Deficit vs. Debt
A deficit is the amount of money the government needs to borrow in order to pay this years bills. The debt is the cumulative amount of each years deficit. So for example, in year one I borrowed $1 to pay my bills my deficit is $1 and my debt is $1. In my second year I borrow $1 to pay my bills my deficit is $1 but my debt is $2.
Now here in America we have a myth running amok that republicans are fiscally responsible however if we look at the data we discover a lie.
Jimmy Carter had a average deficit of 63.1 million
Ronald Reagan had an average deficit of 176.5 million
George Bush had an average deficit of 198.9 million
Bill Clinton created a surplus of 62.8 million
George W. Bush had an average deficit of 443.3 million
Barack Obama had an average deficit of 815.9 million
Donald Trump had an average deficit of 2140.1 million
A couple of notes George W Bush started a useless war. Barack Obama inherited that useless war and a crashing ecomony. Donald Trump inherited a booming economy and ended the useless war and still ended with the highest average of any president.
