Verse: Fallout

Based on the post apocalyptic game series "Fallout". Can take place in any of the game setting, It's not important where she is, just her back story.

Elena and Jeremy Gilbert were born outside of the vault long after dwellers started returning to the surface. She had only heard stories of what vault life is like and has always been interested in how different it is from above ground life in the wasteland. She knows there's rumors of several vaults that have not been opened yet, or colonies that have no left the vault yet- it's something shes always low key looking for without going out of her way for it..

Elena and Jeremy lost their parents pretty young, Elena was 16 and Jeremy was 14. Luckily, their family was part of the founding families of the small wasteland colony "Mystic Falls." Everyone knows everyone and the kids were raised by their aunt Jenna- a wasteland courier.

Jenna taught them how to handle weapons and scavenge, how to fight and survive. She didn't think any one let alone her own family should not know how to defend themselves in todays wasteland.

Unfortunately a year later Jenna disappeared after being sent on a courier mission. Elena doesn't know if shes alive or not, and its been over a year. She still has hope, but most have told her to be realistic.

Furthering her life of tragic happenings, while out scavenging, Elena and Jeremy were ambushed by a deathclaw. It was a narrow escape for Elena, walking away with only a large set of claw mark scars on her upper back... but Jeremy was killed.

Elena was distraught at the loss of her brother and fired three more shots angrily into the dead deathclaws head- it was only then that she heard a frightened squeak from somewhere behind the body.

It was a baby, a hatchling deathclaw... the creature had been protecting its young, and THEY had scared HER. Elena felt her heart break yet again. She decided, being as compassionate as she is, to take the baby deathclaw home and raise it. Which she did- with much dismay of the towns folk, but no one really put their foot down with how much the girl had lost.

As it got older it showed some traits that reminded Elena of her brother, so she named him Jeremy. And he grew up to pretty much be a little brother to her, protective and he loves her fiercely. She never goes anywhere without him (he wont let her) He is very well behaved and very intelligent for a deathclaw. He keeps her safe while shes traveling the wasteland.

Elena set up her little med kit next to him and chuckled. "Well luckily, I've never been a girl to shy away from a little bit of hard work."

Now that they were in a safer environment, Elena found it a little harder not to look at and or appreciate the shape this man was in. Elena had been told vault dwellers were usually soft- boy did he not fit that description at all. Chiseled.

"Alright, its going to feel like a lot of pressure while I pull off the bio foam gently... then it's going to sting while I re-sanitize the gash.. and then you know... stitches." She added with a small 'sorry this will hurt' grimace.

The wastlander started to work on step one, and as promised-

"Right. So Jer over there.... it was a couple of years ago... My aunt Jenna had gone missing, and so my little brother and I had pretty much taken to fending for ourselves...." She started, already mostly done removing the biofoam.

ㅤㅤnow that they seemed to be in relative safety and she was focused elsewhere, he studied her for a moment, attempting to get a read on her. he didn't have much faith in the goodness of other people even under the best circumstances, and the shitstorm the world had fallen into could hardly be considered those. was she really planning on helping him just out of the kindness of her heart? hm. ❛❛ i must appear truly pitiful then, if you're willing to take me home. ❜❜ still, he gave her a playful little salute before making his way over to the couch. ❛❛ yes ma'am. ❜❜ he carefully pulled the shirt over his head, doing his best to avoiding pulling on the wound. the moment he sat down however, the aches and pains all over his body seemed to finally hit him, and he practically melted into the cushions with a restrained groan. ❛❛ bloody hell. i think you have your work cut out for you, love. ❜❜

"Yea..." Elena swallowed hard and licked her lips. "Tell me something I don't know."

( heard the word blame and i felt summoned oop—) curious question ~ does elena ever experience nightmares that speak to that survivor's guilt? for example, a loved one telling her that she's to blame or something along those lines?

Absolutely!! Elena has sever survivors guilt. I talk a little about it here.

but essentially her survivors guilt ultimately ends her up in depressive cycles and nontraditional S*icide ideation in which she basically tries to die for a cause. Sacrifice herself to save someone else and right a "wrong" while saving her loved ones like she wasnt able to do with her parents. She goes back and fourth between feeling like she shouldnt be here, and also feeling like since she is she has to be perfect to make up for it.

It really fucks with her and she is just over all not ok. Like the whole time. She carries so much guilt with her its crippling and yet she still funnels all of it into trying to fix everything and do right by everyone but Elena is a 17/18 year old girl with no life experience and she just doesnt know how to be the adult shes trying to be so she screws up a LOT which further perpetuates her guilt and ideation that she shouldnt be here.

Thinking about Elena's confession that she blames herself for the crash. Like does Jeremy know? Would he blame her too? Does Jenna know? She confessed that to Stefan like it was a sin she'd never spoken out loud before. UGH. GOD I NEED TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH JEREMY ABOUT THAT.

The way he stayed so calm and gentle with her was very much so needed quite frankly. Elena's whole world was spinning and she just needed a solid rock. She needed Tom.

The doppelganger listened to him speak and it all made so much sense. Why he had it, why he lied. Oh god she felt so stupid.... she had stormed off so ready to condemn Tom that she had played right into Jeremy's clutches.

Panic settled over her features as she started to pace, breathing picking up and she buried her hand in her hair.

"Oh no, oh god oh god i did just what he wanted me to?? how am I going to find it now? Oh god I'm the worst sister ever how could I let him play me like that??" She sobbed out.

Suddenly she remembered Tom was standing right there and a brand new wave of guilt slammed into her like a ton of bricks.

"Im so sorry... Im so sorry that I believed him, that i suspected you... Im so sorry Tom, please forgive me?" She sobbed, desperate not to lose him over a stupid choice she made in the spur of the moment.

He felt Damon easing closer, but was grateful that he stayed silent this time. A rare moment of restraint on the older Salvatore's part. And perhaps a show of support?

Tom let out a weak, humorless chuckle at his girlfriend's questions. "It's alarmingly easy to get drugs as a teenager, Elena. I was getting high before I even started high school, and the guy who gave it to me wasn't any older than we are now." And from what he saw, that kind of thing was still going on.

"As for why Jeremy would lie and say that stuff came from me? . ." Tom wrapped his arms around himself. "Because he's an addict still getting high, with no intention of stopping, and even if you figure out that he's lying, he bought himself at least an hour to hide the rest of his stash. Because I guarantee that's the least of it, Elena," he finished, pointing at the bottle in her hand.

Elena has thought about this a lot actually. The concept of going back in time and changing something. At first she thought she might be the evolved kind of person who wouldn't change anything because of how it would affect everyone around her. The she realized that changing everything for everyone was a good thing. A thing they ALL deserved...

"I'd go back to the night of the crash... I'd stay home instead of going to that party... My parents never die, Jeremy never goes down the wrong path, I never meet Stefan, Katherine never retaliates, Jenna is still alive, Grams is still alive, Vicki, Caroline is still human, Tyler is still untriggered and has an uncle... the Mayor never dies...." Good GOD just how much DID that crash set in motion?? One single event being changed could fix EVERYTHING for everyone in mystic falls....

Elena wiped her cheek on the back of her hand and nodded.

"I'd go back, and I'd stay home that night..."

Elena wasn't in the best spot academically either. She was behind a grade because she'd missed so much school after the crash, between the hospital and therapy... she just didn't have the attendance or the grades.

It made it hard to feel motivated when you were supposed to be a year ahead and instead you're held back from something that wasn't even your fault.

"I don't know why we have to learn this, I mean it's not like we don't have phones now with built in calculators..."
