Wolverinekit is asking Johnygill how kittens are made.

Mothkit is talking to Wolverinekit.

March, 1649

Wolverinekit was walking around the camp, and suddenly, a question sparked in his head. How kittens were made? Usually a pair of cats has them when they love each other, but- there are couples who don’t feel a lot to each other.

And who was the best cat to ask this question to? One who had kittens, of course. Kitten trotted to Johnygill, who was sitting near nursery for already quite some time just grooming his pelt.

Wolverinekit:

- Dad? - he asked, with medicine cat immediately switching his gaze to his son.

Johnygill:

- Anything wrong honey?

Wolverinekit:

- How kittens are made?

Johnygill immediately felt uncomfortable after this question was asked. He tried to look away, avoiding his kit’s curious gaze, which seemed to be piercing him.

Johnygill:

- I uh- emm.. I’ll tell when you’re older.. sure..?

Wolverinekit:

- Well.. alright?

Wolverinekit still didn’t understood why this question brought such awkwardness, since- for him, it actually seemed like a normal question to ask your parent.

A bit later, evening of this day, when clearing was already empty since everyone has been gone on patrols. Mothkit walked out of medicine den, and straight up went up to Wolverinekit.

Mothkit:

- Wolverine, my sweet brother, do you want to know how kits are made?

Wolverinekit felt really excited, since he could easily skip 5 moons of his life, and find it out right now.

Wolverinekit:

- Hell yeah!

Mothkit began explaining it, with a bit- too much detail in her speech. Once she finished talking, her brother looked at her with widely open traumatized and a bit shocked eyes. Now he understood why his father decided that he’s going to tell it to him when he’s older.

Wolverinekit:

- How do you even.. know this..?

Mothkit:

- My friend told me. They’re really nice actually, but also-

Roarpaw were looking around some old, abandoned two-leg den. She saw a cat sitting on a fence on it, and in the moment they spotted her, cat leapt down to her.

Roarpaw:

- Good morning mister! May I ask if you would like to join my clan?

Cat hesitated for a moment, and then finally replied:

- Joining a clan..? Sorry mate, I can’t. I’ve got a cat to look after.

Roarpaw looked how they leapt back on the fence, and decided to start heading home. “Maybe I’ll have better luck next time..”

Peatpelt and Fishmask were on patrol together, and searching for catmint. They scented some near an abandoned two-leg den, and thinking that no one lives there, they walked in to search for herb.

???:

- Hey, kids! Wha’cha doing so deep in swamps?

Fishmask:

- Searching for herbs. May we borrow some catmint?

Stitches:

- Of course! My name is Stitches by the way. Also-

Stitches began talking to Fishmask, while Peatpelt found the plant, and took few stems. They said that clan can take the herb, so he did. Eventually, they stopped talking and clan cats began heading home.

Fishmask:

- ..shit. I forgot to take catmint. - she mumbled.

Peatpelt:

- Don’t worry, I got it. You can count on me if you need.

Fishmask:

- ….Thanks. Roarpaw would appreciate it.

Fishmask trotted into nursery, and immediately was greeted by Wolverinekit, already exited about their apprentice ceremony.

Fishmask:

- Sorry to.. disappoint you a bit, but.. Wolverinekit- you see, me and Johnygill came to decision that you will become an apprentice along with Mothkit, so you’ll need to wait until she heals her frostbite.

Wolverinekit:

- Aww.. I hope she gets better soon.

Mothkit gave a quick glance to nursery with two cats in there, and smiled a bit once she saw her a bit sad brother. Johnygill was already calling her to go into medicine den, and once they got under ruined shipwreck, she asked:

Mothkit:

- So— why did you called me?

Johnygill:

- You see.. I think that it will be better if you will become clan’s medicine cat. Your skills may be useful for the clan, and visions you get will help us establish a better connection with afterlife.

- …

- …

- …

- Got two hares with one shot. Perfect.

Are the short chapters and long texts under intentional? I really like your comic but it struck me a bit odd (in a good way) that the moons are a lot shorter visually, rather than other creators I've seen who put more of the emphasis on the drawing rather than the text

I have actually two things why I decided to do these texts under the moons:

1. Bad internet exists, and this is the option for ppl who still want to see updates, without being able to see the picture.

2. Drawing is kinda tiring, and drawing expressions is even worse. It’s just easier for me to express emotions through words.

But, I’m trying to balance both things, and I’m doing it by making both text and drawing in new format I did for my comics.

Ik I keep changing Moth’s design with each new page. I’m a bit indecisive.

Mothkit battled moss in her nest. A feeling of disturbance mixed with either fear of curiosity was showing through her face, along with bristled fur on the back.

She quickly woke up, with her eyes widely open and in cold sweat. Her claws already were halfway to tearing her bedding, and she began calming herself down. I’d be better if she told someone about her dream.

She walked outside, and saw her father and Fishmask talking about hers and her brother’s apprentice ceremonies. Mothkit came up the them, and almost immediately had one of them to turn to her:

Fishmask:

- ..Yes Mothkit?

Mothkit:

- I had- a weird- nightmare, rather than dream.

Johnygill:

- You can tell it to us if you want. We’re medicine cat after all, and it might be a vision.

Mothkit:

- So.. at first it was a very nice place. Soft grass, pretty blue skies, and stars scattered across them. A butterfly was flying near some big animal, and it felt like a bliss. Then, the animal came a bit forward, away from the butterfly and then- it dropped dead on the grass. Ground filled with golden-brown grass, skies were painted red, and butterfly just- sat near the animal. I- - she began tearing up. - it felt too real.. I could feel the blood smell, hear flapping of butterfly’s wings, and cold ground underneath me..

Johnygill came up to his daughter and laid near her, letting kitten to cry into his fluffy tail. He began licking Mothkit’s forehead, to calm her down and warm her up. Fishmask also joined them, and gave another medicine cat a quick glance.

Fishmask:

- We should talk it out before sunhigh. - she whispered.
