Alright so I went way overboard but when I set out to make a list of films people should check out I’m gonna take it a little to seriously.  That being said here’s a shit ton of films that I think everyone should check out if they can. I’m definitely missing a lot but every single one of these is in order by year of release. So here it goes.

I’ve wanted to do a project for the longest time ft animated films that reflect the culture, art, mythology, region, or history of where they were made in.

The requirements are that they be at least one of those previously mentioned things, need to be made in or had part of it’s production housed in the country it reflects, and it be a decent film. Here’s what I got so far:

Ireland - Song of the Sea

Zimbabwe - Legend of the Sky Kingdom

China - Big Fish and Begonia

United States - The Iron Giant

Brazil - Boy and the World

Australia - Dot and the Kangaroo

France - The Triplets of Belleville

Israel - Waltz with Bashir

Canada - Window Horses(?) A lot of Canadian films and co-productions aren’t super tied into their country or the culture of Canada, colonial or native.

Britain - I don’t know. What’s the most Britishy-British Animated romp that just crawling with pure Britishisms? I’m torn between one of those dark age 60s or 70s films or Aardman.

Japan - ANIME FANS GIVE ME STRENGTH THERE’S TOO MANY JAPANESE ANIMATED FILMS ROLLING IN JAPANESE-NESS

I’ve heard interesting things about Arjun: Warrior Prince and RPG Metanoia, so hopefully India and the Philippines will get to join the party, but we’ll see…

The plot centers on a famous psychotherapist who sets out to steal 13 of the world’s most famous paintings to stop the nightmares that haunt him at night. He and his gang of thieves, accompanied by four of his patients, manage to steal some of the most prized works of art from the Louvre, Tate, Uffizi, Hermitage and MoMA.
