I think major oversimplification of Taylor and yb’s relationship would be him saying ‘I like you even when you’re sad’ when they met and then over the years her having to ask herself if he liked her when she wasn’t
i think this is definitely part of it, but it’s not only an oversimplification - it’s also missing some pieces.

i know a lot of people have mentioned this, but i’m just obsessed with the way taylor refused to sanitize herself on this album. she’s telling you everything. she got off to gross men whilst already in another relationship. she fell for the most obvious lies because she wanted to believe them. she was mad at anyone who tried to warn her. yes, she’s still mad at you for clutching your pearls and watching her like a circus animal btw. she’s having his baby—no she’s not! she just likes trolling. she does really want babies, though. like a lot. she felt like she’d been abducted by aliens and found cosmic love, but in reality, she was manic. and then he fucking ghosted her! and he didn’t even measure up in any measure of a man!!!!! and now she’s devastated by him and his predecessor! she feels like a wondrous prophet one day and the desperate victim of a curse the next. btw he knows how to ball and she knows aristotle. and fuck kim k! also man sex with certain men kinda fucked her up, but at least the writing that came from it defined her legacy. the manuscript isn’t hers anymore. she hopes this insane ass manuscript won’t have to be hers, either! free her of these stories.

I think this album shows how much Taylor wants to be loved and feel appreciated; she felt like Joe didn’t love her or at least didn’t show her love at the end, MH gave her that type of attention; she didn’t love him she loved the attention and promises he was giving
yes, major theme - the joe stuff was the catalyst for the matty stuff, if that makes sense. but it also goes back further than that ("he said 'i'm not a donor but i'd give you my heart if you needed it,' she rolled her eyes and said, 'you're a professional,' he said, 'no, just a good samaritan'"). like all these men acting like they were doing her favors instead of actually caring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you told me last year we’d get TS11 very soon and it would have songs about aliens, masturbation, an NFL player, taylor comparing herself to jesus, matty healy, fake pregnancy, and the state of florida……

also for better or for worse no one can convince me that “the sickest army doll, purchased at the mall” isn’t a reference to reputation era taylor

i think something that people are missing about this album is how she's playing with expectation vs reality. so much of her obsession with matty had to do with this idea of she had of him in her head but when they actually got together it was just disappointing. neither of them lived up to their expectations of each other and the entire illusion collapsed. it just took her longer to realize it and he wasn't mature enough to end it with her so he ran
this is what you get in the contrast (lyrical/emotional but also sonic!!!) between tracks 6-9, which are floaty and joyful and fast and exciting and new, and tracks 10-14, which are dark and grim and brutal and painful

“i respond to extreme pain with defiance” // “so there's lines about feeling like i’ve been in the circus, those kinds of metaphors, or feeling like i’m sort of like a witch in a haunted house. those are some ways that i feel sometimes when i’m not able to kind of right the ship and cope with my normal coping mechanisms.” // “i’m still on that trapeze, still trying everything”

forgive me for being this dark. but all these people saying Taylor Swift is too perfect and too privileged to suffer would have pitied her and championed her as an underdog if she had successfully killed herself like she said she wanted to over and over on TTPD.
Movies would have been made about the last few years leading up to her death, they’d make theories about whose fault it REALLY is, they’d shame and scold each other for how they treated her, comparing her to Marilyn Monroe and Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse. And she would be dead just the same. And they would learn nothing.
They’re playing Drown The Witch. If she lives, her life isn’t that bad. If she dies, oh my god, she was suffering, we should’ve known.

The theme of suicidal thoughts and fantasies has been present in Taylor's music for a while now, so I wasn't surprised by how strong it is in TTPD because I was expecting it tbh. What DID take me by surpise was the amount of murder references lol, should we call it homicidal idealization? It's part of what makes listening to this album feel similar to watching a horror film.

Bbffr this is THE REBOUND album 😭
it’s literally like not only the story of the rebound but also a musing on why she’s like this and how she wants to try to get it to stop LIKE

There's something to be said for girlhood being lost and taken so young (the manuscript) and boyhood being clung to until the end of forever (Peter)

you know I think sometimes maybe Taylor thinks we love her because she’s like a “role model” and good advice giver or something, like if you listen to dear reader, but what I think she maybe does not always remember or know is that we love her not because we think she’s perfect or a guiding light, but because she’s just like us…human!!! imperfect, contradictory, passionate, messy, hopeful, reflective, depressed, daydreamy, bitter, unsure … and the only difference between her and us is that she puts all things all we go through into music. Music that we can listen to and adopt and relate to and not feel so weird and lonely about ourselves

I think Joe knew a certain version of Taylor. Who was more afraid, less trusting, didn’t want to go out as much or claim her spot. But as she healed and the pandemic ended, she grew away from that, and he stayed where he was. And then trying to hold onto him while claiming the life she wanted caused her to be depressed bc she felt like she had to choose, and kill herself to be with him.
sad but true (and isn’t this exactly what we saw happen? and what we discussed? from the get go?)

no but can we talk about society’s obsession with romantic love and downgrading any other kind of love?? Like prioritize your friendships, your family members, your neighbors, your community and you won’t HAVE to put all that weight in a romantic relationship. One person cannot fulfill allllll your emotional needs
no lie, one of my niche interests (that i talk about a lot irl with friends) is how society prioritizes romantic love, and also how society teaches women (who are in relationships with men) that romantic love is basically abusive. isn't it interesting than women are taught that their primary relationships should be with their husbands and family? people they take care of? friendships are for people with free time and independence. but, primarily, women should be concerned with being the support system of their spouse, children, and any other family (like parents or siblings) that need them. that way men have the time to do things out of the home.
