The purpose of this survey is to collect data about the experiences of people who feel sensations of nonhuman body parts, for example, wings or a tail. Some call these supernumerary phantom limbs, phantom shifts, otherlimbs, or astral limbs, though you may have other preferences for the words you use for your own experiences. If you haven't had those experiences, you can participate in this survey too. This survey was made for people who call themselves otherkin, therianthrope, furry, or any other potentially alterhuman or nonhuman identity. If you don't describe yourself with any of those words, you can participate in this survey too.
The survey will take you about 6 to 15 minutes. Everyone age 18 and up is welcome to fill out the survey at the below link, until it closes on July 6, 2024:
Survey Link
Who is running this survey and why: The person running this survey is Orion Scribner (they/them), an otherkin/therianthrope who has been making projects about these communities since 2005. I will use the results in my panel at an Internet-based convention later this year (OtherCon 2024), and in other future research projects.

I feel like now is a good time to remind everyone that...
Nonhuman is an umbrella term, but it is also a standalone label.
You do not need to also be otherkin, otherlinker, otherhearted, therian, fictionkin, alterhuman (which itself may be 100% human and nothing else) or anything else to call yourself nonhuman. You can, if you want to, just use it by itself. No qualifiers, no further explanation required, no definition beyond 'not exclusively human in some way.'
You don't need to identify physically as not-human. Plenty of nonhumans do, and plenty more don't.
You don't need to identify entirely as not-human. There are lots of nonhumans that are also human, plus whatever else they are. There are similarly nonhumans who are in no way human. The term encompasses both without contradiction.
You do not need to specify any amount of voluntary/involuntary adoption of your identity. You can in fact choose to just be nonhuman because you want to do that, or you can come to it after a long time searching and conclude it's the only explanation, or you can fall anywhere in between.
You do not need to be any specific thing other than some degree of not-human. You can be an animal, plant, object, concept, song, creature, shapeshifter, character, device, AI, color, emotion, or anything else that exists or doesn't, or any kind of mixture of those things.
You do not need any specific reason to call yourself nonhuman. It can be a psychological thing, a spiritual thing, a physical thing, a coping thing, a reclamation thing, even just a 'because it's fun and makes you happy' thing.
You do not need anybody's permission or approval to be nonhuman. There are no gatekeepers who have any say over what a nonhuman is or is not, aside from the definition of the word itself, which is incredibly broad and open to interpretation. This is by design. Anybody who tries to stop you has no right to do so.
Please don't forget that when defining 'nonhuman.' It is not just a big tarp to be thrown over other labels. It is also its own full identity with its own merits and concepts, even if it is a very broad and inclusive identity.

Had a moment of realization while getting ready for school.
What if our collective draconity and collective identity as BT (the Kieran from our Pokémon AU) are actually one and the same, and we just didn’t recognize it since we hadn’t made BT yet?
Back when Kieran was first introduced in the DLC we definitely felt some sort of connection, and it grew once his design in the second half of it was revealed. Still, there was something off, like we were Kieran but to the left just enough that we didn’t consider him an alterhuman ‘type of any kind.
Once we made the AU though, we latched onto our version of him almost immediately. At first we thought it was because the AU was inspired by our alterhuman experiences and BT was heavily based on ourself. But he has ended up being some sort of collective kintype. Phantom limbs we’d had for a while but couldn’t explain are now explained, our strong connection to certain Pokémon and areas in that world, and other smaller things about our behavior and stuff lined up too perfectly.
Now we’re wondering if our collective draconity was actually because of him, since he’s draconic in the AU. Or if they are separate things that are connected by that shared draconity.

Staring up at the sky and just feeling intense longing
I should be up there, wings spread wide as I dive and twist in the air
Instead I’m down here with arms that feel like wings, long tails cramped into a car, and body that’s just oh so wrong

Nonhumans are here, even if you do not see us. We always will be. We are often hard to spot, but can be found doing all the things a human might.
A cat went to work at an event stall for a mental health service.
A massive sea serpent wanted to go to science class because it enjoyed it more than the rest of those living in its shared form.
The void sat down, huddled up in a blanket, to watch a tv show with its partners. It had to stop watching after a bit, but enjoyed spending time with those close to it anyway.
A wolf went to a psychologist appointment and gratefully drank the hot chocolate they were offered in the waiting room.
A shapeshifting being of pure darkness spoke publicly about trans rights in front of politicians and then went to the pride festival he helped fight to keep alive.
A dragon went to school so the others sharing his human body could have a break.
A manifestation of the fear of madness itself sat in the food court at the mall eating mochi and drinking tea while waiting for its friends to get back from shopping.
A witch drew a picture of his cardinal bird and shared the work he was so proud of with his friends.
A cockatoo borrowed the next book in his favourite series from the school library and almost couldn't wait the whole day to go home and read it.
An alien went camping and watched the birds outside and the way the wind made waves and patterns on the water.
A fallen angel went shopping for sunglasses to shield his eyes from how bright the sun was.
A harpy went shopping for new plants to look after. He named a few because he loved them so much, and sent pictures to all of his friends.
An anthropomorphic hedgehog traded Pokemon cards with his peers at school. He was happy with his collection.
You may not see us, and you may feel alone, but you are not. We are just hidden. We are in more places than you'd think, and in the places you'd least expect. We are complex, we are valued, and we are here.

Toys and media-related collectible items!! It includes plushies, but also figures and statues, keychains, pins, trading cards; it’s a pretty inclusive thing lol.
Our room looks like a child’s paradise (aside from the breakable stuff), and we wouldn’t have it any other way :)
Personally I’m a stuffed animal hoarder

I think the Kieran from our Pokémon AU has become a collective/system-wide identity or something XD
Not sure what label he’d fall under just yet but who cares; we’re him and that’s what matters lol!

Us being draconic has been genuinely causing problems recently and idk how to go about working on fixing it
Some context: we are a dragon with a “hoard” of sorts; it’s our lifelong collection of toys, plushies and general media collectibles. Every item we own is extremely important to us, and we are constantly adding to it whenever we get the chance.
The problem is coming from that desire to add to it.
We have a bit of a stealing problem. Not in the kleptomania way, since it’s not random objects though. It’s pretty much limited to toys and another things that would fit in our “hoard,” so we’re assuming it’s at least partially connected to us being draconic.
It’s been happening for most of our life, but it’s been getting worse recently, and we aren’t sure how to go about working on it considering that getting real help would mean admitting that we’ve been stealing cheap toys and the like for years now.
If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. We really want to work on stopping whatever this is.

We’ve been interacting with Pokémon RP blogs a lot and we’re realizing just how much being a fictive-heavy system with a lot of fictionkin members has affected our relationship with “fictional” media
We treat the RP blogs as if they’re not just RP, and sometimes have to remind ourselves that it’s a random person behind the blog; not the “character(s)” that they’re speaking as.
Part of it is from how we’re so used to interacting with people who have fictionkin and fictive identities, which is somewhat self explanatory, but the second part is what’s more interesting, at least to us.
Because of our experiences, we have the belief that everything that is “fictional” here is real in some other place. Every RP blog we interact with has a real, existing counterpart in some other world that is living a full life. Their world is real; their life is real; their experiences are real.
It really puts life in general into a different light, especially with how “average” people tend to interact with media.

We have a fun idea for a game!
Comment or reblog this with a character or characters that you headcanon or see as otherkin, therian, fictionkin, otherhearted, or any other alterhuman identity; feel free to elaborate on any specifics!
We’ll go first: Sunny (OMORI) being a cat therian (specifically a black cat) and N (Pokémon) being an unspecified Pokémon alterhuman of some kind (I see him being transspecies tbh)
Go wild guys!!

This world is so interesting as someone who was a Pokémon trainer and is kin with a Pokémon!!!
Like, most people here see Pokémon as “based on” creatures that exist here, but to me they’re creatures with uncanny similarities to each other!
An example would be this world’s version of Bombirdier (who is closest to a stork) being so similar yet so different to the bird I know!! Storks here have stories about them carrying babies to people, while the Bombirdiers I’m familiar with carry around rocks in their stomach flaps and drop them on prey!
And the Applin line being seen in the idea here of worms in apples! Back home they’re wyrms in apples, since they’re dragon types!
It’s so interesting to me comparing the creatures here to the ones in more familiar with, and seeing how some are reflected only in myths/legends (Like all the legendaries from my home in Kitakami, and the Japanese legend of Momotaro here!) and more abstract ideas and concepts (like Sinistcha and Poltchageist, and the practice of kintsugi!)
And me being Furret kin adds another layer to it since I somewhat know what it’s like living as a Pokémon too! The similarities and differences in “animal” life here and back home are really interesting too!

The absolute whiplash going from Necrozma (Pokémon) brain to my “normal” brain
One minute I’m all “Humans came to me like moths to the flame, in an attempt to harness light beyond their comprehension. I was not a deity, but they saw me as one and I embraced it,” to self deprecating because I wasted food
Still debating whether to label myself as deitykin or not bc of this kintype lol

Trying to see if there's a connection here. A question for those who don't live alone.
I just impulsively cooked an entire bag of chicken strips because someone opened it before me and that made me irrationally angry. It got me wondering if other animal folk feel the same way when it comes to food or if i'm just fucked up. So...
like.. for extra context, i went with mum to buy a bunch of chicken stuff that i could just airfry because depression is being a bitch lately. However, i did NOT pay for this food, so it doesn't actually belong to me and therefore, rational thinking would be "Oh, it's fine if someone else has any of the chicken too." but my dumb brain has gone "Mine! People touch food? Quick, eat it all so they can't take any more." which I know is not an ok way to be and so far, have told my brain to just shut the fuck up, but as you can guess, today i failed. I still have plenty left but yeah... i think what pissed me off the most was that they'd tore the bag WIDE open so that it could have easily all fallen out of it and ended up just loose in the freezer which... ew.
But yeah.. is this something people can relate to or am i just extra fucking unhinged???
Obligatory "reblog for larger sample size please" i guess.

would you love me if my bestial form had no remnant of human expression? if my face was unreadable, stoic, if the signifiers of personhood were gone? if i crawled on all fours, if my spine was hunched, if i didn't just bark and purr but chuff, snort, snarl? is monstrosity good when it isn't palatable? how much inhumanity can you tolerate?

The panel at the Draconic Summit earlier tonight on draconic spirituality has really opened our eyes on a lot of things
Rayquaza (ze goes by Ray for short) has always been a sort of guardian figure to me, especially since our system discovery and us talking directly. In delta’s world, ze and the other legendary/mythical Pokémon all had chosen “humans” who they would grant boons to in some form, and I am Ray’s.
The panel earlier really helped us put our relationship with this guardianship into a new light, through the perspective of spiritual guides/guardians and draconic spirituality. It was an extremely enlightening discussion, and both of us feel as if we understand each other better now.
