Thrilling update, we have seen all three of the main musicals!!

NPMD was her favorite! She thought it was the funniest and had the best music (based of her ik), and she liked it a lot! Steph was her favorite in that show!

Emma Perkins is her favorite character, she said that TGWDLM had the saddest ending because she felt like Emma and Paul deserved their happy ending :(

Black Friday amused her but it was her least favorite. She didn't vibe with most of the character and I think that's why; however she claims that Hannah Foster is a reference to "The Wizard," which was one of her favorite movies when she was younger. Ik Starkid does a lot of pop culture references, so I'm curious to see if anyone else noticed that or if it's just her!

We did not end up watching Nightmare Time, but I told her about some of the relevant lore and she said it sounded interesting!

Some of her favorite jokes were:

"I want you to choke me while I jerk off" (TGWDLM) The Obama impression (BF) The scene where Emma coughed blood on Paul and said "Ok, byeeeeeeeee" afterwards (TGWDLM) Literally any of the bullying scenes (NPMD) "Are you a woman of faith?" "Catholic." "I'll take that as a no." (NPMD) Richie as the mascot. Just in general. (NPMD)

Overall, she liked them a lot and she said she would be interested in seeing more Starkid shows if I think she would like em.

I'm just going to say it, I think a lot of people misunderstand Steph's motivations!

It's true that she's sweet and protective of the people she loves, but this girl is also fueled by SPITE. She likes proving people wrong, she likes to get reactions from people with her snarky comments, and she really, really likes getting reactions from people who have irritated her.

Going back to Abstinence Camp, there's several of examples of this. Upon arriving to the camp she doesn't want to be at, she asks for a blue shirt instead of a pink one, trying to stir up problems. Wearing a blue shirt, as a girl, at an EXTREMELY Christian camp? That was 100% spiteful, and I love it. She was snarky towards Boy Jerry when he was leading a craft, because she was unhappy about being there. Not to mention, she intentionally broke the rules at camp, smuggling in sweets because she wasn't supposed to. A lot of that was her way of quietly rebelling: sure, she couldn't control if she was there or not, but she could control her experience there.

The biggest example from Abstinence Camp, though, is her scene with Pete in the shower-house. Of course, she did actively like him, she genuinely did want to be with him, but that's not the only reason she wanted to hook up with him. She's mad off of her recent interaction with Grace, and she went into the shower-house in the first place specifically to get to Grace. Once she's in there, she sees Pete, and it's kind of the perfect circumstance. She's at Abstinence Camp. She wants to defy the rules by not abstaining! And here's this guy she likes. The idea of doing that probably felt really good at the time.

That being said I do think her relationship with Peter is very sweet in that episode...like, idk, they get along in such a cute way, and you can tell they're mutually attracted to each other. She's doing it spitefully but she also wants him, I love it, I love their dynamic so much. This is in no way related to my point I just really believe in Abstinence Camp Lautski supremacy.

Going into NPMD, the other big example also has to do with Pete! We know she wanted to defend Pete after he got beat up, and of course part of that was because she cares about him and is angry that he's hurt. But I want to point out that Max's motivation to beat Pete up was that Max didn't think that Steph should be hanging out with Pete. That was what pushed her from feeling sorry for Pete to being angry and wanting to get back at Max. One of her big motivators for pranking him was absolutely spite. Who is he to hurt Peter? Who is he to control her? As Steph said, "Who does he think he is?"

Also when I think about it, when she told Pete about her C+ she said "My dad couldn't believe it," and that could be seen as her bragging about doing something her dad didn't believe she could do!

I hope this makes sense to ya'll, I literally love Stephanie Lauter so much and I think this is a really interesting facet of her

Hearing about the potential future of Hatchetfield feels almost overwhelming. I'm a little relieved to hear that Starkid's next full length musical is going to be something new. I ADORE Hatchetfield with my whole entire heart, but I think it's important to keep creating other things, too!

In my opinion, I would love to see Nightmare Time 3. A lot of the story ideas sound really good, and I really, REALLY love Nightmare Time. There's still a lot that could/should be explored, and it sounds like the potential episodes address all the remaining questions I have! But after that, I think it might be for the best to end the series there. It's always best to end on a high note instead of dragging something on until it's overdone and incomprehensible. I think it's good to stick with threes. Three full length musicals, and three seasons of Nightmare Time. PLENTY of content, and a lot of concepts that were able to get fleshed out.

I hope the best for the series, and I will absolutely be following it as long as they create more content. This has been one of my biggest interests for YEARS, it just means SO much to me. I think that's part of why I hope they can find a good time to end it with purpose. The series deserves that. I would hate to see such an amazing series drag on too long, losing an audience in the process. It would really, really suck to see that! I hope that the ending can be intentional and meaningful, as full of love and care as the rest of the series is.

Steph and Peter are actually so "First Love/Late Spring" coded

"So please hurry, leave me, I can't breathe Please don't say you love me."

Every time I see Pete coming to terms with his death and talking Steph through it, I think of these lyrics. He wants her to do it while he's ready, it hurts to hear that she loves him too, and it hurts to think of what could have been. That scene kills me every time, the line of "If I really, really did love you, you'd have to say-" "I know." That just fits in so well with what I'm thinking, GAH!!

I think this song also also applies to Steph, admittedly in another verse:

"And I was so young, when I behaved twenty five Yet now I find I've grown into a tall child And I don't wanna go home yet Let me walk to the top of the big night sky"

I just think that fits her really well, specifically looking at the angle of her emotional state after her dad dies... her ENTIRE life was flipped upside down, and this is really when we see her start to lose her cool girl personality, becoming more fearful and alert. Idk I just like thinking about it :( guys I love Steph she's so heart emoji

Right! Like if Richie and Ruth were still alive, I would also think it was kind of ridiculous that Pete values Steph more. But really, that late in the show, who else would it be? Maaaaybe a family member (Pete does seem to care a lot about Ted on a subtextual level, and we don't know a ton about Steph's familial relationships), but the much more interesting option is the one that they went with. Pete and Steph, the budding relationship that has grown quite endearing to the audience. That's gonna hurt WAY more than some other person who they also care about!

I was actually really surprised that Ms. Holloway didn't show up in NPMD. Maybe this was just me, but I thought that she was going to be the person who taught them about The Lords in Black. Killer Track would have set that up so well, putting her as a counselor at Hatchetfield High. I really thought she would be important in this musical! It would make sense for her to immediately identify the threat and help the kids neutralize it.

That being said, that was in a different timeline, and perhaps in this one she never had to restart as Ms. Holiday. I like Solomon Lauter's role, and how he was fully aware of the supernatural forces in Hatchetfield. It made a lot of sense that the mayor was familiar with situations like this, I'm just a diehard Ms. Holloway fan and I would have loved to see her join forces with my favorite protagonists.
