Pierre Carrier-Belleuse – Pierrot and Ballerina (1900)

In 1888, the Cercle Funambulesque was founded in Paris, producing pantomimes inspired by the Italian commedia dell'arte. Due to their influence, the most popular among its characters became Pierrot, who would commonly get portrayed not only by male, but also by female actors, such as Félicia Mallet and even the famous Sarah Bernhardt. Carrier-Belleuse's painting depicts one such version of Pierrot, portrayed by the unknown female mime.

as a generally curious person, the one question that's always burning at the back of my mind is: how do my mutuals look?? so because tumblr is the Great Anonymous Basement of the internet and we're obviously not posting selfies, I'm asking you all (very very nicely) to reblog this and tell me what you look like in the tags!!

#ohhhh this is such a fun idea op !!! #I have light brown hair that’s cut just above my shoulders #I normally wear it in any common style from the 40s #<- ​whatever hair style just came to your mind I have worn #editing to say: my hair is naturally wavy but I pin curl it every two days :) #my eyes are a mix of green & blue? they become more blue as the colour gets further from my pupil #if that makes sense lol #my teeth are a little crooked & I only seem to break out on my forehead :’) #I’m grateful that my acne isn’t as bad as it could be. but I have quite a few acne scars on my forehead and a few spots currently #I’m 5’2 and very slim & lanky lol #oh and I also wear big round glasses #kind of like Sophia’s actually! #I got them when I was 7 I think? or like. not these frames but I’ve had glasses since I was that little #I’m never seen without my great aunts ring & the necklace (& matching bracelet) my dad gave me #& I like to wear lots of skirts and dresses :) I’m most comfortable with things that fall below my knees. #<- i think I’m now confident in my style enough to say that I look like a little lady straight out of the 1940s haha #I have a ton of beauty marks #but the most recognizable ones are one above my lip & in the middle of my neck/collarbone ? #that’s all !! this was SO fun !!! #& it’s lovely to get to know what my mutuals look like <3 I’m always curious lol #edit number 2: I have the most atrocious eye bags that no concealer has been able to help yet. I also have a nose similar to roses! #<- I’m unsure what the shape of my nose would be called but it looks exactly like hers! #<- ​last edit for real lol I get so nervous to leave out details

I know this is mostly an art blog, but oh my god. I absolutely have to share this dress I thrifted today, because I know I’ve got a handful of vintage fashion enjoyers here as well, and it’s also incredibly rose nylund core lol (picture under the cut, feel free to skip if you’re only here for art & not my personal shenanigans)

Anyway, if you see me draw rose in this dress any time soon no you did NOT !!!! I bought it partly because it reminded me of her so much 😭🤍 rose you’re forever my favourite.
