How old do you think Grimmy is? I’ve seen a post around putting him and his Fraccion as the oldest Arrancar ever made. (I think that’s what it said but I’m not super sure).
Hmmm his true age would be impossible to pin down, but he has to be a few centuries old, at least! Before Grimm or his Fracción became Arrancar, Shawlong stated how many Hollows they all consumed at an unnamed time in their past.
Tumblr media
Now, Hollows devour other Hollows for power and in most cases nourishment (more or less to fill the void in their chests). As bloodthirsty as Hollows are, I can’t see them being able to consume 1,000 Hollows in three days. Consuming what’s literally a only small portion of their total body count takes a lot of time. There has to be some sort of limit on how much they can eat or else every Hollow would be impossibly powerful. This alone is evidence that they’re ancient.
As for when they became Arrancar, Grimm and his Fracción are some of the first to be changed! But not the first in line. Grimmjow himself was the 12th Adjuchas to be changed into an Arrancar, with his Fracción Shawlong being 11th (the only member of his group “older” than him). Also, the road to becoming an Adjuchas takes a loooot of time as well. It takes years to become a Hollow in the first place. Then years more to become a Gillian. Then Adjuchas. THEN Vasto Lorde. And with Aizen’s meddling, Arrancar.
While Grimm and his boys were one of the first few to be turned into Arrancar, it’s doubtful they’re the oldest Arrancar. The oldest Arrancar would most likely go to the second Espada (and not just because he looks old lmao).
Personally, I think Grimm would canonly be at least a thousand years old.

Gonna start off this blog with one of my own personal headcanons for Grimmjow:
Selective Mutism
According to Wikipedia (which is actually a good source for information), Selective Mutism is, “an anxiety disorder in which a person who is normally capable of speech cannot speak in specific situations or to specific people. Selective mutism usually co-exists with shyness or social anxiety. People with selective mutism stay silent even when the consequences of their silence include shame, social ostracism, or punishment.”
Grimmjow is not in any way, shape, or form shy, but I’m certain he has social anxiety (but that’s for another post). I want to focus on key points within the quote. I want to begin with, “a person who is normally capable of speech cannot speak in specific situations or to specific people.” Grimmjow is known for running his mouth. He’s a punk. He fights back against those in authority and people who see themselves (or who he believes is) superior. I don’t particularly think Grimmjow is the talkative type, but he isn’t a wallflower either. He’ll stand up for himself. And if someone is being stupid, he’ll call them out. For instance, when Ulquiorra claimed Ichigo wasn’t a threat. (Reread that scene, and you can tell that Grimmjow is two seconds away from calling Ulquiorra a moron bc YIKES, the emo’s ego is bad.) Ulquiorra is more powerful than him and he isn’t afraid to call him out. He isn’t even afraid to talk back to Tosen, who was superior to all Arrancar and Espada.
Tumblr media
Here, we see that Grimmjow has no problems with speaking. He defends himself. He fights back. But within that exact same scene, when Aizen is involved, he’s completely different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the beginning of the scene, Grimmjow’s head is slightly lowered and he avoids eye contact with Aizen. He doesn’t even match Aizen’s greeting with his own. When he speaks, it’s one word, and only to Tosen. And when he does speak to Aizen, it’s hardly any words at all.
Tumblr media
A small, simple act of defiance. Not long after he starts an argument with Tosen, his defiance and confidence growing until he lashes out after being attacked—however
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grimmjow says nothing. He doesn’t argue. He doesn’t fight back. Not a single word is spoken. Grimmjow isn’t silent under specific conditions, he’s silent around specific people, a.k.a. Aizen.
Here’s another heart-wrenching example of Grimmjow’s selective mutism involving Aizen:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He speaks to Aizen once in this scene, and it takes a moment for him to force it out. And on top of it, Aizen mocks Grimmjow for not speaking. (I also headcanon that Aizen knows of Grimmjow’s condition, and uses it against him often.) To anyone else, Grimmjow says whatever he wanted, but with Aizen, he’s at a loss for words.
As for why Aizen triggers Grimmjow’s mutism, take your pick!
Aizen is unfathomably powerful. He outranks every Espada with ease—it would be stupid not to be afraid of him.
Aizen has control over the Arrancar and high status. He makes a fool out of Grimmjow often to the point that he is a joke to them and not respected. He could easily diminish Grimmjow’s place among the elite.
Aizen reminds Grimmjow of someone from his past human life, and those vibes are so vile and vicious that he automatically falls into a silent state.
(I personally believe it is triggered by intense anxiety or fear of/for a person or persons.)
There are many reasons! Naturally, this is only a headcanon, and there are some flaws, but there’s enough evidence within canon to support the idea. (And I love writing his mutism, honestly.)

Ichigo and Grimmjow have a lot of Yin/Yang shit about them (ex: black/white, orange/blue, Soul Reaper/Hollow, etc), but I really love the things they have in common yet use differently. Like, there are two instances that I can think of:
The title of King
Reason for fighting
Both Ichigo and Grimmjow have been labeled a king, both of them being called such by others and not their own doing. And both were dubbed King by Hollows but that’s neither here nor there. Ichigo never questioned the title, intuitively understanding why his Hollow would call him such a thing, but he didn’t request his Hollow or anyone else to call him by that title. Grimmjow questioned the title at first (thinking that his Fracción had lost their minds) but later on carries the title as a crutch, kinda to give himself meaning. He of course doesn’t ask anyone to call him King, but he wants people to acknowledge/agree that he’s stronger than them, a King. The title has little to no meaning to Ichigo aside from where he stands with his Hollow, and to Grimmjow that title means everything.
This brings me to point two, their reasons for fighting. I don’t technically mean that Ichigo fights for his friends while Grimmjow fights for himself which I honestly don’t believe because the second and third battle they had gave me a lot of revenge vibes from Grimm. I mean why they fight others who could kill them. They both literally fight with “I have to, and I will, win” in mind but with different connotations. Ichigo has to win for others, while Grimmjow has to win for himself. Neither of these are bad reasons to fight, mind you, fighting for others and fighting for yourself are equally good and healthy, except of course they both take it too far, yet again something they have in common. Not to mention they both fight for underlying reasons. Ichigo fights to save and protect others because he feels like he has to make up for, frankly, existing and being “useless”. Grimmjow fights to reassure himself that he isn’t useless, because that boy has some major inferiority complex issues. They also, on rare occasions, fight for each other’s reasons. Grimmjow fought (briefly) to save Orihime, while Ichigo went out of his way to fight Grimmjow to settle things between them (and bc Ichigo always has a compulsive need to know why a person is like that and try to fix them).
Idk guys I just REALLY like that they actually have so much in common. To me it seems like they’re each other’s versions of “What I Could Have Become”.

Listen mothertruckers, I wanna address the excessive amount of laziness in clothing choice Grimmjow has, that people tend to ignore. THIS 👏🏻 BITCH 👏🏻 BE 👏🏻 DEPRESSED 👏🏻 He actively destroys himself on the daily, practically begging to be killed in battle by making the riskiest choices possible when fighting someone (his little spat with Ulquiorra is proof enough), and to top it off his friends die and everyone at work treats him like a joke and his bosses are major dicks. It would be virtually impossible not to be depressed in a situation like that. As someone with major depressive disorder, I can tell you that the urge and need to look good is next to nothing, and when I do feel the urge, I tend to give up when I realize how much effort has to be put into it (and I’m not talking about washing clothes, tho tbh that’s a problem for me). Grimmjow’s depressed ass ain’t gonna be in the mood to make himself look good if it takes that much energy to do so—and let’s be real, he doesn’t exactly scream “I spend three hours getting ready in the morning” while wearing as little clothing as possible aND constantly obsessing over Ichigo, who literally makes him stupid just by looking at him with those big brown eyes. Ik people hc Grimmjow to style his hair, but lemme just say, he looks like he has bed head because he actually has bed head, plus he’s got wavy hair so naturally it’s already putting up a bit of a fight.
Alright, moving onto clothing officially, lets talk about this asshole’s first outfit. Y’know, the one with the tiddy out.
Tumblr media
His hakama is pretty traditional, which really doesn’t have much to it (in my opinion, anyways). I’ve worn them before and honestly that shit is pretty comfy. Considering the story’s location, Grimmjow is used to that type of clothing anyways, so it doesn’t bother him to wear it. Next, bitch ain’t even wearing a shirt. Sure, he’s probably showing off his Hollow hole and how dangerously close it is to his damn pelvis, but still. He’s not hiding shit. Oh, but he is wearing a gd jacket. This fucker has tricked everyone into thinking he’s some fashion icon just bc his hair is messy and cool and he’s wearing a half jacket. What part of this physical example of a mess = “I put effort into everything”.
Now, let’s move on to the next outfit. The one that’s easily sexier than the first bc it’s highly suggestive and teasing, even tho we already know 75% of what’s underneath.
Tumblr media
He’s still rockin’ the half jacket (tho I think the style is slightly different) which is cool. It’s his signature. Hair is still messy, but now a bit longer (bless). Bitch is wearing two belts for no fucking reason. One of them is holding Pantera, I’ll give him that, but this bitch just slaps on two belts bc he knows it’ll make him look cool and has zero impact on his laziness. They’re loose, so if that bastard can even actually piss (I’m honestly too scared to even fathom how Hollow digestion works) dude just pulls it out no problem. Also, not pictured, some pretty simple boots. No tough laces or anything. Looks good but no hassel. As for the main point in this—HE’S WEARING A FUCKING JUMPSUIT. ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING. HE LOOKS GOOD BUT THAT SHIT IS LAZY. IT’S PRACTICALLY OVERALLS. HE AIN’T SPENDING TIME ON NOTHING.
Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing fanart and Kubo’s art of Grimmjow wearing fashionable and complicated outfits (shit looks good and the bitch looks hot) but 98% of the time this guy is just barely treading the line of fashionable. He makes it look effortless bc it IS. He just gets one or two things that looks together and slaps them on and calls it good. He could literally slap on sweatpants, a sleeveless jacket, and a lame t-shirt with some sneakers and he’d look fantastic like he WANTED to look like he’s about to go on a jog or play basketball or about to beat the shit out of a punching bag bc he hits an aesthetic just right. This is why I always write this fucker as a sloppy dresser. There’s no way in hell he wouldn’t try to find the most comfortable thing to wear but with just enough style to hide his depression.
Bonus:
Tumblr media
I’m sorry but either he’s wearing spandex or a cat onesie and ya can’t change my mind. Also I wrote this at 2 am my life is a mistake

People claim Grimmjow to be stupid and write him like he’s an idiot and I’m just like?????? I mean, these pages alone completely debunk that misconception

Like……Grimmjow gave Kisuke Urahara—who is one of the smartest, if not the smartest person in Bleach—advice on how to use his own damn powers. Come on, people. In what universe is Grimmjow not intelligent?

Okay, so I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while now. I’m not saying it’s canon because I’m not Kubo or anything, BUT there is a chance Grimmjow could be trans!!! I’ve got three points:
1. Grimmjow’s adjuchas form:
Alright, so we know his form was/is a panther…that’s pretty obvious…but panther is actually a broad term for big cats, most commonly used for black leopards. Many people equate Grimmjow with leopards, but the features of leopards are too well rounded and not as defined as his. For an example, here’s the similarities between his adjuchas form and lionesses!
Tumblr media
Rounded ears. Prominent noses. The obvious brows and a bump on the head. Plus the thicker build. Okay, now onto point 2!
2. Pantera and Fraccion

Honestly tbh Grimmjow is suicidal as fuck to me. This scene especially stands out. I don’t think he intends to get himself killed, but he has little concern for himself. He cares about his pride and his reputation, but he doesn’t give a shit about himself outside of that. Grimmjow is the embodiment of one of ten types of death, Destruction. A pretty broad term. So yeah, he destroys friends and allies and enemies—everyone blocking his path—but he also destroys himself.
Grimmjow’s fighting technique is simply “fight until one or both of us is dead”. Retreating or finishing a battle on a draw is not an option for him. Ulquiorra outranks him. It’s doubtful that if the two had an all-out brawl Grimmjow would be triumphant. Grimmjow acknowledges this. He doesn’t say that he’ll kick Ulquiorra’s ass, he simply states, “You’re scared of fighting me…scared of ripping us both to shreds.” It’s a fight he can’t win, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t drag Ulquiorra down with him. It’s like Grimmjow has a twisted version of Ichigo’s “I have to win.” He’ll win at any cost. Even his own life.
Then we have Grimmjow’s fighting style. Ulquiorra aimed a cero point blank at his head and instead of using that split second to escape, he uses that time to direct a cero right back, both of them releasing a cero at the same time. Of course we know the ceros clash and mix together to create a fused blast of spiritual pressure that attacks BOTH Ulquiorra and Grimmjow. His arm is burned and bleeding—the result of which Grimmjow anticipated. Granted he used the debris as cover to trap Ulquiorra, but there a billion different distractions he could’ve used that would’ve worked efficiently and cause him no harm.
Time and time again Grimmjow is presented with safer routes and he always goes for the complex and self-harming.
And I wrote this at like 4 am and yeah

So, I love the fuck outta Grimmjow. That much is obvious to anyone who’s been following me for at least a day. One of the things I love MOST about Grimmjow is his face. (Yeah, yeah, he’s good looking and handsome and yada yada, that’s not what I’m talking about.) Legit, when the name Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez is spoken most people think of this:
Tumblr media
A powerful and violent, always-grinning douchebag. That’s the face people think of when they hear his name.
But most of the time he looks like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Calm, collected, and largely disinterested/uninvested. You seriously can’t get a read on him. There’s no way to know what he’s thinking unless he actually speaks his mind (which he does if it matters that much to him). But he’s actually incredibly calm and quiet???? It’s so weirdly normal????? I love that??? The only time he ever really smiles is when he’s about to fight someone or he’s pissing someone off.
I like Grimmjow’s iconic grin, don’t get me wrong, but I just really love the hell outta his normal expression because it’s just so calm and normal for a dude who constantly wants to kick ass.

Hello! Like many of you, I love Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez. On my other blog, I have made many posts analyzing Grimmjow’s character. So I finally decided to make a whole blog for it! This is a blog dedicated to annotating and analyzing the character Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez. I will be posting my headcanons for Grimm, as well as reblogging others. I totally encourage you to send asks about my opinions on your hcs, or any hc concerning our boy. You can totally ask for an analysis on a certain scene he’s involved in, an aspect of his character, or anything that comes to your mind! ter, or anything that comes to your mind! (This also includes any pairing you may ship him with. I’m not excluding any ships from these annotations!) This blog is a way for me to relax and relieve stress, but also a way for me to exercise my understanding of characters and how to build a believable one.
