Why did Orpheus turn?
Assured of his many talents
Raised and beloved by muses
Using his voice as a shield of men
Already confident in his love’s devotion
Now acquainted with the pathway to hell—
Tread only for the sake of others
Just a few more steps until he’d won
How could such a man falter in faith
Certainly not from doubts in Eurydice
But maybe some in the demons left below
And what joy they would truly allow him
Maybe he couldn’t help but feel
The pull of the underworld calling him back
Now that it couldn’t be unseen
And it was that abyss he was looking for
As he gazed right through the pale
Fading light of Eurydice’s eyes
This love had triumphed over nature
But perhaps his own steps into the light
Became his sole focus and he forgot
The journey was made for partnership
For what is the purpose
Taking such a steep risk
Painstakingly climbing in tandem
Investing in the future with each step
Learning how to transport a soul
What was it all for if in the end
He was still alone with no one to blame
But his impulses that he valued higher
Than giving Eurydice time
To find her own light next to his
I worry what will become of him
Where he will wander and who he will meet
Whether he will keep his head
Without me there to hold him together
But Persephone chides me to remember
It was he who cast me back to hell
All the worse because of how far
We’d traveled to escape it
She says I was placed in the back
Because there was never a doubt
I would catch him each time he stumbled
Even if I wasn’t yet solid again myself
Down here I’m becoming something new
Or maybe I’m returning to what I once was
I could feel the change swallowing me
The second he turned around
Eurydice as she was can keep her Orpheus
Forever linked in earthly memory
I will embrace the life I’m finding in death
And bathe in the glow of a million souls
Not get lost in the shadow of one

Can we talk about the fact that when obi wan was listing off the qualities Leia got from Anakin he listed the ones that were so commonly seen as problems to the Jedi. To them he was too outspoken, too reckless, and felt too deeply. But not to obi wan. He names the qualities that made padmé fall in love with Anakin in the first place and the qualities that always made him so proud. He sees Anakin as passionate because he loves deeply and hard, not because he was too attached. He calls him fearless because he was ready to do anything to help others, not because he was reckless. And he sees him as forthright because he stood for what he believed, always, not because he was outspoken or out of place. Obi wan doesn't see these qualities as flaws, but gifts and calls them that to Leia so she knows that they aren't to be ashamed of and that she should be as proud of those qualities as Anakin was, and I think that's so beautiful.

lighting changes in Kenobi pt VI as indicators of the shifts between Anakin/Vader
blue — the color typically associated with the light side and even his old lightsaber indicates that it’s Anakin talking (further evidenced by the solid color of his eyes here vs the Sith yellow)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
red— the shift to red, the traditional Sith color, indicating the shift to Vader as Anakin succumbs to his suffering (further evidenced by the shift to his Sith eyes here)

Yk what kills me about this. Obi-Wan really had every right to be just as angry at the clones as Kanan did. Yes he was older and he didn’t witness his master being murdered in front of him BY THE CLONES ANYWAY, but he lost literally every single one of his friends on the Council (aside from Yoda) to Order 66 and Palpatine. Order 66 almost killed him too. He heard Cody asking for confirmation of his death almost immediately after getting shot down. He had to kill members of the 501st just to survive Coruscant and change the signal being broadcasted out of the temple. And then he sees a clone for the first time in 10 years. The face that he first fought in the rain all those years ago on Kamino. The face of his Commander. The face of Anakin’s Captain. The face of every single clone that he’d fought side by side with for an entire war, the faces that he knew killed the closest people he had to a family. And what does Obi-Wan do? He does not ignore him, he does not show any signs of bitterness nor resentment. He gives him money. Maybe in doing so he silently thanks every single clone that ever died for him, maybe he sees a bit of himself in an old beaten down veteran who was once the face of goodness and hope and everything the Old Republic stood for, scavenging in the streets and just trying to survive. Perhaps for Obi-Wan, it’s getting to say goodbye to the friends he maybe never really knew why he lost. Or maybe it really was just Obi-Wan, for the billionth time, being so selfless and kind when almost nobody in his shoes could have done the same.

We’re all fucking broken right now and being traumatized daily by our present hellscape. Seeing Obi Wan broken and living under a fascist oppressive regime is a key component to studying how he emerges from that. You can’t put him through the clone wars and the events of Ep III and then just keep him as his snarky smily self with nowhere to grow. Heroes are heroes because they push back against the odds, showing us how to as well in the process. Sometimes the odds stacked against us are the struggles in our own minds, or situations and systems way out of our control/influence. How do you contribute to the lives of those around you in spite of that? Kenobi demonstrates that beautifully.

IDK what fans this journalist is talking to because the tumblr girlies are thrilled seeing broken Obi-wan

Leia and Obi-Wan both being survivors of a genocide of their people suddenly hit me.
The diaspora of both Alderaanians and the Jedi. I wonder if Leia thought about the stories of General Kenobi and her days with Ben. How this person she later names her son after who she knows is strong crumpled after his loss, but how she gets to see some of him heal standing beside her. And her comforting Luke on the day when Ben dies, her father and mother die, and her planet is destroyed because she remembers that it was compassion that healed Ben. Both receiving it and giving it.

But we were being taught that, y’know, cause the fight coordinator on this studied all those films. So all these moves that sometimes were just us throwing a little twirl in, they’ve studied it and think it’s a real thing.

Okay, everyone in the US needs to look at what's happening right now and analyze it like you would a list of events from a history textbook:
Children are stolen from their families, locked in "detention centers."
A president attempts a coup, but he is not impeached. The people who took part in the attempted coup are given sentences of anywhere from a few months to a few years. Nowhere near what one would expect for people who committed treason.
There are numerous laws put in place to limit voting even more than it was already limited.
There are laws passed to discriminate against entire groups of people, and a main political party calls human beings abominations.
The highest court rules that convicted criminals have no right to introduce new evidence, even if it proves the "criminal" innocent."
The highest court rules that police cannot be sued for not informing someone of their right.
The highest court says that they intend to take away bodily autonomy from women, children, trans men, nonbinary people, agender people, intersex people, gender fluid people, and other gender nonconforming people.
If I was reading this about a country in a history textbook, I would clearly be able to see that the country was losing any semblance to a democracy. If this was a novel, I would be shouting at the main character to wake up. What do you think?

While I also find this hilarious, it’s ultimately so tragic- Anakin turned to the dark side almost directly as a backlash to the constant Jedi insistence on controlling his feelings, attachments, and fears. Yet even now at the height of his dark side power, he is once again having those same emotions and desires curtailed. What a horrible path to have gone down only to find himself back where he started.
I’m sorry but the darksiders being so fucking done with Vader’s absolute unhinged galaxy rending obsession over Obi-Wan is the funniest thing in the world. The Grand Inquisitor and Sidious both side eyeing him and being like bro can you fucking CHILL is absolutely riotous. The judgement, the exasperation from them.
Anakin foaming at the mouth and shrieking and crushing planets to dust writhing in his Obisession—
Sidious—I can’t believe I’m saying this but have you thought of LETTING GO?

Even just seeing dumb little tumblr gifs of this scene has me breaking down in agonizing tears.
anakin's real voice mixed with the modulator
obi-wan saying 'anakin' and begging for forgiveness
anakin telling obi-wan he was not his failure but his own and that he killed himself
vader calling obi-wan his master
obi-wan finally letting anakin go and acknowledging he was 'dead' and killed by darth vader
obi-wan unable to deliver the killing blow when he cracked his mask and saw anakin's face, his true self under the mask, and was reduced to tears
anakin screaming obi-wan's name as he walked away from him again

“Do you really want Anakin dead?”
Silence.
It’s been nearly a decade since Anakin’s betrayal. Years of Obi-Wan struggling to accept that his former Padawan slaughtered their family. And even after witnessing the horrors that Vader is capable of, Obi-Wan still cannot say that he wants the boy he raised dead. It’s a painful, awful love. A deeply cursed love that cannot be escaped, and this episode gutted me for showing us their gentle smiles of before, and the frightening hatred that pervades their relationship now.
