Darkness
falls upon the land.
Have you ever really and I mean, really really, thought about nothing. And I mean really, really submerged in it, into the infinite lack of everything, into the void. Have you ever, even for just a second, grasped the concept of the end of time, not just humanity, but the solar system, the milky way, our entire universe. Each and every single star and every constellation. Even further than that, the end of every universe ever and whatever more there is to it, the lack of e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. When there will be no one there to perceive, but also nothing to be perceived, when time won’t and will never be again? Have you? Because sometimes, if I really, really concentrate and try very hard to, for just the glimpse of a second, I begin to understand. Naturally, given the limited capacities of the human brain, I loose hold of it immediately and yet for that very glimpse of a second, the weight of it suffocates me.
Is this what has been discretely dressed (elegantly masked) with the euphemism ‘eternity’ throughout history? Would it even be of sense to use a word which postulates the existence and presence of ‘time’ for an entity which, by all means, lacks it completely? I once heard someone explain that time is merely a conceptual word used to describe and explain the changing of things as we know, or, knew them. However, following up on this definition, it would make time something that exists outside of the human and animal (while in my opinion there is no difference) experience. Naturally there would be no one there to actually perceive the changing of things from how they were to how their ought to be but nonetheless, it would still occur. According to the 2nd law of thermodynamics in modern physics, matter enclosed in a system undisturbed by impact of energy will always strive for higher entropy, meaning, the greater chaos. To live is to oppose this. We, as living beings, have been soldiers in an ongoing war against the greater chaos ever since the birth of the first life form 3,8 billion years ago and every day since then, we have won. Nevertheless, this is unimportant. As I said in the beginning, eternity experiences an utter lack of time, as it encapsulates the ceasing of both matter and light (energy). Change will not occur, as there is nothing to be changed, thus, time looses its meaning. This is a greater question than the question of death. However they share one very important quality: Both will, inevitably, occur. One to us, one to, well, everything.
Maybe this is the point and thereby final trajectory of this entry. We have to remember the doom of the universe: Eternity. This idea might already be familiar to you, but it is important to note that we are only able to grasp ideological concepts by the existence of their counterparts. We only understand presence because we have experienced lack, we only know to love because we have learned to hate, and we know to admire beauty because we have defined ugliness. I say this because if you have never allowed yourself to (even just for the glimpse of a second) grasp ‘Darkness’, how are you to cherish Light?
The monotony of life: the 4 walls of a living room, the dirty black windows of an old tube, empty coffee cups. Always the same, rigid, old routine. It is as though urbanisation and industrialisation have led us to forget an ancient song intrinsic to us, the lullaby Existence used to sing us to sleep to all but 3,8 billion years ago.
The entity i attempted to introduce you to in the beginning lacks both energy and matter. Lacks anything, everything really. And yet that is why we need it so desperately, that is the reason we mustn’t forget it. Because if we do not realise eternity, we fail to grasp existence, and the wonders of our world remain all but a mundane standard, all but simply there. Always have and always will be. Life will pass us by without meaning and we will never realise that wonders beyond our wildest imagination were right in front and within us the entire time. A single grain of sand holds the universe within its shell.
In its imperial mortality, all the universe asks of us in our mortality is to look at it. To see it, live it, marvel at its burning glory before it ceases from existence for evermore, just as we will to follow.
Love, A.l.

Blog entry 02, 1st of January 24’
Morning
Good Morning, i hope you’ve rested well. Recently I’ve begun to dwell on the concept of Mornings, rather, their meaning, importance, routine. I myself have found myself heavily underestimating their significance, or rather effect. I suppose a day is just a day really. A day amongst many more to come and to have been, and yet it’s the realm we exist in, of course we also exist in weeks, months, years and centuries. You could just as well say that the realm we exist in are hours, minutes or seconds and technically science wouldn’t stop you from going further, to milliseconds, nanoseconds etc etc. But that’d be ridiculous. Starting every hour with a ritual would be terribly disruptive, every minute unthinkable and every second mad mans work. Every day however, possibly vital. By starting something with intention and care we give it significance, and i suppose we art to give our life significance. One more thing adding to the “day” as the one organizational level worth focusing on is the whole shtick with the sun of course. Day and Night. Wake and Slumber. We, in the name of human kind, base many of our rituals around the heavens. Yesterday for example, was New years eve. I met with friends (we hosted our annual murder mystery dinner, it was rather lovely) and at 23:50 we walked down to the lake, naturally everyone in the neighborhood did. At 00:00 everyone let their fireworks go off and it was incredible. I must add I (morally) can’t quite get behind fireworks but i won’t get into that now. I was in a sort of haze like state the entire time, the weight and importance of it all wouldn’t quite get to me, but everyone was going around hugging eachother, all happy and fuzzy and beaming. In this trance i was in, with the spectacle in the sky and everyone surrounding me i really couldn’t help but heavily admire their humanity. And that is how i came to think about the start of things, about time. it is important to give significance to both the beginning and the end. Baptisms, birthdays, anniversaries, new years eve, morning routines, nighttime routines, farewells, funerals. Its not only a way to bring structure into chaos but a way to make it bearable. We molded incidents into occasions and attached hundreds and hundreds of years of history, of humanity, of meaning to them just so that we wouldn’t loose our minds.
Back to Mornings. There is this quote that struck me as desperately poetic without the least intention to, it was: “stretch your tired body”. My own mother is very big on the topic of yoga. She works long hours, comes home late in the evening, watches a bit of television and goes to bed. That doesn’t seem like much, however she wakes early in the morning, mornings are very dear to her. For many years she has been keen and consistent on starting her day with yoga, she has pledged to me more times than i can count how much she adores it. To be frank i never could quite understand why, it seemed a bit dull and uneventful to me. That was until recently. Following the quote at the beginning of this paragraph, i did exactly that, stretched my tired body, it was then i understood that what’s so pure about yoga is the fact that you become aware of your existence on a carnal level. It’s such a peculiar, intrinsic sensation, the slight soft pain, feeling your fascia slowly elongate and give in to movement. You exit this old, rusty sleep ridden state you were in, leave your headspace and sort of come to live. Your mind connects to the holistic vessel that is your body, your flesh. That is exactly what it feels like.
Once more i am proven right by the universe that mother really does always know best.
I will go catch up on some sleep now, good night you, love A.l.

Blog entry 01, 30th of December 23‘
Hello,
I should go ahead and mention that for as long as I can remember, the concept of starting a blog has existed as an idea circulating my mind, or rather, I played with the idea of it. I remember television shows i watched as i was young and impressionable: Emmas Chatroom, H2O. Nothing out of the ordinary, we have all heard the name of it. The way technology is portrayed in those new age formates always spoke to me, it‘s not much something i can put into written speech but rather a nostalgic sensation. I suppose the terminus to capture it is an aesthetic named „frutiger Aero“. I have much to no idea where that name originated from precisely, it sounds a bit odd. Nonetheless, not long ago I happened to enter my 20th year of life, (however I am 19, still) and with the new year being around the corner, i took the liberty of adding this idea circulating my mind for the past century to my new years resolution list and knowing my habitual patterns of inconsistency, there‘s hardly anything wrong with starting early. Enigmatic!
Although i can feel the entitlement soaking through the pages from the pre-assumption it would need for the statement I’m about to make, i should still like to say that the purpose of this blog is none more than to create a space for thoughts, that have or will occur within my Neurocranium, to develop in, safely. Implying that the gaze I am writing for is none other than my present and future self, everything abnormal to that i am, naturally, okay with and appreciative but not expectant of.
Right, on that note i should wish you a good night.
Love, A.l.

is the opening scene of good omens 2 is inspired by the Harry Clarke's 1924 painting called "two winged angels in profile"?

Why did I, a certified Harry Clarke fan, not know about this?
It wasn't but it should have been.

Hello neil! I have a question about crowleys snake face “tattoo” :)
in the third episode when we see crowley and aziraphale throughout the centuries, the snake on crowleys temple moves (or saunters vaguely) downwards to make room for his mutton chops, is this because crowley is in control of the snake and can manifest it to appear anywhere he likes, or is the snake alive and simply chooses to slither downwards to still be visible? Is the snake crowleys version of the animals some other demons have on their heads? Where did it come from?
Yes.

Something something the way that Crowley introduced himself to Aziraphale the first time they met in the garden and reacted as if they had never met before. Something about him later behaving as if he did actually have those memories of their time in Heaven together and trying to pass it off as being someone different now. Something about Heaven's way of punishing angels that go against the plan by erasing their memories. Something about Crowley seeing Gabriel without his memory and saying "ask him properly." Something about "remember it now" "it hurts, to remember. my head isn't built for that" "I know. Do it anyway"
Something about "I know. Looking at where the furniture isn't"
Something about I know

ohhhhhh I truly cannot get over the EVIL GENIUS of having crowley make a point of immediately taking his sunglasses off every time he's in the bookshop or alone with aziraphale this season, showing just how comfortable he's become showing his emotions and his vulnerability to aziraphale since season 1, opening himself up completely at every opportunity, showing us a side of him that's remained almost entirely hidden for millennia, only for him to silently and purposefully put his sunglasses back on immediately once aziraphale rejects his love confession. like, bravo gaiman, I saw what you did there and I'm never going to fucking recover from it. well done

I showed my father A Study in Emerald, as he is a big Holmes fan, and he told me to "Let this Neil Gaiman fella know that he's a pretty good writer", and that he should "Write some more of these stories, if he's not too busy."
I really should. Show him "A Case of Death and Honey" too, if you get a chance.
