Hey y’all- I know I’ve been gone a WHILE lol. Life’s been hectic and fun. Recently had the urge to write. I jotted down some notes; would y’all read this?
Ok so, for context, last night I had a weird dream about this exact scenario and felt the insatiable urge to write it down. It wasn’t Eddie in the dream (it was a diff actor who I literally had never thought about before? Like weird but I imagined Eddie in it when I woke up so here you go):
- Eddie is high key obsessed w you
- But in a cute way? Scary way? You really are unsure
- Like you know he has a crush on you- you’ve known it for years
- He makes it incredibly obvious. He’s a dork, so he’s not great at flirting, but he constantly tells everyone how awesome you are
- Reader is like; really cool? I imagine college age
- Like, he goes around campus just openly being a bit weird but mostly harmless
- Like, shows up to your sporting events (maybe cheer? Volleyball? Softball? Idk man I was a dancer and in colorguard- lmk what yall want) in a t shirt he made- like kinda creepy (but like I said- mostly harmless- just a little odd)
- Rumors spread about how he’s planning to sacrifice you or something
- You find it odd at first, but then you start observing him and see that it’s kinda genuine
- You eventually warm up to him, allowing him to become your friend
- The two are friends for a while, not really hanging out, but like, if he’s somewhere you are (which you eventually realize is more often than not), you’ll make friendly conversation
- He drives you home from class one day bc it’s storming
- Slowly, you start to realize that, while he’s going about it wrong, he’s actually really sweet
- You guys end up at a party
- He’s literally being your scary guard dog (or option b- the one from my dream- he’s making a complete fool of himself saying how cool and awesome and pretty you are. He’s a lil stoned)
- You’re laughing (at him and with him simultaneously) and having a great time
- He offers you a little schweed, and you accept. You two go into a secluded area to smoke
- You have a realization that- man, this guy is kind of adorable
- You lean in to kiss him, but he backs away, mouth hanging open like a fish
- “Stop freaking out so I can kiss you!” You laugh
- “Give me a minute- I need to make sure Im not dead, dying, or somehow overdosing on weed” he said, taking some deep breaths
- “You can’t overdose on weed, jackass.”
- “Yeah well this doesn’t feel real- give me a sec.”
- “I’ll be right here.” You laugh, rubbing his thigh gently
- You kiss and oh my god it is the sweetest and spiciest kiss ever
- Light schmut insues (WHIMPERING)
- He says he loved you during this, then sputters and says you don’t have to say it back or anything- sorry I’m just rambling
- “It’s ok- give me a minute. You’ve known how great I am for a long time, but I’m just learning how great you are now.”
- Panty snatcher
- Omg I can’t do this I’m writing this at work

I want to say thank you first and foremost “Crayons and Cassettes” has become one of my favorite stories its sooooo good and Eddie is such a great dad, i was wondering are you going to continue with the story once you have chance ?🥹🤍
Thank you so much!!! 🤍🤍 And I will I will!! I just posted an explanation about what’s been going on in life, but hopefully I’ll post an update sometime in June? I want to finish it out, but tbh I’ve been struggling with where I want to take it. I want the ending to feel good and final, but I don’t want to make it cheesy, which I guess is my struggle lol. If you have ideas, shoot me a message :D I love taking reader suggestions.
PS, I think once I finish Crayons and Cassettes, I might write a different dad Eddie fic. It’s my favorite (trope? au? Idk) of him. In the meantime, if you haven’t read it yet, I HIGHLY recommend The Yes Policy by @pinkrelish it’s amazing and I WISH my fics will be that good one day 🤍

Ok y’all, major life update:
So, I passed EdTPA (first try with a 47 hell yeah), graduated Cum Laude with 2 bachelors degrees, and now, I’m in the middle of moving across the country! So, needless to say, I’ve been hella busy, which is why I haven’t been writing. But! I move to my new place at the end of the month, take a lil trip to NYC, then (hopefully), I’ll have time to finish out Crayons and Cassettes and start something new! I’m currently in the middle of writing chapter 14, and it’s spicy hehe, but it’ll be a while before it’s out. I think in the mean time, I may write some little blurbs to get my creative juices flowing (like the thoughts about Eddie), so feel free to send one-shot ideas or stuff like that. Idk how often I’ll post them, but we shall see!! I love the continuous support on my fic, and I plan to finish it, I swear! Love y’all 🤍
I’ve also been reading a lot of fics, and I thought about making a recommendation list, if anyone would be interested in that, let me know! :D

Some thoughts I have about Eddie:
- He loves watching you play his guitar. You may just pluck at the strings, asking how to play a chord or two, but he loves watching your fingers glide across the neck of it as you strum nonsense. You’re the only person who he allows to touch his baby. Sometimes he’ll sit behind you, chest pressed against your back, legs straddling your own, and he’ll place his fingers on the frets, show you the strum pattern, and you’ll play a little song together. He’ll hum the lyrics quietly into the crook of your neck, making your skin warm and your head spin.
- His love language is physical touch. At first, you noticed the way he liked to have a hand on you. Holding your own. Resting comfortably on your waist. Playing with the frayed ends of your shorts with his thumb, palm splayed out on your thigh. But as time progressed, and as he got more comfortable, he needed to be as close as physically possible. In public, he’d wrap his arm around your shoulder and pull you close as you looked at cans in the grocery store. He’d wrap his arms around your waist and rest his chin on your shoulder while waiting in line at a concert. He’d pull you into his lap, holding you tight on his couch as a movie played on the tv in his trailer. It wasn’t sexual or possessive, but he needed to be touching you at all times. There was a few days early on where you noticed that he’d backed off a bit, and you definitely felt the absence. You wondered if something was wrong, and on day three of him avoiding your touch, you finally asked him about it. His hand went to the back of his neck, scratching the skin there as he explained that he was worried that you thought it was annoying, that maybe he was too touchy or clingy. When you hugged him close and kissed him sweetly, explaining that you’d missed his presence, all fear melted away. You called him your little barnacle and he laughed all the anxiety out of his system in that moment.
- Any opportunity that Eddie has to make you laugh, he will take it !! Sometimes he’ll just start telling you the cheesiest knock-knock jokes, and you don’t even really laugh at the jokes, but really laugh at how earnestly he is telling them to you, looking at you expectantly, hoping you’ll crack. When your annoyed-facade finally fades and you giggle, he will keep coming up with more, and even if they don’t make sense, you laugh anyways. His eyes light up and he looks like a little kid on Christmas morning. He loves giving random objects funny voices, making them talk to you, almost how a parent might entertain a toddler. But dammit, it’s really funny when he holds up an onion in the store and says in an unnaturally deep voice for an onion, “Don’t worry baby girl, I won’t make you cry. You should pick me”. He intentionally picks out really terrible, low-budget movies at Family Video just so he can listen to you laugh at, and make fun of, the terrible special effects and acting. Your laugh is his favorite sound on the planet.
-Eddie befriends any animal he comes across. Just looking at him, you wouldn’t really take him as an animal lover, but during one of your first visits to his trailer, you notice a little food bowl just tucked underneath the structure of his home. When you questioned him about it, he told you that he feeds the strays. He tells you that he was essentially a stray as a kid, and sometimes he would’ve loved a good meal. If the two of you ever go for a walk, a dog might approach him and beg for pets, even if on a leash with their owner right there. If they agree to let him pet their dog, he immediately drops to his knees and cards his fingers through the dog’s fur, cooing and telling it what a good dog it is, letting it lick his cheeks mercilessly. If you take a stroll through the woods, little critters might cross your path, and he bends low, sitting patiently and letting it approach him. One day, he managed to somehow pet a literal squirrel, and when it finally scurried off, you called him Snow White. He laughed brightly and claimed that you were just jealous.
- Eddie hates reading, but loves Shakespeare. Not Romeo and Juliet, but stuff like Richard III. He may secretly include its plots into his D&D campaigns. That is all.
- He is either insanely amazing at or incredibly terrible at flirting. There’s really no in-between. One day, he’s putting on the moves, tucking your hair away from your neck and whispering things that drive you mad into your ear. His hands are teasing, brushing your sides gently as he tells you all the things he wants to do to you later, alone. His eyes rake over you and land on your lips, staying there until you just can’t stand it, finally giving in to his suave advances. The next day he says something like “Damn baby girl, you look.. like a girl.. who I like the look of… shit.”
- It took him a long time to finally admit that he loves you. But every day after that, he spews the three words endlessly. When you hand him his coffee in the morning. When you are tying your hair up for the day or brushing your teeth. When the two of you are swaying to the music on the radio in his kitchen. When he’s wiping down the counter after dinner and you’re watching him from your place on the couch. When he kisses your neck while his hands wander. When your laugh becomes infectious. Any and every moment he thinks it, he says it.
- Eddie journals. Every day of his life is written down in endless notebooks. Sometimes they’re short little blurbs, other times, they’re pages and pages describing his grief. It was a way to process his emotions when nobody would listen to him as a kid. His upside down entry when he got home simply says: ‘I’m grateful to be alive.’

Congrats on your research 🥳! what did you write about?
It was essentially research on my students and their learning throughout my time in their classroom. It’s a little more extensive than just that, but yeah! I made 5 extensive lesson plans (on top of the ones I normally make every day), taught that unit and videoed myself doing so, wrote 50 pages of research based on those 5 days, and designed assessments and instructional materials that the students used. If you know what National Board Certified teachers do, from what I hear, this is harder than that stuff ugh. I student-teach high school English, and this research is the last thing I have to do to finally be a certified teacher! I graduate college in May with 2 degrees, one in Education and one in English, so by then, I’ll be certified to teach (pending on passing this research stuff lol).

I’ve just read your crayon and cassettes series is soooo good it’s such a cute series and I love the way you have written it !! 🤍
Thanks! FYI I think I’m going to release a new chapter this weekend if all goes well!
Once again y’all, sorry for the wait. EdTPA is kicking my ass a bit but the hard part is done, so hopefully I’ll be able to write again. I also want to write a second chapter for Camp Patoka, but it’ll probably be a while for that.
However, my requests are OPEN and I would love to write some one-shots; it’ll be a bit easier to get those out since they’re low-commitment compared to my chapter fics, so shoot me some ideas in my inbox!!

Chapter 1 || 2 (coming soon!)
Tumblr media
You were sitting in your room in your tiny apartment when you got the call. You’d rushed to the phone, having a feeling that on the other end, your dream job awaited.
You were correct.
Camp Patoka, the summer camp you’d attended every summer since you were old enough to, had accepted your application to be a camp counselor over the summer. You’d remained calm on the phone, thinking them in a professional manner, but as soon as you heard the dial tone and hung your phone back on the wall, you jumped up and down, squealing like a little kid. Your downstairs neighbor yelled something, so you stopped jumping, but he didn’t damper your mood.
The previous summer, you’d aged out of the camp and you’d applied to be a counselor, but they’d rejected you. It was the first summer since you were five that you hadn’t gone. But now, you were able to go back to your favorite place on earth. And you’d get paid to do it! Admittedly not much, but you didn’t care.
The first person you’d thought of was Robin. She was one of your camp buddies. You lived kind of far apart, but the two of you kept up over the years. At first, the two of you exchanged letters, but as you’d grown older, you called each other every once in a while. She was able to get the job last summer, and you were happy for her, but you’d wished you’d been there too. Spending the summer apart just didn’t feel the same. You’d spent it working as a bartender, and the regulars didn’t make up for the Robin-and-s’mores sized hole in your little heart.
You knew that they were calling everyone who’d gotten the job between now and three today, so you decided to wait until then to give her a call, not wanting to block her phone line.
Tumblr media
At exactly three o’clock, your phone rang. You smiled and got up to answer it, knowing for sure who was on the other end.
“Hey Robin.” You said, trying to sound dejected.
“Oh no.. again?” She asked sadly, knowing how heartbroken you’d been last year.
You couldn’t help but smile, “Nope! I got it! Did you?” You said excitedly.
“Oh my god! Yes! I got it too!” She beamed.
The two of you giggled and did your respective happy dances before continuing the call.
“Robin, I am literally so excited! Did they give you your cabin assignment over the phone?” You asked, hoping the two of you would be on the same side of the camp.
Camp Patoka was divided into two distinct sections: Lakeside cabins and Woodside cabins. Lakeside was typically for the younger kids, as it was closer to the main pavilion and a lot of the activities. Woodside was for the older kids, as they were able hike a bit to where they needed to be.
The sides had fifteen cabins each, and each cabin competed in week-long competitions to see which cabin reined supreme. But, the two sides of camp also competed, and at the end of the summer, during the counselor’s party, you’d find out which side won.
“I’m in Woodside, cabin 12.” She said happily, “What about you?”
“Dude- I’m in Woodside cabin 11!” You practically yelled, happy to be able to be right next to each other the entire time.
“This is literally amazing!” She screamed, causing you to hold the phone away from your ear for a second and laugh, “I convinced my friend Steve to apply too, and he’s in cabin 8! We’re all so close to each other!”
The two of you finished up the conversation, excited to see each other after a full year apart.
Tumblr media
A few weeks later, you were on your way to camp, your car filled with everything you’d need. You packed clothes for the entire summer, stuff for your bunk, and cute decorations for your cabin. You jammed out to the radio in the way there, windows down to enjoy the warm, early summer air that you loved more than anything.
You arrived at the camp around 9:30 in the morning, thirty minutes before you’d technically needed to be there, but you went ahead and found a good spot to park your car before getting out, stretching after the long drive.
You popped open your trunk and sat in the back, relaxing and waiting for the time when the other counselors would arrive.
Slowly, cars started pouring into the parking lot, and you finally saw Robin get out of the passenger seat of a station wagon. She immediately saw you and smiled, running across the concrete and tackling you into a giant bear hug. You laughed and hugged her back with an equal amount of force, giggling.
“Oh my god I missed you!” She said, her voice muffled by your shirt.
“I missed you too!” You beamed, a bit out of breath. She finally released you from the crushing hug and stood back, looking over at the man who’d driven her here and waved him over.
He was tall, lean, and had probably the most gorgeous hair you’d ever seen. He seemed confident, which is something you’d liked in a guy, but maybe a little overtly so. His sneakers crunched against the concrete as he headed your way. Once he arrived, he stuck out a hand for you to shake. “Steve.” He said simply.
You obliged, shaking his hand and introducing yourself.
“Steve and I went to high school together.” Robin smiled, “This is his first year as a counselor too, so you two can share war stories later on.”
You laughed, then hopped out of the trunk of your hatchback, “We ready to go check in?” You asked.
The two of them nodded, so you shut your trunk and walked with them to the main pavilion, chatting and catching up with Robin on the way there.
Tumblr media
Once you were all checked in and ready to go, the three of you walked back to the parking lot to grab your luggage and head to your respective cabins.
You arrived at your car, lifting the trunk and lugging your two overly-packed suitcases out of the trunk before going to your front seat, grabbing your backpack out and slinging it on your back. You waited for Robin before the two of you walked to your cabins, Steve trailing behind the two of you.
He stopped at his cabin first, and Robin insisted that the two of you pause to head in and check it out before you continued to yours.
Steve unlocked the door and walked in, rolling his suitcase into the small room by the door where he’d stay before walking around. There were eight beds, excluding his own, a bathroom with two showers, and a center vanity with drawers and a large mirror.
You smiled and bumped Robin’s hip, “Remember when we stayed here?” You asked.
“That was in seventh grade, right?” She asked. You nodded, remembering the time a wasp flew into the cabin and the entire bunk of girls screamed while Robin just walked up and killed it.
“Well, this is home for the next two and a half months, huh?” Steve smiled. “You guys want help bringing your stuff to your cabins?” He asked. Robin nodded, and the three of you headed out, walking further down the little road to where the two cabins you’d be staying in sat. Steve offered to help with one of your heavy suitcases and carried Robin’s backpack on his back as you walked. Your cabin was first, and you invited them inside.
The layout was the same, but backwards. You and Steve rolled your suitcases into your area before you smiled at Robin, indicating that you’d wanted to go see her cabin. Her layout was the same as Steve’s, and she looked around for any bugs before giving a thumbs up, making you laugh.
Eventually, the three of you separated to get unpacked before lunch and training began at noon. You unpacked all of your clothes, folding them and putting them into the drawers in your tiny room that was open to the rest of the cabin. In order to have a little privacy, you’d brought an extendable shower curtain rod and cute curtains, something you’d seen your counselors do over the years. You set that up, then made your bed, flopping onto the twin mattress for a moment before sighing and getting up to finish decorating.
You turned on the small radio you’d bought, tuning it until you found a radio station that reached this far out into the woods, not really caring what music was playing but just enjoying the background noise.
You decorated your room first, stringing up lights so you wouldn’t have to use the overhead lighting, then hanging up a couple cute posters. You’d be living here for a few months, so you’d wanted to make it as homey as possible.
You then moved on to decorating the rest of the cabin, keeping it simple. A cute string of pom-poms over the mirror, a poster on the bathroom door with some encouraging words. You’d also brought dry-erase markers so you’d be able to write on the mirrors. You sat on the drawers in front of the giant mirror of the makeshift vanity area and got to work, drawing some cute little pine trees and writing ‘cabin 11’ in a cursive font. You made space to write the weekly schedule of activities for your campers, leaving it blank for now, as you hadn’t gotten it just yet.
You stepped back and smiled at your artwork. You weren’t the most amazing artist in the world, but you could make some pretty cute little doodles.
Before you knew it, it was nearing 11:45, and you heard a knock on your cabin door. Robin walked in, looking around. “Oh my god, your cabin is so cute!” She smiled, moving your curtains aside to look into your room, “Woah, it looks like you’ve lived here your whole life.”
You chuckled, “I wanted to make it feel like home!”
“No, I love it! I will definitely be hanging out in here.” She smiled, “But are you ready to head to the dining hall?” She asked.
You nodded and grabbed your lanyard, which held a spot for your name badge and you had your cabin key clicked into it as well. You’d also grabbed your backpack, which you’d packed with sunscreen, bug spray, an extra pair of hiking sandals in case yours ever broke, a mini first aid kit, and a few other small things that you’d need.
The two of you walked down to Steve’s cabin and picked him up, then trotted down to the dining hall together. You’d felt like Steve kept glancing your way, but you ignored it for the time being.
Tumblr media
Training went by smoothly. They went over the map of the camp, handing out a few copies to every counselor, then ensured that everyone had their CPR and AED certifications up to date. They went over some housekeeping things like camp rules, the general schedule for meals and pavilion times. Then, they handed out the camp shirts for the year, as well as your schedule for the week, and the blank white flags your campers would get to decorate.
You and Robin swapped your schedules, looking them over. The two of you had the exact same schedule this week, and you likely would all summer since your cabins were connected by a deck and they typically grouped counselors by their location. She bumped your shoulder and smiled, and you smiled back, excited to spend the summer with one of your favorite people.
Once training let out, you and Robin linked arms and went to the lunch line, ready to eat the meal they’d provided. The two of you chatted about the schedule for the first week, excited to swim in the lake and ride horses.
Steve had made conversation with another male counselor, who apparently was his cabin buddy for the summer, so you and Robin ate your meal just chatting alone.
Once lunch was over, Steve walked up to the two of you. “Ready to head back?” He asked. Robin nodded and you followed the two of them out, making the familiar hike back to the Woodside cabins.
Robin spotted a bunny up ahead, so she made the two of you pause while she went to go investigate. The two of you watched as she slowly walked up to the tree line further up the road, wanting to check it out.
You heard Steve chuckle beside you, “She’s an interesting one.”
“Don’t go getting any ideas, man.” You said. Robin had actually come out to you first. She figured that if you would’ve freaked out, she wouldn’t have to deal with any repercussions back home, as you lived in a different part of the state. But when you ensured her that you loved her either way, she cried and hugged you. That was really the moment that solidified your friendship.
“Oh, I know.” He said, looking over at you, “Robin’s probably like, my best friend.” He hummed.
You nodded, trying not to giggle when Robin almost scared the bunny off by nearly tripping over a rock. “She’s definitely… really smooth.” You joked.
“Are you, like, into her?” He asked, not knowing your orientation.
You shrugged, “Well, we have made out a couple times, but it wasn’t serious. I kinda don’t have a preference, if that makes sense.”
He thought for a moment, then nodded. You could practically see the smoke coming out of his ears from the gears turning in his head. “So you’d say yes if I asked you out?” He said, raising an eyebrow. He’d definitely noticed how pretty you were. Even though you were in your camp clothes— a large tee shirt, shorts, hiking sandals, and a headband—he still thought you were good looking.
You felt a bit shocked. He said it so candidly. He also seemed a bit arrogant, which you had never been a fan of. “I don’t know you, dude.”
“Do you have to?” He said a bit suggestively, the old King Steve persona, that you had no idea about, peeking out a little.
You rolled your eyes, “Yeah, kinda.” You walked ahead a little, going to meet Robin. You turned backwards as you walked, “Stranger danger, and all.” You scoffed and turned back around, jogging up to your friend and linked your arms together to keep walking.
She frowned, your movement making the bunny walk away, “Hey!”
“I gotta talk to you.” You said, speed walking towards your cabin and pulling her along, kinda grossed out and really wanting to get out of this situation.
Tumblr media
Once you had dragged Robin into your cabin, you shut the door and stormed into your room, flopping face first down onto your bed, “Ewww.. ew ew ew” you groaned into your comforter.
Robin trailed behind you, moving to sit on the bean bag you’d put in the corner of your little room, “What?” She asked, not aware of what just happened.
You sat up, kicking your shoes off and sitting crisscrossed on your bed, facing her, “Steve asked me out.” You frowned.
Robin only laughed, and you frowned, which made her try to surprise it, “And the tally begins.” She said, making a mental note to write it down when she got back to her cabin.
“What?”
“Steve… well, he’s a great guy and all, but he’s a bit of a player. Well, more of a reformed one?” Her statements only made you more confused, so she continued, “Steve dated half of Hawkins in high school. He was real hot shit. But since he graduated, he’s changed. He’s a lot nicer, and I think he’s looking for something more serious, but he doesn’t have the game he used to… we work at a Family Video, and I have a running tally of how many times he’s gotten shot down.”
You burst into peals of laughter at that, and she joined in. “Sorry,” you said between giggles, “You keep count?”
“Yep. And it looks like you’re his first victim of the summer. Probably because you’re the only person who knows his name right now.” She chuckled, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. “You’re a victim of proximity.”
“That makes me feel a little better, I guess.” You shrugged, moving a stray piece of hair behind your ear.
“But, listen, if you do change your mind about him.. he’s a good guy. He’s one of my best friends, and I’m not trying to shit talk him or anything. I’d totally support it. He means well.” She sighed, relaxing in the cool air conditioning of the cabin.
“Boys are gross.” You teased, wrinkling your nose in disgust.
She nodded, “Agreed!”
Tumblr media
The next couple days were spent in more counselor training, going over the safety precautions for each activity within the camp, as well as getting to know the entire team in the process.
By Monday morning, the first round of campers were arriving by 8am. You sat in pavilion, helping check campers in and pointing them towards their respective counselors. You even checked in one of your own, introducing yourself to her, as well as her parents. You pointed to where your cabin was gathering in the pavilion, saying you’d meet them over there in a little while.
Once all campers were accounted for, the camp director did introductions to the camp and herself before dismissing the cabins to go grab their stuff form cars and meet in their respective cabins. You led your group of preteens and their parents through the camp, giving a bit of a tour as you walked to the Woodside cabins. You helped get suitcases in the door to the cabin, then watched as your kids hugged their parents goodbye for the week.
You helped your girls get settled in, getting to know them. You wrote the schedule for the week on your mirror, then pulled out the blank flag and markers, sitting down with them to decorate it. Each counselor carried their flag around, making it easy for campers to spot their counselors, as well as having something unique to that group of campers. They ended up drawing out a little cabin in the woods, you finding out that one of your campers was an amazing artist, and they all drew little trees and birds, as well as writing their names at the bottom. You wrote ‘Cabin 11’ at the top in a cute font.
Once you were finished, you held up the flag, and all the girls nodded in approval before you grabbed the small PVC pipe that would act as your flag pole, and you slid the flag onto it, then stuck it by the door. You looked at your watch, and it was about time for everyone to gather at the pavilion again for the first games of the week before each cabin was dismissed for their first activity. You had arts and crafts today, so it would be a chill day to start off the week, which was nice.
You instructed the girls to get ready to go, and you did as well, putting your shoes back on and grabbing your backpack, as well as the flag. You stood by the door and once everyone was ready, you walked out, having them sit on the little benches on the deck while you knocked on Robin’s door. She smiled and opened it, ready to go as well. The two of you gathered your campers and started the hike back to the camp’s main pavilion.
“Should we teach them our favorite song?” Robin asked. You smiled and nodded, then the two of you walked backwards and led them through a song you’d leaned at this camp, showing them all the arm movements that went along with it, laughing all the way as you watched your campers open up and bond with each other quickly.
At the main pavilion, the camp director introduced the camp-wide competition, then started the first game: a weird version of rock paper scissors with body movements instead of just hands. The campers competed in their cabins first, then once the numbers dwindled, cabins competed against each other until one camper was victorious, winning 10 points for their cabin.
The two finalists were one of the girls from your cabin, and a boy from Steve’s, because of course it was. The entire camp cheered them on, and your camper emerged victorious, your cabin standing up and cheering excitedly. The director marked down the points as your camper ran back, your girls group hugging her. You looked over at Steve and smirked, feeling like you’d gotten him back.
This was the beginning of a beautiful rivalry.

Once the weekend arrived, you found yourself dressing a little more casually. It was just a cozy movie date, and you really didn’t feel the pressure of all the first date, first impressions thing anymore. It was starting to feel comfortable, like the two of you were getting into a routine.
You wore jeans and the band tee shirt you’d bought at the concert, tied your hair up, and applied a little bit of makeup. You threw your stuff in your purse and put on some cute earrings before grabbing your comfortable white sneakers and heading out to your living room to sit and put them on.
Pencil hopped up in your lap as you were trying your shoe, needing attention. You chuckled and tried to finish tying the knot, moving your arms and head around the cat, but she was insistent. You sighed and gave up, sitting back and petting her.
Eddie knocked on your door, and you attempted to get up, but Pencil had you trapped, so you just yelled, “There’s a key under the mat!” You heard Eddie move the mat, struggling with the lock, then walking into your house.
He walked in and saw you with one shoe on, half tied, and Pencil on your lap, holding you down. He chuckled and walked over to you, sitting next to you on couch. “I’m trapped.” You sighed, petting Pencil’s back.
He smiled, “Looks torturous.”
You leaned over and kissed his cheek, holding Pencil to you, “I may have to take a raincheck. She won’t even let me put on my shoes.”
“Here, let me help.” He hummed, moving off the couch and tying the shoe you had on, before moving to put the other shoe on your other foot. He tied it, then moved back up to you and placed a sweet kiss on your lips.
“Thanks.” You smiled. “You’re going to have to help me detach her from me, you know.” You said, trying to pry her off of you and hearing her meow sadly, holding on with her claws.
Eddie laughed at the cat’s reaction, “You really weren’t kidding.”
You nodded, sitting up and feeling her finally tumble off of your chest and on to your lap, which made you move quickly and get off the couch while she wasn’t holding on. You raised your hands excitedly, “Success!”
He stood up with you, taking the opportunity where your arms were already up to wrap his arms around your waist and pick you up, causing a surprised laugh to bubble up from your chest, holding on to him as he spun you around.
“Let’s go before Pencil attacks again!” He beamed, still holding you up. You were really surprised at how easily he held you, but you accepted it.
“Get my purse!”
He bend down, still holding you, and grabbed it off of your coffee table before carrying you out the door while you giggled in his arms. He set you in the passenger seat of his van, leaning in and kissing you passionately.
You kissed him back, holding him close and tangling your hands in his hair. His excitement made you giddy like a girl with her first crush. Once he broke the kiss, smiling like a madman, you kicked your feet up on his dash, “Come on, Romeo. Take me on a date.”
Tumblr media
The date was fun. Eddie took you to the movies you’d been at a few days before, and the two of you giggled and whispered throughout the film. The two of you shared a slushee and cuddled up the entire time. It was really nice.
Once the move let out, the two of you were pretty hungry, so he took you through a drive-thru and the two of you were currently sitting in the back of his van, eating fries and talking.
Eddie had been ranting about the plot of the movie since you’d asked him if he liked it. “No, what I’m saying is that they totally shouldn’t have ended up together in the end. Not that I’m not a sucker for romance or anything, but like, the characters really weren’t compatible. Like, the entire film was spent showing how much the two of them hate each other and how different they are, and suddenly something bad happens and they’re all like, ‘oooh I love you so much’! Like, it just doesn’t make sense. I think they should’ve maybe put aside their differences and like, gotten through it with each other, but I think it was kinda dumb to put them in a relationship. Totally took me out of the experience, you know?”
You giggled and nodded, eating a fry, “Yeah, I get what you mean. But did you like the movie?”
He cocked his head to the side, “Did I not answer the question?”
You laughed, “No, Eddie, not really.”
“Oh, well I liked it. Just wish it ended differently. The end was just kinda tropey.”
You hummed and leaned against the side of his van, “I agree.” You ate a bite of your burger, swallowed, then took a sip of your soda, “You should be a film critic. I could listen to you talk about it for hours.” You informed him, a small smile gracing the corners of your mouth.
“Well, I’m sure you could, but I doubt anyone else would want to hear what I have to say about that stuff.” He whispered after taking a gulp of his drink.
“Yeah, maybe it’s just because I like you. Is that tropey?” You teased, a sly smile on your face as you leaned towards him a little.
“Oh, totally. But I can put up with it for you, angel.” His smile more cocky than yours, leaning in your way.
Before he had the chance to kiss you, you leaned back against the car again, “‘preciate it, old buddy old pal.”
He looked shocked for a moment, then scoffed, “Not like I wanted to kiss you anyways.” He huffed, sitting back and pouting like a little kid. “And old buddy? I thought we were more than that.”
“Yeah? Why don’t you come show me exactly what we are, Eddie?” You asked, shoving your food aside, looking at him through hooded lids, suggestion heavy in your tone.
He raised an eyebrow, then quickly forgot about his food, scrambling over to kiss you quickly, placing a hand on the back of your neck to hold you close.
You hummed against his lips and lazily wrapped your ams around his shoulders, letting your lips slot together like two perfect puzzle pieces.
He held you close, his tongue slowly meeting yours and not caring that either of you tasted like fast food and soda. His mind was racing as he kissed you though. Your statements, the question of what the two of you were.. he felt like he knew the answer, but he needed you to know. You were his girlfriend… right? He felt silly having to define it; it felt like he was thinking like a high schooler as he kissed you, but neither of you had stated, what he felt, was the obvious.
You pulled away, needing oxygen, and you made eye contact, “Are you okay?” You asked softly, seeing that he seemed deep in thought.
“You’re my girlfriend.” He stated, still in a daze. His statement seemed to snap him out of it after a moment though, and he blushed and stuttered out, “Ah- well. I mean, if you want to be. I should’ve asked first. But maybe that’s stupid? We’re adults, so like it feels weird to just ask, but-“
“I’m your girlfriend.” You giggled, cutting him off and seeing the palpable relief wash over him.
“Sorry.” He laughed, “I’m not very good at this.”
“Yeah, maybe you aren’t, but I think it’s endearing, so you get a pass.” You whispered, leaning in and kissing him sweetly. You felt him smile against your lips, then he broke it, “And I’m your boyfriend.” He giggled.
“Yeah, I guess you are, boyfriend.” You chuckled, tucking his hair behind your ear. The word felt nice coming out of your mouth, like you should’ve said it earlier.
He sat back and grabbed his soda, keeping his legs tangled with yours as the two of you finished your food, joking and kissing for hours.
Tumblr media
The rest of the summer passed easily. You and Eddie went on dates at least once a week, enjoying each other’s company and getting to know each other on a deeper level.
He told you about his darker past, and you opened up about yours, telling him about your last relationship. He’d said he wanted to punch the guy, and you laughed and said that you’d beaten him to it, just once, before you left. You told him that you were a cheerleader in high school, and he said that you would’ve never noticed him, which you found hard to believe considering the stories his friends told you about how he used to be. The conversations flowed easily.
You’d taken Sage out a few times, relieving Eddie of his responsibilities and Sage of her boredom. She loved when you did- the two of you got your nails done, you’d been to the park, and you’d taken her out for lunch a few times. She absolutely adored you, and made sure to tell you every opportunity she got.
You helped Eddie shop for her school supplies last week, letting him know that, while the school supply list was long and some things may have seemed a little excessive, teachers needed every single thing on the list. You’d bought some for yourself too, knowing that not every parent could afford the supplies.
And before you knew it, the first day of school arrived once more, but this time, Sage was down the hall. You kind of missed her being in your class, but you knew it was part of life.
That morning, Eddie got Sage up early and sat her at the table, handing her a plate of pancakes and sitting across from her, sipping his coffee.
“You excited for your first day of first grade, kiddo?” He asked with a tired smile.
Sage poked at her food, trying to stab a small piece of pancake with her fork, her face focused. “I wish I didn’t have a new teacher.” She mumbled.
“Well, your old one is just down the hall, so you can see her whenever you want.” He smiled.
“But what if my new teacher isn’t nice? What if she doesn’t take me to the movies?” She asked, not really understanding that the way your relationship with her wasn’t typical.
He chuckled at that, “Well, Sage, your new teacher probably won’t..” he sighed.
She frowned, “Why not?”
“Well, your new teacher and I aren’t really friends. Not in a bad way- your old one and I are just close. And she’s friends with everyone else- Robin and Uncle Steve and Nancy. That’s not usually the case. You just got lucky with the first one.”
She thought for a moment, eating her pancakes, sticky syrup somehow getting on her hands even though she ate with a fork. “Okay..” she said, her voice muffled from the food in her mouth.
Eddie got up and kissed her forehead, then left the room to set out her clothes for the day. When he came back, Sage had a smile on her face that he knew well: she had an idea, and most likely, it was a mischievous one.
“Daddy?” She asked, using both hands do take a sip of her orange juice.
He squinted his eyes, looking at her as he got a paper towel and wetted it at the sink to wipe the sticky residue from her hands. “What?”
She grabbed her fork, “You should marry her.” She smiled confidently, shoveling pancakes into her mouth after she said what was probably the most shocking thing he’d heard in a while.
He looked over at Sage, confused and shocked. Did she know? Or was she just suggesting it? “Sage…” he whispered, walking over and sitting in the chair next to her and wiping off her hands and her fork. “What makes you say that?”
She swallowed and turned to look at Eddie, “She’s nice to me. And she’s pretty. And you need a wife. All my friends daddies have a wife.” An idea popped into her head, “Oh! And you can get married in a castle!”
He chuckled and sat back, contemplating telling her the situation for a long moment. Sage seemed open to the idea, obviously. And you two had been together for over two months at this point. You’d established the relationship; you we’re officially dating. Plus, half of the town knew, so it might be hard for her to avoid hearing at school. He’d much rather tell her himself, rather than having someone else break the news and confuse her.
“Well, it’ll be a while before we get married.” He said softly, hesitating for a moment before continuing, “But we are dating.”
Sage gasped dramatically, making Eddie thankful she’d swallowed what she’d had in her mouth beforehand, “You are?!” She asked excitedly.
“Yeah, kiddo. Is that okay?” He asked, waiting for her reaction before getting excited. He hoped his daughter would love the idea.
“Yes!” She whisper-yelled, squealing and shaking her fork like a barbarian.
Eddie laughed, “Good.” He took the fork from her hands so she wouldn’t hurt herself.
“And you’re gonna get married? In a castle? So that I can be a real princess?” She asked, looking up at him hopefully.
He looked down at her fondly, “Maybe one day. Not right now, though. We’re still pretty new at this.”
She sighed, “Well I wanna be a princess, so you’d better marry her soon.” She said, crossing her arms.
“You already are a princess, Sage. Ready to go get dressed in your princess dress for school?”
She nodded and held her arms out for Eddie to pick her up, and he happily obliged.

On the first day of school at Hawkins Elementary, it was tradition for the parents to walk their kids in, no matter the grade.
You were flitting around your classroom, getting the last minute details ready when parents slowly started to fill the hallways and your room. You got straight to your usual first day duties: taking photos, distracting kids, and handing out the first parent newsletters.
Before he could stop her, Sage ran down the hallway and into your room and hugged you tightly around your legs, beaming, “You’re daddy’s girlfriend.” She said excitedly, looking up at you.
Your eyebrows raised in shock, and you looked up at Eddie, who was standing in your doorway a little out of breath from chasing her, “Sorry, I couldn’t stop her.” He chuckled.
You bent and picked up Sage, resting her on your hip and walking back over to Eddie. You gave him a look that asked, ‘you told her?’ And he shrugged, whispering “Yeah. Figured it would be better to hear it from me rather than a parent or teacher.”
You smiled softly, looking over at Sage, “Yes, I am. Now, you gotta go to class.” You told her, handing her over to Eddie as she whined.
“But I wanna be in your class.”
“Ms. Ashburn is really nice, I promise.” You smile, “Give her a chance. She has some exciting things planned for you this year.”
She tucked her head into Eddie’s neck and he smiled, “I’ll see you later.” He hummed, leaning over and kissing your cheek before taking Sage down to her class.
You turned and focused on yours, ignoring some judgy looks from a few of the parents in the room. You really couldn’t care less about their opinion. You were happy with Eddie. And now, Sage knew, so you felt that weight come off of your shoulders.
You had a good feeling about this school year.

When you got a phone call from Robin asking if you wanted to hang out with her, you immediately took her up on her offer.
You were really looking forward to just having some one on time time with a friend. Although you’d definitely been welcomed into the little group, having an invitation to just hang out one on one made you feel like you really belonged.
Robin came over and watched you do your makeup, watching carefully so she could try to replicate parts of it. You taught her how to do the eyeliner look she liked too; there was a small mishap, however, it was nothing a makeup wipe and a little concealer couldn’t fix.
Once you were ready, the two of you piled into her car and she drove you into town. You stopped at some diner, a place called Benny’s, and the two of you squeezed into a booth that had probably seen better days.
“What have you been up to since I saw you at Steve’s?” You asked her, curious to know if anything exciting happened.
She shrugged, “Well, not much. I mainly did laundry and worked. But,” she said, lowering her voice to a whisper after scanning the restaurant to see if anyone was listening, “a new girl started at work, and oh my god, she is so pretty.” She smiled.
You raised an eyebrow, “Ooh.. do you think she’s…?” You asked.
“I don’t know- that’s the problem. She just moved here from Chicago. Said she and her” she added air quotes, “‘partner’ broke up and she needed a change of scenery. Why she moved here I literally cannot fathom, but I don’t know.”
“Hey, I moved here for the exact same reason. It’s a good place- not expensive, plenty of jobs.. but that’s beside the point.” You rambled, “Did she like, say partner in a casual way, or like she was trying to not say another word?” You asked, leaning in and keeping your voices quiet.
“I-“ Robin was quickly interrupted by a scrawny high school age kid who wore the Benny’s uniform, asking what you guys wanted to order.
Once he was out of earshot, Robin leaned back in and whispered, “Like I said, I really don’t know. But she totally has a vibe about her.”
“A vibe?” You asked, a little confused.
“Yeah, dude.” She chuckled, “Like, she has a septum piercing and streaks of pink in her hair. I mean, you’ve at least got to break a few social norms to do that.”
You considered it for a moment, “Yeah, I guess so. But listen, I don’t want you to get your hopes up too much.” You said quietly. “I don’t want you to get hurt- emotionally or physically.”
She nodded, “Yeah, I’ll be careful. You forget I’ve been doing this for a while.” She chuckled. Robin had grown out of her awkwardness a bit as she’d aged, though there were definitely still traces of it in the way she would talk to loud when she was excited or would say something a little off topic because her mind ran faster than her mouth. It was endearing, though.
The teenager came back with your drinks; you’d ordered both ordered waters as well as milkshakes. You played it safe and got cookies and cream, while Robin ordered some strawberry-blueberry-chocolate-banana-peanut butter monstrosity. She smiled, “I’ve been coming here since high school, and I have perfected my milkshake order. You’ve got to try it.”
You wrinkled your nose at the thought, “Sorry, Robin, but I would probably die from all the sugar in that thing.” You laughed.
She shrugged and took a sip, smiling at the taste of the weirdly dark green liquid. You had no idea how it ended up that color, but you really didn’t want to know.
“How’s Eddie?” She asked, changing the subject from her love life to yours.
“He’s good. I haven’t been able to see him since you have, which kinda stinks. He’s been working a lot. I was thinking about stopping by the record store tomorrow just to drop in and say hi, but Sage goes there and hangs out while he works, so I don’t know if he’d be okay with it.” You sighed. You missed him.
“Does he not want you around her?” She inquired.
“Well, I wouldn’t say that. But we just kinda want to know where we’re at before bringing her into it. It’s not easy on a little kid to see their parent with someone new, you know?” You informed her, sympathetic to Sage’s feelings.
“Well, how do you feel about it all?” She asked.
You furrowed your brows, a little confused, “What do you mean?”
“Like, you know… how do you feel about keeping the two of you apart from the two of them? If you and Eddie do end up working out… have you thought about what you would be to Sage?” She asked.
You’d been so caught up in being worried about Sage’s feelings that you really hadn’t considered your own at that point. You pondered the possibilities for a moment, sipping on your milkshake. “Well… I mean, I’m okay with keeping it from Sage for a while. I think that’s normal for anyone who has kids, you know? Making sure your relationship is sound before introducing the concept to a child… and I really haven’t thought about what I would be to Sage..”
“Would you ever want to be her step-mom?” She asked, “That’s kind of the end goal there.”
You hummed and focused on the black and white liquid in your glass, “I-I don’t know. I don’t think I’m against it at all, but I don’t know if I’d be a good mom. Like, yeah, I know I’m good with kids, but I’ve always kind of approached them in almost a scientific way, if that makes sense? I know there’s a method to how you should talk and interact with them, at least in a school setting, in order to help them learn and grow. But I am really only trained for kids 6 and below. And I just… worry, I guess, about like.. messing her up or something.” You sighed, your insecurities showing a bit.
Robin reached her hand across the table and patted your arm, “Dude, you are like, the most motherly non-mom I’ve ever met. I’m positive you’d be good at it. Yeah, you’d make some mistakes, but every parent does. And I’m willing to bet that Eddie and Sage would help you through the process of figuring it all out.” She smiled.
“I guess so… but that’s probably years down the line before that would actually happen, so at least I’ve got time to get used to the idea.” You chuckled.
The waiter came back with your food, and you and Robin dug in. As you ate your french fries, a familiar face walked into the door: Mrs. Robinson, the other kindergarten teacher. She spotted you and you waved. She smiled and walked over to your table.
“Hey, Mrs. Robinson.” You greeted, smiling and cordial. “This is my friend, Robin.” You said, chuckling at the similar names.
“Oh, I know Robin.” She hummed, “She was one of my students years ago.” She’d definitely aged from the time Robin had been in her class, but she still looked and dressed the same. “And you can just call me Anne outside of work.”
Robin smiled up at her, “Nice to see you again.”
“Care to join us?” You asked, trying to be polite.
“Oh, thank you, but my husband is on his way here.” She smiled, then you saw it falter for a moment, “But I do have something to ask you.”
You raised an eyebrow, scooting over so she could sit next to you in the booth, “What is it?” You asked, having no clue as to what she could possibly ask you about.
“Well, I heard a rumor.. and I really just wanted to clear the air about it. I have no doubt in my mind that it’s not true, but I just wanted to confirm with you.” She said, waving her hand dismissively at the idea.
“What did you hear?” You asked, having a sinking feeling you knew where this was going.
“Well,” she started, clothing her purse close to her and leaning in, “I heard that you and that Eddie Munson boy were dating.” She chuckled, “Ridiculous, right? You wouldn’t go out with a boy like that- he’s not.. well, he’s from the wrong side of the tracks, literally.”
You felt Robin’s eyes on you, and you could practically feel her anger bubble, but you decided to keep it simple and professional.
“Oh, actually, Anne, I am. Dating Eddie, that is.” You smiled warmly, though you kind of wanted to punch her in the leg for how rude she’d been about it.
She looked utterly scandalized. “What?” She asked, clutching her purse in her lap, “Why- why would you ever do that, dear? Is your head screwed on straight?” She’d dropped her usually pretentious manner at this point, while you remained, outwardly, cool as a cucumber.
“Well, he’s a good man.” You said, slightly emphasizing the last word to correct her use of the word ‘boy’. “He has a good job, he just bought a home, and he is kind to everyone around him. I don’t see how that’s a bad thing.” You stated simply.
She sighed, grabbing your hand and holding it desperately. You wanted to smack it away, but you refrained, “Dear, he’s bad news.. he got a girl pregnant during his third repeat of senior year in high school. He notoriously deals drugs, he listens to that awful devil-worshiper music, he’s got these horrendous tattoos, and I mean, you’ve seen the way he dresses…and I heard that he was the leader of some Satanic-cult when he was younger.” She pleaded. “I don’t know how that precious baby girl hasn’t been taken from his home- it’s not safe.”
The longer the list became, the more agitated you felt, but you couldn’t let it show. If you made a scene, you’d only spur the rumors on. You took a deep breath, “Anne, he is a good man.” You reiterated, “Sure, he may have an eclectic sense of fashion and off-beat music taste, but that’s really all there is to it. He’s not a drug dealer, I like his tattoos, and the so-called ‘cult’ you’re referring to is just a storytelling game. It’s quite dorky, if I’m being honest.” You chuckled. “Plus, he is an amazing dad. He provides everything for Sage- she literally has anything she could ever want. And he’s involved. He came to every parent teacher conference, every recital, and he read to her every night to ensure she was excelling in school. He does a great job with her, and honestly, I think it’s a shame that more people done see that.” You paused for a moment before continuing, “You judge him based on his outward appearance and silly rumors you hear around town. But, if you had an actual conversation with him, you’d know that he is kind and genuine and absolutely hilarious.” You felt Robin smile with pride at your sentiments. “It’s quite foolish to think that anyone is not worth more than what you’ve heard about them, don’t you think?”
Mrs. Robinson shook her head and let your hand go, moving to get up, “I’m only trying to help you out, dear.”
“I appreciate that, but I can take care of myself.” You said coolly. “I’ll see you in our professional development workshop in two weeks.” You said, smiling like none of this phased you.
She left to go sit with her husband, and you looked over at Robin. “Woah, dude.. you’re like, the most level headed person I’ve ever met.” She mused.
Your smile turned strained, “Well I’m not about to be. Let’s go so I can say some choice words about what just occurred.” You said through gritted teeth.
Robin smiled and nodded quickly, digging cash out of her purse and slamming it on the table as the two of you got up from the table.
Tumblr media
Once her car was out of the parking lot and onto the main road, your hands were flying around in the air as you yelled, Robin cackling in the drivers seat.
“What the absolute fuck was her problem?! First of all, how is it any of her business who I choose to be with? I don’t give a fuck about her old bag of a husband, so why should she care what I do outside of school? Secondly, how the hell can she just judge someone based off of shifty rumors that were spread about him fucking years ago! Like, how fucking shallow can you be! Lastly, how dare she have the nerve to sit there and call Eddie a bad dad! He’s literally one of the best parents out there, hands down. Ugh, I want to show her Sage’s scores alone compared to her entire class just to shove that shit in her face!”
Robin laughed, “Yeah, literally what was her problem?” She asked, “And oh my god, you should have seen her fucking face when you said you two were going out! She looked like you’d shit in her cereal!” She cackled. “And how were you so calm? Oh my god you should take up acting! You have an amazing talent there- you should really capitalize on it!”
You groaned, “Well if I was even the slightest bit rude to her, she could’ve confirmed that he was like, ‘ruining me’, or whatever else she and her friends talk about when they gawk at the freshly eighteen lifeguards at the pool.” That made Robin laugh so hard to the point where she had to pull over in a random parking lot so she wouldn’t crash her car. “She also could’ve come for my job somehow. So I really wanted to kill her with kindness. Really let her choke on it.”
“Hell yeah, man” Robin said, holding her sides as you joined her laughter. “But seriously, you should’ve seen her face when you didn’t give her any sort of a reaction. She looked like she was going to explode.”
The two of you howled in her car, eventually dying down and wiping stray tears and hiding your sore stomachs. Once the two of you recovered, you guys looked up and saw that you were actually in the parking lot of the record store and that Eddie was in the window, staring at the both of you with the most bewildered look on his face. He looked like a lost puppy, raising an eyebrow and cocking his head to the side. You and Robin made eye contact again, paused for a moment, then bursted out into peals of laughter yet again.
Tumblr media
Since he’d already spotted the two of you, you both d decided to head inside the store. You got out of the car, shut the door, and linked your arm with Robin’s as the two of you walked in, still giggling.
“What is going on with you two?” Eddie asked, your laughter infecting him and making him chuckle.
“Sorry- it’s really not funny.” Robin sighed, “It’s actually kinda shitty, but it’s ridiculous, so it’s a little funny.”
You nodded, releasing Robin’s arm so she could go look around the store while you turned to Eddie to explain. “My coworker, Mrs. Robinson, you remember her?” You asked.
Eddie nodded.
“Well, Robin and I went to Benny’s. She walked in and criticized my choice in men, essentially.. Were really laughing at how I basically stone faced my way through it and she looked like she was going to shit her pants.” You sighed, rubbing a hand through your hair.
“Oh..” he whispered, sticking his hands in his pockets, looking a little dejected.
“I defended you, though, I swear.” You assured him, reaching out to grab his forearm gently. “I didn’t just like, let her bad mouth you. I just kind of… told her off with a smile on my face.”
Eddie shook his head quickly, “Oh, I have no doubt that you did that. I just-“ he placed his hand over the one you’d placed on his arm, “I hate that you’re catching flack for this. Hawkins isn’t an easy town for the unconventional.” He whispered, looking a little sad.
You raised an eyebrow, “Eddie, my skin is thicker than you think. I can put up with a lot of shit. And I really don’t care what other people think, as long as we’re good.” Your hand dropped from his arm to his hand, “The literal only reason I waited was because of my job. Hawkins’ opinion of me is irrelevant.”
He sighed and nodded, leaning in and kissing your forehead gently, “You’re kind of a badass.” He mumbled into your hair.
Robin overheard that statement and smiled, “Hell yeah she is, man. You should’ve seen her- so calm and relaxed while also ripping that old fart a new one. It was great.”
You laughed, leaning into Eddie‘s touch for a moment before he had to get back to work. “Hope you don’t mind we stopped in. We weren’t planning on it.”
He waved a hand dismissively as he went back to alphabetizing records, “You guys are always welcome.”
“Is Sage here?” You asked in a whisper.
He nodded, “She’s in the break room in the back. I’m sure she’ll run out here soon- she’s almost finished with her snack. I bet she’ll be happy to see you guys. The poor girl has been so bored all day, I just can’t exactly give her much to do.”
You nodded and started walking around the store, deciding to get some music while you were there. You peeled over to Robin’s stack of cassettes, which consisted of the usual pop stuff you’d hear on the radio.
It didn’t take long for Sage to wander out of the back of the store. She first ran to Eddie, who pointed to you and Robin, whispering something you couldn’t hear. She beamed and ran over to where the two of you stood, yelling your names and pulling Robin’s legs into a bear hug before doing the same to your own.
“Hey, kiddo!” Robin smiled, “How ya doin’?”
“I’m so booorrreeeddd.” Sage groaned, tossing her head back dramatically. She looked just like her dad in that moment and you couldn’t help but giggle.
“I’m sorry, Sage.” You sighed, “But, I might have something you can do.”
She picked her head up and eyed you suspiciously, “What?”
You crouched down to her level, “I need help finding some good music. Can you help me pick some stuff out?” You asked, Robin chiming in a short, “Me too.”
Sage beamed, excited to have a mission to complete. She grabbed one of yours and one of Robin’s hands enthusiastically and led you two through the store, pointing at the sections she liked, which mostly consisted of kids records. You guys played along, picking up records and examining each one and making a show out of either putting them in your pile or wrinkling your nose and putting them back, making her laugh.
You were so focused that you didn’t notice how Eddie had lost his focus. His eyes trained on you as you humored his daughter, helping her combat her boredom. The corners of his mouth twitched into a small smile, his chest swelling with a mixture of pride and joy. He loved that the two of you were friends.
Robin spotted him while you were busy making Sage giggle by holding a record up to the light like you were inspecting a dollar bill. She smirked at him, seeing how he was watching you, causing a blush to bloom across his cheeks and making him whip his head back to his work quickly.
Robin turned back to you and whispered something in your ear, and you smiled and nodded at the idea. She then walked up to Eddie, clapping him on the back, causing him to jump a little.
“Hey buddy old pal.” She chuckled.
Eddie sighed and looked down at the girl, having a feeling she was up to something, “What do you want, Buckley?” He deadpanned.
She laughed loudly, “Oh shut up, I’m trying to help you.” She took a beat before nudging him, “You want us to take Sage off your hands for a couple hours? We were planning on going to see a movie later, so we could take Sage with us so she doesn’t have to sit around here all day. It would be a great way for the two of them to bond too.”
Eddie thought about it for a moment, wishing that he could’ve been the one going with the two of you instead of Robin. “Yeah, sure. Just- we aren’t telling Sage about us yet, so could you please be on your best behavior?” He asked her.
She smiled and nodded before spinning on her heel and going back over to you, nodding her head like a little kid who’d just been told they could have a sleepover. You smiled and continued searching the store with her.
After you’d been convinced to buy a couple random cassettes by Sage, you walked over to Eddie hand in hand with his daughter, “Hey, we’re ready to check out.” You smiled.
Eddie turned and nodded, heading to the register and trying not to get flustered by your smile and how you interacted with his daughter. He’d tried to date in the past, but everyone had quickly bolted when they’d heard about his kid. So seeing you embrace her, while also liking him, felt like some kind of miracle.
You placed your items on the counter and picked up Sage and placed her there as well, “So, dad, can Sage come with us to the movies?” You asked, acting like she was one of the girls. “We’ll only let her have all the popcorn and candy and soda she could ever want.”
Sage’s eyes lit up and she looked at Eddie excitedly, “Please?” She asked, giving him her best puppy-dog eyes. You copied her face, trying not to giggle.
He looked between the two of you, “You guys are going to be the death of me.” He chuckled, “But sure, Sage. You can go. We’ll just have to make sure we brush your teeth extra good before bed, okay?”
She nodded and smiled like it was Christmas morning, squealing and hugging you. You smiled and patted her back, watching Eddie put your items in a paper bag. She released you and you leaned over the counter, resting your elbows on the cool surface, “You want me to drop her off at your house after?” You asked.
He nodded, “Yeah, I get off work at 6, so I should be home by the time the movie gets out.” He handed you your bag and Robin walked up to purchase her items as well.
Once the two of you had everything, Robin picked up the bags and you picked up Sage, holding her on your hip like you’d been doing so for years. Eddie wanted to pull you into a kiss right then, but he knew better. That would’ve really confused Sage.
Robin smiled, “Well, thanks for letting us kidnap your child. We’ll be sure to spoil her so she won’t sleep tonight.” She joked.
The two of you walked back out to her car, and you buckled Sage into the back seat. “Oh, I think I forgot something inside. I’ll be right back.” You smiled before closing her door and walking into the shop. Robin knew exactly what you were doing, but she turned and talked to Sage to keep her occupied until you came back.
You walked back into the empty record shop and Eddie looked at you from the counter, “Hey- everything okay?” He asked. You smiled and walked behind the counter, then grabbed his hand and dragged him to the back room, which made him raise his eyebrows raise in shock, “What are you do-“
Once you were out of the field of view of the parking lot, you pulled Eddie down to kiss you. He was a bit surprised at first, but after a moment, he leaned into it and kissed you back, his arms wrapping around your waist.
Your arms wrapped around his shoulders and he pulled you close, melting into your presence. After a moment, he broke the kiss slowly and looked down at you, a little starstruck, “What was that about?” He asked, smiling against your lips, neither of you having backed away.
“I don’t care what anyone thinks. I like you.” You whispered, making eye contact with him and keeping him close.
He hummed, “I don’t either. And I like you too.” He leaned in once more and kissed you again, humming against your lips before you two separated, stepping back. “By the way, totally unfair that Sage gets a movie date before I do.”
You chuckled, “Our first date was a movie.”
“Yeah, but there wasn’t movie theatre popcorn.”
“Well I’m free this weekend if you want to go.”
He nodded and pecked you one more time before you turned and walked out, Eddie smacking your ass lightly as you walked away, causing you to giggle and roll your eyes as you left the store.

The ride to the theatre was filled with terrible singing, as Robin insisted on cranking up the radio and rolling the windows down. Once you guys pulled into the movie theatre parking lot, you helped Sage get out and the two of you held her hands, lifting her up and swinging her as you walked into the theatre.
You guys picked a child appropriate movie to watch, bought the tickets, then raided the concession stand, buying way more snacks than the three of you could consume within a 2 hour window. You found your seats and got comfy, passing the popcorn bucket between the three of you, Sage in the middle and having to use both hands, as the thing was half her size.
The movie started and Sage was transfixed, giggling at the obvious jokes while you and Robin chuckled at the jokes they included for the adults in the room. When she’d had her fill of the snacks, Sage sighed and leaned against you, resting her little head on your arm. You moved it and allowed her to rest on your side as you wrapped an arm around her.
You looked over at Robin, who’d noticed the sweet scene, and smiled softly. She gave you a subtle thumbs up and turned her attention back to the screen.
Eventually, Sage fell asleep against you, her head having slowly drifted to your lap with tired eyes. You played with her hair as she slept, and you and Robin sat through the rest of the movie, whispering “that’s what she said” every time the joke could’ve been set up.
Once the credits rolled, you slowly moved and picked Sage up, letting her sleep as you walked out to the car. You had to rouse her when you got in, though, as she needed to sit up so you could buckle her in. She whined, but complied, sleepy and rubbing her eyes.
The ride over to Eddie’s was quiet, the radio playing softly as you watched Hawkins pass outside of the window. Robin pulled into Eddie’s driveway and you suddenly realized that you hadn’t been to his house yet.
Sage had fallen asleep again in the backseat, so you slowly got her out, telling Robin that you had it- don’t worry. She stayed in the car as you walked to the front door and knocked, rubbing Sage’s back as you waited for him to answer.
Eddie opened the door and saw his baby girl asleep in your arms. The sight made his knees feel a little weak. “Hey.” He whispered, stepping aside to let you in.
You smiled and walked into his house. It was cozy. There weren’t many decorations, but there was a killer music collection in the living room, bookshelves lined with cassettes and records and CDs, along with a few different ways to play the music. An acoustic guitar sat in the corner, covered in sparkly princess stickers, courtesy of Sage. A bin of toys sat beside the couch, and Sage had apparently set up a stuffed animal tea party at the bar in the kitchen. You really wouldn’t have expected anything else. It was perfect.
“Sorry it’s kind of a mess.” He whispered.
You shook your head, “It’s fine.” You adjusted Sage on your hip, “Where’s her room? I can just go lay her down.”
He led you down a hallway and to a room that looked like a rainbow sparkle unicorn barfed in it. It was so cute. You laid Sage down in her little bed before you and Eddie snuck out. You stretched as the two of you walked back to the living room, “You have a good day at work?” You asked, raising your arms above your head and stretching your back.
“Yeah. The usual, I guess. Seeing you was nice.” He smiled, reaching over and placing a hand on your waist, “Thank you for taking Sage. She was so bored. I feel bad- I really can’t afford a regular babysitter during the summers, so I just take her with me. There’s a tv and stuff in the break room, but having to entertain yourself for that long when you’re five years old is not easy.”
You nodded, “Of course, Eddie. I love hanging out with her.” You hummed, “And if she’s ever bored again, you can always call me and I can take her for the day.”
“You don’t have to do that.” He said softly.
“Yeah, I don’t. But Sage is a fun kid. Plus it’ll get me out of the house. I feel like I’m rotting in there.” You joked.
He chuckled, “Thank you.” He whispered before pulling you in for a hug. You hugged him back, taking in how he smelled: dust from the record store, a stale cigarette, coffee, and cologne mixed into an interesting and intoxicating smell that was distinctly him. You backed out of the hug, then looked down the hallway to ensure Sage wasn’t walking down it before leaning up and kissing him sweetly.
“I’ll see you this weekend?” You asked, looking hopeful.
He nodded, “Of course. I can’t wait.” He smiled.
You nodded and left his house, piling back into Robin’s car and driving off, feeling warm and fuzzy all over. Maybe you could let yourself start to think about the future a little more.

Eddie received a call a few days later that Steve was having another party at his house now that all the kids were back from school and now that Nancy was finally okay with having people come to visit. He said that anyone was invited, but to just keep everything chill.
That night, on your nightly phone call, Eddie brought it up to you.
“So, Steve is having everyone come to his house in a couple days, if you want to come.”
“I’d love to!” You smiled, sitting in your living room with Pencil plopped down in your lap. “Who all is going to be there?”
“Well, Steve and Nancy, baby Charlie, Robin, Will, Max, Lucas, Mike… I think El is going to be there, Dustin.. and I think I’m going to bring Sage too. The kids love her, and she loves babies so she’ll love seeing Charlie.”
“Ah, nice.” You said, pausing for a moment before speaking up, “Are you okay with me being around Sage?” You asked hesitantly.
He thought for a moment, tapping his fingers on the counter in his kitchen. “I think it’ll be easier on her when it’s in a group setting. She might not be as.. confused, I guess.” He said.
You played with the bracelet on your wrist, letting the phone sit between your ear and your shoulder, “We don’t have to tell her anything. We can keep things casual; just say I’m one of your friends.” You reassured him, “And I am your friend, so like, you wouldn’t have to feel guilty because it’s not like you’re lying to her.”
He sighed, “Yeah… I may not even bring her.”
“No, Eddie. You should bring her- she’ll have fun seeing all her buddies. Don’t worry about me. I’ll keep my distance and just like, hang out with Robin or something. I don’t want to like, disrupt her life just because we’re a thing.” You said, “It’s not fair to her.”
“Yeah, you’re right. She loves Max.” He chuckled.
“And I’ll drive myself, so don’t worry about th-“ your phone started beeping, signaling you were getting another call, “Oh, can I call you right back? Someone else is calling me.”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back.” You said before clicking a button on your phone to hang up the call with Eddie and answer the new call, “Hello?”
“Hey.” Greeted Robin on the other end of the line
“Hey! What’s up?” You asked. She didn’t call often, but you enjoyed talking to her.
“Ah- not much. Hey, are you coming to Steve’s on Wednesday?” She asked, sounding excited.
You laughed, “I was actually just talking to Eddie on the other line about that.”
“Oh nice. So you’re coming with him?” She asked. You’d told her about your first date, and she was over the moon for the two of you.
“I think we’re trying to figure that out right now. He’s going to bring Sage, so it’s.. kinda complicated.”
“Oh, yeah, that’s understandable.” She said, the phone muddled as she sounded like she was doing something on the other end. “Has he, like, officially introduced you as a person of interest?”
“Person of interest? Am I committing a crime?” You giggled.
“Well I don’t know what you two are!” She laughed.
You sighed, “Yeah, I don’t think we do either. We’ve been on two dates, but like, we’ve known each other for a while now. It feels too soon to label it, so I don’t think he’ll want to tell Sage about it until we’re more serious. Which I agree with, of course.”
“Smart move. But oooh, second date? Give me every detail.” She smiled.
“I will later, for sure. But I’ve got to call Eddie back.”
“I can give you a ride there if you want, if you’re coming. We can talk all about it then. Just let me know what you decide.” She smiled.
“For sure. Talk to ya later, Robs.”
“See ya!” She hung up the phone, then you dialed Eddie’s number again.
You listened to it ring a couple times before you heard him pick up. “Hey, sorry about that- Robin called. Where were we?” You asked.
“Sage and distance?” He suggested.
“Oh, yeah… right, well, either way, Eddie, I want to do whatever you’re comfortable with.” You told him.
“You wouldn’t be offended if we weren’t like, affectionate or something?” He asked, a bit worried.
You caught on that he was really worried about your feelings too, not just Sage’s. “Of course not, Eds. I want what’s best for Sage too. And she’s your daughter, so I will do whatever you think will be good for her. I’m just happy to hang out with you guys.” You kicked your legs, “And it’s not like we haven’t kept us a secret before, so we know how to go about it, and all.”
You heard him shift, “Yeah, I just.. don’t want to go back to that. I like that we’re dating now. But at the same time, I want to protect Sage’s feelings while we figure everything out. I guess I’m a bit conflicted is what I’m trying to say.”
You nod, “Yeah, I see why. And it wouldn’t be a big secret again. I think this stuff is normal dating things though; keeping it from your kids until you know a bit more, right? A lot of single parents do that.”
“Well, I guess when you put it like that it makes sense.” He smiled.
“Yeah. So, I’ll make plans to come, but if you feel uncomfortable or hesitant about it, please feel free to let me know and I won’t come. No hard feelings at all, I promise.”
“Thank you for being so understanding about all of this.” He whispered.
“Of course, Eddie.”
The two of you chatted for a while longer about small things before getting off the phone. You sat back in your chair, thinking. You understood Eddie’s hesitations completely. You worked with kids, so you knew how delicate and sensitive they could be, especially with things like this.

Wednesday arrived, and Robin stopped by your house to pick you up. You were still getting ready when she arrived, so you invited her in and she sat on your counter as you finished your makeup.
“So, tell me all about the second date!” She said excitedly as you swiped on some eyeshadow.
You smiled, “Well, he took me to Indianapolis.”
“Why that far out?”
“He bought me concert tickets. We had a little road trip. It was all really fun.” You said, grabbing a tube of mascara.
Robin groaned, “Come ooon, I need juicer details than that.”
You chuckled, unscrewing the cap, “Well, I’m not one to really kiss and tell.”
She smirked and pulled her legs up on the counter, sitting crisscrossed, “Oooh, so you two made out again?” You gave her a look, raising an eyebrow, and her jaw dropped, “No you didn’t.” She said, shocked.
You shrugged, a little smug. You opened your mouth slightly as you applied your mascara and watched the gears turn in Robin’s brain.
“Was it, like…good? I mean, boys are gross so I don’t want every detail about that.”
You finished with one eye and looked over at her, “Robin, it was perfect. I have no complaints.” You chuckled.
She wrinkled her nose, “Ew.” She laughed as she shoved your shoulder. “You’re all happy and gross.”
You giggled before applying mascara to your other eye. “To be fair, I waited a long time for this. I get to be all happy and gross.”
She shook her head, “No, be sad and single like me.” She whined. Her girlfriend had recently dumped her, and while Robin took it like a champ, you’d helped her through it.
“Don’t worry. When Eddie and I don’t work out, I’ll just be your wife instead.” You joked, “Just be patient.”
She laughed as you stepped back and looked yourself in the mirror, happy with your makeup.
“Want me to do yours?” You offered.
Robin nodded. She wasn’t normally one to wear makeup, but it was a girl-bonding rite of passage. You smiled and got to work. “Any luck finding any single ladies around here?” You asked as you put a tiny bit of concealer under her eyes.
“Ugh, no. I’ll probably have to travel outside of Hawkins to find anyone who even likes girls. Much less, anyone who is into me.”
You put powder on her face, “You’ll find someone. I’m sure of it. You’re a catch.” You smiled.
“You’re sure you weren’t joking about marrying me?” She teased.
You laughed and dabbed on a tiny amount of blush on her cheeks. “Yeah, sorry. Eddie’s pretty cool, so I think I’ll see where that leads.”
“Yeah, whatever.” She hummed, closing her eyes as you did her eyeliner.
Once you were done, she looked in the mirror and smiled. You hadn’t put much on, just enough to accentuate her features. On the rare occasion she’d worn makeup since you’d met her, she wore about this amount. “Thanks!” She smiled, “I like the eyeliner a lot. You’ll have to teach me how to do it next time.”
“Of course.” You smiled as went into your closet to grab your shoes. “Ready to go?” You asked. She nodded, and the two of you walked out of your house and into her car.

Once you arrived at the Harrington residence, you and Robin walked in to find a packed living room. Everyone was there, including Sage. Steve walked up and hugged Robin, patting her on the back before pulling you into a big hug as well.
“You guys want to meet Charlie?” He asked, nodding over to Nancy who was holding the small baby in her arms.
“Oh my god, yes.” You smiled. Robin nodded and Nancy handed you the baby first. He was so small. You smiled down at him, bouncing him gently. He was awake, so you expected him to cry from being handed off to a stranger, but he just cooed at you.
“Wow, he’s normally pretty fussy.” Nancy mused as you held him.
You smiled, still looking down at the small boy and missing the way Eddie was looking at you from across the room. Charlie smiled and giggled as you stuck your tongue out, making a silly face at him. You then looked over at Robin, “You wanna hold him?” You asked.
She put both hands up, “I don’t do well with babies.” She chuckled.
You watched at Steve nudged her arm, “Yeah. Robin had to babysit one time, and she called me panicking because the baby wouldn’t stop screaming. She didn’t realize it was because the poor thing had a dirty diaper. When I got there, I tried to explain to her how to change it, but she was too busy freaking out and I had to do it.” He laughed.
You chuckled and looked back to Nancy, “Want him back?” You asked.
“Nope.” She said, dusting off her hands. “I am going to go lay in bed and give my arms a break. You two have fun.” She said as she walked off back to her bedroom.
You looked at Steve, confused. “Yeah- he’s been in a bit of a ‘mommy’ phase here- he won’t even let me hold him for that long without crying. I’m surprised he’s cool with you.”
You smiled down at the small baby, letting him grip one of your fingers in his tiny fist, “Well, it’s because I’m so cool, unlike your dad. Huh, Charlie?” You joked, causing him to laugh loudly and walk back to the couch, you and Robin trailing behind him.
Sage looked up from the coloring page that had been occupying her when you entered and saw you as you were sitting down on the couch. She quickly scrambled to stand up and ran over to you, “Hi!” She squealed, very obviously happy to see you. You glanced across the room at Eddie to make sure he was okay with this, and he gave you a small nod, smiling fondly.
You chuckled, “Hi Sage. Whatcha coloring over there?” You asked, nodding to her work.
“Will drew me a dragon and I’m coloring it in!” She smiled, rushing to grab the page and show you. It was a very well drawn dragon covered in purple and blue scribbles.
“Looks great, kiddo.” You smiled. In your class, you’d worked on coloring inside the lines with her, but she liked to do things her own way and you knew that.
She beamed before looking at the baby in your arms, “Do you like baby Charlie?” She asked, “He doesn’t like me. He cried when I holded him.”
“I do like baby Charlie, and I’m sure he likes you too. Sometimes, babies just cry. Since he can’t talk yet, crying is his only way to talk to you.” You informed her gently.
“Well he talked really loud.” She said before going back to her spot on the floor to continue her artwork, Will sitting next to her and drawing more pictures for her to color in as he joked around with Lucas.
Robin looked over at the baby before looking to you, “You’re like, really good with kids.”
“Yeah, we’ll it’s what I get paid to do, so I would hope so.” You giggled.
“Want anything to drink?”
“Sure. Whatever you’re drinking is fine.” You said.
She got up from the couch, but before she walked off, she whispered in your ear. “Dude, Eddie is giving you major goo-goo eyes over there.”
You laughed and watched her go before looking over at Eddie. She was right. He looked totally love struck. He noticed that you’d seen him, and he quickly turned to talk to Steve, trying to cover the blush on his cheeks.
You hummed and looked down at Charlie, who’d slowly started to fall asleep in your arms. You were sat next to Max, so the two of you started talking quietly. You asked her about school, and she’d gone off on a whole rant about how one of her professors lost one of her papers and said she never turned it in, but when they were talking about it in his office, she found it sticking out of the bottom of a stack of papers. And somehow, when she found it, he got mad that she did and gave her a bad grade anyways because ‘she shouldn’t be looking at the papers on his desk’.
Robin came back with a two cans of coke, and you accepted the one she handed you kindly. You were careful not to move too much, as you didn’t want to rouse Charlie. The three of you talked, eventually letting El in on the conversation too, and watched as the boys acted like they were still in high school, laughing at their antics.
You were glad that you seemed to fit right in, the group easily accepting you as one of their own. When you first moved to Hawkins, you wondered if you’d ever find anything like this.
Charlie was drooling on your arm, and Steve got up to take him to his crib once he noticed the baby was fast asleep. You handed him off carefully before getting up to go rinse the baby spit off of yourself. Eddie followed you to the kitchen, knowing Sage was preoccupied with Mike.
You were standing over the sink, rubbing your arm with a wet paper towel when you felt a hand on your waist. The kitchen was out of view from the living room, so he felt comfortable doing so. You looked up at him and smiled, “Hey.” You whispered
“Hey.” He whispered back, leaning down and pecking your lips. “I’m glad you’re here.”
“Me too.” You smiled, setting the paper towel down and turning to face him. “Thanks for inviting me.”
“Anytime.” He gave you one more quick kiss before hearing small footsteps approaching the kitchen. He quickly turned and opened the fridge, acting like he was loony for something as you grabbed the paper towel and moved to throw it away.
Sage walked in and grabbed her dad’s jacket, tugging on it to get his attention, “Can I have a snack?” She asked.
You smiled and walked out of the kitchen, leaving him to it.
Tumblr media
More talking, more laughing, more budding friendships. You had a great time getting to know everyone more, hearing stories of what Eddie was like as a new dad and how he was apparently the best dungeon master known to man in D&D.
After a while, Sage pulled Max and Will to the floor, trying to get them to paint her nails. Once they sat down next to her. She got up and stood in front of you, “Can you braid my hair?” She asked sweetly, “I wanna princess braid.”
You looked over at Eddie, who gave you the go ahead, and then turned your attention back to the girl in front of you, “Of course. One or two?” You asked.
“Two!”
“Okay. Go find some ponytail holders for me.” You said, scooting down to the floor with the other two. She ran off, coming back out with Nancy and holding a bottle of pink nail polish and two ponytail holders. You’d asked Max what a princess braid was, and she explained it was just a French braid.
Sage sat between the three of you, holding her hands out for Max and Will to paint as she tipped her head back for you to braid her hair. You smiled softly and carefully parted her hair down the middle, making sure not to tug too hard. You worked on the right one first, braiding her long, curly hair with ease. You tied it off at the end, then worked on the other one, leaving a few pieces out to frame her face.
Eddie watched how you interacted with her, seeing how gentle you were, and it made his chest feel warm and fuzzy.
Once you finished, Max and Will had finished painting her nails. She spread her fingers and squealed, happy with the results. She showed you, and you said she looked like a princess.
She ran to the bathroom to look at her hair and came back, twirling into the room to show it off. Everyone clapped quietly for her, knowing she liked being the center of attention (just like her dad), before she smiled at you and praised your hair-braiding skills.
The night ended with Steve popping a movie into the VCR and everyone smushed together on or around the couch, watching the TV and laughing at the stupid jokes the movie provided.
Robin drove you back home that night, after Eddie gave you a friendly hug goodbye.
“So, are we going to talk about how Eddie was looking at you like he wanted to make you a mother earlier?” She laughed.
“Jesus, Robin, getting right to it, huh?” You chuckled a little nervously.
“Sorry, but he was! It would’ve been weird if you weren’t together.” She smiled.
“I don’t want to make assumptions about any of that.” You sighed, “I don’t want to get ahead of myself. It’s too early on.”
She nodded, “Yeah, sure. But you can’t deny that he couldn’t keep his eyes off of you when you were holding Charlie. He was totally all starry-eyed, dude.”
“Maybe. Or maybe I’m just pretty or something.” You joked.
Robin hummed and turned onto your street, “He wasn’t always like this, you know. Even up to right before he met you. He’s mellowed out a lot here lately. I think after Alice, he was pretty messed up.” She said quietly, “He seems happy again.”
You couldn’t fight the smile on your face after hearing that. Once Robin dropped you off, you walked back into your house and got showered and changed. You were about to head to bed when you heard the phone ring in your living room.
You quickly jogged do go answer it, knowing it was Eddie before you even picked up.
“Hey.” You smiled.
“Hey.” You heard him whisper, “You looked really pretty today.” He automatically complimented you, wishing he could’ve said it earlier.
You smiled, sitting down, “Thanks, Eds. Did you have fun tonight?” You asked.
“Yeah. I wish we’d been able to talk more… thank you, by the way.. for being so understanding about Sage, and all. She had fun. She didn’t want to take out her braids before she went to bed.”
You laughed and the two of you filled in the conversation you’d had to hold back earlier that night.
You really liked how you were fitting in to Eddie’s life.

Once the concert was over, you could feel your heartbeat in your ears and you body still vibrated from both the adrenaline coursing through your veins and the loud drums and bass line from the last song. Eddie looked down at you, his hair still in a ponytail but it had become a bit frizzy from dancing around, and beamed. He was so proud that he could take you places like this and you would actually have fun.
He led you out of the venue, holding your hand so you didn’t get lost in the sea of people. Once the two of you got back in the van, the quiet consumed you for a moment, coming down from the high of the concert.
Eddie laid his head back against his headrest and sighed, “You have fun?” He asked quietly, looking your way.
You nodded, “Mmhmm.”
“Good.” He whispered, taking another beat before cranking the ignition.
It was nearing ten o’clock, so he needed to start the drive home if the two of you wanted to be home at any sort of reasonable hour. You closed your eyes as you felt the car pull out of its parking space and onto the road. You were exhausted, but you didn’t want to sleep so Eddie wouldn’t have to sit in silence for two hours.
“Thank you for bringing me along. I think I might be a super fan now.”
“Of course. I bought the tickets for you, you know.” He hummed, “And seeing bands live is always better than just listening to them on the radio.”
“Yeah, I think I can officially agree with that now.” You smiled, opening your eyes and looking at him.
He paused for a moment, then raised an eyebrow, “Was that your first concert?” He asked, a bit shocked.
“First one like that. I mean, I’d been to like, classical concerts and piano recitals of course, and a couple small, basement shows in high school, but that was my first big concert.”
“Really? I thought you would’ve been a total ticket junkie by how much you love music.” He chuckled.
“Nope. Not before, at least. But I think you may have started a new addiction, so thanks for that.”
Eddie laughed quietly, and a comfortable silence fell over the two of you as the stereo of the car pumped out more of the band’s music at a low volume.
The rest of the drive was spent quietly talking about all the cool things about the show and how you’d have to keep an eye out for new shows in the future. It was hard for you not to fall asleep, but you managed to stay awake.
Eddie pulled the van into your driveway, shifting it into park.
“Wanna come in?” You asked, grabbing your purse from his floor.
“Sure.” He smiled. He’d paid the babysitter for the whole night, so he wasn’t against the idea.
You led him into your house and picked up Pencil, who’d run to you as soon as she heard the door unlock, walking in. You kicked off your shoes by the door, your feet aching as you’d felt a blister slowly start to form over the hours. Eddie did the same, not wanting to track dirt or whatever godforsaken crap had gotten on them at the venue into your home.
You walked to your bedroom and flipped onto your bed, Pencil still in your arms. “I’m so tired.” You groaned, closing your eyes as you sunk into your mattress. You heard Eddie chuckle as you felt him sit next to you, reaching a hand over and scratching Pencil’s chin as she lifted her head.
“Me too. I had fun, though.”
“Same here.” You said, looking over at him. He was focused on Pencil, smiling softly as she purred. “You wanna spend the night?” You asked.
He is gaze fell on you, “I really need to shower.”
“Believe it or not, this house is equipped with a nice shower. And it’s got plenty of hot water, thanks to you.” You giggled.
“If you’re okay with it, then yeah, I’d love to.”
You nodded, happy to have him there. “You go shower first. I can make us a little late dinner.” He said, kissing your head softly as he got up to go to your kitchen.
You pushed Pencil off of your chest gently and got up, trudging to your bathroom. You cranked on the hot water, stripping off your clothes and stepping in once it was hot enough. You rinsed all the sweat off and quickly lathered and rinsed, not wanting to take too long. You finished up and toweled off, wrapping one around your hair and getting in your favorite pajamas, which was an oversized shirt and underwear.
You padded your way to the kitchen, seeing Eddie boiling some pasta on the stove. You walked up behind him and hugged him from behind, smelling like soap and the perfume he loved. He placed his hands over yours. The whole thing felt so domestic. You kissed his shoulder blade and rested your towel covered head there, sighing softly. He turned the stove off, and you moved away to sit on the island of the kitchen as you watched him drain the pasta. He’d also warmed up a jar of alfredo sauce, and you smiled, “This is my favorite comfort meal, you know.”
“I remembered you mentioning it once.” He hummed, placing the pot of now drained noddles on the stove. He dished out two bowls and handed you one before searching the drawers for utensils. You pointed to the right one and he opened it, grabbing two forks. He stood facing you, leaning on the counter you sat on as the two of you ate in silence. You’d mumbled a thank you, to which he nodded.
Once he finished, he rinsed his bowl and placed it in the dishwasher, then grabbed the now empty pots off of the stove and stood over the sink to wash them. You ate the last bite of your food and hopped down from the counter before walking up behind him and placing your hand on his back.
“You go shower. I’ll take care of this.” You said, tapping him out. He nodded, leaning down and kissing you gently before heading off to your bedroom. You’d left out a fresh towel and another one of your oversized shirts for him to wear, as well as a pair of pajama pants you’d been given that were entirely too large on you, but you’d accepted anyways because they were a gift.
You rinsed your own bowl and fork, sticking them in the dishwasher before scrubbing the pots down and dried them off with a dish towel before placing them back in a cabinet.
You walked back to your bedroom and knocked on the bathroom door, sticking your head in, “Can I come in? I need to brush my teeth.” You called over the noise of the shower.
“Yeah, of course.” He called back.
You entered the bathroom and unraveled the towel from your hair and brushed it out before grabbing your toothbrush. You brushed your teeth as you listened to Eddie him quietly to himself in the shower. You spit out the toothpaste and wipes the corner of your before walking over to the shower.
You peeled back the curtain just enough to stick your head in, facing him as he washed his face. “Hey.” You smiled.
He chuckled and looked back at you, “Hey.”
“Kiss me.” You said, closing your eyes and puckering your lips expectantly.
“You’re gonna get all wet.” He laughed, rinsing your soap off of his face.
“I don’t care. Kiss me.” You said, resuming your pose.
He giggled and leaned down, placing a sweet kiss to your lips, his hair rewetting your own a little.
You smiled once he pulled away, “Thanks.” You said, pulling your head out of the curtain and shutting it again before walking back into your bedroom, closing the bathroom door behind you.
You turned on your bedside lamp before turning off the overhead light and crawled under your covers, sitting against the headboard so you would be awake when Eddie got out of the shower.
Your attempts didn’t work though, as you slowly drifted to sleep sitting up. Once Eddie finished his shower, he got dressed and scrubbed his hair off with his towel. He walked out of the bathroom, seeing you and chuckling, walking to the other side of the bed. He crawled up and shook your shoulder gently.
“Hey,” he whispered, “let’s go to bed.”
His voice roused you enough for you to nod and lay down, cuddling up close to him as he laid next to you. He wrapped his arm around your side as the two of you quickly fell asleep, holding each other close.
Tumblr media
The next morning, you awoke with Eddie’s arm around you, holding your back to his chest. You were a little confused when you first woke up, but after a second, the memories flooded back and you smiled, pulling his arm tighter around you as you snuggled into him. You traced the tattoo on his forearm while you listened to his slow breathing, letting yourself soak in the moment.
After a little while, you slowly peeled yourself from his arms and slipped out of bed, managing not to wake him. You walked to the kitchen and started your coffee pot, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes as you waited for it to brew. You grabbed two mugs, filling your own with cream and sugar, and leaving his empty, knowing he liked his coffee black. The coffee pot clicked, signifying it was done, so you quickly poured out to cups and walked carefully back to your bed. You set them down on your bedside table before crawling back into bed, sitting up and rubbing Eddie’s back.
He slowly woke up, stretching like a cat before looking up at you and smiling, “G’mornin.” He grumbled, his voice all raspy and deep from sleep.
You smiled, reaching over for his mug. “Good morning.” You whispered, seeing him spot the mug. His eyes widened slightly and he sat up, leaning against your headboard as he slowly took the mug from your hands.
“You’re an angel.” He smiled sleepily, leaning over to kiss your lips sweetly before sitting back to take a sip of the hot coffee.
You smiled and grabbed your own, taking a sip and humming. The two of you drank your coffee in silence, leaning against each other and waking up slowly as the soft morning sunlight poured into your window.
Once you’d finished half of your mug, you spoke. “How’d you sleep?”
“Like a rock. That’s probably the best sleep I’ve had since I stopped smoking weed.” He whispered.
You chuckled, “Me too. Well, I didn’t smoke, but I slept really well.”
“Good.” He hummed, reaching over and setting his mug down. You did the same, then he pulled you close, kissing the top of your head as he rubbed your arm.
You leaned into his touch, loving the quiet the morning provided. The two of you stayed snuggled up together for a while, letting the minutes tick past. Eventually, he turned reached up and took your chin in his hand, pulling it towards his face and kissing you gently once again. You pulled away after a second, covering your mouth with your hand, “I have coffee breath.” You whispered, almost getting up to brush your teeth before he grabbed your waist, keeping you in place.
“I do too. Kiss me anyways.” He smiled.
That was all the convincing it took for you to lean back and kiss him again, soft and sweet and sleepy. He kept his hand on your waist, using his thumb to rub comforting circles on your skin.
It all felt so familiar, like you’d been doing this for years, when in reality, this was the first time you’d woken up next to him. You could definitely get used to this.
He eventually broke the kiss and motioned for you to lay down. You did so, and he crawled over you, pulling the covers over his back. He smiled and bent down to kiss you again, at a better angle this time. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders as he deepened the kiss, humming softly when he licked your bottom lip.
Instead of everything feeling so heated and quick like last night, Eddie took his time, kissing you slowly and letting his hands explode every inch of you. It felt comforting and intimate. You let your hands wander too, touching his arms, his chest, his neck, his hair that was messy from sleep.
He moved his kisses down to your neck and you smiled softly, pulling him closer to you. He smelled like coffee and your lavender shampoo with a hint of something distinctly Eddie. He loved the way your hands lazily splayed across his chest as he kissed a spot that made goosebumps crawl across your arms.
His hands slowly slid under your shirt, running up your sides, memorizing every detail. He had all the time in the world to do so, and he planned on utilizing each moment. He slowly slid your shirt up and over your head, taking care to kiss every piece of your skin he could once he had access to it.
You tugged at his shirt and he sat up and peeled it off, tossing it on the floor. He bent to kiss you again but you stopped him, holding your arms out so he would sit up. You raked your eyes over his body, getting a good look at his tattoos finally, running your hand over the one on his chest. He smirked softly as he watched your eyes study them, letting you have your little moment.
You eventually made eye contact, and he took that as your signal to come back and kiss you once again. You wrapped one of your legs around his waist, pulling him closer, and you felt his hand grab your thigh, gripping the soft flesh gently. You’d also felt him, hard and pressing against your panties. You moaned quietly into mouth as he slowly ground against you, enjoying the friction.
You tugged at his pants, and he stayed connected to your lips as he tugged them down and kicked them off. Once he’d gotten them out of the way, you reached a down between the two of you and took him into your hand. You slowly stroked his cock, humming against his lips as you realized how big he was. He took one of your breasts into his hand, gently massaging it as he groaned against your lips, keening into your hand.
After a minute, he broke your kiss and looked down at you, his breathing a little ragged. “Do you want..” he whispered, grasping at straws to find the words in his cloudy brain.
“Yeah.. yes, Eddie.” You whispered back, knowing what he was trying to ask.
He nodded and leaned down, kissing your neck and slowly tugging your underwear off, being careful not to pull too hard and ruin another pair. You lifted your legs for him, helping him get the fabric off of your body. He tossed it somewhere in your room and you spread your legs as his right hand slowly moved from your inner thigh to your cunt, his thumb sliding up and making slow circles on your clit. You moaned softly, your hand moving from his dick to his back, enjoying the feeling of his mouth and his fingers and how his hair felt on your chest. It was all-consuming, but not overwhelming. Gentle, slow, perfect.
You were already wet, but he still took his time with his fingers, slowly pushing them into you and curling them upward, massaging your g-spot as he listened to your quiet moans. He left a small hickey on the underside of your breast after he’d rolled his tongue around your nipple.
“Eddie, please.” You whined softly, gently tangling your fingers in his hair, causing him to look into your eyes, “I need you.” You practically begged.
He moved up and kissed you gently, grinding against you again, this time without any fabric separating you. You whined against his lips, so he lined himself up and broke the kiss, looking into your eyes. You stared back at his blown pupils. “You sure, baby?” He asked one last time.
“Yes.. please, Eds.” You whispered, your breath ghosting his lips.
He kissed your temple before pushing into you. He went extremely slow, letting you adjust. Your hands tightened on his scalp, holding his face close to your own as you let out small, breathy moans until he was buried to hilt. He didn’t move, waiting until you gave him the go ahead.
After a minute or so, you nodded and he began to push in and out of you, kissing every inch of you that was with his reach, one arm holding himself up and the other supporting one of the thighs you’d wrapped around him.
He never made an attempt to speed up, instead, going at an agonizing pace but making sure to push into you as deep as possible with each thrust. One of your hands stayed in his hair, while the other held into his shoulder to brace yourself as your back arched.
The hand on your thigh eventually moved between the two of you, two of his fingers rubbing your clit, making him moan into your ear when he felt you clench around him.
You felt a knot in your stomach slowly tighten as your breath picked up and your moans progressively became more frequent. You were spilling praises, telling him how good he felt and how close you were.
He kissed up your neck, his breath hot against your already burning skin, “Say my name.” He instructed.
You moaned at that, “God.. Eddie.. you’re- yes keep going.”
He kept his rhythm, feeling you get tighter as you got closer to your climax. “Come on baby,” he breathed in your ear, “cum for me.”
After a few more thrusts, you were arching your back and moaning his name as he rutted into you. “Fuck.” He groaned, close himself.
Once you’d regained yourself a little, you wrapped your legs tighter around him, “I’m on the pill, Eddie.” You whispered, “Please.. I need to feel it.”
That was all it took for him to groan and fill you up, his hips snapping into you a couple times as he finished. Once he’d come down from the high, he slowly pulled out of you, apologizing when he saw you wince slightly.
He flopped down on the bed next to you, causing you to giggle breathlessly. You turned on your side and rubbed his back gently. He smiled and pulled you close, cuddling up with you and peppering kisses on your face, loving the sound of your quiet laughter.
Tumblr media
The two of you stayed like that for another hour, whispering and giggling, your hands gently tracing shapes on the arm that held you so close. He kissed you every chance he got, smiling against your lips.
Eventually he sighed, “I should probably relieve the babysitter of her duties soon.”
You nodded, understanding, and sat up, grabbing your now cold coffee off of your night stand and taking a sip, tugging your covers up to keep yourself warm. He got out of bed and got dressed in the clothes he’d worn last night, aware of your eyes on him as he did so. He pulled his jeans up and stuck his hip out to the side, posing and making you laugh. Once he was fully dressed, he walked over to you and kissed you again.
“I’ll call you tonight?” He asked.
“Of course.” You smiled, pecking him one last time before you watched him leave your room. You heard the front door close and you hummed, finishing up your coffee in the quiet hours of the morning.

After your first date, Eddie continued his tradition of calling you every night. You were a little worried that it might stop because you two were actually a thing now, but he didn’t. You were always grateful to hear his voice.
After four days, he’d asked to see you again. You agreed, and set a date for that Friday at 5, which you thought was really early, but he insisted on the time. He refused to tell you his plans though, and you’d asked if this would be a normal occurrence. He laughed and confirmed that, yes, he planned on surprising you every opportunity he got.
Friday came and you got dressed in an pair of dark wash jeans and a black, flowy top that showed a little cleavage. Eddie had told you that tonight would be more casual, and to wear really comfortable shoes. You had no idea what was going to happen, but after your first date, you trusted that he knew what he was doing. You’d tied your hair back, pulling out a few pieces to frame your face, did your makeup how you liked, then threw on some shoes that, admittedly, maybe weren’t as comfortable as Eddie had told you to wear, but they matched the outfit, so you’d suffer for beauty.
You didn’t feel nervous this time. A second date is a lot less pressure on a person.
Eddie, however, did not feel the same. He was really worried about how this one would go. He felt like it would be difficult to top the first date. You’d told him it was perfect, and he wanted to make sure that every date felt better than the last. He wore his normal attire- band tee, leather jacket and denim vest, ripped jeans, and his favorite silver metal adorning his hands.
Once the babysitter was all set for the night, he thanked her and kissed Sage’s cheeks. Before he headed out, he made sure to grab the concert tickets he’d bought a few months ago, his wallet, keys, and a hair tie just in case the venue got too hot. It was a metal concert, and while this band wasn’t known for mosh pits, he knew the crowd would be large. The tickets weren’t cheap, but he’d slowly given you a couple of their cassettes once he’d scored the tickets, and you really liked their stuff, so he hoped you’d be excited to see them in concert.
He drove to your house, playing their music and getting more nervous by the minute. He really had no idea if this would be your scene; you always seemed so sweet, and he wasn’t sure if you’d like the chaotic environment he was bringing you into. It was more his vibe.
He knocked on your door, sticking his hands in his pockets to keep himself from picking at the skin around his fingers, an anxious habit he’d picked up in middle school. You answered the door, smiling so bright he felt blinded.
“Hiya, handsome. Where are we going this early?” You asked, excited and hoping he’d relent and tell you.
Eddie chuckled and nodded to his van, “You’ll see.” He smirked, hoping to cover the nerves with cockiness. You walked out of your house, locked the door behind you, and held his arm as he guided you to the passenger side of his van.
He opened your door, as always, before getting in on his side. He cranked the car and turned on the music you’d hear again later that night, hoping to at least give you a small hint. You crossed your legs and gave him a look that he swore could’ve killed him. You looked so sexy, and now you were looking at him like he was your world.
“Come ooon, Eds. I’m dying to know what we’re doing at 5pm on a Friday. I never took you as an ‘eating dinner like an elderly person’ kind of guy.” You giggled as he pulled out of your driveway.
“Well, I’ll give you a small hint,” he relented. “Indianapolis.”
“Ah- I guess that makes sense.” You nodded. The drive was a little two hours away from Hawkins, so you now understood the timing, at least. “What are we doing there?” You asked, pushing it further.
He reached over and grabbed your hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing it gently, “Going on a date.”
You held his hand as he drove, and you narrowed your eyes at him, but dropped the subject, figuring you’d know soon.
The two of you chatted as you drove, flipping the tape over. He cranked the radio up when a song came on that you both loved, and the two of you sang loudly as you drove through a small city in between the endless stretches of corn fields that Indiana was full of. He stopped at a gas station, and you hopped out.
“I’m gonna grab some road snacks.” You told him, “What’s your gas station order?”
He told you what he wanted, and when you started to head in, he grabbed your hand before you could get too far, pulling you back to give him a kiss. You smiled against his lips before he released you. You gave him one more peck before turning to walk towards the small store and he wolf whistled, listening to your bright laugh as you disappeared behind the doors.
You grabbed the snacks required to make it through the rest of the ride, paid, and by the time you’d made it back to the car, Eddie was putting the pump back into the machine. You held up the bag, and he smiled at you.
“You’re an angel.” He said, opening your door for you. You plopped down into the passenger seat, and he didn’t close the door immediately. Instead, he leaned into the car, placing a hand on your thigh. “You look,” he whispered, squeezing the denim covering you, “so hot.”
You set the bag down on the floor by your feet and placed your hands on his cheeks gently, “Yeah?”
He nodded, absolute putty in your hands. You smirked and moved a hand to run through his hair, tugging it to pull him close, “Well have you looked in a mirror lately?” Your voice ghosting over his lips.
He closed the gap quickly, kissing you hard. You kissed him back with the same amount of force. Instead of leaning down, you pulled his hair up a bit so you could kiss him at a better angle. He groaned against your lips, which sent shivers down your spine. He pulled his lips away after a second, looking at you with blown pupils.
“If you aren’t careful, we won’t make it to our destination.” He warned.
You hummed, “And where are we going exactly? I’d like to decide if it’s worth it.”
Jesus, your confidence was sexy. He stood back, “Look in the glove box.” He instructed.
You smiled, finally figuring out how to get him to do what you asked. You pulled on the small latch, seeing two tickets. You wiggled your eyebrows at him before picking them up and reading the band name. “Holy shit, Eddie!” You exclaimed.
He smiled up at you, “Worth it?” He asked.
“Yes, oh my god.” You beamed, looking at him. You paused for a moment, “What are you doing? Get in the car and drive!”
He laughed and closed your door, jogging over to his side and getting in, starting the car and getting back on the highway.
“You like it?” He asked hesitantly. Even though you were obviously excited, he wanted to confirm for sure.
“Eddie, yes.” You said like it was obvious.
“Good. I wasn’t sure if the whole thing would like.. be your vibe.”
“Hey, just because I spend the majority of my time with toddlers doesn’t mean I can’t let loose a little.” You chuckled.
He nodded before feeling you lean over and kiss his cheek as he kept his eyes on the road, pulling a smile out of him.
Tumblr media
The rest of the drive was spent singing the band’s songs, laughing, and eating the snacks you’d bought.
Eventually, Eddie parked the van in a parking garage and looked at his watch, “We’ve still got a little time before the concert starts.”
“Want to go wait in line or walk around for a little while?” You asked, trying to think of something to do. You didn’t know the area, so it was really up to him.
He unbuckled his seat belt, and you expected him to get out, but instead, he stumbled into the back of his van, sitting down and turning to face you, “We could just hang out in here, ya know?” He suggested, patting the spot beside him.
You giggled and followed him to the back of the van. Instead of sitting next to him, you straddled his lap, resting your arms on his shoulders, “I think I like that idea.”
His hands moved to hold you by your waist, leaning against the back doors of the van, “I think I do too.”
You tucked his hair behind his ear so you could see his face, and you smiled sweetly, “You’re cute.”
He chuckled and kissed your forehead gently, “You’re cute.” He repeated.
You looked up at him, staring into the dark brown eyes that you’d noticed and admired from the moment you met him. “You gonna kiss me or what, Munson?”
“Shit, I don’t need to be asked twice.” He smirked, connecting your lips and closing his eyes.
Your eyes fluttered closed, leaning into it. He kissed you slowly at first, taking his time, exploring the feeling as your lips collided and finding a good rhythm.
As the minutes ticked by, the kiss became heated. He moved his hands from your hips to the bare skin of your back underneath your shirt, holding you flush to his torso. Your hands were tangled in his hair, occasionally gripping it and pulling him closer to you, earning soft moans every time. His tongue had slipped past your lips long ago, and you had gladly accepted it, rolling your own against his.
One of his hands slowly moved from your back and up your side, sliding to your front and kneading one of your breasts over your bra, which caused you to moan, breathy and hot, into his mouth. He slowly rocked his hips up to meet yours, tentatively at first, but once you ground back down against him, his movements became more confident and consistent.
Your hands moved from his hair to his jacket, tugging at it to pull it off. He removed his hands, much to your dismay, but quickly replaced them once his outer layer had been shed and discarded somewhere in the van. He removed his lips from yours, but quickly moved them down your jaw and to the column of your neck. You leaned your head to the side so he could do whatever he pleased. His left hand moved from the front of your bra to the back strap, easily unhooking it in one swift movement, which left you a little impressed.
He kissed up to your ear, “May I, beautiful?” He asked, sliding the strap of it down your shoulder slowly, waiting for permission.
“How much time do we have left?” You asked, out of breath.
He looked down at his watch, “We can miss the opening act.”
“Sounds good to me.” You agree, slipping off your shirt, along with your bra, and tossing the clothing items towards the front of the van.
Eddie looked down at you, admiring just how gorgeous you looked. “God damn.” He muttered before snapping himself out of the trance. He quickly went back to kissing your neck, shifting you off of his lap to lay down in the back of the van.
It was your turn to let your hands wander as his were busy holding himself up and softly brushing a thumb over your nipple. You let your hands move under his shirt, running up and down his warm chest as his hips slotted between yours.
His lips moved to your collarbone and you got impatient, tugging his shirt up. He sat up and quickly removed it, throwing it with such force that you laughed. He joined in, smiling down at you before coming back to kiss you harshly, continuing to let his hands explore every inch of your body. Your own we’re on his back, rubbing gently and pulling him close, then moving to scratching down the length of it as you craved more. He moaned into your mouth, moving his hands to the waistband of your jeans.
“Eddie…” You sighed as his mouth kissed down your jaw, then your neck, your collarbone, your chest, until his tongue connected with nipple, gently taking it into his mouth, his fingers on the hand that wasn’t holding his weight slowly dipping below your waist band, running along the length of it, teasing. He closed his eyes as your hands tangled into his dark hair again, a leg wrapping wound his waist to being him closer, needing more friction.
He removed his mouth and you whined at the loss. “You want more?” He asked, looking up at you. You nodded quickly, which only caused him to smile sweetly, “I need to hear you say it, angel.”
You gripped his hair and yanking him up to face you, a sudden wave on confidence taking over. “Touch me, Eddie.” You instructed firmly, your face serious.
He could’ve cum in his jeans right then. Just when he thought he was in control, you not only turned the table, but flipped it upside down. “Christ.. Y-yeah.. okay.” He muttered, all cockiness washed away in an instant. He unbuttoned your jeans and leaned down to kiss you again, trying to regain any ounce of sanity he’d lost in under five seconds.
You felt him tug at your jeans and you kicked off your shoes before lifting your hips to help him shimmy the denim off your legs. You were glad you’d worn cute underwear tonight. His lips still slotted against yours, his hand moved to touch you over your underwear.
He could feel just how wet you were, which brought a wave of confidence back into him and he smirked against your lips. He kissed the side of your mouth and made his way down your body, leaving a trail of small marks that would disappear within the hour. He kissed your thighs, moving down between your legs as you opened them for him. He sucked and nipped your inner thigh, getting dangerously close, yet never close enough. He threw one of your legs over his shoulder, looking up at you. “Tell me what you want.” He whispered, leaving a small hickey on your soft skin.
“You, Eddie.” You moaned quietly. That was all he needed to grab your underwear; they were made of a black, delicate lace, but after a moment, Eddie ripped the material in half. You gasped, looking down at him.
He shrugged, “I’ll buy you new ones.” He said simply before tossing the shredded fabric over your shoulder and throwing your other leg over his shoulder. He gripped your thighs, his cold rings contrasting with the heat of his hands on your skin, and tugged you closer. He pressed a delicate kiss against your skin before sliding his tongue up your slit and immediately your hands tangled into his hair.
He moaned against your cunt, the vibrations causing your thighs to clench slightly around his head. His tongue explored every inch of you, causing you to slowly unravel. You bit your lip as he focused on your clit, holding back any noises that threatened to slip past. You eventually felt his fingers slip into you with ease, two of his rings having been removed without you noticing. He looked up, noticing that you were biting your lip.
“Let me hear you, love. Don’t hold back.” He instructed before returning to his work.
You tossed your head back and let out a guttural moan as his fingers reached a spot within you that you’d only been able to reach a few times.
“There she is. Music to my ears.” He mumbled against you, focusing on rubbing that spot and licking circles around your clit.
You knew you wouldn’t last long. It had been a while, for one, and it didn’t help that Eddie really knew what he was doing. Your hands tugged at his hair, holding him where he was.
“God.. Eddie. Fuck, just like that.” You stumbled out, grinding your hips up into his face.
He groaned against you, which brought you closer to your release. “Don’t stop.. please.. Eddie..” you whined as your grip tightened on his scalp.
You quickly felt yourself reach a peak, and then, with a breathy moan, you were cumming with his fingers and tongue helping you ride you through it, your thighs shaking and shut tight, trapping his face where it was.
Once he was sure you were satisfied, he removed his fingers and licked them clean, making eye contact with you the entire time. He wiped his own chin with his thumb, cleaning it off too before moving up and kissing you chastely. You smiled into it, breathless and recovering.
“Feel good, angel?” He asked, his face still close to yours.
You nodded, chuckling, “Yeah.” You replied, mind still a little hazy.
He looked down at his watch. “If we leave now, we should make it just in time. You sure you’ll be able to walk?” He teased.
You smacked his chest with what little strength you had, still feeling a bit limp. He laughed and reached up, stretching to grab your bra and shirt from the front of the van.
You two smiled like idiots as you got dressed, and once you were ready, sans underwear now, you pulled him by his collar in for another kiss.
Tumblr media
The two of you walked got out of the van, giggling and appreciating the chill of the summer night that cooled your sweaty bodies off.
Eddie’s hair was a mess, and when you pointed it out, he laughed and threw it up in a ponytail on the crown of his head.
“You look like a cheerleader.” You giggled.
“And you look like your legs are made of jello. Like a baby deer.”
“And who’s fault is that?”
“Definitely yours. Not my fault I’m good at what I do.” He shrugged. You chuckled and he held an arm out for you, which you gladly took to support yourself as the two if you walked into the venue.
The concert was loud and packed, but once you and Eddie made your way to the pit, you couldn’t care less. The two of you sang along to the songs, dancing and laughing like nobody else existed.
And to the both of you, nobody really did.

Getting ready for a date when you don’t know where you’re going is proving difficult.
He said wear something nice and comfortable. What the hell does that even entail? You groaned as you searched through your closet, having no idea what to wear. Jeans and a nice top was out- jeans could be too casual. A dress? Eh, maybe? We’ll keep that option open. What about a skirt? Dammit that one doesn’t fit anymore and the top that matches the other one is in the wash. Why did Eddie have to be so cryptic about this?
You sighed and decided to leave it until after you showered, hoping that the steam and soap would clear your mind a little. You got in, got squeaky clean, and once you were out, wrapped your hair in a towel and dried off. You sighed and made your way back to the closet of doom.
You ended up picking out a little blue dress with little white embroidered flowers on it. It had always looked good on you, and it was casual enough for somewhere chill, but nice enough for a fancy restaurant. You threw it on, then dried your hair, styling it and leaving it down. You paired your outfit with gold jewelry and white shoes that we’re comfortable enough to walk in. You kept your makeup light, but added a little bit of sparkly eyeshadow to make it look a little more dressed up. You did an extra spray or two of your favorite perfume, then did a once over in the mirror. This would do.
By the time you were ready, it was nearing 7:50, so you knew Eddie would be there soon. You fussed around with your hair and did one more swipe of lip gloss just in time to hear your doorbell ring. You smiled and grabbed your purse, walking to the front door. Nervous energy radiated from you, but you knew you had nothing to be nervous about. It’s just Eddie. He likes you. You’ve already impressed him.
You answered the door. Seeing Eddie in nicer clothes was weird, but not in a bad way. He wore an all black outfit: a dress shirt, slacks that fit him just right, and a suit jacket over it, no tie. The top two buttons of his shirt were undone, which made the look all the more casual and, Jesus Christ, attractive. His hands were adorned with his normal rings, the jewelry almost acting as a comfort blanket for him. He was holding a bouquet of flowers and smiling warmly at you.
“Are those for me?” You asked, feeling dumb for asking such an obvious question.
He chuckled, “No, they’re for Pencil.”
You laughed and placed your hand on your face, taking a quick second to breathe and compose yourself, feeling like an idiot already. You looked back up and smiled, “Thank you, they’re beautiful.”
He handed them over and you invited him inside so you could put them in a vase before you left. You opened a cabinet and stood on your tippy toes to try to reach the vase you needed, but Eddie reached up and grabbed it for you. He filled it with water and you set the flowers inside.
“So, you gonna tell me where we’re headed yet?” You asked.
“Well, I got us a table at Enzo’s, but that’s just the first half. I’m keeping the second half a secret.” He smiled, pulling the paper off of the flowers and fluffing them up for you.
You smiled, “How did you manage to get a table there? I hear they stay booked.”
“Well, I did have like, several months notice to plan this.” He pointed out.
“So you were serious about already having this in mind the whole time?” You asked, a little shocked.
He nodded like it was the most simple thing in the world. Like it wasn’t actually a big deal. Eddie reached down and grabbed your hand, guiding you out of your house and to his van, opening the passenger door for you. You hopped in and fiddled with your fingers until he got in on his side, starting the car and driving you to the nicest place in town. He held your hand the whole way, and you slowly felt yourself relax.
Tumblr media
Once you arrived, he shut off the car and looked to you, “We’re on our first date.” He smiled, squeezing your hand gently.
You smiled at him, “I know. Took you long enough to ask me out.” You teased.
He scoffed, “You said no!”
“That’s not fair.” You laughed, “And I didn’t say no. I said later. I like having a job so I can like, afford to live and stuff.”
“Yeah, but that’s no fun.” He smiled, leaning over and giving you a sweet kiss on your forehead. “Come on pretty girl, let’s go in.”
Eddie opened the car door for you and held your hand as the two of you walked into the restaurant. He spoke to the hostess, and she seated the two of you quickly.
He ordered a bottle of wine for the table and the two of you looked over the menus, chatting and giggling sweetly.
“I love that we don’t have to ask the dumb first date questions. We already know each other.” You whispered.
“Really? I was just about to ask you what your favorite color was.” He joked.
“You already know it.”
“Yeah, it’s green.” He stated simply.
“And it’s obvious what yours is.” You said, looking him up and down, his all black outfit being a glaring indicator.
He nodded, “No shame in my game.”
A waiter came over and took your orders, then wandered back off to go get them ready. You smiled and looked back to your date, “Do you and Sage have any plans for your summer vacation?” You asked.
“Not at the moment. She wants to go to the beach, but I don’t know if I’ll have enough time off of work. We’ll see though.”
You nodded, “I’ve got a few professional development sessions and staff meetings, but other than that, my plans include cuddling Pencil, seeing Robin, and this.” You smiled.
“Well, we’ll make more date plans, I can promise you that.”
“Good.”
The two of you talked about life stuff- Eddie let you know that the kids were coming back from college soon, and that Steve was planning on another get together. Nancy just had her baby- a little boy named Charlie- so it would be a chill night of movies and popcorn. He’d probably bring Sage along; the older kids loved her. Max specifically liked to braid her hair while Will would work on painting her nails to the best of his ability (Sage always insisted that Will do it, for a reason unknown to everyone but her). He said you were invited, of course, “you’re always invited”. You told him you were looking forward to it.
The food was brought to the table, and the two of you continued talking while eating. Then, once you were done with your meal, Eddie insisted on paying the bill, even though you resisted, offering to pay your half. He swatted at the hand holding your money lightly, and you huffed and relented.
He held your hand as he walked you back out to his car, and once you were inside, you looked to Eddie, “So, you said there was a second half to this date?” You asked curiously. It had already been pretty fun, but you wanted to know what would happen next.
Eddie shook his head, “Can’t tell ya, sweetheart. Not until we get there.” He smiled, reversing his van and driving out of the parking lot.
“Now who’s being infuriating?” You laughed, bringing back his comment from earlier that day. He chuckled and turned on some music he knew you liked before he placed his hand on your thigh, using his thumb to rub small, comforting circles. You placed your hand on top of his, “Pleeeaaaase can you tell me where we’re going?” You whined. The curiosity was killing you.
“Nope.” He said simply, popping the ‘p’ for emphasis.
You sighed and decided to change the subject, “Did you have any time to process today?” You asked, “Sage graduated from kindergarten.” You smiled fondly.
Eddie nodded, stopping at a stop light, “Yeah. She’s growing up. I may or may not have shed a few tears earlier.” He smiled.
You reached over and rubbed his back as he leaned against the steering wheel, “She’s a good kid, Eddie. You have nothing to be worried about with her.”
“I know. I just wish she could stay this little forever.”
“I don’t.” You chuckled, “I am very glad she passed kindergarten. Maybe I’ll say that when she’s in first grade.”
Eddie laughed and sat up as the light turned green, your hand retreating to where his was on your lap again. “Very true. I need her to grow up for like, two more months, and then stop altogether.”
You nodded and noticed that he pulled into your neighborhood. “Is the second part of this date at my house?” You asked, confused, “I’m not that easy.” You teased.
He chuckled and shook his head, “No, you just need to go change.” He said, parking in your driveway.
“Into what? I thought this was fine?”
“You look gorgeous, babe. But you need pajamas.” He smiled simply.
“I don’t know what you’re planning, but I am always down for wearing comfy pj’s. I’ll be right back.” You smiled, hopping out of his car and walking into your house.
You ran to your closet and changed into your cutest matching set of pj’s- shorts and a short sleeve button down shirt that were black with white piping around the seams. You grabbed a comfy sweater to throw over it, as it had gotten a bit chilly out. You threw on shoes that you could easily take off, then grabbed your bag and walked back out, hopping back into the van. You saw that, while you were in the house, Eddie had changed into his own pajamas in the van, wearing red and black checkered pants and a comfy Dio tee shirt.
“How about now? Any clues?” You asked, buckling your seat belt.
“Still can’t tell ya, sweetheart. You’ll love it though, trust me.”
He started driving through town and started off into the outskirts of town. After about twenty minutes, he turned onto a small dirt road and started driving into the woods. You looked out your window, having no clue where you were.
“You bringing me out here to kill me? Because, if you are, I appreciate that you at least let me wear something comfortable.” You joked.
Eddie laughed, taking a turn and backing the van up to something. It was dark by now, so you had no idea what was happening.
“Stay here, and close your eyes.” Eddie smiled. “No peeking.” He said seriously, pointing a finger at you.
You giggled and put your hands over your eyes, following his instructions. You heard Eddie get out of the car, then open the doors to the back of the van. He messed around with something for a while, then walked around to your side of the van and opened your door.
“Keep ‘em closed, but come here.” He said, taking your hands and guiding you out of the van. He led you carefully around the van and squeezed your hands. “Okay, you can open your eyes now.”
You did, and saw that Eddie had set up a movie screen in the middle of the woods. He had a projector on the top of his van, and the back was packed with blankets and pillows and snacks that you somehow hadn’t noticed earlier. There were fairy lights running around the movie screen and through the van, lighting up the area. It was probably the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you.
“Eddie..” you whispered, not sure what to say.
He smiled, looking around, “Ya like it?”
“I love it.” You mused, grabbing his hand and looking into his eyes.
He grinned at you, leading you to the back of the van. You kicked off your shoes before climbing in and settling into the blankets. “What do you want to watch? I picked a couple different movies. I wasn’t sure what you’d want to see.” He asked, handing them to you.
You picked a random one, not having seen it yet. The cover art looked cheesy and very bad, so you were hoping the movie would be the same. Something you could laugh at or something you could ignore. He nodded and climbed up on the van, sticking the CD into the projector before hopping back down. He copied your movements: kicked off his shoes and climbed in, getting comfy. He pulled you close to him and kissed the top of your head. You snuggled into him, grabbing his hand and holding it in your own.
“You’re perfect.” You whispered.
He hummed, squeezing your hand gently, “Says you.”
Tumblr media
The two of you watched the previews, and once the movie started, you whispered little points about what was happening to each other. Then, the movie slowly became horrible and you two were laughing hysterically at the awful acting and low quality special effects.
Eddie loved listening to your laugh. He wanted to make you laugh forever.
“Dude, this movie sucks.” He giggled.
“Right?” You asked, moving to lay back in the van, resting your hands on your sore stomach.
“Then why did you pick it?!” He asked, looking down at you, amused and utterly confused.
“You were the one who rented it!”
“I just grabbed a bunch of random movies!” He laughed.
“And I picked the shittiest looking one in the pile. Thought it would be funny.” You giggled.
He smiled and looked down at you fondly, “You are so strange.”
You returned his gaze, “Yeah, well, so are you.”
He leaned down and kissed you gently. It was sweet, but you’d been waiting too long for this for him to just kiss you once. You tangled your hands into his hair, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss. He followed suit, moving to climb over you to get a better angle. You hummed against his lips, prompting him to glide his tongue across your bottom lip. You immediately granted him access, and he slid his tongue into your mouth, his hand moving to hold your waist as the two of you made out.
One of your hands moved from his hair to his neck, keeping him close, and the other slid down his shoulder and arm until it rested on his forearm that he was using to hold himself up. He made no attempt at bringing things further; he wanted to make sure that the two of you went at your pace. He was content with anything you’d give him.
You broke your kiss, looking up at him and catching your breath. “Eds…” you whispered. He leaned down and started peppering your face with kisses.
“Yeah?” He asked in between small pecks, “What’s up, angel?”
You giggled and wrapped your arms around his torso, bringing him down to hug you. He chuckled, his voice muffled by the blankets, putting his weight on you. It felt comforting; even if it made you a little out of breath, you liked just having him there.
You heard some alien monster thing being killed on screen, and it made the most horrible wet, screeching sound that sounded like it was made by some poor intern. You and Eddie both took a second to look back at the screen, and then looked at each other and laughed quietly.
“Am I too heavy?” He asked, using his knee to prop himself up again to give you a little break.
“No, not at all.” You smiled, “I like it. I feel smooshed.” You pulled him back down on top of you. “Come ‘ere.”
He obliged, resting his weight on you once again. You felt secure, safe. You hadn’t felt this in a relationship since, gosh, probably high school, and even then, this felt.. better. You and your ex had dated right when you started college, so as an adult, you hadn’t really experienced what it was like to just let your guard down. Eddie was a great guy, and you could tell it wasn’t a mask for anything. He was just genuinely this wonderful.
You smiled and rubbed his back, the two of you returning your attention to the horrible movie. You occasionally felt him chuckle on top of you, which always made you smile. You looked down at his arms, and raised an eyebrow, noticing a tattoo on his forearm. He’d never really worn short sleeves around you- always having a jacket on, so this was the first time you’d seen it. You traced it with your fingers; it was a demonic looking hand, playing with some monster marionette. “When did you get this?” You asked quietly.
“Hm?” He asked, then noticed where you were looking, “Oh, yeah. In high school. Most of my tattoos are from back then. I’ve only really gotten two more since I graduated.” He informed you.
You nodded. You couldn’t wait to see all of his tattoos, but tonight probably wasn’t the night for that, considering this was your first date and all.
The credits eventually began to roll and you smiled up at Eddie, “This was perfect.” You smiled.
He shifted and moved to tower over you again so he could look into your eyes, “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” You whispered.
He moved some of your hair out of your face, “You want me to take you home?”
You frowned, “But this is so fun.”
“I know, but I’m sure it’s getting late.” He said, moving to check his watch. A look of panic filled his eyes, “Shit, I told Wayne I’d be back to pick up Sage like, thirty minutes ago.”
You felt him get up and you immediately missed his presence. You sat up begrudgingly and ran a hand though your hair, watching him take down the projector and the makeshift screen that turned out to be a bedsheet, along with the lights. He started piling everything back into the van as you got out, leaning against it and watching him. Once he’d gotten everything in, he smiled at you. He grabbed your hand gently and kissed it, “Sorry we’re having to cut this short.” He whispered.
You shook your head, “No, don’t worry about it. Sage comes first.” You told him, assuring him that you understood. He released your hand and moved his to the back of your neck, pulling you in for another sweet kiss.
You smiled against his lips, but it was over too soon. The two of you piled into the van and he pulled away from your new favorite place. You opened his glovebox and shuffled through his cassettes, picking out something chill to listen to on your drive back.
“Hey,” he asked hesitantly, his hand on your thigh again, “do you mind if I stop and grab Sage before I drop you off? By the time we get there, it’ll be like, an hour after I said I’d be there. I don’t want to keep Wayne waiting any longer than I have already.”
You looked to him, “I mean, that’s really up to you. She’s your kid. You know I love her, so I’m not going to like, freak out or anything. But do you want her to see me this early on?”
He thought for a moment, thinking the situation through. She already knew you, and he knew she loved you as much as you loved her. But he didn’t want Sage to ask any questions that might scare you off. “I’m good with it. Just like, don’t get all weird on me if she asks if you’re her new mommy or something.” He decided.
You laughed, “That wouldn’t scare me. You’d be surprised at how many kids call me their mom, on accident and on purpose.”
He smiled, loving how good you were with kids. He could actually see you being her mom one day. But he couldn’t let himself get too far ahead. If this were a first date with anyone else, he would have drawn a hard line about it, but you knew Sage. She knew you. And Eddie trusted you with her, hell, a bit more than he trusted himself. You’d gotten her through her very first year of school, and he’d watched how she’d grown both academically and emotionally.
“Okay.” He smiled, “She’ll probably be asleep when I get her, but she could wake up. Just so you know.” He informed you, squeezing your thigh gently.
Tumblr media
The two of you made it to Wayne’s trailer and he jumped out, going to it and knocking on the door lightly. You watched him from the van, not feeling it was appropriate to go in.
You watched him disappear into the trailer for a few minutes and he came out, carrying Sage, asleep on his shoulder. He talked to Wayne for a moment, and you watched Wayne tussle Eddie’s hair before they exchanged a couple more words before Eddie headed back to the van.
He opened the back door and started buckling Sage into her car seat. You looked back, and watched as she whined and scrunched her eyes shut, as the light inside the van was hurting her sleepy eyes. Once Eddie had her buckled in, he kissed the top of her head and shut the door as quietly as possible and she settled back down, falling asleep again.
Eddie got back in the drivers seat and looked back at her, then looked at you. You smiled reassuringly, and he reached over and squeezed your hand. He cranked the van and started driving you back to your house, holding your hand the entire way.
By the time he’d parked, Sage was still sound asleep, leaning her head against the side of her car seat and drooling a bit. You giggled at the sight, then the two of you got out of the van, Eddie leaving his window down so he could hear Sage if she needed something. He walked you to your door.
“I had a wonderful time, Eddie.” You smiled, leaning against your doorframe.
“Yeah?” He asked, playing with your fingers as you held hands.
“Of course. It was perfect. Probably the best date I’ve ever been on.”
He couldn’t fight the smile that crept it’s way onto his lips. He’d wanted to act all cool and confident, but he couldn’t hide that he was just as big of a dork as you were. “So, will there be a second one?”
You hummed and wrapped your arms around his shoulders, pulling him close, “I don’t know.” You teased, “It’ll be hard to top this one.”
“Well, a man’s gotta try.” He chuckled, wrapping his hands around your waist. “Let me take you out again, gorgeous.”
You leaned up and kissed him chastely. “Of course.” You whispered.
He kissed you one last time before squeezing you in a hug that was so tight it squeezed a laugh out of you, then pulled back and headed towards his van. “Call me!” He yelled as he hopped into the driver’s side.
You laughed and waved as you walked into your house.
Yeah, there was definitely going to be a second date.

After the party, you been trying to schedule time for yourself to relax or take a break. You originally didn’t think it would help with your anxiety because you thought that while you were ‘relaxing’, you’d be worried about work, but once you allowed yourself to shut your brain off, the breaks really helped your anxiety.
Throughout April, you helped your kids do everything they’d needed, and by May, you’d gotten news that every single one was going to pass your grade. You called Eddie that night, excitedly explaining that all your kids, including Sage, did an excellent job. You finished out the semester, relieved and proud of their accomplishments.
On the last day of school, Hawkins Elementary held a kindergarten graduation. All the parents and families were invited, and the kids had their very own tiny caps and gowns in emerald green and gold. You’d printed out certificates, writing small stories and well wishes on the back of each one so when they grew older, they could look back and read about what they were like at such a young age.
The morning of their graduation, you’d dressed in a kind of casual black dress and platform sandals. You wore rainbow clay earrings for a pop of color, and had your hair tied up in a clip. Today was supposed to be a little more dressy, as there would be lots of photos and parents, so you’d wanted to make a good, lasting impression.
You got to school early that morning, tidying up your classroom and finishing up the portfolios of all of your students work that they’d completed during the year. You’d kept all the projects, knowing that some parents would like to keep these things forever. You’d packed the portfolios into a rolling bin, and headed down to the cafeteria, ready to help set up for the day.
You, along with the other kindergarten teachers, the principal, and a janitor, cleaned up the cafeteria, set out snacks and coffee, and made sure the sound system was working. The principal had brought a Polaroid camera to take photos of the kindergarten class, so you helped him set it up and test it out. You’d made a silly face as he snapped a photo, and once it developed, the two of you laughed and were ready for everyone to come in.
You opened the doors to the cafeteria, propping them open, then opened the access doors near by so the parents could walk in. There were already a few waiting, so you welcomed them as they walked in. You then guided the kindergarteners to the ‘backstage’ area, or really, just behind a small space behind the curtains on the small stage, and helped them zip their gowns over their clothes and place the caps on their heads. Once they were ready, you instructed them to find their name on the tape on the risers and sit in their spots, to which they complied.
It felt bittersweet, helping all the kids you’d helped mould over the past year for the last time. You’d still see them, of course, in the hallways and in town, but this was your last time being their teacher.
Around 9am, all the kindergarteners were in place and the parents had settled into the cafeteria tables, so you, along with Mrs. Robinson, gathered your little diplomas and stood near the middle of the stage as the principal began his speech, kicking off graduation.
He discussed how much the kids had grown and learned during the year, and how proud he was of their hard work, as well as yours. He continued on and talked about how he looked forward to working with the kids next year, and how he hoped he’d never see them in his office, which got a laugh from the parents.
He then began to read off the names in alphabetical order, and each child walked across the stage, received a little diploma from you or Mrs. Robinson, and took a photo with their respective teacher. After the photo, you hugged every one of your students, and instructed them to go back to their seat on the riser.
When Sage’s name was called, you heard Eddie whoop loudly, and Sage ran to you, hugging you so tight it took your breath away. You laughed and hugged her back before taking your photo and sending her back to her seat.
Once all the names had been called, the kids all stood and took a class photo, then moved their tassels from one side to the other. The parents and staff clapped and cheered, then the students were dismissed to their parents. The principal made a small announcement to see the teachers for their portfolios and to distribute their individual photos.
You’d set everything up on a table, and began placing their photos on top of their portfolios. You greeted each parent, discussing how well each of their respective children did and that you’d hoped that you’d see them in the fall.
Eddie made his way over to your table, holding Sage in one of his arms and her little cap in the other. Her curly hair was a bit of a mess from the cap, and he set it on the table to mess over her hair to fix it. You smiled and greeted him, like you would any other parent, still trying to seem casual in public for now. He went along with it, knowing the drill by now.
Sage pouted, “I don’t wanna go to first grade.”
Eddie laughed, “Well, kiddo, I really want you to.” Only the two of you knew what that really meant. “You wanna grow up big and smart like your teacher?” He asked
Sage sighed and buried her head in Eddie’s neck, mumbling a small, “Yeah.” You and Eddie chuckled at that.
“Here’s her portfolio. It has all of the work she’s done this year. You can keep it or throw it away- but it might be nice to have when she’s older.”
Eddie nodded and took it from you gladly, along with the photo of you and Sage. He smiled fondly at the picture. Sage had a huge smile across her face, and you looked gorgeous. He wanted to frame it and keep it forever.
“Thanks.” He smiled. “Can I call you if I have any questions about registration for next semester?” He asked. The two of you spoke in code at this point.
“Of course.” You smiled.
He hugged Sage close and whispered at her to say goodbye to you, to which she looked up sadly and gave the tiniest, saddest wave in the world. You placed your hand over your heart, thinking the scene was so sad and cute, then said goodbye to Eddie. He turned and walked out of the cafeteria, Sage still pouting into his shoulder as he reassured her that she would see you soon.
You turned back and got the rest of the parents and kids sent off on their way, then cleaned up with the staff. You walked back to your classroom, feeling the emptiness of the hallways, and sighed once you entered. You erased the board completely, gathered the rest of your things, then turned out the lights and locked the door on the way out.
Tumblr media
Once you arrived home, you walked in the door and heard the phone ringing. You quickly rushed over, picking it up.
“Hello?”
“Can I come over?” Eddie asked, sounding like a little kid on Christmas morning.
You laughed, “Right now? Aren’t you spending the day with Sage?”
“She’s with Wayne. He got the day off work to spend it with her. So, can I?”
“Are you sure? You don’t need some alone time to brood? Your kid just graduated kindergarten.” You teased.
He groaned, “You’re absolutely going to be the death of me. Please.”
You giggled. “Alright, Eddie. You can come ove-“
He hung up the phone as soon as he’d received your confirmation, and you held the receiver to your ear, listening to the dial tone for a minute before cackling. You knew what was about to happen. You couldn’t help but be excited, but geez, this guy was chomping at the bit. His excitement made you giddy too, though.
About ten minutes passed, and you were sitting on your couch, feeling a bit anxious, but not in a bad way. You tapped your foot on the floor, petting Pencil for reassurance. You heard his van screech into your driveway, and in under a minute he was knocking fervently on your front door.
You laughed and yelled, “It’s open!” Within seconds, he was walking into your house. He was beaming, and he kicked his shoes off quickly before practically jogging to where you were on the couch. Pencil scurried off, and Eddie plopped down next to you, facing your direction.
“Will you go out with me?” He asked quickly, smiling and out of breath, getting right to the point.
You laughed and pretended to contemplate it, “Hmm… I don’t know… I’m not so sure. I might have met this guy who wants to take me off into the sunset or something?” You joked.
He groaned and grabbed your shoulders, smiling like a mad man, “You are infuriating!” He laughed, shaking you lightly.
You laughed too, loudly and genuinely. After a moment, you looked into Eddie’s beautiful, brown eyes and smiled, “Yes, Eddie. I will totally go out with you.”
He melted in front of you and leaned forward, kissing you like a man starved. You couldn’t help but giggle against his lips as you attempted to kiss him back, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. The two of you shared a giddy kiss, not being able to hold yourselves together. After a while, the two of you separated and he sat back a little, calming down from all the excitement. “God, this school year was way too long.”
“I agree. Let’s make sure Sage is never in my class again.”
Eddie nodded, chuckling and wincing, holding his ribs, as they were sore from laughing too much.
You smiled and leaned onto his shoulder, “So, where are you taking me, Romeo?”
He laid his head on top of yours. “Anywhere. Everywhere.”
You smiled as he grabbed your hand and squeezed it gently. You noticed how small yours felt in comparison. “I mean for our first date.”
“You’ll see. Does tonight sound okay?” He asked.
“Wow, jumping right on into it, aren’t we?” You teased.
“We’ve wasted enough time being all secretive. I’m ready to show you off.” He smiled.
“What if the date doesn’t go well?” You asked, squeezing his hand.
“Well, we’ve got about a million more to go on, so the first one doesn’t have to be perfect.” He explained, squeezing yours back. “But it will be. Trust me.”
You nodded and hummed, enjoying his company for a while before asking, “What do I wear?”
“Something pretty nice, but comfortable.”
You nodded, not really knowing what to expect from him. The two of you stayed cuddled up on the couch for about half an hour before he sighed and made a move to get up. You released him, though you weren’t happy about it.
“Sorry, beautiful, but I’ve got to go. I have a hot date tonight.” He smiled, standing up.
“Oh yeah, with who?” You smirked.
He bent down and kissed you chastely, “Just the most amazing girl I’ve ever met. It’s tonight at 8.”
You couldn’t fight the blush that rose in your cheeks and you shoved him away gently, “You’re such a sap.”
“Yeah. You like me, though, so what does that make you?”
“Touché.” You glared.
He threw you a wink before slipping his shoes back on and leaving your house.
Finally. It was all starting to click into place.

Once school was back in full swing, you were busy, to put it lightly. Spring semester was always filled with setting up IEP and 504 recommendations for your students to be analyzed for in the first grade, as well as trying to have every student achieve mastery of all of the state standards. You had to make sure all of your students could write their name without mistakes, tie their shoes, know numbers one through fifty and the alphabet, knew a lot of sight words, and most, if not all, should be able to read basic books.
You were working hard to try and make sure that all of your students achieved. But that didn’t come without sacrifice. You and Eddie still called, but the calls were usually less than twenty minutes, as you needed to grade assignments and lesson plan for the days ahead. You still saw him at pickup line, but instead of those days where you were stressed being few and far between, they were growing more frequent.
You could tell he was getting worried about you. He’d even said it on your last phone call.
“Are you doing okay? You seem really stressed lately.” He cautioned, sounding genuinely concerned.
“Oh, I’m fine. The spring semester is always like this. I’m just not used to having such a large class size is all. They said that next year won’t be so bad. Apparently everyone decided to have babies at the same time that you did.” You joked, trying to downplay your anxiety.
“Is there anything I can do to help you out?”
“I’m not sure… just- being able to talk sometimes is nice. Allows me decompress a little. But if I think of anything else, you’ll be the first to know.”
“Okay..” He said warily, still not quite sure about where your head was really at.
You didn’t want to burden him with anything. You’d always had pretty bad anxiety, but you had learned to manage it pretty well on your own over the years. However, when life got stressful, it was more difficult to deal with, especially due to the fact that you didn’t have much time for yourself.
He’d invited you out to a little get together with his friends the other night. You said you weren’t sure, mainly because you felt like you had a pile of work that needed to get done and taking one night off might put you back. But he mentioned that you didn’t have to stay if you didn’t want to. He just wanted you to meet his friends- it was a casual hang out, nothing serious. You hesitantly agreed, thinking that maybe this might help you chill out a little bit.
It was tonight. Eddie said he’d drive you, which you appreciated, as despite you living in Hawkins since the summer, you still didn’t know your way around town outside of the main roads. You were standing in your closet, trying to decide what to wear.
Casual. Cute. Nothing too sexy or serious. Just- regular clothes. You should have something like that, right? You dug through your closet. It didn’t help that the majority of your wardrobe consisted of colorful dresses you wore to your kindergarten class. Honestly, dressing for five year olds was easier than dressing for adults, in your opinion. You decided on a pair of jeans and a light, comfortable sweater. It was nearing March, so it wasn’t snowing anymore, but it was still cold out. You put on your everyday makeup that you wore to school and tied back your hair, pulling out a few strands to frame your face. Earrings, bracelets, watch. Easy. Cute, comfortable, casual. You grabbed a pair of white sneakers and threw them on. Just as you were finishing tying your left shoelace, you heard a knock at the front door.
You answered the door, “Hey, Eds, come on in. I just have to grab my purse.” You said, letting him into the entryway.
“You look nice.” He smiled genuinely.
You were in a bit of a rush, the anxiety still having a hold on you, “Ah- thanks.” You said quickly, rushing to the living room to grab your bag. You walked back to Eddie, eyes looking a little worried, “Ready to go?” You asked, almost walking past him to head out the door.
He stopped you, placing both hands on your shoulders, “Hey.. Take a breath. Relax.” He said, taking a deep breath, eyeing you to follow suit. You did, relaxing your shoulders a bit. “This is supposed to be fun. You deserve a break. You’ve been wearing yourself out. One night off isn’t going to cause your kids to fail.” He reassured you.
You took another deep breath, “I know… I know. It’s just been a bit much is all. I want my students to succeed.”
“And they will.” He insisted. “But they can’t do that without your help. And how can you really help them if you’re so stressed all the time? You have to take care of yourself in order to take care of them.”
You sighed, “Yeah.. you’re right.” His words were reassuring enough for now.
“Okay. Let’s go have fun, yeah? And remember, if it’s too much, we can just leave. There’s no pressure for you to stay. I’ll drive you home and you can work or relax.” He said, squeezing your shoulders gently before letting go. You nodded, and he opened the front door for you, locking it behind you guys before walking you to his van.
Before you had the chance to open your own door, Eddie jogged over and opened it for you, taking a grandiose bow. You laughed, for what felt like the first time in at least a week. Ever the gentleman. He walked over to the drivers side after shutting your door, and the two of you pulled off to drive to Steve’s.

The moment you arrived at the cute little corner lot house, Eddie jumped out and opened the car door for you, taking your hand and helping you out of the car. He gave it a quick squeeze before letting it go.
You guys walked up to the door, and Eddie just waltzed right on through the door. You felt bad just walking into a strangers house, so you stood in the doorway for a moment. “Sup Harrington, you big lug.” Eddie laughed, wrapping an arm around Steve’s shoulder and bending him to ruffle his hair. Steve laughed and shoved him off, then noticed you in the doorway.
“Hey, come on in, don’t be shy.” He smiled warmly.
You stepped further into the entry way and shut the door behind you. Steve walked over to you and stuck his hand out, shaking yours politely, “Steve. Nice to meet you.” You told him your name and once you’d been introduced, Steve and Eddie walked you to the living room to meet the rest of the group. Everyone seemed warm and welcoming enough.
The younger bunch were back for spring break, so everyone had a lot to catch up on. You mainly listened to the conversation, just taking everything in. You sat at the end of the sofa, with Robin next to you and Eddie squatted on the arm rest. You’d been chatting with her, finding out the two of you had a lot in common.
“You want a drink?” Robin offered, getting up to go grab one for herself.
“Uh, sure. What do you have?” You asked.
She reached her hand out, you took it, and she helped you off of the couch, “We’ve got a lot, and I’m not even sure what all there is.” She chuckled as you followed her to the kitchen. She swung open the fridge like she lived there and reached in the back, grabbing a beer before leaning on the freezer and allowing you to scan the contents. You grabbed some premade cocktail in a can before shutting the door.
“So.. you and Eddie, huh?” She asked, wiggling her eyebrows at you.
You couldn’t fight the red tint that flooded your cheeks, “Ah- well.. not really?” You said, shrugging your shoulders.
Robin frowned and cracked open her beer, taking a swig, “What’s the holdup? He’s like, toootally into you. And if I could bet on it, I’d put down money and say that you’re into him.”
You sighed, “That’s already been established.”
She gave you a confused look, “So.. why aren’t you two a thing?”
“My job. Unfortunately, it’s like, illegal for me to date a parent. Plus, in this town, it’s not like we can be secretive about it- gossip runs rampant.”
“Ah- yeah, I guess that makes sense. Don’t worry., my lips are sealed”
“Thanks. But it still kinda sucks though.” You chuckled, bumping her shoulder
“I feel that. When I was in college, my girlfriend and I had to be like, mega-cautious around everyone. I know it’s not the same, but I know what it’s like to have to hide how ya feel.” She reassured.
“Thanks Robin.” You smiled, taking a sip of your drink.
She nodded and the two of you walked back to the couch, finding Eddie laid out where the two of you previously sat. Robin groaned and shoved him, trying to get him to move off of the couch. He rolled off, hitting the ground with a thud, and you and Robin quickly scrambled over him and into your seats, giggling. Eddie laughed and pointed an accusatory finger, “I knew I shouldn’t have introduced the two of you.”
You and Robin shared a knowing look and laughed, watching as he got up off of the ground and moved to sit on the armrest once again, leaning against the back of the couch and resting his arm on the cushion above your shoulder.
After a while of sitting and listening to his buddies laugh and tell old stories, with you chiming in at certain points, Eddie leaned down to whisper in your ear, “I’m gonna go out back for a smoke. Want to come with?” He asked.
You nodded and followed him through the house and onto the back patio. You sighed into the cold March air, seeing your own breath. He took a cigarette and a lighter out of his jacket pocket. He offered you one, to which you politely declined, before lighting it and taking a drag.
“You having a good time?” He asked, leaning over the patio’s railing and looking into the backyard.
You matched his position, “Yeah. Your friends are really nice.” You smiled.
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself. You deserve to.” He told you, leaning over and bumping your shoulder with his own.
You hummed and looked up, seeing the starry sky. It made you feel small, but not in a bad way.
“Just think, only two more months and you’re home free.” He mused.
You giggled, “You mean we’re home free.”
He smiled, “Well yeah, but I was mainly talking about you. You’ve been so stressed lately with all the hard work you’ve been doing.” He paused, looking over to you, “I’ve been worried about you. I mean, I haven’t known you that long, but I can tell that all of it has had an effect on you.”
You sighed, turning around to face the house. You placed your hands on your face and dragged them down, “I know.” You grumbled, your voice muffled by your hands. You let them fall and rested your elbows on the railing, leaning back. “I just feel like I haven’t had a moment to breathe since January. Spring semester is normally stressful, but it’s usually not this bad.”
Eddie nodded, taking another drag of his cigarette, letting you continue.
“I just- anxiety is a bitch, you know?”
Eddie laughed at that, coughing through it as the smoke spilled from his lungs. “Boy do I know it.” He said, once he’d gained his bearings. “But like I said, only two more months. You’re almost there. And really, I know I’ve already said this, but if you need any help with anything, you let me know, okay?”
You nodded and leaned your head on his shoulder, “Thank you, Eddie.” You whispered. He smiled and kissed the top of your head before laying his own on top of yours. The two of you stayed like that for a few minutes, enjoying each others silent company as Eddie finished his cigarette, making sure to blow the smoke away from you.
He snubbed out the end of his smoke in the little ashtray on the railing before looking down at you, “Ready to go back in?” He asked quietly.
“Do we have to? This is so nice.” You pleaded.
“You’re shivering. You’re going to freeze to death.”
“Ugh, fine. If we have to.” You groaned dramatically.
He laughed and wrapped his arms around you, rubbing your arms quickly to warm you up, “Come on, cutie.” He said, walking you back inside.
You laughed as you two walked back into the house, feeling yourself begin to defrost as you walked back to the living room together. You plopped back down next to Robin and she gave you a silent wink, to which you rolled your eyes and smiled.

Around ten, everyone was heading out, so you and Eddie followed suit. You said goodbye to everyone, you and Robin exchanging numbers, and Steve giving you a big bear hug. Eddie walked you out to his van, opening the door for you before climbing in himself. The two of you drove home, laughing and recalling funny things that people had said that night, listening to the radio on a low volume.
Once he pulled up to your house, he walked you to your door. “Hey, thank you for tonight. I had fun.” You smiled, leaning against your door frame.
“Me too. I’m glad you came along.” He had one hand in his jacket pocket as he used his thumb to fiddle with the rings on his other hand.
You looked up at him. He looked so handsome in the moonlight. You looked around for a moment, taking in that nobody was on the street and the neighbors’ lights were off.
“Are they planning anything like this again soon?” You asked.
“Not that I know of, but I’ll let you know when we do.”
You nodded, taking a step closer to him. “Really.. thank you.” You said sincerely as you wrapped your arms around him in a hug. He was a little surprised, but he hugged you back, wrapping one arm around your waist and using the other to rub your back.
To an outsider, the hug may have look like it lasted too long, but neither of you cared. You just enjoyed each others warmth and physical contact in that moment. You could have been there forever and neither of you would have noticed.
You pulled away slightly, looking up at him. He smiled softly down at you. You glanced around one last time before looking back up at him. You could have cut the tension with a knife.
After a moment, Eddie bent down and whispered in your ear, “You’re making it very hard not to kiss you right now.”
You squeezed him closer, taking a steady breath before whispering back, “I never said you couldn’t.”
He pulled back and looked around like you had already done, making sure nobody was around. Your porch light was off, so nobody could really see you guys anyways. He looked back at you for confirmation that this was okay. You nodded.
He didn’t waste another moment before leaning down and capturing your lips in his own, moving one hand to hold your cheek as he did so. His lips were warm and soft and he tasted faintly of cigarettes, but you didn’t mind. You felt like you were surrounded by him: his lips, his hair, his tall and lean figure. He smelled like smoke and some sort of warm and spicy cologne.
He kissed you gently, not looking for anything more than this. You melted into it, your arms wrapping around his shoulders lazily. Neither of you knew how long it lasted, it could have been a second or it could have been an eternity. But when he pulled back, the both of you feeling a little breathless, it felt too soon.
The two of you shared a look before smiling at each other. He leaned down and kissed your temple sweetly before he pulled away, your arms falling to your sides and feeling empty. “I’ll see you tomorrow at pickup?” He whispered.
You nodded dumbly, and watched him step off of your front porch. “Good night, beautiful.” He said with a wink, heading back to his car. You wanted to say good night as well, but you felt as though your voice would betray you in that moment, so you silently unlocked your door and walked inside your house, locking it behind you.
You leaned against your front door, taking a moment to let it all sink in.
Man, you felt like a teenager again.
