Also, y'all need to remember that not everyone has the same ease of access to the local library. People work, and libraries operate with VERY small windows outside of work hours. People are disabled, elderly, ill, or have small children and can't just hop up and go to the library to read or check out books. As legislation becomes even more hostile to houseless people, they become less welcome and feel less safe entering the library to make use of the services we provide, but many still have a smartphone or other wi-fi enabled device.
We pay for Libby FOR YOU. Because we want EVERYONE to be able to read and learn and have access.
Is it equitable access? No. There is always work to be done. But it is better.
Please, please, please use your public library's eReading services. Even if you don't need them. Even though they are expensive. Other people DO need them, and besides.
We're paying for it anyway. We decided it's worth it to provide it. Enjoy it 💕
"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

Maybe I don't want to consume media, did you ever think of that?
Maybe I want to savor it. Sample it. Press it to the roof of my mouth until I can pick the flavors apart piece by piece. Maybe I want to wrap up half and put it in the fridge to save for later or share with a friend. Maybe I want to stretch it to last over weeks or even months. Maybe I'll pair it with a wine or a whiskey to see what new experience I can garner.
Maybe I am ravenous. I want this thing and every last drop of substance I can draw out of it. Maybe sometimes I haven't eaten in a while, and I want to devour it. Maybe I want to go in with messy fistfuls instead of a knife and fork and then despair when it's all gone all too soon. Just rip it apart and swallow it down until there's nothing left to do but lick the plate.
Maybe instead of consuming media as fast as my greedy, under-stimulated brain can manage in a futile attempt to keep up with the never-ending deluge of new shows, new movies, new hit series, new adaptation, new up-and-coming, new season, new on Hulu, new to Netflix, new from Paramount, new, new, new-
I want to enjoy it, revel in it, roll around and get down and dirty with it.
Did you ever think of that?

It pisses me the fuck off that yoga is actually ancient and really good for you. Part of me still feels like it was invented to extract wealth from white socal moms.

do you not ever get tired of pessimism? of hating hope? of being miserable? like yeah life is full of horrors and terrors. but it’s also full of strangers who hold the door open for for you. the color green. stained glass windows. bluegrass music. cats who butt their heads against your leg. dancing and laughing and crying.
none of that cures the agonies, but they are small acts of resistance to it. things may be shit, but life can still be good. and i know that because good things still exist. simple and small and full of hope.

“If you have time to watch Netflix you have time for a side hustle” my side hustle is relaxing so that my body and brain can heal from by this nose-to-the-grindstone bullshit. I refuse to feel guilty for being a human with the need to relax sometimes. my side hustle is no.

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

Lan Qiren: You can excuse necromancy?! 🤨
Random Person: I just can't get past the necromancy tbh
Lan Wangji: Yeah? Maybe I don't love the necromancy either, but that's a conversation between ME and HIM in private. As for YOU, I don't know who YOU think YOU are to be questioning MY pookie.

"Welp, I know where I'm going!"
Writing Prompt #138:
On their 17th birthday, everyone receives a letter from their future selves. Many receive long messages with wisdom, regrets, long lost lovers and choices, while others seek economic gains and riches. You’ve just received yours and it contains nothing more than a long list of coordinates and the words, “DO NOT VISIT”.
