Hufflepup Ch 2 - Intervention

Harry had never experienced the slowing of time before. Perhaps he could blame the pensieve for shifts in temporal perception. All the heads in the room - two Head of House heads, a referee head, a Headmaster head and the family heads - swung towards Harry in slow motion, each soft clink of Dumbledore’s instruments akin to hammer striking anvil. And in that moment where time stretched slower than stale chewing gum, Harry realized two things: 1) His unvocalized desire to snog Ginevra Weasley until she forgot her loss, her house and her own name had made an unauthorized leap over the introvert fence in a bid for vocal actualization. 2) Vocal chords engaged in vocal actualization produced perceptible sound. “Shite.”

On April 19th, Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department will be released. However, on Tuesday, April 16th, I will be hosting a mini several sunlit daylights fest (aka taylor swift/hinny fest): The Tortured Potters Department.

Auror Potter and the Golden Snidget - because Hobby did not satisfy my "Harry-throws-Ginny-into-jail" fic cravings.

Squib Ginny - Nothing much here - several pages of sad kids, but I'm not sure what I'm saying with this piece that I'm not already saying with QifL, so it's languishing.

Scenes I'm excited to write:

QifL - I've written nine chapters I haven't posted yet - some with Harry scenes I'm dying to share. What I haven't written yet is the knockdown, drag-it-out final showdown between Ginny's Best Self and Less-Than-Best Self.

Hufflepup - Each scene is riot to write. This is going slower because I have to be in the zone for chaotic comedy that strives for heart. Every bloody character in this story believes he or she is the lead - I have newly-discovered love for Remadora, Jily is demanding attention and Harry keeps poking me and checking his watch. I need everyone else to shut up so Harry can snog Ginny.

Untitled Romcom - My backup to my backup project - I meant to start something romantic and silly for hinny- but it got sad when it was supposed to be smutty. It does have Sirius-Ginny hijinks though; they're a platonic vibe I adore writing and don't have much opportunity.

Auror Potter and the Golden Snidget - He's gonna throw her in jail three times. Three different slammer scenes.

Squib Ginny - Ginny takes piano lessons from Mrs Figg. That's the scene I wanna write, think I can nail it.

have you abandoned TIBs?

Hello Anon,

No. I have not abandoned my story.

I’ve poured hours - not to mention tears, laughter, frustration, long nights, elation - into this story and I won’t abandon it. That’s not me.

This story might take me longer to finish than I once thought given life circumstance and feeling so burnt out after getting through the last Hinny chapters. So I’m taking some well deserved time to decompress before organizing the last series of chapters.

Honestly, receiving this ask makes me feel sad. It feels a bit demoralizing. Particularly since it’s only been a month since I last posted and I typically take that amount of time otherwise.

Having said that, the next one is in progress but will take me some time.

Here's a *sneak peak* at Chapter 26 of TIBs: Take It Away (Hermione POV).

Why didn’t he seem to be struggling like she was in this moment? Would he ever take an opportunity to tell her how he felt about her? Maybe he was thinking about what to say right now? If she stopped walking and turned to him, would he say something? Would he kiss her? “My arse is sore,” Ron said, rubbing his backside and interrupting her thoughts. “That match took too bloody long.” Hermione felt her anticipation deflate and shame leaking in to take its place. Of course he hadn't come close to kissing her, let alone forming intentional thoughts of her. She shot him an icy glare and sped up.

Chapter Update: The In-Between's (6th Year)

Enough Nerve (Part 2)

“I can’t believe I did that,” Harry said. Ginny was grinning up at him. Even though it was darker in the corridor, her face seemed to glow bright and drive out all thought from his brain. He’d stopped and turned to her when the portrait door closed to make sure she was still happy, that she wouldn’t push him away and run the other direction for kissing her in front of the whole common room.  ”Took you long enough,” she said, closing the gap between them and reaching for his arms. His mind stalled, his heart was pounding against his chest, so much so that he thought it might break free.   “I know, I’m sorry,” he rushed out. “I ran up here as fast as I could.”  Ginny threw her head back and laughed.  “Not that, Harry,” she said and reached around his shoulders to pull him down into another kiss.  It was softer than before. More intentional, but not necessarily tentative,  because the way her lips pressed against his felt very new and he’d do anything not to fuck this up. He felt clumsy. Before he could figure out whether he was allowed to or not, his hands found her waist, like something out of his dreams. But she didn’t seem to mind because she was tilting her head back and pulling him closer and nothing had ever felt so good. She smelled like the wind, the way she usually did after flying, mixed with those traces of floral scent that have been driving him mad for months. “Oh,” he said, connecting her words, and pulling back enough to take a breath. “You mean long enough to kiss you?” A voice from above startled them apart. Harry only caught the last few words of the Fat Lady’s stern request to split up and show some decency in “this public passageway.” “Erm - sorry - we’ll just -,” Harry started as Ginny’s eyes narrowed at the Fat Lady with a strangely vindictive look on her face.   “It’s only public if you’re looking,” Ginny said.

i'm so curious about your hermione wip! she has such a tragic and nebulous story in dh that leaves a lot of room for character arc; i'd love any hints you feel like offering :)

Yes!

I've always loved Hermione's character. When I joined the fandom, I was surprised to see negative takes on her character, although I do understand where they come from. She has flaws, can be aloof and disagreeable, almost hypocritical.

However, my take is that she is vulnerable. More so than the others despite being intelligent and high achieving. She lacks full self-awareness. She's not conscious of how her words and actions impact her friends and why that matters.

I've written TIBs in such a way that at the end of HBP, she's at least more aware of the benefits and downfalls of her somewhat contradictory nature. This emotional work is a major theme of her and Ginny's relationship in TIBs, and why I think they work so well as friends. As Ginny comes into her own, she is able to call Hermione out while giving her grace and patience in such a way that Hermione doesn't go into defensive mode like she often does with the boys.

Getting her to a place where she recognizes her flaws and vulnerabilities is one thing, but then contending with them and growing is another. She doesn't always get it right, and that is what the DH story will center around. As well as more of my missing moment headcanons through DH.

It's going to be a 5 chapter story (long chapters). One chapter for each season of DH - summer 97 through summer 98 exploring themes like...

Coming of age in difficult circumstances

Female revolutionary

Emotional growth and intelligence - how bravery, loyalty, and love can look different for certain people

Her friendship with Harry

Some Romione

She's a complicated character, and I don't think she's as innately "righteous" as Harry or the Weasleys. However, that's in part why she's so interesting to me. I believe that's one reason she's drawn to Ron romantically, is that he is a beacon of that loyalty, friendship, humor, and innate *goodness* that she has to work so hard to get right.

Probably more than you asked for - but I'm excited to work on this one!

LOL - I don't remember if I mentioned it! It started as a pile of discarded Harry and Ginny flirting that was deleted from TIBs, and grew into a thing I tinker with sometimes.

This is super rough sketch, but @ginnyw-potter asked for a snippet as well 💖

“Hey, Ginny, here’s the next two weeks of Quidditch practice,” he said, handing her the schedule. They were able to get more time on the pitch this time, as the only match left was Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw. 

Between the next class, she handed him a paper back. This time with a note scribbled on it.

McGonagall told me if I didn’t score at least 15 goals this match, she’ll take points off my Transfiguration essay. Should I tell Mum I am the subject of extortion?

Oh! I just had a thought about Chapter 24 that I didn't put in my comment - I loved Ron's reaction to Ginny's conversation with Hermione in the common room. Will we get a Ron POV on after The Kiss? I would so love to read your take on this:-)

After Harry and Ginny have some alone time in Chapter 25, we’ll see how the rest of the party in the common room goes from Hermione’s POV in Chapter 26, and who better to shape up the celebrations than Gryffindor’s two favorite prefects? 🥳 So Ron will have the chance to speak his mind 🧡

Enough Nerve (Part 1)

It was true, this wasn’t how anything was supposed to go. But again, that wasn’t Harry’s fault. And the cup - standing resolute in its resplendence, fixing her with its gaze like a directed beam of light - couldn’t be won on disappointment.

It didn’t care about Tom, Malfoy, Cho, or any other number of evils at Hogwarts. All it was concerned with was the score, and who had enough grit to fight for the title.
