This was a huge pain in the butt to get done, that background fought me. I'm pleased with what I've done though. I'm wondering if star magic and dark magic are somewhat connected in some way and the path Callum seems to be taking (more forced to take given what happened in S5) gave me the idea to draw him falling from primal sky magic, the one thing he wanted to do because it felt right, into a mix of dark (and star magic if they are indeed connected), something he doesn't want to do but ultimately has to to save the people he cares about.

I'm still alive, just been hectic on my end but I'm slowly finishing my backlog of art off. My favourite meme ever that always sends me is the 'something is afoot' swimmer meme. I have no words to describe how much I love that meme. I came across it again and in my fit of giggles my brain decided to ask me, what if that meme but with Claudia and, instead of another swimmer's foot, it's her own leg? Genius.

Not me jumping onto the 'white-hair-streak Callum' bandwagon. Nuh-uh. No way. Anyway... This idea wouldn't leave me alone. I'd pictured Callum being forced to use dark magic and as the front lock of his hair turns white, he's fallen to his knees, distraught and horrified. --- He didn't want to do it. He's on his knees, the whatever it was to do the spell turning to ash in his hands as they fall to either side of him. He can't move. He's frozen. Staring at the floor as it hits what he had done. What he had been forced to do... "I would do anything for you..."

I spent two weeks on and off working on this and I'm forcing myself to post it now in order to stop me from tweaking things or else it'll never get finished. After seeing the S6 poster I had a thought and wondered if Rayla would say that she's cold again when they make camp and Callum offers to cuddle up for warmth. Bonus scarf sharing too! Stella meanwhile is curled up in her cuddlemama's cloak.

This was started before S5 dropped and I was hoping to get it done before the release date. But then we got it five days early and this fits so well with the aftermath of 5x08 I’m shook. I think Rayla would have tended to Callum’s wounds on the Sea Legs and cleaned him up a bit (I imagine there's a sunfire medic/naval surgeon onboard the ship but they're busy healing Soren at the moment).  I imagine they’re talking about what happened earlier and at Callum’s pained expression, which Rayla knows has nothing to do with his wounds, has her put down the cloth she was using and reach up to comfort him. He leans into her touch and covers her hand with his. I’m very weak for face touches. Don’t judge me. ::EDIT:: Postybird didn't include the spoiler tag when it posted this - I've added it now!

This was completely unintentional, I swear. It all started with wondering why Rayla has white eyebrows but her parents both have brown eyebrows; what was dominant and what was recessive genetically. I very quickly lost control of the spreadsheet and before I knew it I’d figured Callum’s genetics out as well as Rayla, Lain and Tiadrin's. Rayllum kids quickly followed suit over an afternoon. This was ready to share but then the trailer dropped and I tweaked my version of adult Callum to have scarring on his face (I’m convinced the larger cut on his cheek at least will scar and he’ll mirror Amaya that way. He may even have trouble opening his right eye too later on given the swelling around it but I didn’t include that). Something else to note here; humans in TDP afaik don’t have wedding rings but I imagine the couple marrying would wear a matching item. Callum lacks horns so he can’t wear cuffs but then I thought, what about a piercing? I’d imagine a ring would probably get in the way of spells - where would it go with mage wings for starters? Would Fulminis backfire into the mage with a metal loop on their finger? Probably not but I also thought of Rayla and her blades; would a ring be more likely to get snagged in battle and risk her losing that finger? That thought process led to Rayla and Callum both having a piercing in their right earlobe to signify their marital status instead of a ring. I imagine they're both in their early 40's here. As for their kids, in order of eldest to youngest; Ivan (17), Sarai (15) and Amaris (10). All of them have horns of varying lengths. Sarai and Amaris both have four fingers, Ivan technically has five. Ivan was originally (but tentatively) called Ibis but the confusion it caused in the discord channel convinced me to change it sooner. He’s called Ivan now (I played a game called Golden Sun waaaay back in the day and a wind mage in that game is called Ivan. Ever since then, Ivan has always had an association with air/sky/wind to me). Ivan loves to prank Lujanne and Lujanne always ‘freaks his bean’ back in response without fail. His pinko is smaller than the size of a normal human’s so he says he has four-and-a-half fingers. He has central heterochromia too. Callum teaches him moon magic (when he’s not distracted by Rayla walking past that is - I have a pic planned for that). Sarai was easy to name and she loves magic like her dad. Whenever Ivan slings an arm around her shoulders, she knows he’s plotting something and he needs her magic to help. She learns the sky arcanum from Callum over time but she can’t summon mage wings. The family shadowpaw absolutely adores her and Sarai regularly takes her out for runs - or patrols as she calls them. Amaris was the hardest to name. He’s the youngest, quietest and is terrified of the dark. It got to the point where he couldn’t sleep unless someone he really trusted slept in the same room as him ‘to keep the night monsters away’. Having seen the trailer for S5, I think he overheard the tales of the creatures that came out at night around Lux Aurea which led to this fear. His parents soon found a creature called a lumindog (aka a glowy pomeranian), creatively called Lumin by Amaris, and he gives off a gentle glow whenever his fur moves. Lumin is essentially Amaris’ nightlight and he’s very protective of Amaris too, likewise Amaris towards him. Lumin’s method of glowing also means that whenever he sneezes the sudden movement causes him to flashbang the room.

So this took me longer than intended to make - my tablet slowly began to crap out then gave up completely, making it really difficult to draw and I don't recommend using the mouse at all. This is based on something I've slowly been writing before we had anything S5 related and I'll be honest, I wrote Callum using a lightning punch before we were shown it in the trailer so I'm super hyped about that. I was going to include an excerpt from the story here, but I may tweak the scene later on when I go through it again for the hundredth time, so text may not match. I do however hope to get it onto AO3 before S5 drops though (just need a beta reader to go through it when it's completely done). (I have a Rayllum family pic to share soon too).

I saw so many people wishing for either a Pirates of the Caribbean kiss to happen in S5 and/or someone to draw it. I'm working on so many other pictures I thought that would help me resist temptation. Bold of me to assume. The kiss genie granted yet another wish. I drew it as close as I could to the marriage scene image. I was going to add more to the background but I have so many other pics I want done before S5 drops that I left this as it is. So think of it as out of sheer relief that the other is okay and so caught up in the moment, following a brush with pirates or maybe a huge sea creature, they rush together and kiss.
