hm. yknow, if riz was to be in a relationship it’d have to be a poly one, because a monogamous one would be doing the pairing-off-esque thing that he deeply doesn’t want to happen. if you presume he has a ‘favorite friend’ you’re falling into the same trap he is by presuming that some friends mean more (and he presumes there is always the least favorite friend). it feels like this kind of relationship hierarchy is what he doesn’t like, because he feels like he’s always going to be the odd one out and the one that everyone’s leaving

Dude, your essay was absolutely beautiful. For context, this is for my cousin and I's future fic "A Guide to Tainted Sorrow", where Vanitas is "killed" by Noé and ends up being teleported by Luna into the Stray Dogs World, and naturally to Yokohama. Vanitas loses his memories in the process and has to learn how to live in this world and who to trust.

The story follows an alternate route to how S5 finished, since we started writing this when the last chapter was 101, so before S4 came out.

oh my god vanitas getting dropped into yokohama at the ‘end’ of his previous journey would be such an interestingly difficult thing to plot out 😭

Yknow, I gotta say that the whole ‘no improper relation between the sexes’ is just saying that he doesn’t see the point in dating/having sex at that time, and that it’s like, distracting his peers from their studies & if he sees them doing too much pda he’ll stop them. Like, the chasseurs can definitely be some brand of queerphobic, but that phrasing isn’t uncommon historically even if we don’t tend to see it today because we recognize its queerphobic. like, at some point that wasn’t an uncommon way to refer people having sex/dating outside of marriage. I’d just say it’s a flawed translation into English (i.e. the translator did a too direct translation & didn’t think about the connotation in English, or something along those lines)
