When men say things used to be better, they invariably mean they were better for them, because they were young, and had all their hopes intact. The world is bound to look a darker place as you slide into the grave.

Even the dark needs things to eat. To love. Is there a difference? We consume what we love, its purpose and sustenance. We feast on its glory and sedate ourselves with its beauty. Anyway. The dark was hungry. The dark is always devouring, always searching for the light that defines it in opposition.
Mabel, Episode 18: Unusual Hungers written by Mabel Martin (via girlwithouthands)

Fool’s Errand so far:
Fitz: Fuuuuck, isn’t the Fool is just the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen? I mean, look at how he glows, look at the perfect angles of his cheekbones, look at how elegant his hands are, look at how his hair and skin are made out of fucking SUNBEAMS, look at how his clothes flatter his perfect body, look at how the firelight flatters his perfect face, look at how the candle light is tenderly fondling his aristocratic bone structure, look at how the sunset makes him glow like some godly magical immaculate unicorn boy….. Fitz: WAIT IS HE IGNORING ME I don’t care Idon’tcareIdon’tcar– NOO I DON’T LIKE THIS… Ahhh nevermind he paid attention to me, my life has meaning again *breathes* ohhh but fuck seriously look how goddamn attractive he is now, I just, how?? He’s so goddamn beautiful *fills pages with poetry*
Fitz: Oh, yeah, and also he’s really nice to me and he’s loved me loyally forever and he’s pretty much the only person I’ve ever trusted in my life and shit I really missed him so much when he was gone… but whenever I’m with him I feel so complete <3 Fitz: Ugh dammit why do we have to travel with other people I just want to be alone with him!!! Fitz: ………………..seriously though, I don’t get why he flirts with me?? What a weirdo.
Fitz: Eh, this woman is alright, I suppose. I mean, I don’t trust her or anything but she’s nice and sort of pretty. Fitz: She seems sort of into me. Awesome, maybe we should hook up.

Starling: Fool, are you a man or a woman?
Fool: A Prophet
Starling: But what's between your legs?

Me: *wakes up in the middle of the night, sweating*
Me: what? what is it?
My brain: Fitz was rendered incapable of accepting a love as full and unconditional as the Fool’s. The Fool was the first person who embraced Fitz for all that he was instead of just facets of his being. To the Fool, Fitz wasn’t Chivalry’s Bastard, or the Stableboy, or the Assassin’s Apprentice. He was none of that and he was all of that. He was Fitz. Yes, he was the Catalyst, but that in itself is a manifesting of *all* that Fitz is as opposed to something confining. The Fool was the only one who loved Fitz enough to not constrain him to one convenient role. Again, the Catalyst was not really a role - a persona - and it was definitely not convenient. For either of them. But through it all, the Fool never wanted Fitz to be anything different. That’s why Fitz was “content” rather than *happy* at Withywoods despite having all the peace he supposedly desired. It wasn’t just that he had trauma that haunted him, but that he was still playing a role, being Holder Tom, Molly’s Husband, Respectfully-Distant Stepfather. Not once in all those years could he just be Fitz. Except when he was writing to the Fool, which goes to show that
