JPN Movie Quick Review
12 SUICIDAL TEENS (2019) |  RATING: 8/10
Stellar cast, interesting characters, and a story that leaves you with a reminder in life. Check out my twitter thread here for more shenanigans and a quick thought on some of my favorite characters in the movie.
MITSU NO AWARE (2016) |  RATING: 7.5/10
Based on a 1959 novel of the same title by Saisei Muro. An old writer with his days limited gets consumed by his fantasies. The flow of the story bends your mind and makes you wonder which is real & which is fantasy.
It’s always a pleasure to watch Fumi Nikaido no matter what the plot is. I wont deny it that I watched this all because of her. I made a mini thread for this movie here.
RIVER’S EDGE (2018) |  RATING: 8/10
Original story (manga) is written by the same writer behind Helter Skelter (2012). River’s Edge takes you down the unsightly path of young souls trying to live the way they want in a restless world. I made a thread where I compiled excerpts from the original work (manga) which may help to immerse yourself more in the story as the movie tend to be more vague while the manga is more direct.
KASANE (2018) |  RATING: 10/10 LOVE THIS!
Based on a manga of the same title. Kasane is a suspense fantasy which intertwines beauty, talent, and ambition in one beautiful dark story. My favorite performance from Tsuchiya Tao as of date (Nov 2022). I say read the manga after watching because it definitely has more in store. I hope they also make a live action of the remaining story in the manga as it will answer a lot of questions that were left by the movie. Likewise, I have a mini thread here for this gem.

The Lies She Loved (2018)
Tumblr media
Cast: Nagasawa Masami, Takahashi Issei
Genre: Romance, Drama
My Rating: 9/10
Yukari has been living with her partner Kippei for 5 years. When he suddenly collapses, Yukari discovers that the Kippei she knows is all a lie.
The movie puts you in the perspective of Yukari, confused and eager to uncover the truth of this man she has been living with for years. As someone who likes mystery and detective stories my deduction skills has easily foreseen the conclusion. However, since this is not a mystery movie, what matters is the journey of Yukari towards the truth.
Issei and Masami looked good together. I daresay, I hope they get to work together again someday. Whether it be romance or not, I don’t really mind as long as they co-star again.
Tumblr media
"I was walking alone down the path. Eyes cast down at my feet, seeing nothing else. Taking no notice of my dishonesty & arrogance. You grabbed my hand, your crinkly laughing eyes & soft high cheeks. I never wanted to let go of the hand I was now holding."

JPN Movie Quick Review
A SUMMER DAY, YOUR VOICE (2015) |  RATING: 7/10
It’s your usual sad love story of a young couple in which one has an incurable disease. What sets it apart is the light tone of the movie. Despite the hardships brought about by the female lead’s disease, the story is not over dramatic. Yet still ends as how you imagine it.  I got some pretty neat screen caps of this movie on this thread.
ANO KORO, KIMI WO OIKAKETA (2018) |  RATING: 9/10
Yamada Yuki finally gets his lead role in a romance movie but they did THAT to him (LOL). BTW this is a remake of the 2011 Taiwanese movie You Are the Apple of My Eye. I can not say if its a good remake as I have not seen the original movie but as it was definitely worth the watch. The story captures well the bittersweet first love of a young man.
Favorite line in the movie: "Math problems always have correct answers but some problems in life are impossible to solve." Made a fangirl thread on this here.
SUNNY: OUR HEARTS BEAT TOGETHER (2018) |  RATING: 10/10 MUST WATCH!
This one gave me a huge nostalgia attack. Superb cast and entertaining movie that touches your heart. I have watched this movie about 5 times now and I still get giddy every time I watch this. A beautiful friendship that lasts for a lifetime. I was so in awe in this movie I don’t know what to put when I made a thread for this (LOL).
YUKI NO HANA (2019) |  RATING: 8.5/10
A story inspired by a song by Mika Nakashima with the same title. A sweet love story that blooms on a cold winter and warms your heart. Despite the premise of the female lead’s disease, the story focuses more on how she finally takes the step to enjoy the remaining life that she has. Less drama and more on finding your will to continue living. I actually watched this one in the theaters as this was shown in our country and I love the leads so I just couldn’t miss the chance! More thoughts on this movie here.

Funouhan /  Impossibility Defense (2018)
Tumblr media
Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Suspense
Cast: Tori Matsuzaka, Erika Sawajiri, Shotaro Mamiya, Mackenyu Arata, etc
My Rating: 9 / 10
"Even if there is criminal intent, if it isn't taken into action then it can't be judged as a crime. This is called the Impossibility Defense"
Tumblr media
Matsuzaka Tori convincingly portrays a chilling killer with a haunting smile. A complicated character whose existence is close to a myth. The kind of darkness that engulfs you.
Tumblr media
Based on a manga of the same title. Funohan is a satisfying psychological mystery that keeps you intrigued how the story unravels.
I originally posted this on Twitter as a thread here. More screenshots and thoughts in the thread.
More information on it’s wiki here.

JAPANESE MOVIES QUICK REVIEW/NOTES
I have a lot of time so I felt like doing this lol anyway this are all my opinions, we all have different opinions so don’t take this too seriously. I was doing this alphabetically before but screw that I’m doing this randomly and still 4 movies per post and I’m using the Japanese original title for the movies.
Here we go~
KATTE NI FURUETERO  |  RATING: 9/10
- Romance, slice of life, friendship - It's a unique story about a socially awkward girl who spent 10 yrs of loving someone she thought she had a connection with. - The main character is really interesting. She's not your usual unsociable girl. She doesn't have much redeeming qualities but the fact that she had this vulnerable, anxious, and hoping sides makes the character beautiful. You sometimes see her as really weird but then you understand why she's like that. - I really like it when the lead isn't someone that seems to only exist on books or movies. Flawed characters are the best :)
ICHIREI SHITE KISS  |  RATING: 8/10
- I've read a few of the chapters of this manga. Dropped the manga since it didn't appeal to me. - This movie isn't bad tho. It has some usual shoujo manga story elements to it and it also has its own charms. - I'm a fan of Elaiza Ikeda so I watched it. - For Kyudo lovers don't worry they properly showed the beauty of the sport.
IE NI KAERU TO TSUMA GA KANARAZU                                               SHINDA FURI WO SHITE IMASU  |  RATING: 9/10
- Slice of life, romance, comedy, family - This starts really funny, the title itself is already funny, but as the movie progresses there are parts that get you teary eyed. - I love this thing about Japanese movies and dramas in general. The way they portray different lives of different couples. How they don't add too much drama, how situations are so natural and yet it moves you. How they don't need to have antagonists to make stories interesting. Probably the main reason I keep watching Jdoramas and movies.
50 KAIME NO FIRST KISS |  RATING: 10/10
- Inspired by the hit movie 50 First Dates starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. - It turned out really good tbh. I was expecting this to be really dramatic but everything was just perfectly mixed. It was 40% funny, 40% sweet, and 20% dramatic.

JAPANESE DORAMA QUICK REVIEW/NOTES
I have done the movies list before and now I feel like how about the doramas hehe well anyway as always these are all my opinions, we all have different opinions so don’t take this too seriously. Doing this 4 dorama per post just like before with the movies.
Here we go~
AKUMU-CHAN|  RATING: 9/10
- Quite interesting. Revolves around dreams and also the relationship between students and teachers. - Usually school themed dramas are lead by a role model teacher but for this the lead was a teacher who had contrasting feelings and started as someone who doesn't have a heart. - This had a different story for each episode but at the same time the mysteries revolving the lead was unravelled slowly as the episodes progressed. - Be sure to watch the SP and the movie!
DAIRENAI  |  RATING: 10/10
- This drama gives you everything. Its so fun and heart warming watching this. - The characters are natural, the flow of story is smooth, lines are well written, there's a lot of really cute moments though at the same time there are a lot of scenes that's definitely going to tug at your heart. - I was literally laughing then the next second crying. It's really beautiful don't miss out on your Jdorama life, go watch this!
KIMI GA KOKORO NI SUMISUITA  |  RATING: 8/10
- I almost dropped this. Ogawa's character ticked me off on the first few epsidoes. Then it got quite good in the middle. The ending is fine I guess. - Mukai Osamu's really good (his face and his acting lol) - Yoshizaki is so dreamy. He's the reason why I didn't drop this series. His character is so lovable. A guy who accepts your past and loves all sides of you. (Oh God will I be ever blessed with one haha)
MIRAI-SAN  |  RATING: 9/10
- A 5 episode home dorama - As the title implies its about the family of Mirai who lives in the near future(mirai). - It's light and quite funny. Perfect short break if you've been watching heavy dramas.

Here we go~
DELE |  RATING: 10/10
- Perfect, this series deserved all the awards it got. - The SudaxYamada duo is really great. Both are exceptional actors. - The drama is like most jdoramas which had a different case each episode. Each case is unique and tells the value of life. - I think what makes this drama extra special is because watching each episode makes you feel how much effort and talent was put into it, not just by the actors but as well as the people behind it. The script and story flow was good, the symbolisms, the way how each scene was taken, the lighting, the angles of the camera, even the colors used for the drama are all so pleasing.
KODOMO KEISATSU  |  RATING: 10/10
- This is soooo cute! Its like a whole agency made up of Conan Edogawa LOL - These child actors are all so good, really had fun watching this one.
SHINJUKU SEVEN  |  RATING: 10/10
- Story revolves around Nanase an appraiser with extraordinary appraising skills. Who has been searching for the one who killed his dad. - Each episode is really interesting and the plot twists are well done. - The cast did well on their roles, Ueda looks so good lol (I know Ueda because of Kat-tun but this is the first time I watched his drama and he's quite good in acting)
SIGNAL |  RATING: 9.5/10
- THEY FINALLY GAVE KENTARO A DORAMA LEAD ROLE AHHHHH - This was really good, every episode is thrilling, you kind of know who the real villain tho through the first half of the series but you still get intrigued with what will happen.
