were you a fan of kol while watching tvd?

honestly, I was pretty neutral on him. I enjoyed him when he was on screen, but was not especially fixated on him. he was more interesting to me in season 4 during the whole silas!paranoia streak.

it was only years later that I watched the early seasons of the originals-- the flashbacks with kol, especially around the 1912 era when he was planning his coup against klaus, was what really piqued my interest in him-- and it's from those scenes that I have most drawn his characterization when I turn to writing him!

celebrating 4/20 by taking an edible and rereading FE for the 3rd time. the perfect afternoon. do you think klaus likes weed?

Thanks, I cackled at this and had my toddler swarming me with “what’s so funny? What’s so funny?????” Had to come up with a speedy lie.

To answer your question, I think Klaus likes it but he’s not currently in the habit. I think he picks up and puts down vices arbitrarily and he has done it all— like, I also don’t think in canon he currently smokes cigarettes, but he definitely has been in the habit in the past, and will be again.

I’m re-reading again, and in chapter 45 when Rebekah is telling Elena what they did in the three years they were gone, Elena says, “It's awfully hard to remember that with Rebekah, who bears such a powerful resemblance to her brother… .” Is there a subconscious part of Elena that fell for Rebekah specifically because she is so like Klaus? There’s many reasons she fell, I’m sure, but maybe she felt since she couldn’t have Klaus, she could have the next closest thing to him?

YES THERE IS

like, she has been subconsciously attracted to Rebekah for a long time-- even as far back as chapter 3, when Rebekah physically pins her to the bed in order to threaten her, there is a part of Elena that is weirdly turned on-- but that attraction is definitely magnified by the fact that Elena is in love with Klaus, and Rebekah and Klaus look a lot alike, and also, they have some key personality similarities. It's enough to blur the line in her mind when she's not paying attention (and, in the most recent chapter, she realizes that she's not separating them as well as she should-- there's that scene where she's fantasizing about her golden haired lover, and it's phrased like that because she's actually thinking about Klaus but she feels guilty because she should be thinking about Rebekah, and she notes how hard that can be because they do look so much alike, and Klaus interrupting her having sex with Rebekah a couple of chapters ago really messed with her head)

like, she definitely does love Rebekah for her own merits-- merits which maybe she only sees because of the specific ways that Klaus traumatized her-- but that doesn't discount that her love for Rebekah is real, but also that there is at the same time definitely something there to the fact that Elena falls for Rebekah because of Klaus

when you started writing FE, did you ever expect it to become this loved and popular?

honestly, how could I possibly? I suppose I had had some success with After the Fire, But Before the Flood, which seemed to be well-received, but the response to FE has been wildly beyond what I ever thought would happen. it was, for a little while, like capturing lightning in a bottle. the fact that I still get numerous messages about it a week when I am not nearly as active in fandom as I used to be frankly floors me.

What does this mean exactly?

it means that Elena senses there is something Very Not Right but her conscious mind is not quite willing to fully form that thought, because that would mean having to take her heart-shaped glasses off, and appraise Rebekah in a calculating way rather than in a romantic way

I was wondering if you read VisionInCrimson’s Klena fics? Do you have any fic recommendations?

Yes, I have read her work! She's amazing!! 💖💖💖 I think of @katherineholmes as one of the preeminent writers of what I like to call the "Klena Renaissance"-- she's one of the main forces behind the boom in fic, and we are so so so lucky to have her devoting her talents to our ship!

Here is my very old Klena fic rec post from... gosh, 7 years ago??? Obviously there are some FANTASTIC recent fics missing from this, but if you are looking for some maybe forgotten golden oldies, have a look.

and if you're willing to go treasure-hunting, I recommend digging through the tvd rareships livejournal page-- there are TONS of klena fics there, many of them untagged-- the "weekend comment fic parties" threads have too many gems to name, and there are also lots of regular fics posted. This is actually where I read most of my tvd fic back in the day when I read a lot more-- PLEASE go enjoy.

So, I have about 3800 words of FE 65 written, probably like 3 more major scenes to write? Honestly I haven’t worked on it the past 10 days or so; Holy Week + Easter + visiting relatives + my toddler and me both getting super sick— in other words, just LIFE.

It’ll update as soon as I can make it happen though :)
