In Focus Manifesting

I just picked up a few new ARCs to read, and I'm really excited about them!

Or, at least, I was until I started reading the first one. The author of In Focus Manifesting is also publishing In focus Shadow work at the same time, so I picked up that ARC too. I was excited to read both bc I haven't read much on either manifesting or shadow work, and was just considering getting into them so the timing was impeccable.

But this book reeks of white, american, christian, holier-than-thou toxic positivity! Not to mention that it's just the law of attraction re-packaged for "the modern witch". Did I mention I'm only 40 pages in?

Now I've lost all hope that the shadow work book is going to be any good.

i think part of what gets lost when people stress the importance of reading is that it's not purely about imagination or living in someone else's (fictional) head for a while (though this is important). no one is trying to force feed people anna karenina or all of dickens. no one is waiting in line to make you feel stupid or shame you for not liking / being intimidated by whatever assigned reading you were given at 15 and reliving your worst classroom experiences.
