Fissure v.0.01 is Live!  Download from itch.io
I can feel in my heart that I will not make much within the next 5 days, so I’ve decided to just upload what I have at this point to the Dream Diary Jam.  It’s nothing too fancy, mostly still me attempting to wrangle RMVX Ace again, but it’s updated!

The game now informs you when you’ve gotten something (!!!)

agricultura update 09
a solarpunk farming sim
1) the shop screen is nearly complete! a few things like the buying and selling of produce haven’t been implemented yet, but this is a major milestone to reach!
2) you can also go to bed now and progress to the next day! these two mechanics being complete is a load off my shoulders. the game is slowly becoming playable

a solarpunk farming sim
01) holly arrives at Yatakang’s west station! also known as “the city of rivers”, Yatakang has a reputation for its unique public transportation -- people hail water taxis! west station in particular is a popular stop point for passengers to board and be ferried throughout the maze-like tributaries and waterways of this trendy, welcoming metropolis
02) AgSec is a company officially licensed by the government of Huanjing to be a supplier of seeds and receiver of produce for the nation’s farmers. the robot who works behind the register seems friendly, if a little goofy. could holly be interested in making friends with him?

maybe i could make a standalone tutorial of animated talk sprites if enough people asked for it, but the simple explanation is that i’m just using rpg maker 2003′s Show Picture spritesheet feature (which i explain in-depth here) !

details about this update below the cut:
01) the animation when entering holly’s house has been sped up, and the “exit” box looks nicer! also, you can look at different things in the house now, such as holly’s room
02) as holly learns to take better care of herself and find things that make her happy, her bedroom will slowly get more decoration
03) i made the choice to switch her talk sprite to something smaller and more easy to animate! the simpler sprite means i can give her more animated & visually interesting expressions (it’s also much less time consuming!). i hope you like it!

I simply LOVE the entire aesthetic and concept! I can't wait to play it, I hope you keep working at it! Are you planning on adding more characters and places to go? Also, it would be cool if you could add *permaculture* mechanics to fit the solarpunk theme, like growing certain plants together makes them easier to maintain/grow or have better quality... I'm not a game dev so I'm not sure how hard would it be, just throwing out an idea! Again, I love it, and good luck with the development!
thank you so much!! holly will have 4 friends she can make, and meeting them all is one requirement for the golden ending.
yes, there are three towns!: yatakang, (the trendy commercial city) neo peking (the capital, where you unlock things for your farm) and tiangong (the urban seaside city). there’s a secret fourth optional location, as well
plants contributing certain nutrients to the soil was a planned concept up until very recently. the way it would have worked was that certain plants have adjacency bonuses to other plants, improving their quality. it would have cost somewhere around triple the number of variables that the planting system uses on its own right now, so it unfortunately had to be scrapped :-(

My question to oh lord hoggy the great, what kind of plants are going to be available to farm, what meals can we cook, can we date Pico

is this who i think it is………
i listed every type of plant in the game in my previous update, but the only real important distinction between them is in what farm zone they were grown in and if they’re a fruit or a flower! all of these catagories have randomized modifiers that affect their price every 10 in-game days or so (tentatively, the mechanic hasn’t been added yet), so you could have a situation where sunflowers are suddenly in high demand, flowers are in high demand, and anything grown in the meadow farm is in high demand, leading to a sunflower being worth 6 times as much as normal
there is no dating mechanic either, but you are free to ship them to your hearts content if you like! i imagined holly would be straight, but that doesn’t come up in the game at all, so go ham

this might be an unhelpful answer to some people, but i only know what i know because of what i wanted to make! the first step is having an idea for a game or even a mechanic, and the second step is busting your ass learning exactly how to do it with the tools RPG Maker gives you
if anyone needs a place to start though, i recommend getting real familiar with how variables, switches, and conditional branches work. you can do like, a dillion things once you have that down 👍
