In the moment, it feels wonderful—the soft caress against Renjun's face, the hand splayed across his lower back pulling him in close. He loves the warmth between them and allows himself to fall into Jaemin's rhythm as their kiss turns hungrier, deeper.

But it's only for a moment.

Renjun's feelings for Jaemin reaches far beyond a sea Jaemin could only hope to cross. He wouldn't be able to bear the tides of Renjun's emotions. He's shown that he is incapable of complex intimacy and as such, will always return to shore to find another whose waters would keep him steady.

But unlike a sailor that returns to the sea despite the perils it's caused him. Renjun refuses to play the hopeless fool and would rather sink and drown. So he reasons with himself that all goodbyes are painful, and... that some people you hold close to your heart need to be let go.

It's for the best, he reasons again. Then pushes Jaemin away.

"Jaemin. I can't live my life a nervous wreck. And I know if I give you another chance... I'd be making a mistake."
