts here now:
Sensory Series
Communication Series

Review: Testing Pandora – Kaia Sønderby
Xandri Corelel has spent her life struggling and fighting just to survive on the streets of Wraith. The prequel to ‘Failure to Communicate’ gives readers the origin of Xandri’s life on the…

Wrapping up #AutisticAuthors
With Autism Acceptance Month over for another year, it's time for my wrap-up for the month of #AutisticAuthors.
Tumblr media
With Autism Acceptance Month over for another year, it’s time for my wrap-up for the month of #AutisticAuthors.
It has been an incredible month – I’ve come across so many different authors that I hadn’t known about and in the process I read books that I would probably never have read otherwise. Along the way I got to connect with autistic authors from around the world.
I also joined in my first…

The shortfalls of #AutisticAuthors
Two weeks ago, I asked for Twitter responses from autistic authors and, mostly, this was what I got. There were two or three parents who had written books about or for their autistic children who responded to the request. In autistic spaces online, there can be tension when the request for the autistic voice is ignored, and these can lead to long-running arguments that turn overly personal or…

Books on Autism released in March 2019 on Amazon UK
Tumblr media
As March comes to an end, Amazon have presented a new challenge in sifting through books on autism. Now there’s not just notebooks to skip past, there are multiple books which appear to be either erotic fiction or outright porn in German and French. With titles that translate to things like “Love for beauty” and “Just look sec in one wanted love” (I feel like something was lost in the…

Celebrating #AutisticAuthors throughout April
Celebrating #AutisticAuthors throughout April
A week ago, I posted the below Tweet and the response was incredible.
Throughout April I will be Tweeting and blogging about Autistic Authors – whether they write fiction or non-fiction and whether their books have anything or nothing to do with autism. The excel sheet I have set up is currently at over 250 individual books or series and I am under no illusions that this will be a chaotic…
