How did you shoot at Vaulted Willow?? That’s such a high traffic and public area, so scary! 😬
For those that don't know The Vaulted Willow is a piece of public art in a busy public park next to an even busier street in Edmonton.
I'm assuming the questioner is referring to some nude photos I took of a model there.
The short answer is: carefully.
The longer answer is: While both the model and myself were totally comfortable with nudity (I firmly believe that a naked person isn't inherently sexual), and being topless is perfectly allowable in Edmonton, things get dicey legally when you take your pants off in public. Further to that, I wouldn't actually want to expose someone to that who wasn't consenting to it, especially a kid. So, we actually shot in a bunch of spots around the park before we went to the Willow. The model had a small white dress on for those shots and was going commando underneath. We shot during rush hour on a weekday, which was a calculated risk. There would be more street traffic but far less people in the park at that time. The sculpture is mostly shielded from the street by trees so it'd be pretty hard for anyone to see anything offensive from the road.
When the coast was clear, the model tossed her dress to me and I kept it draped over my shoulder strap so I could toss it back to her if needed, and then we worked quickly. We did a few different poses inside the sculpture and she was probably naked for less than 3 minutes in total. It gets the adrenaline pumping though.
