Things are feeling a bit complicated in today’s chapters of Queen B and My Two First Loves! 🤫💞
Honestly knowing how awful Lea Michele is it doesnt surprise me that Cory Monteith was on drugs (whether or not it was a real or pr relationship)
I know he had a drug problem ever since he was a teen, and that was because of a turbulent upbringing but...honestly, between being on Glee and having to put up with Lea Michele, it would not shock me if it stressed him the fuck out and that made things so much worse.
We know that the Glee set was NOT a healthy place to be for anyone, let alone someone struggling with a drug addiction. Naya talked about in her book how toxic being on the set was, especially since Lea was Ryan Murphy’s special favourite, and I’ve seen people who were extras talking about how miserable it could be. There was even one person who wrote a piece about the sheer amount of extras and actors who were actively engaging in bulimic purging, and how it was a big problem because it was just accepted/encouraged, but I can’t find it now so...maybe take that with a grain of salt. I’m pretty sure Naya also mentioned having anorexia while on the show, so there’s that to unpack too. A LOT of people have spoken about how manipulative and horrible it was to work with Lea Michele - both on Glee and in general. It’s no surprise that a lot of her co-stars have either called her out publicly or have liked tweets doing so. It’s not just her old co-stars on Glee, it’s extras and people who met her back when she did Spring Awakening etc.:
What I find very telling is the people who’ve said how horrible she is vs what an absolute angel Cory was:
The other cast must have been in HELL putting up with her and her bullshit - as I said, she’s always been Ryan Murphy’s special darling, and as such speaking out against her would have resulted in them losing their jobs.
I mean:
I’m pretty sure Naya and Alex Newell have both said they were cut out of Glee because Lea told Ryan to or some shit. Like the feud between Naya and Lea, it’s obvious Ryan cut Naya/Santana out because of Lea and wanting to keep her happy.
Obviously she’s not solely to blame for Cory and his drug problem, he was the one who continued to use drugs - and I say that in the kindest way possible because he was also really fighting that addiction and he even went to rehab a couple of months before his passing, but no one physically made him do them...he needed help, but I don’t think we can blame it all solely on her, if that makes sense.
But yeah...if this is the kind of diva bullshit the cast were putting up with for six years, and being too scared to say anything in fear of losing their jobs, I honestly feel so sorry for them, and it wouldn’t surprise me if that had a hand in driving Cory back to the drugs. I feel so sorry for him - he deserved so much better.
