Another Color of the Week challenge using grey and beige inspired by Deniece Williams's song 'Black Butterfly'. During planning this look, I learned that I don't have any midtone to deep greys in my stash.😲 Since grey on my complexion could pull ashy, I used silvers in the look to provide higher visibility against the black wings. I'm starting to think that making ugly cakes well be a tradition for Badger's birthday. Yesterday's cake was lumpy and short but hubby loved it anyway when we shared a slice last night. . Mini hauls! . First is a neon rainbow from the @mbacosmetics Neons palette. 7 vibrant shades and a vivid white for $20 is a pretty great bargain.🌈 This set came to me thanks to RNG-sus and winning a gift card from the shop!😊 Since they're labeled as not for use in the lips, I look forward to eye and liner looks with these. . The second haul is from @elfcosmetics and is filled with a replacement brush since my last concealer brush died after 3 years if my abuse.😅 The eye primer putty in clay was DOA but they're sending a replacement at no charge! 2x for backups for their🌹Ravishing Rose shade (which I've been wearing around the house like a lip balm!) and testing the SRSLY Satin line in Persimmon which is a much brighter orange than the swatch shows. . Beauty Bakerie mini haul from their recent sale! Still no dupe for Elf Ravishing Rose but I love all of these shades. I've never given B.B. a shot because their mostly neutral selection didn't appeal to me much. They've even removed the few unique shades like Apple Pear Smoothie so my interest in them dwindled like their shade range. I dig non-normative colors as my feed attests to. I'm genuinely sad B.B. doesn't offer more colors since the formulas for the lip cremes and cake pops is SO GOOD! I swiped one on for a test wear and spent the whole day rubbing my lips together like a happy idiot.☺️ The formula for Creme is smooth, silky, light but might need a liner for a little feathering. The Pops were creamy and pigmented. While not all Black owned makeup brands do this, too often when I want to buy and support, I just see offerings in shades of brown/nude. Nothing dampens my urge to spend like seeing a site full of neutrals or worse, glosses. I am not a clear gloss gal and only own 3 out of 100 or so lipsticks. I've often wondered why some brands seem fearful to use vibrant colors or mute what little they offer, while others have rolled the Rainbow Dice and won big. Like Juvia's Place, The Crayon Case, OPV, Ace Beaute and more. Is it a taste issue? Financial? Age demographic? Or that the Nude trend makes browns a safe financial investment in makeup. IMAN came before Fenty but hasn't expanded its color line in over a decade. Fenty eclipsed them with star power but also by knowing what people wanted. PoC Want COLOR 🌈 and to support entrepreneurs of color ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 but we'll often encounter 1000 shades of Taupe Fantasy and get turned off. While attempting a completely different look, the idea for this one sprang up. I wanted a dragon vibe from the coloration more than anything and really enjoyed playing with some new items in the vanity. The Rude cosmetics shadow was very creamy and has a warm, sheer brown under tone that worked really well with my complexion. The Black Radiance Jaded palette honestly shocked me since I hardly see reviews of their eyeshadows so I had to give one a try.  Again, I was surprised in a good way since the two greens used had marvelous payoff for this look!
