Natasha wakes to the sound of little feet pattering across the bedroom floor. She grins to herself when she feels a little hand on her arm.

“Mama,” the small girl whispers. “I can’t sleep.”

Without even opening her eyes, Nat pulls the covers down to gesture for her daughter to slip into the bed. Ali climbs in and snuggles into the warmth of her mama.

“Mama,” Ali says.

“Yes, malyshka?” Natasha asks.

“Can you sing to me?”

Nat hums and starts to sing a soft tune. It’s an old song she’s pretty sure she learned when she was living in Ohio. The little girl’s eyes get heavy from the comforting embrace and voice.

You stir awake after she’s already fallen back to sleep.

“Everything okay?” You ask Nat.

“Yeah, she wanted me to sing to her,” she replies.

You smile and kiss Nat’s cheek and Ali’s forehead.

“I love you,” you tell them. “She’s so lucky to have you.”

“I love you too,” Natasha says. “I’m lucky to have her.”

You snuggle closer to your girls and all three fall into a slumber together.
