“I think…” my hands fiddle with my watch.
“You’re safe,” my dad whispers as he schoochs closer to me.
“I’m depressed again. I’m not sure if I ever really stopped.” I feel weak and exposed. My dad puts his arms around me. I want to lean into and squirm away.
“Oh Flipper. I’m sorry…” my dads been through to much. And now he has a broken kid. “What can I do for you.”
I’m lost for words. I sit there like a rock. I don’t know. I don’t know.
“Please Finley. I want to help you.”
“I don’t think you can.” Dr. Garner couldn’t help, Dr. Sims couldn’t help, Mr. Barnes couldn’t fix me, Mr. Daredevil couldn’t. No one has, no one can.
He sits there anyway for a while. The moon slowly rises, the sun sets. The shadows on my wall grow long. His stomach runbles. He excused himself to go eat.
And I sit there. Overthinking and not thinking about a thing. Worrying about the past, fretting the future. Stuck in a limbo that the passage of time can’t even solve.

“Do I even want to know?” As Dr. Simmons. I follow after her.
“Know what?”
“What were you doing here?” She turns to face me, fear all over her face. “You’re lucky it was us who responded or you would be coming with us.”
“It wasn’t intentional, sorry.” I mumble. She pinched her nose bridge.
“Fitz is reprogramming your TUMBLR device. He should be done soon. Then you need to get out of here. Will give you a bit of a smoke trail but there’s only so much we can do.”
“Thank you. It’s good to see you.” I whisper.
“It’s good to see you too. Lovingly, I for your safety, I never want to see you again.” I nod and hold back some tears.
“How’s it going?” Agent Mack says as he comes out of the plane.
“Good.” He goes in for a hug before I can back up.
“Get some help okay?” He whispers. I nod and he releases me.
“Here you go,” Fitz walks to me with the device. “All fixed. Jemma we better be going.” His Scottish accent thick and nervous.
“Okay. Good luck.” She says to me and gets on the plane. Agent Mack waves good bye and follows them.
I watch the plane disappear into the sky. I let out a sign and kick a rock. I power on my phone.
“Hey dad,” I say when he picks up.
“Oh my god are you okay?” His voice is filled with panic.
“Yea, I’m. I’ll be home before spring break is done.”
“Okay Finley, I’ll see you soon.”
I click the phone off. I should probably reach out to some other people.

I sprint out of the building as I try to tune my web shooters one. They seem terribly busted though. My bag slips of my shoulder and I shrug back up. I fumble with the communication device.
If I activate this, I won’t ever be able to use it again. I won’t ever be able to talk to The spiderverse again. But it was the only way I could Contact Sheild. I hit the emergency panic button. I hid the device in some shrubs and climbed up a tree.
Countless guys run out, guns in hands. They look around for me. Luckily with my suit back on, and it’s being in the dead of night they don’t notice me. I queitly fiddle with the web shooters. Damn. I run my hand over my knives. Rookie mistake, all my stuff in a room next to me in one place.
The ringmaster comes out and starts screaming at everyone.
“Ooooooooooh spider when I find you!” He roars. I grip the tree tighter. I just hope they don’t leave.
Five minutes pass with people looking. Ten. Twenty. I start getting nervous. What if that device doesn’t work. Why if Shield doesn’t come. There.
A small crunch or gravel. Two large SUVs pull in. People pile out of the car, guns in hands. I hear shooting and confusion.
Alright let’s get this wrapped up.

“They bent that gun like it was a pipe cleaner.” A hush voice says. “There’s no way normal cuffs are gonna hold em.”
“They still think we have Camilla and Ivy, that should do the trick for long enough.” A different fuzzy voice said.
“Did Brown say how he lost them?”
“No.”
I still can’t see, or move. I’m floating at the edge of consciousness. Best to keep it that way for now.
“How are you feeling Maynard.”
“That’s bitch got their teeth in there. Some sorta venom too. I’ll be fine though. I just don’t know how to get them back under.” That has to be the ringleader, or I guess Maynard.
I didn’t know I had venom. I guess you learn something new every time you get knocked out.
“That bullet wound is healing fast.” Says not Maynard. Oh I’m gonna make fun of him for that. “At this rate they should be able to move around in like an hour, and fully healed in like 2 days. Do you want me to give them another dosage?”
“No. I bring the guns in. How much longer do we have?”
“Probably about 3 hours.” Oh they don’t know. I can get out of here. The voices fade away. Come on, just wake up.

Shoots rang through the air. My left legs erupts in fire. I grip the ringmaster tighter, holding myself up. Three people burst into the room guns a blazing.
“Drop him.” The middle one screams.
“What if I don’t?” I say through gritted teeth.
“You die and then Camilla and her daughter. Let him go.” The middle one says again.
I survey the room. No web shooters. Three people ten feet from me with fully loaded ARs. A shot leg. Two peoples life on the line at the minimum. Shit.
I shove the ringmaster forward and through my hands up. The two side people rush to my side. The middle one keeps his gun fixed on me. They pull a pair of cuffs out and I chuckle to myself. Oh yeah those will work.
My tingle goes up like crazy and I feel it. A needle slips into my arm. Shit. The drug or whatever hits me nearly immediately. I lash out and strike the person closest to me.
“Don’t resist.” Screams the middle man.
He shoves the gun into my stomach. My vision blurs. I grab the gun and bend the barrel. Someone smacks my head down, I bite down on their hand. I hear curdled screams, blood leaks into my mouth.
A laugh bubbles in my throat, teeth barred.
“You won’t win,” I gurgle. The ringmaster grips my throat.
“I always win.” He states. Maybe it’s the drug, the blood lose or the lack of oxygen, and then I pass out.

Okay. You’re okay. You have this under control. The door creaks open. The ringmaster lets out a raspy chuckle.
“Follow me Spider.” The ringmaster says. I turn to face him. My tingle setting off through my body. The ringmaster tsks a bit. “I don’t know how you did it.” He knows.
I spring into action grabbing his arms and twisting them behind his back.
“How do I keep Ivy, Camilla, and everyone else safe.” I snarl.
“Let me go, simple.” He murmurs.
“Wrong answer.” I tighten my grip on the creep. “Who do I need to call off. No one has to get hurt. Especially you.”
I hear footsteps and whip towards them Bring the ringmaster with me. I move on of my arms to his throat. Two people stare at us.
“I need you two to lead me to a place I can call off the shooter or your creepy boss gets it.”
“It’s okay, just calm down, you’re so tired.” The ringmaster whispers.
“No I’m not.” The random people stare at the ringmaster for guidance. “Come on I don’t have all day.” Finally they turn away from me and start walking, a little kick to the ringleader and we follow.
My tingle doesn’t leave me the whole walk to a small room. Inside is full of computers and who knows what else. I force the ringmaster into the main computer.
“I can bring the full us goverment down on you. But I won’t. I’m a busy person. You just need to leave Camilla and her whole circus and her daughter alone. Deal?”

Ooc: still in the Ringmasters POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What do you know about them?” My assistant asks.
“Not much, won’t tell me anything. I don’t know why.” I reply. This was no suppose to happen. They should listen to me. But they were still resisting.
I look over at the spider. A mere child, with sunk eyes and grey hair. They stare ahead, not really looking at anything. The heart monitor beats pretty steady.
“Do we have anything back on the brain scans?” I ask.
“Not yet,” she says. “Probably take a little time. Do you want me to take them to a pod?”
“Uhm, yea sure. Meet me in the back room. We have stuff to plane.” I say. This will work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Back to Finley’s POV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A brain scan? That’s not good. I gotta get out of here before they get those results back. Can they even see hypnotism on a scan? I didn’t even know I was till after the scans.
These people were in the middle of blood test. And boom suddenly I just was there you know? So far no one’s notice. I’m surprise the ringleader hasn’t.
“Follow her to the pod and wait.” The ringmaster says. I nod lightly. Just keep the heart even.
The lady leads me down a hallway. The complex is smaller than hydra, I think. I don’t know I haven’t been conscious for most of it. She opens some door and motions for me to go in. I do and stand still till the door clothes. I slowly look around for cameras. Great, none. Finally I can catch a break.
The room is small, all cinderblocks. No window or vents. A heavy metal door. I check myself for injuries. I’m in like a hospital gown. That’s not promising. I find a few needle marks in my arms. Some sticky residue on my chest. But nothing to concerning. So that’s good.
I wait. Standing still . For who knows how long. I hope everyone is okay. Once again people in danger cause of Me. Even if I get out of here, what would happen to Ivy and Camilla.

My head feels fuzzy. The ringmaster states at me.
“You must be so tired.” He says.
My tongue feels huge. My eyes blurry slightly.
“You should rest. Remember when you were younger?”
I find myself nodding along.
“Imagine you bed, how your parent held you. Remember feeling safe? You can be safe again. Here. Rest. You must be so tired.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
switching to ringmaster pov. Finley is successfully hypnotized
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“That was easy,” I say as I stand up and wipe my hands. I make my way to the cock pit. “How much longer?”
“20 minutes sir.” The pilot replies.
“Okay in going to need help with the spider when we land.” I say to the flight attendant. She nods.
I head back to where the child lays. I strap them into the seat. It’s tempting to start toying with them now. But i best better wait. I finish my whisky and stare out the window till we land.
The flight attendant help me pick up the spider. Their weight shifts beneath us a bit. But soon we slip them into the car waiting for us. We drive to the compound. Time to wake them up. I snap my fingers right below their noise.
Their head snaps up, eyes glancing around till they land on me. Startled, like the others.
“Come on, inside we go.” I say. I could see them trying to resist, a small part of the brain trying to stop them. “You need to meet your new family.” I whisper. Their eyes glaze a bit and they follow me.
Perfect.

“You don’t have to hurt anyone.” I say
“No, that’s entirely up to you. It is true, most of my help has… been out of commission.” The ringleader says as he swirls his drink.
“Why do you want me?” I ask. How did you know about me.
“Well, I didn’t see eye to eye with hydra many years ago.” He starts. “Even though I left, I did leave behind some ears and eyes, don’t want to be out of the loop.”
“Can’t be having that.” I reply sharply. He ignores me and continues.
“I hear about their experiments, the winter soldier, a spider… a few others. I’ve wanted powered people for years. Just never could quite breach the market. The circus definitely helped. Got a lot more freaks. Almost got Hawkeye, that silly little boy ran away from his family.” He takes a sip of alcohol. “But you, or at least someone like you… was ideal.”
“What do you want?” I ask again.
“You dear.” The ringmaster shifts slightly to Isa Riggs. I grip the arm rest. Isa’s gone. Locked up. “I need helpers. I can’t do all the work. Plus you need a family.”
“I won’t do it.” I stutter.
“Do I need to remind you?” He points at the monitor again. Ivy laughs at something her mom says. “Soon I’ll figure out who you are, find your old friends and family. You always have a choice though.”
“Why don’t you guys ever get willing participants.” I groan.
“It’s the con-“
“Yes it’s the control I know.” I wave my hand. I’m sick of this shit. What would happen if I pulled the emergency exit door open?
“Sit back down.” The ringmaster says. “If you leave this place, Ivy and Camilla will be joining you.” I sit back down and stare him down.
“You won’t win.”
“Dear, I already did.”

The ringmaster leads me from the tent back to Camilla’s store so I can quickly grab my bag from the loft. His driver doesn’t say a word as he parks the limo outside. I dash in quickly and contemplate making a run for it. But I fear he may hurt Camilla or Ivy, hell or both. I flip my knife sheath on just incase and go back outside.
“Thank you for being quick, I hope the accommodations are suitable.” The ringmaster says in a smooth voice.
“Of course, they’re great. I’m so sorry, I don’t even know your name?” I ask, making sure my voice is sweet. He tsks a bit.
“No need to worry about that dear. From my understanding Camilla failed to inform you one what this circus really is.”
“She said it was a family. I’m assuming not a blood one.” I answer.
“You are a smart one. Yes it’s a family, not quite blood. Camilla has grown soft with her daughter. She forgets where she came from. Sometimes I just need to remind her.” His words sound like he is playing with knives. I nod and soon we pull into a small airstrip. Waiting for us is a jet.
“Let me take that for you.” The driver says as he pulls my door open. His spindly hand points at my bag.
“Oh no thank you sir. It has my headphones and meds in it.” I say and walk to the jet without looking back. It also had my suit and web shooters, I definitely wasn’t parting with those.
The plane rumbles off the runway and soon we are at cruising altitude. A flight attendant gives the Ringmaster a glass full of what I assume is to be whiskey and tries to offer me something. I decline and try to get comfortable.
“I thought they were rumors.l the ringmaster says breaking the silence. “I mean I believed they created a spider human, just didn’t believe they did it with a child.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t understand.” I say with a shake of my head. The ringmaster turns a screen towards me. A view of Ivy and Camilla in their store talking.
“I think you do. And for their best interest, I think you best comply.”
