figure it out (f.w.)
Pairing: Fred Weasley x Fem!Reader
Warnings: Angst, like one swear, asshole Fred
Summary: Y/N and Fred get paired for an assignment after they break up.
A/N: I have been wanting to read to an angst about this topic for a while so I just decided to write one myself! :)
“Y/N” Fred’s voice broke the silence in the library.
I swallowed thickly, desperately trying to ignore the red-head calling my name. I focused all my attention on the tattered potions textbook splayed out on the desk in front of me.
“Y/N,” He tried again. “We’ve been here for over an hour. C’mon, we can’t finish the assignment if you don’t talk to me.”
“Because you care so much about school work.” I snorted under my breath, not breaking my eye contact with the textbook page.
Fred laughed softy at my remark, “Yeah, I really don’t.”
I glanced at him to see him grinning down at me. His lazy, lopsided smile used to be one of my favorite sights in the world. He extended his long leg so it brushed against mine. I sighed as I looked down at our touching knees. Quiet moments like these were the rest of world seemed to fade away were what I missed the most over these past few weeks without Fred.
“But you do.” Fred said, pulling me out of my thoughts. “So, I want us to get a good grade.”
A small smile tugged at the corner of my lips as felt the tall boy readjust his seat so he was closer to me. For a moment, it felt like things had never changed. Like we were still together.
“Maybe,” Fred started. “You could take the lead on this one?”
“What do you mean?” I asked softy.
“You were always better at potions.” He smiled at me. “It was one of the things I always thought was so cute about you.”
Fred reached out and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. His hand lingered near my face before gently running his fingers along my jaw until it found a resting position on my chin. He slowly lifted my head so I was looking him in the eye.
“You would be able to handle this assignment without me, right, darling?”
“I-I guess,” I mumbled out dreamily.
Fred’s thumb ghosted over lips before he slid his hand to cup my jaw once again. “That’s my girl,” He praised, his voice barely above a whisper. Our eyes locked for the first time since we broke up. I searched his face for the glow of warmth that once exuded off of him and made me feel like the only person in the room when he looked at him. However, this time I could not find it. His stare was cold and distant.
Suddenly, Fred broke away from me and began to pack away his belongings, mumbling about all the things he plans to do with his newly found free time. His voice drowned out in my ears as all the pain and sadness Fred had caused me began to flood my mind.
I laughed coldly as the realization of what just happened hit me. “I’m not going to let you do this. Not this time.”
“Do what?” Fred questioned, slightly amused. He turned in his seat to face me.
“Use me.” I huffed, growing more frustrated by the second. “Like you always have.”
“Woah,” Fred laughed. “You’ve got an attitude. What is your problem today, babe?”
“My problem?” I snapped, pushing away from the table. “My problem is that you are a heartless dick, Weasley.”
“Y/N, please,” Fred said grabbing my wrist. I quickly jerked away from his touch as if it burned me. “Just calm down. You’re overreacting.”
“No,” I spat. “You don’t get to do this, Fred. You don’t get to act like I’m the bad guy. You broke up with me. And now you are using me.”
My throat started to burn as hot, angry tears threatened to spring from my eyes. I quickly gathered up my books and began to storm away from the table.
“Y/N, wait!” Fred called after me looking completely dumbfounded. “What about our assignment?”
“You’re a big boy.” I shouted as I pushed my way through the doors of the library. “Figure it out yourself.”
