Nobody’s Son, Nobody’s Daughter
Part V
Hello my loves, here’s the fifth part of my little fem reader x edmund fanfic.
I hope you’ll enjoy!!
Word coun: slightly above 3,6k
——————————————————
After his pleasing bath Edmund eventually went to bed and tried to push away any remaining thoughts of their visitor. And soon enough he fell asleep, much easier than usual these days.
Althea on the other hand was distraught, hurt, furious. Not only was this Y/N genuinely useful for their investigation, Edmund, his Edmund was starting to fancy her,
However, Althea had to stop himself from continuing further with these thoughts. After all, he knew very well that Edmund was not attracted to men. Even if he wanted to, and knowing Edmund's kind heart he would if he knew, he could not love Althea the way he wanted to be loved.
The King was grateful that he had gotten a good night's rest for the first time since the death of his siblings. In a way however it made him feel guilty. This felt like he was beginning to move on and it felt wrong to do so. It had only been a couple of months at this point.
When the message had reached him he thought the pain would never subside and in a way he was happy about that. Edmund felt responsible for their death, he thought it to be a just punishment to be carrying the hurt until the day he died himself. It was only right, especially because the hurt was supposed to weigh as much as the love he felt for them, infinite. He didn't want the hurt to end because it was a reminder of the love he still felt for Peter, Susan and Lucy. He feared that if the pain was subsiding so would the love, the memories and everything else. Edmund was now the only person in the entire world to know about England, their homeland, their upbringing, their mother and their father. He felt left alone with all this knowledge of a past life that had been wiped from all the records. He felt lost, like a child in a busy market whose parents had wandered off, who was surrounded by tall, scary lookong adults who walked past him.
He stood up and went over to his dresser, pulling out the flashlight he had brought with him to Narnia. The batteries had died ages ago but to him it was still a reminder of the lives they used to live. Of technology, development, the war and their world, their home.
With his siblings' death died not only his family but also his entire past. Edmund loved Narnia and he was proud to rule over this wonderful land, however he did miss England sometimes. He missed the friends he had back there, the convenience of technology, trains and flushing toilets. Susan had tried to introduce the Narnians to the concept of plumbing and trains but they had no interest in learning about all that. Sometimes this all felt like a very strange dream. He didn't admit it to anybody but ever since they had passed Edmund wondered if the wardrobe they first stepped through was still somewhere out there. He wondered if death travelled between worlds or if his siblings would still be alive and well somewhere in England.
In times like these he mostly missed his father. When Edmund was still a boy his father could help him navigate the difficult moments, he would take his hands and lead the way, hug him tightly and give him courage and some good advice. But now Edmund was alone, he felt utterly alone in the universe and he was grieving not only their lives but also his own. Aside from the difficult task of suddenly ruling over an entire kingdom on his own he now also felt responsible to keep their memories alive. No one who was here with him had known him as a child, no one knew even just his parent's names. Despite being so well liked and established in Narnia he couldn't help but feel like a stranger. Like a tumor which had developed here and needed to be killed off. As if he didn't belong here. Narnia was never meant to be left to one single ruler. Their entire rise to power was based on the circumstance of them being siblings. It was rooted in their deep understanding of each other and the ways in which they complemented each other. Being alone felt wrong, it felt lonely. Edmund was torn between embarking on a desperate search for them or staying here to hold down the ship, praying that this was all just a huge misunderstanding and he would hear their voices coming up the stairs in their old house in England one more time.
Without realising Edmund had sunk to the ground and had begun silently sobbing. He clutched the flashlight to his chest struggling to breathe.
"Your Majesty!" Y/N exclaimed as she arrived at his door. The King looked at her as if he had seen all the horrors of the world. "I apologise your Highness, yesterday at the dinner you asked to meet me early this morning to continue our work- I apologise I-" she tried to explain but quickly stopped because the King began calling for something, someone unknown to Y/N through his tears "Dad, dad please ... please come... help me .. dad.." Y/N made a decision then which she knew to be risky but proceeded with anyway. She rushed over to where Edmund lay on the floor and scooped him up, resting his upper body against hers and gently stroking his hair while her other arm held him tight. "It's okay Your Majesty, you are not alone, you are safe, let it out, let it all out." she whispered reassuringly as she held him tightly. She pressed his ear to her chest, hoping the steady sound of her heartbeat would ground him a bit. She sat with him for a long time, holding him as he worked through his tears and called names of people unknown to Y/N. She did her best trying to comfort him and guide him through his pain. It dawned on her that he was not aware who she was at the moment. She felt this anonymity gave her a certain freedom. "Your Majesty, it is all good, you will be fine, I am here ... Edmund, listen to me, I am here. Edmund." his name rolled easily off her tongue. It was foreign to her native language, or any language she knew for that matter but it was a name she liked, it was peculiar but fitted this unique man in her opinion. "Edmund, try to breathe, Edmund." At the sound of his name Edmund slowly calmed down. His feelings hadn't stopped but he was exhausted and he suddenly felt as if the situation had improved somehow. He came to his senses and his vision cleared up. When he realised where he was, in the state he was, with who he was, his eyes widened in shock and embarrassment. "Miss Y/N I am deeply sorry I - I do not know what - I" Y/N felt equally embarrassed and could barely hold back the blush which filled her cheeks "No no no I am sorry Ed- Your Highness. I am sorry if I crossed a line, I never meant to intrude on your privacy like this. You were so very distraught and I was concerned for your safety, I am endlessly sorry." Edmund took a few deep breaths "don't be .. I .. I must admit I lost my composure there and I do appreciate you.. taking care of me."
The two remained this close for quite a while, perhaps longer than necessary. It felt nice to be held like this and even Y/N, through all her efforts to remain professional, had to admit that being this close to such a remarkable man made her feel a bit giddy.
Eventually however, Edmund got up "Y/N, please, after this endeavour, would you please join me for breakfast." he offered and put on a charming smile, extending an elbow to her. Y/N gave him a polite smile and grabbed his elbow "I would be happy to, Your Highness"
Edmund led the two down to the dining hall where a lavish breakfast was already waiting for them.
This time the words came more easily to him. Edmund felt that this involuntary display of vulnerability broke some sort of ice between them and he found himself rather comfortable around Y/N, happy almost.
Althea watched Edmund's sudden change in behaviour and couldn't help but be slightly disappointed. To him it looked like Edmund was trying to seduce her after his newfound pleasure from last night. As if he was simply trying to get her to sleep with him, jeopardising their entire work as a professional team.
After the breakfast Althea practically scolded Edmund "Edmund, please, I understand that you are yearning for.. intimacy , but please satisfy this desire by calling on one of the mistresses, not by serenading our most useful resource in this investigation."
"Excuse me Althea, what in Merlin's name is making you say that!"
"Do you think I don't notice the way you look at Y/N, the way you talk to her. I understand that she is an attractive young woman but don't lose sight of what is important. She is not your toy to play with !"
"Althea! Stop this at once, you know very well I respect women far too much to ever view them as a toy! And I have no intimate intentions with Y/N. I enjoy her company. That is true, I find her to be intelligent, well-educated, pleasant to work with and caring. Yes, she is attractive but we both know I am not one to go around seducing women."
"Caring? ... Whatever, please keep in mind that she is here only for this investigation. She is an employee of the royal court of the Yuvak, even if you two enjoy each other's company her stay here is limited."
Their conversation did lead Edmund to questioning his behaviour towards Y/N. He understood that exploring these feelings was not only dangerous but also in vain, because she was not his to keep.
The following weeks were filled with work and a close collaboration with the Yuvak people. Thanks to Y/N's help a good relationship was established between the two kingdoms and they combined their forces to work against the mysterious men threatening the stability of monarchies. Edmund's excellent military leader skills came in handy and he was able to contribute to the safety measures taken.
Edmund felt like they were making serious progress even though the end of this struggle was still far away. During all this time he tried his best to keep a respectable distance between him and Y/N.
He tried to satisfy his desires and distract himself with other women but his mind always wandered to her no matter who he was with.
Slowly summer was starting to spread its warmth and brightness. This meant their annual Summer's Night ball was approaching. Y/N had heard of it. The two sisters had started this tradition to celebrate the start of the new season, and secretly to find a match for their oldest brother and perhaps themselves. The ball started the official season in the capital and families from all over Narnie came to try and find matches for their children.
"I will bring the seamstress to your room to get you fitted for a dress." Ruth explained cheerfully. "I'm sorry, Ruth please, my current wardrobe is more than satisfying. I do not need a new dress." Y/N tried to shake it off. "But Miss of course you do, attending the Summer's Night ball without a proper dress would be wildly inappropriate."
"The ball? I had no idea I would be attending Ruth, I have not received an invitation." "Yet," added Ruth "You must know, we, the servants, we talk to each other and King Edmund's messenger boy just so happened to catch your name on one of the invitations. Your invitation has been sent out, it just hasn't arrived yet."
"Oh ... in that case I must apologise, you were right then."
While Ruth rushed away to get the seamstress Y/N couldn't help but smile to herself, being invited to a ball by a proper King was certainly exciting and being able to wear a beautiful gown made her even more giddy.
The dress turned out beautiful. It was a proper ball gown and combined with the jewellery she was allowed to borrow for the night Y/N felt like a princess.
Once the ball had started Althea came to her chamber to collect her "Y/N, soon the King will arrive, we should head down."
He had a rather complicated relationship with Y/N, while he did appreciate her help he felt hurt that she got all this attention from Edmund without even trying. However, he also had to face the fact that ultimately this was not her fault. As much as he wanted to blame her he knew better than anybody else that one's feelings were not always obedient.
The ball was breathtakingly beautiful. The decorations, the music, the food, the people, everything was perfect. Y/N's diplomatic heart was filled with joy as she was able to exchange with people from all over Narnia and even beyond that. She enjoyed meeting so many new people and as the night grew darker she became more energetic, dancing with many people, except for one.
The King was dressed in a suit which fit like a second skin, making him look exactly the right amount sophisticated and sexy at the same time. His dark hair was flowing perfectly in the warm breeze of the night and the handsome smile he put on was intoxicating. His face was clean shaven to show off his perfectly chiselled jawline. His broad shoulders were nicely framed by his jacket and the rings he wore highlighted his strong, veiny hands.
Y/N felt a strange fuzzy feeling in her lower abdomen when he entered the hall. With him being the only monarch of Narnia, and unmarried, many royal women made an attempt to get closer to him. Mothers and fathers, eager to marry off their daughters to the best possible man, were flocking around him like vultures surrounding a carcass. He entertained some of them out of politeness but he knew he wasn't interested in any of them. He only had eyes for one woman, who was currently spinning over the dance floor in a dress more beautiful than all the stars in the sky combined. When he looked at her he could no longer resist the feeling of desire that overcame him. He was so full of her he could barely eat that night. The fabric flowed in a way that made it look like she was floating and the colour perfectly matched her skin colour. He recognised the jewellery she was wearing, the sparkling diamonds were part of the royal collection. These pieces didn't initially belong to the Pevensies, they had been passed down from past monarchs. He was so caught up in the way she looked he didn't even wonder who gave her the permission to wear them.
When she eventually left the crowd of people to catch some fresh air the King sneakily followed her.
He found her on the balcony of the grand library, leaning against the railing, looking out into the summer night. She looked so happy, so beautiful so much like Y/N the man couldn't help but approach her. It was as if his mind and reason had given over the control of his body to some primal urge which he had tried to bury unsuccessfully and which was now breaking out of him like the eruption of a volcano.
"Y/N!" he called and she just managed to turn to face him when he cupped her face and pressed his mouth onto hers before she could protest. Perhaps it was the alcohol she had consumed but Y/N saw no issue in leaning into the kiss. She gently pressed her hands on his chest and this time it was her turn to feel his heartbeat. Only he wasn't calm, his heart was beating rapidly and it matched the eagerness of his kiss. She couldn't help but smile. "Your Highness I-" "Please" Edmund panted "call me Edmund, at least for now, at least for tonight."
"Edmund, I .. I don't know what to say." "Don't worry Y/N I already know everything I need for tonight" he whispered and grabbed her waist, kissing her roughly as he carried her to one of the tables and setting her down. It was as if they had given up control to their hidden desires. In the privacy of the darkness with the crowd only being a background noise the two finally let loose. They finally gave in to all the attraction they had been feeling and denying themselves for weeks. If it weren't for the clothing between them their bodies they would have devoured each other whole. Y/N felt how strong and muscular Edmund really was. She let her hands travel over his broad shoulders and down his chest until she could feel his defined abs underneath his shirt. It was intoxicating to be pinned down by such an attractive man. After all, Edmund was head of the royal army, he was the best soldier they had of course he was incredibly fit.
Y/N considered herself a well off woman, she enjoyed the pleasures of education and employment, in many ways she saw herself as equal to most men she encountered. But there was something so arousing about the clear dominance Edmund had right now. The way he was leading the kiss, holding her body in place and shielding her from their surroundings so that all her senses were consumed with Edmund, Edmund, Edmund.
Her mind was blank, all she could feel was the wetness between her legs and subsequently the hardness growing between his. Y/N rarely engaged in intimate activities, it was a side effect of her profession that she had to maintain a certain distance between herself and almost anybody else. But she was more than happy to leave that behind for tonight as she let her hand travel down Edmund's body and into his trousers. When she finally grasped his aching cock Edmund let out a strained moan "Oh fuck Y/N, you have no idea how much I have wanted this, how much I have wanted you, needed you." Y/N ceased the moment of weakness and switched their position. With Edmund being pressed up against the edge of the table she slowly sunk to her knees while opening his trousers. She looked up at Edmund and met his desperate eyes, screaming for relief, panting as he gripped the table. She looked deeply into these dark eyes and she knew right then and there that not even a guillotine could take away the head she was about to give to this man.
With that she dived in, she engulfed his penis and began to suck on it like a starving woman devouring her meal. She used her hands to work over the length she couldn't cover with her mouth. The girth and length of his cock was intoxicating and she found herself enjoying the sensation of her lips being stretched open. She put in all the effort and Edmund's delicious moans and grunts made it more than worth it to her. "Bloddy hell Y/N for fuck's sake keep going- please- I - argh" Edmund struggled to speak, his voice sounded raspy and he seemed out of breath, so instead he grabbed her hair and guided her head up and down his cock. Y/N happily gave it her all and relaxed her throat to take in more of him. She swirled her tongue around his tip as she sucked. Edmund gripped the table so hard he almost broke off a chunk. Y/N blinked away the tears forming in her eyes and looked up at him with the most innocent look she could put on and Edmund almost went feral in that moment. All the feelings he had ignored, the yearning for her touch, it was all catching up to him at lightning speed and he was overwhelmed by pleasure. With her performance and his pent up desire it didn't take long for him to unleash everything he had into her mouth. Like the eager woman she was, Y/N diligently swallowed every last drop and proudly showed off her clean tongue to the man struggling to stand above her. "Y/N I - I have no words, I haven't felt this good since .. I don't even know" he picked her up and kissed her once again.
"Edmund, please, I'm afraid, the guests, they will have noticed your absence by now" Y/N whispered, afraid to speak the words herself.
Reluctantly Edmund stopped kissing her and gently put her down on the table again "as always Y/N, you are correct .. and I will return but please, I beg you, come to my chamber tonight instead of yours, I would hate for this to be our only encounter." he adjusted his clothing and fixed his hair before cupping her cheeks once more. "Please, consider this a pause, not an end." he kissed her sweetly one last time and gave her a wide smile before heading back to the ballroom.
So, Y/N was left alone with her own arousal, she didn't feel neglected though but rather motivated to get what she wanted later. She took her time to adjust everything and hide any evidence of their little meeting before also returning to the ball.

Nobody's Son, Nobody's Daughter
Part IV
hello my loves, here's another part of my Edmund Pevensie x fem reader fic! We're finally getting some spice in this part!
hope you enjoy! :)
the other parts can also be found under this tag and on my acc!
word count almost 4k
The moonlight coming from the window at the end of the corridor illuminated his face just enough that Y/N saw what she believed to be tears glistening on his cheeks. Althea was sitting outside the King's chamber silently crying. Y/N tried to piece together the cause for such a scene. She figured the moans coming from the King's chamber had something to do with them. She could hear a few occasional grunts coming from a deep voice and many higher pitched moans. The King was enjoying some time with one of his mistresses apparently while Althea was outside crying.
Y/N had seen enough and quietly turned around and left the wing still in search of her own chamber.
______
Althea had listened all night. He recognized Edmund's noises, clearly he wasn't very passionate about this. He sounded rather .. upset. It didn't happen often that Edmund called one of the eager ladies up to his room but each time he did Althea felt like he had been punched in the stomach. He felt bad for a number of reasons. First of all he felt that Edmund was doing this just to blow off some steam. From the sounds they were making it was clear that Edmund was being quite rough. Althea knew he only acted like this on days when he was angry. Who could blame him? He did just lose his entire family and the threat of his own death was still dangling over his head.
Secondly though, Althea felt pained no matter what kind of sex Edmund was having. On the rare occasion that Edmund was actually enjoying himself he sounded much different than this time. He sounded soft, breathy moans leaving his flushed lips and strong hands gripping the sheets. Althea knew he would make him feel like this every time, better even, if only he had the chance to. He knew he would love his king so good if only one would let him. He was right for Edmund, he was good for him, he would be good to him.
But instead Edmund was in there, separated from Althea, with an unknown woman, pounding her small body into his mattress until she would either scramble away from overstimulation or he would finally release himself.
Althea knew this wasn't what Edmund truly desired. While he made the women squirm and yell out his name he would always retreat to his bath chamber once they were finished and take himself in hand to reach the end.
On those nights Althea wouldn't touch himself. Despite the temptation of pleasure alongside his beloved, Althea's broken heart spoiled it for him. The pain of being reminded that Althea wasn't what Edmund wanted spoiled it. Instead he spent those nights wishing he had breasts, a smaller waist and an entrance in between his legs instead of a penis. Maybe then Edmund would finally see him for what he wanted to be, his lover. He was so caught up in his own misery that he missed the woman's resemblance to Y/N and perhaps so had Edmund himself.
—-
The next morning Y/N was awoken by a maid. She was a sweet young girl, full of energy and all smiles. Y/N figured she had been sent here by her parents who probably live in the countryside. The girl looked strong like she had helped out on a farm or doing labour in the woods. Most notably though she had the accent that the people from the countryside had. "Good Morning Ma'am" she opened the curtains to let in the sunlight. "I hope you had a good night here at our lovely castle" Y/N nodded politely "I did, thank you". "I'll bring in something for you to eat shortly and a new gown." "Oh no don't trouble yourself I'm perfectly fine wearing the gown from yesterday. I'm not a noble, I don't require a change of clothes so frequently." "But Ma'am the King ordered us to treat you like we would any fine guest, a fresh set of clothing is part of that." Y/N nodded once again "I understand, I won't get in the way of your customs then." The girl disappeared in the hallway but left the door slightly ajar. Y/N caught a glimpse of Althea passing by her door. He looked inside of it and accidentally locked eyes with Y/N for a moment. Not very long, a second at best, but long enough for her to notice how puffy his eyes were.
She was beginning to piece together the relationship between Althea and the Just King although she was unsure how involved the King was in it. She gave up the thought when the nice servant came back with her gowns. They were a bit more luxurious than yesterday's gown but still functional. Perhaps they were trying to make a good impression on her so that she would speak in favour of them.
"Ma'am" Y/N asked. "Oh My lady no I'm no Ma'am I'm simply Ruth, please." "Alright Ruth, do you happen to know anything about the King's advisor?" "Sir Althea? Well not too much, J haven't been here very long. But from what I could gather he acts like the King's puppy. Always following him around and I know we're all drooling over the King but so is he if you ask me. Even before ... the incident. I believe he's competent, doing a good job you know. Sometimes I wonder if they were childhood friends or something-" Ruth froze when she heard footsteps coming down the hall. "That's the headmistress, I already said too much I'm sorry I was being improper." "No need to worry, thank you so much" Y/N quickly whispered before the older servant came in to check on them.
Y/N was ordered into the library once again. This time only by Althea. She was lead past the grand room filled with books and brought to a second hall filled with bookshelves but notably also with many desks in the middle of the room. "Please, if you could compose a letter to your people, proposing a collaboration in this investigation. I will come check on you later." Y/N nodded, she noted that Althea had no right to phrase this request like an order but she would look past that seeing as they were in a difficult situation. She sat down and quickly began writing. Composing such requests was something she had practised very often, before noon she was done with the letter. She got up and tried to find a staff member to show the letter to Althea. She quietly stepped out of the hall and back into the main library. She noticed some books and scrolls of paper splayed out on a table not far from her. The King was sitting at the table, alone this time without his advisor in sight. He must've felt that he was alone too because he looked quite dishevelled. His shirt was rolled up to his elbows and some buttons at the top were undone. He rested his forehead on the palms of his hands and ran his fingers through his dark hair.
Y/N had to admit she was a bit unsure what to do. She was well trained in diplomacy and international relationships. But she had little training on how to console a grieving man. She wasn't sure if she should act professionally or kindly.
It may have been unwise but in a moment of pity she decided to display kindness.
"Your Majesty, are you quite alright?" She asked softly, respectfully keeping her distance. The King jolted up and stared at her for a moment. "Oh of course, I'm sorry miss Y/N I hadn't noticed you come in." "I was just in here composing a letter to arrange a meeting with my people for you." She explained as she slowly came closer. "Alright yes thank you very much Y/N.." The King mumbled as he looked back down at the table. "If I may ask, what are you researching, your Highness? Perhaps I could be of assistance."  She offered kindly and stopped when she had reached the edge of the table. "Actually I am trying to plan our meeting. I have to admit, my older Sister Susan was responsible for foreign affairs, I'm afraid I might not be aware of all there is to know. Except for the basics that is." He explained quietly, obviously ashamed.
"Oh do not worry Your Majesty, I know how to handle my people. I can lead the discussion if you wish."
"No no I uh I believe it is important for me to take the lead on this. I trust in your abilities Y/N but as I am sure you understand as sole ruler of Narnia I need to make my dominance clear." The King tried to sound very polite contrary to what he just said.
"I understand Your Highness but if I am allowed to make a suggestion perhaps dominance isn't exactly what you need but rather collaboration. Especially for the Yuvak people, we are not impressed by displays of power, we seek responsible, understanding and well-educated partners to work in a team." Y/N explained looking at him seriously. He nodded "I understand, thank you Y/N, your advice is greatly appreciated." He smiled up at her, probably his attempt to seem kind rather than strong.
His smile was nice, handsome even, but not very honest. If anything he seemed tired, tired of grieving, tired of ruling alone, tired of being so very unsure of what to do. Y/N felt sorry for him and worried. She knew that grief could very quickly develop into something more permanent, something that would take over the mind and slowly take over the entire body until there was nothing left of a person but their shell. People who were eaten up by grief usually, almost always ended up ending their own lives. It was absolutely crucial that King Edmund would avoid this fate. Not just for himself and his own well-being but also for the political climate. If the Just King were to die, Narnia would once again be left without a legitimate ruler. The consequences of this would be grave, their entire population would be in great danger.
Y/N gave him a kind smile "Of course your Majesty, I'll do whatever I can to support you" She bowed to him as a sign of respect.
The King gulped quietly as he looked at her bow down. He had not realised it until then but he was very grateful for Y/N. She was clearly a very skilled fighter and well-educated diplomat. They had not officially spoken about her occupation but he felt that she was clearly a diplomat, an ambassador maybe even. It was the only way to explain her fighting skills, her knowledge about foreign affairs and her good ties to her own government. She seemed so at ease and always in control. The King felt ashamed that a diplomat was handling everything better than he, a monarch, was.
Something else that he noticed which he did not quite admit to himself was that Y/N was also remarkably beautiful. She looked kind yet fierce. The way her eyes looked at him made him burn with a sensation new to him and it was as if her voice was hypnotising him. No matter what she said he was listening intently. Looking at her lips move when she spoke caused ideas to pop up in his head which he forced away the moment they appeared.
He told himself he was just tired, that he was pent up from all the stress and that a couple of nights with his mistresses would fix these impure thoughts.
After all he was a King, he could not go around starting affairs with commoners, no matter how intriguing they were, no matter how remarkable they were.
"If you'll allow, I shall take a look at what you have prepared so far for the meeting."  Y/N looked down at the table, her voice filled with motivation.
Edmund gave a small smile and nodded "Please, feel free."
And so they looked over his material together, her filling in where she could with what she knew. They were working well as a team, Althea noted as he stood in the doorway of the grand library. He had come to collect the letter and check up on Edmund. Slowly he began feeling that he shouldn't have trusted her that day at the crime scene. He remembered telling Edmund how she was probably on their side, now he wasn't so sure anymore. Sure she wasn't attacking Edmund actively but he felt as if she was getting too close to the King. Only a traitor would seek such closeness, she was probably the one who killed the other Pevensies.
Perhaps he was jumping to conclusions, but either way she was bad news to him. Althea knew Edmund like the back of his hand, and had accompanied him through most of his reign. He was supposed to be the one helping Edmund the most, not this stranger. He bit his lip, his heart full of envy and took loud quick steps towards them.
The two unintentionally took a few steps apart from eachother as if caught doing something they shouldn't. "Miss Y/N, I take it you finished what I asked you to do ?" "I did, here, please review it and tell me if it is to your liking." She looked at him with very kind eyes, maybe even pitiful... "May I ask what else you are doing here then? Disturbing the King while he is preparing!" Althea felt himself getting angrier again, losing control of his emotions. "Althea." Edmund said, sternly yet softly. Althea turned to look at him, hearing his voice always grounded him. Hearing Edmund call his name was like a remedy to his illness. No one pronounced his name quite as beautifully and lovingly as Edmund did.
The King gave him a soft, reassuring smile and Althea felt as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. "She's helping us Althea, who better to prepare a meeting with the Yuvak people than a Yuvakian herself ?." Althea nodded, us, Edmund was right, us, perhaps Y/N could be of use to them, us. With that he turned around and exited the library again so as to not feel any more of these unpleasant feelings.
Y/N tried to ignore the obvious hostility from Altheah but she didn't have to. "Please excuse him, you must know .. Althea is truly my dearest friend, if I may get so personal. And I'm afraid he's looking out for me. As a friend but also as the King's advisor he wants to look out for my safety."
"I understand your Highness. Although I do not have any intentions of hurting you. It goes against the oath I swore in Yuvak, everyone who is working in the name of our country cannot initiate an attack."
"Well, Miss Y/N, that might be true but keep in mind that we did meet after you single handedly killed 15 grown men." The King chuckled a bit as he picked up where they left off their work. Y/N appreciated his attempts to comfort her but she couldn't let go of the feeling that Althea was bothered by something else.
The rest of the day passed rather quickly, the two of them gathering evidence, preparing questions and possible plans for how they should proceed in this case. Her letter had been impeccable, the perfect balance between demanding and polite, short yet conclusive and composed with a wonderfully rich vocabulary.
The sun was setting when a servant called on the King to tell him his dinner was ready. "Oh already? I must admit I had not realised how long we've been working I ... Y/N how about you join me for dinner tonight? As a thank you for your support." The King offered and Y/N couldn't help but smile "You are too kind your Highness, I would love to join you tonight." She replied bowing to him in gratitude. "Very well, I shall meet you at the table then."
With that both the King and Y/N were taken away by servants to get ready.
"Oh my, an official dinner with the King! How exciting!" Ruth giggled as she tightened the corset on Y/N. "Oh no my dear, it is just a way to say thank you. This can hardly be considered official."
"Well that's even better, no?" Ruth smirked "if it's unofficial, that means less restrictions." She winked at her but before Y/N could reply she pulled the laces so tightly it took her breath away.
—-
The King had to admit it felt good to have someone else sitting at the table with him again. He had been feeling so lonely each meal without his beloved siblings. Y/N was of course no replacement for them, but it was still nice.  That's what made him so emotional, he told himself, that's what was making his heart beat and his hands a bit clammy. Not at all the sight of Y/N gently biting down on the meat and her tongue darting out to lick off a drop of sauce from her lips. Not at all the thought of those lips on his body, his dick. Licking it, the way she licked the spoon. The King had to admit his trousers were starting to feel a bit tight about halfway through dinner. They weren't talking much, mainly because all conversations had to be initiated by the monarch and he was busy trying to contain his semi boner.
As it was customary, the guest got up first and after bowing to him, and showing off a magnificent pair of breasts, Y/N was led back to her chamber.
Edmund also quickly made his way back to his quarters. He had barely entered the room when he palmed his dick through his pants in a desperate attempt to feel relief. He was quite unsure what to do now, he felt strange that Y/N had this effect on him. He blamed it on his grief, making his emotions all over the place. Never before had someone had such an effect on him, not without trying at least. This was obviously a sign that he was unstable.
Nonetheless he quickly prepared a bath and slipped into it. He sighed as the warm water covered his pale skin and he felt his muscles relax. Now, finally, his hand slowly went down his chest and then his stomach until finally reaching his length. Edmund couldn't possibly hold back the moan which left his lips the second he felt that firm grip on his aching cock. He began pumping slowly, trying to make the pleasure last. He closed his eyes and let his head fall backwards onto the rim of the bathtub.
Sometimes when masturbating he asked himself if Althea could hear him, not this time though.
This time his thoughts were utterly occupied by a certain someone, her lips, her eyes, her voice, her intellect, her talent, her absolute smoke show of a body. Before he knew it he was desperately pumping his cock barely holding back a moan of her name until he soon reached one of the most intense orgasms he ever had.
After calming down he concluded that this was pent up energy, he wasn't actually attracted to Y/N he just needed an outlet.
He looked at the reflection of the room in the big window facing the ocean. He would have almost caught Althea standing in the slightly cracked doorway, dick in hand, panting, if Edmund hadn't been too occupied with justifying his most recent sexual fantasy to himself.

Nobody's Son Nobody's Daughter
Part III
hello my loves, here is the thrid part to my fem reader x Edmund fic! they're finally getting to know eachother!
The first two parts can be found under this tag as well :)
___________________________________________________
When they arrived at the castle, the woman was given a room. The servants had suggested one of the sister’s rooms but upon seeing Edmund’s stare turn ice cold and his hand reaching to his sword they quickly corrected themselves and assured him she would be staying in a guest room.
“What do you intend on doing with her, your Highness?” Althea inquired walking behind Edmund into his office. “Keep her here, for investigation. If she really did kill these men then we have to find out why and how and if she didn’t then maybe she saw who did it and can help us find them. It would also be good to find out who she is, I don’t want to risk her secretly belonging to these men and plotting my own murder. Command the guards to stay by her room at all times, even and especially at night. At least until we know who she is I don't want her to use the darkness of the night to her advantage.”
Althea looked off to the side, he knew better than anyone how valuable the protection was that the loneliness and anonymity of the night gave.
“And make sure somebody is watching her balcony and windows as well, if she was hiding in a window and remained unnoticed by us she has to be a very skilled and stealthy climber.” Edmund flipped through his maps, trying to find one that had an emblem similar to the one of the men in the ruin.
“My Lord, if you suspect her to be an enemy why not put her in the dungeon ? Surely she would not be able to escape so easily from there.” Althea had regained some confidence and looked down at the table with Edmund “Because, my dear Althea, she could very well also be an ally. And as of now I have no reason to imprison her. She did confess to committing homicide but you and I both know that I publicly declared the killers of my siblings to be exempt from any protection by law. Thus, making their killer immune to punishment as well. Even if I wanted to, I simply could not imprison her. I refuse to be a leader who imprisons people because he feels like it, I have to stay true to what I said.” He said calmly yet seriously.
Edmund looked over the maps once more without success. He slowly closed the book and looked around helplessly for another document that could provide insight. When he was unsuccessful, he sighed quietly and turned to look out of the window.
“Besides, I have wanted them dead, haven’t I?” he whispered and continued looking out of the window for a few long seconds.
Then, very quickly, he turned and left, explaining that he would look for more books in the library.
Althea stayed behind, a bit stunned by the sudden action. He then nodded and began putting the documents back.
While walking to the library, Edmund passed by the now occupied guest room. The door was currently open as a servant was carrying in fresh bed sheets. She was about to close the door behind her when she noticed him. She was a bit startled but quickly regained her composure “Oh my apologies your Highness, I didn’t notice you there.” she excused herself but was interrupted by Edmund “It’s alright, please, if you may, I would like to go in and have a word with our guest.” he said softly. She blushed at his gentle words and quickly ushered the other servants to leave with her. Edmund thanked them as they hurried away and told him to be careful. He stepped past the guards and into her room. She was standing on the balcony and looking over the land. She didn’t seem to enjoy the view but rather to examine it.
“I believe there is no need to introduce myself. However, I have yet to find out who you are.” Edmund said standing in the doorway. “Indeed King Edmund, I know who you are. As I said, it should be of no importance to you who I am. But if you must know then I will tell you. I am Y/N, I’m from the kingdom of Yuvak. I come in peace. I believe we have, or perhaps I should say had, the same enemy.”
Y/N looked at him slowly letting herself take in his expression. He was far less expressive than when they met mere hours ago. She had been told of his ability to remain unreadable and she understood why people said that about him. Except she felt that she could read him, at least partially. This wasn’t necessarily due to her previous experience with kings in general but more so what she had seen of him in the ruin. He had revealed a great deal about his priorities and emotions within these few minutes. Y/N also put on her best neutral expression and waited for his response.
Edmund nodded knowingly. Suddenly, he felt that he had made the right decision by treating her like a guest. The Yovak kingdom was undoubtedly one of the most powerful ones around. They stood out for their incredible diplomacy and astonishing management of their people. Their people were well educated, healthy and free people who could cooperate well with their heads of state. No civil war had taken place there for at least a millennia and they were masters at resolving conflicts as peacefully as possible. This is what made Edmund step back in his thoughts. He knew that Yovak people were well trained warriors. While they were strictly against any form of war they were still very well prepared for the risk of being attacked by a less pacifistic state. How could a Yovak woman attack and kill so many men when she herself didn’t even appear to be harmed.
Perhaps she was an outcast, perhaps her violent tendencies had led her people to use her as a mercenary. He noticed she wasn’t wearing their army’s symbol so she was not one of their soldiers.
He was about to ask how come she could display such behaviour in a different country when he was cut off by Althea carrying in a letter.
“Your Majesty! A letter from the Queen of Yovak. They’re claiming that … she is one of them and that they demand her return.” He whispered into Edmund’s ear. He nodded and whispered back “Tell them we would appreciate her presence as we pursue this investigation. Assure them that she will receive the treatment that any one of our guests could expect.” Althea nodded. He didn’t leave right away though. While Edmund quickly read the letter himself Althea studied Y/N for a while. She seemed unbothered to be here. He didn’t know why but it made him feel uneasy that she seemed to fit in here so effortlessly. He imagined only a criminal or shapeshifter of some sort would have the ability to blend in so perfectly. “Yes, as I said, write them back immediately. We don't want them thinking that we’re holding one of their women hostage.” Edmund passed the letter back to Althea and sent him away.
Edmund turned back to Y/N who was looking after Althea thoughtfully. Edmund couldn’t help but sense a tension between them. Not necessarily negative but also not good. Certainly not romantic seeing as he knew very well what kind of people Althea was attracted to.
“I’ll have to get straight to the point Y/N. Why did you kill these men?” And how, he wanted to add but he felt now was not the time to admit this slight admiration.
She looked back into his eyes and thought for a few seconds “I had no choice, Sir. It goes against what my people and I sincerely believe in but it was simply defence. The men, their leader, he had gotten a hold of me and was … threatening me. I had not intended to kill him this quickly but his head … he had been moving differently than I anticipated and I unfortunately hit my target straight on. His men of course then started their attack on me and I had no way of escaping. I apologise, I seem to have upset you with my actions. It was never my intention to assassinate them, your Highness.” She spoke softly and calmly but her voice was very intriguing. Edmund had to admit, it was a pleasure to listen to her. “Very well then” He sighed a bit. “I suppose I must thank you, I cannot say that I would have granted these men mercy. You were probably less cruel towards them than I would have been.” Y/N listened intently and her lips formed into the faintest idea of a smile “I made sure they died a quick death. I am not interested in the torture of my target, your Majesty.” Edmund thought about her words. “My condolences, King Edmund” she added “I believe losing all your siblings so suddenly and tragically must be horrible. Especially considering you ruled the kingdom together since childhood.”
Edmund held back a chuckle at the fond memory “Thank you Y/N. I cannot lie, their death has struck me hard. However I will persist, I shall not let my grief stand in the way of my duties as King of Narnia. Although it is with a heavy heart, I will carry on their legacy. They were fine rulers, I shall take upon the task of filling their void the best I can.”
Y/N was about to reply when the door suddenly creaked open and a few servants quickly hurried backwards. Edmund smiled as he turned back to Y/N “I will go and continue my research, please expect my servants to come and fetch you rather soon. I was hoping for your collaboration on my investigation.” With that, he turned and walked out nodding a hello to the servants.
“Oh did you see his smile? Isn’t he just marvellous?” One of them swooned but she was quickly shushed by the others
“We’re terribly sorry to have eavesdropped on My Lady” the one standing closest said bowing to Y/N. “Oh do not worry, I understand it must be intriguing to have a stranger stay here.” She gave them a polite smile and resumed her observations of the surroundings.
The servants brought in a fresh change of clothes for Y/N “please, My Lady, if you will, change into these gowns before meeting with the King. It isn’t exactly common practice to conduct research with him in blood stained clothing.” One of them explained quietly before they all went back out, closing the door behind them.
Y/N nodded at the servant’s words before picking up the clothing. She quickly undressed and then changed into the undergarments before taking a closer look at the dress. It was a pretty gown, not very glamorous of course but she appreciated the gesture nonetheless since her dirty dress was indeed unpleasant even for her. Y/N was calmer now, her people had been informed of her whereabouts, if anything were to happen to her, they would know where to look first.
“Your Majesty, are you sure about this woman, can we trust her to let her in on our research?” Althea was following Edmund who was pacing around the library trying to find useful documents. “I understand your concern Althea, but we mustn’t forget that she hunted them down before us. Whether her story about their fight is true or not, she was obviouyl able to locate them or someone she knows was able to. So far we have nothing except their corpses and a crime scene. She said her country had been attacked by them too, so we could make use of her knowledge. Maybe even collaborate with the Yuvak people.'' He added the last part a quieter, foreign affairs had always been Susan's field of expertise, he wasn't even entirely sure how to properly contact a kingdom with such a request.
Althea sighed a bit but ultimately nodded. He didn’t trust Y/N but he did trust Edmund’s judgement and that he would not put them in unnecessary danger. Besides, he had to expect some foolishness from the King he thought. One does not lose their entire family and immediately bounces back as if nothing had ever happened.
“Shall I go get her then Ed?” Althea asked softly, wondering if his friend was actually ready to investigate the death of his siblings. “Yes, please Al, I’ll wait here for you two.”
Althea hurried to the guest chamber and knocked twice before coming in. “Y/N, the King is waiting for you in the library, follow me please.” Y/N nodded and followed Althea with quick and quiet steps. While they were walking she wondered if this had been the first time Althea had addressed her personnally. She felt as if he had a disliking for her. She did not blame him for that, she did cause quite a ruckus after all.
Y/N looked around the library when they arrived. She had to admit she was quite amazed. Rumour had it that this library had been commissioned by Queen Susan who apparently had a great love for learning and reading. This love showed, the library was marvellous with beautiful furniture and magnificent murals and of course an outstanding amount of books and other documents. The big windows let in the wonderful sunlight and lit up the entire room with its many shelves. For a brief moment Y/N wondered if Queen Susan had spent many hours here just reading her beloved books. Her train of thought was interrupted when she saw King Edmund in the corner of her eye.
He was standing in front of one of the shelves and was apparently looking for a book. The soft beams of light lit up his figure as he stood there, tall and strong, reaching for the book. Y/N could see his long lashes flutter as he looked down on the book in his hands. His expression was focused, his eyebrows furrowed and his lips pressed into a firm line. He looked very handsome, so absorbed in his reading. Then, suddenly, he shut the book and met Y/N’s gaze. His expression turned into a polite smile and he moved towards her.
“I’m glad that you’re agreeing to work with us. As you can imagine this incident is not only a matter of my people, I also have a personal interest in this investigation.” Y/N nodded knowingly and inspected the documents that were already spread out on the table in one of the nooks of the library. “So tell me, what do you know?” Y/N took a deep breath as she thought about where to start. “A while ago, in my country, we noticed some young girls going missing. Other women and some men reported having been assaulted in different forms all by strange men who were not native to our land. We assumed that the missing people had also been victims of these foreign men. So, we investigated the abuses and the abductions and all the clues lead us to the same group of men that had recently entered our territory. We investigated them further and found that the violent behaviour they were displaying matched the reports of the victims. We ended up locating their hiding place in our land and we found the missing people… unfortunately, none of the abducted women had survived.” Y/N waited a few seconds to let the information sink in “We had not been able to identify the men. However, some of our neighbouring countries had shared similar accounts of women and men being assaulted and killed by this group. By comparing the victims in each land we were able to conclude that this group appears to be hunting people that were similar in appearance to the monarch of each land. So far our most plausible theory is that their actual targets were always our respective kings and queens and that they simply took a hold of anybody that resembled them in an attempt to catch the real monarch. They then torture or kill them. We think they do this to destabilise our kingdoms, to spread fear and chaos, probably so that their own kingdom can gain influence and power. We were however so far unsuccessful in trying to find out which kingdom they themselves belong to.” Y/N finished and took a step back from the table, observing Edmund and Althea. “So it appears,” Edmund started, “If what you say is true, that in my kingdom they were successful in killing our queens and king.” he concluded solemnly. Y/N nodded “So far yours is the only land where the actual heads of state have been killed.”
Edmund turned to face the window. This realisation made him feel like even more of a failure to his siblings. All the other kingdoms were able to protect their monarchs except them, except him.
“We actually believe that Queen Lucy was in the process of hunting them down. She contacted us a few months ago, seeing as up until that point the Yovak people had been struck the hardest by this group.” Y/N continued.
“Is this where you get involved in all this?” Althea asked with a hint of disdain in his voice, as if he was blaming her.
“In a way, yes, I was sent out to follow the men. That their next location was your kingdom was unbeknownst to us at the time. I also was not the one in contact with Queen Lucy about the matter. I cannot speak for the entirety of my court but I personally was not aware that the Queen and her siblings would search and attack the gang personally. They had not discussed this with us beforehand. If they had, we would have advised them against it of course.” Y/N added, sensing Althea's shift in attitude.
Edmund bit his lip as he looked out of the window. He was feeling a mix of proudness and regret. It was so typical of Lucy to take matters into her own hands and then recruit her siblings for backup. After all, her courageous and bold persona is what had led them into Narnia in the very beginning. With a heavy heart Edmund had to admit that this was probably the truth. It seemed very plausible considering his siblings personalities and even matched up with the snippets of conversations he had overheard in the days leading up to the assassination. Lucy, ever daring, was ready to fight and would have probably gone into that battle alone armed only with her dagger. But Susan, wise, loving Susan had probably caught wind of it and couldn't bear to see her little sister do something so utterly stupid and had no choice but to join her seeing as Lucy was impossible to convince otherwise once she had set her mind to something. And lastly Peter, responsible, caring Peter took it upon himself to protect his precious sisters. It was what he had always been doing, and it would be the last thing he ever did.
Edmund blinked away a few tears as he imagined so vividly the decisions leading up to the tragedy. If only he had been more involved in foreign affairs, if only he had heard more of their plan. He could have joined them! Why hadn’t they asked him? He was by far their best fighter, general of the royal army and a very experienced swordsman. His siblings knew this, they knew that Edmund could fight, why had they not asked him to join their mission.
After a few more painful seconds it dawned on him that they probably left him out on purpose. Not only because strategically it was never a smart move to have all four rulers move around together but also because they had always made it a point to protect their little brother. Even if he protested this, even if he wasn’t the actual baby of the family, since their first time in the magical world of Narnia, the three of them had spent so much of their energy and time trying to protect Edmund.
The King gripped the windowsill and desperately tried to regain his composure. After a few deep breaths and a quick swipe through his hair Edmund turned back around.
“I understand, thank you Y/N for your contribution. I believe that our priorities now would be to identify the men and their motifs and locate them. We cannot risk that even more people fall victim to their scheme.” Edmund declared seriously. Y/N nodded, ready to receive an order. Technically, he wasn’t her KIng but he was an ally and she was well trained in working with rulers so she was ready to collaborate with him.
“Althea, please get in contact with the Yuvak ambassadors. Tell them to bring their research with them. I would like to hold a conference with them and discuss their findings.” Althea had already begun walking after receiving this order when Y/N spoke up.
“Your Highness, if I may, this will be rather difficult. Our investigators are quite protective of their work especially in this case. They will not agree to this request so easily.” She spoke quieter as if she were afraid but still determined and confident in her knowledge.
Edmund took a deep breath. Normally he would have delegated this task to their head of foreign affairs. But this position had been occupied by Susan throughout all of their reign.
The King felt stunned. He would have to give this position to someone else. It was the sensible thing to do, something a responsible leader would have done by now. But Edmund couldn’t. He couldn’t bear the thought of offering his sister’s office to someone else. He wasn’t ready to let them in on her hard work. She was so excellent at it no one would be able to live up to her anyway.
Edmund was slowly drowning in a spiral of grief, fear and guilt when Althea’s voice called him back.
“Surely Y/N can make this happen your majesty. She is here for this very investigation, she could contact their people and arrange a meeting.”
Edmund considered it but sensing that he wasn’t in a good enough state of mind to decide now he just cleared his throat and offered an “Indeed, thank you Althea I’ll think about it.” Before swiftly leaving the library.
The sun had long gone down when Y/N excited the library. She had used the opportunity to look for new information in the Narnian library. She was trying to get back to her chamber, figuring she could move around freely as long as she stayed in the castle. However she had to admit that the castle at night was a tad bit confusing.
She believed she had taken the right turn but she was very obviously wrong when the elaborate murals and stained glass windows clearly indicated that she was in the monarch’s wing.
She was about to turn back around when she noticed something strange sitting next to the King’s door. While examining the creature further she figured it was Althea. Sitting in front of the door, hugging his legs with his head leaning against the wall.

Part II
Nobody’s Son, Nobody’s Daughter
Part I in the link
Hello, this is the continuation of my little fanfic, for the beginning please check out part I :)
Tags: Edmund Pevensie x female reader, slow burn, major character death mentioned (his siblings), mentions of violence. Y/N first appearance!
———————————
At the pained sounds Edmund was making Althea felt his heart break. If he could he would gently pick up Edmund and press him against himself. Gently press his face into the crook of his neck and pet his hair until his breathing evened out and he would sleep calmly in Althea's arms.
The following morning Edmund stood before his troops, no one dared to point out the dark circles underneath his eyes. Especially not Edmund himself. He mounted his trusted horse and led his men into the direction of the old castle where his siblings' dead bodies had been found.
The bodies had of course been removed but Edmund refused to clean up the place. He knew what kind of hygienic risk this would pose but it felt wrong to clean it up immediately. It felt to him like wiping the injustice under which his siblings had passed, it made him feel like he was forcing them into forgottenness.
The sun had barely reached the halfway point when Edmund arrived. Althea was riding next to him. He decided to leave his horse outside and investigate the place. He doubted that the attackers would be hiding there but he was hoping to find clues of who they were and where they went. The scene had been messy and chaotic, he imagined his siblings had fought back. They weren’t the kind of people to back down even in the face of danger. He had been informed that his brother's body was found atop of his sisters. His heart clenched at the thought that his brother's last action had been to protect their sisters, it hurt even more to wonder if his older brother died thinking he saved them.
It was difficult to tell how many people had attacked them. Their wounds were no indication of anything. The wounds could have been from many people hitting them or an intense one on one fight, no one was to tell.
When Edmund entered the castle however, he was taken aback by what he saw.
The big ballroom where his siblings had been found was filled with men. Dead men. The only living thing apart from themselves in there was a small bird that flew out of the now opened door.
They appeared to have been part of the same organisation as they were all wearing the same uniform and carried similar weapons.
Edmund stumbled through the dead bodies quickly inspecting them. Some were still warm, perhaps there was still one alive hanging on by a thread who would be able to tell him who they were and what had happened. He looked at each of them but not a single man was still breathing. All of them had a pierced heart or a slit throat; they all shared a collective look of utter horror on their face.
Whoever had gotten to them had surprised and overwhelmed them.
Suddenly Edmund began shaking with rage, all of his troops but Althea retreated back into the entrance hall, not daring to be near the High King when he was so enraged.
“Who did this?” he spat at Althea not turning away from one of the bodies who was limply laying on one of the shallow steps leading to the throne.
“I- I don’t know your Majesty, their emblems don't resemble any of ours, nor the ones of the neighbouring kingdoms or any I know of even.”
“Did they have something to do with their murder?”
“I'm not quite sure your highness, I’ll go get the physicians to see if their wounds matched up with the weapons of these men” Althea suggested and rushed out to look for the doctors they had brought with them. Despite Althea’s relationship with Edmund going way back he did not understand Edmund’s anger.
Even after the physicians confirmed that the numbers of men, their weapons and their estimated strengths matched up with the crime scene they had found mere days ago. Edmund was fuming.
He felt humiliated and embarrassed. He had wanted to avenge his siblings, not some blood hungry maniac with surprisingly good knife skills.
He felt wronged, like he had been robbed of the opportunity to prove that he was willing to take revenge and set an example for his kingdom. This invalidated not just his feelings and desires of redemption but also the integrity of his promises as a king.
Edmund bit his lip, focusing on navigating the situation the best he could so as to not embarrass himself even more.
He believed it would be best to not draw any more attention to this so he sent his troops back under the preface that they should try and look for whoever did this.
“But how?” wondered Althea, the only one who stayed behind. Edmund had not asked him to stay but Althea never considered himself “one of the King’s men '' and only followed Edmund’s orders if directed at him personally. Edmund didn’t protest this, at least he could claim they had investigated the scene instead of being faced with accusations of sulking in a dirty ruin instead of taking care of his country.
“No soldier could ever do this, not against so many men of this size and with these weapons. Even if these men were inexperienced, a child could defend themselves with such a sword” Althea prodded at one of the bodies with his foot.
“I don’t know Althea,” Edmund confessed quietly. He had since calmed down and tried to find a clue of who had been here.
“No man could have done this.”
“Because it wasn’t a man” A voice spoke from above them. Edmund immediately drew his sword and pulled Althea close to him, knowing Althea rarely carried weapons and even rarer knew how to use them. He was one of the most intelligent people but he wasn’t exactly a good fighter. Edmund knew this, he was not about to lose his best advisor to a rampant soldier.
“Show yourself! A proper fighter wouldn’t hide away from his target!” Edmund spat looking seriously into the empty space around them.
They heard something shuffle behind them and turned around just in time to see a woman drop to her feet from above. She must’ve been hiding in the niche of the windows above.
“No man could have done this because no man did this, I did.” She said calmly.
Edmund lunged forward and pressed her to the wall shoving his sword underneath her chin to keep her neck from moving.
“Who are you and what have you done to these men!”
The woman looked at him with a serious expression although not hurt or worried. She studied his face before answering. She looked at his dark brown eyes filled with tears, his eyebrows furrowed in a furious expression and his mouth pulled down as he used strength to press her to the wall.
She felt sorry looking at him, if anything he looked desperate.
“One would assume you’d be happy to know that the men who killed your siblings paid with their lives, King Edmund.” She spoke softly.
Edmund was breathing hard, trying desperately to remain calm as well. Not only was she taunting him with her relaxed manner but he knew now that she knew who he was. He was no longer a hurt man looking for revenge, he was now King Edmund and he had to protect his reputation. It couldn’t come out that King Edmund threatened a complete stranger that was found in the ruins of a castle.
He let go of her but as soon as she made a move he pointed the tip of his sword to her throat “I said, who are you.” He repeated, calmer this time but still obviously enraged.
“My identity is of no importance to your Highness. I came here not in your order, I was sent by my people in an attempt to investigate these men. They had killed and .. taken advantage of many of our women, my intention had been to spy on them and figure out their next move. However one thing led to another and I .. was forced to make a decision.” She explained ignoring the blade and looking straight into his eyes.
“I mean no harm to you or your people King Edmund, I wish only to fulfil my duty, your Highness.” She added a few moments later.
“Edmund,” Althea whispered “If anything she’s with us, take the sword down before you hurt her.” Edmund appeared not to be listening, his gaze still fixed on the woman monitoring her every move.
He did, however, lower the sword. “You’re coming with us. I understand that you are not part of my rows but nonetheless you are now involved in my affairs. I command you to come with us and as King I cannot accept a rejection of this order.” Edmund grabbed her by the arm and dragged her along. Although she had no trouble keeping up with him and wasn’t fighting his command.
Althea looked after them with a pained expression. He wasn’t ready to blindly trust this woman but he couldn’t deny that she intrigued him. Perhaps she had lied but who would lie about murdering 15 men. Some people boast about their experiences but very few try to get convicted of a crime punishable by death willingly. Although the assassinations of the Pevensies was no ordinary crime. Besides, she had not seemed even a tad bit scared even when the King's infamous blade, which had taken so many lives, was pointing directly at her throat. She remained calm and formed a somewhat diplomatic answer. And now she was walking next to Edmund just like that, if it weren’t for the tight grip on her arm one might assume they knew each other, trusted each other. Suddenly, Althea felt a faint sort of pain. One that he usually only felt in the dead of night when he was looking into his tear stained pillow.
He shook it off and quickly caught up to the two.

Grief is a goodbye from love. It is the final gift we receive when we have wholeheartedly and honestly loved and were loved. It is the flag we wave around that screams “look at me, I was loved. I loved, I still love” and so we must carry our grief with pride and hold it high for it is proof of the sincere emotions we felt for one another which transcend life and death. We should cherish the grief and welcome it into our arms like we once welcomed our loved ones for it is their gift goodbye. And yet we run from it. We run from it until it finds us.
Edmund was currently running from it. Or rather towards it, seeing as he was trying to eliminate the source that caused it.
The men that had taken the lives of Edmunds most precious beings, his beloved siblings.
When Edmund heard of his sibling’s death he had long been aware of it. A wave of pain had overcome him. He had felt as if he had lost part of his soul and in a way he very much did. The boy who had burged into his chamber was carrying a message his heart had already received. Moreover he knew that their death was most unfair considering he was the only one deserving of being killed. they had been good people through and through their entire lives, they had been true to themselves and their morals.
Edmund couldn’t say the same for himself. He had betrayed them and risked their lives for his foolish desires. He was the only one deserving of being killed. He knew in his heart that he had betrayed them once again by not dying instead, by being spared of this terrible faith, by not being with them when they spoke their last words.
He felt himself a traitor of the highest degree.
His first thought had been to take his own life. To join his siblings and apologise to them. But he realised this would be the weak way out. If he wanted redemption he would have to suffer for it. He could only redeem himself and avenge the people closest to his heart if he lived through the pain.
And if he killed whoever took their lives. His siblings had been noble people, they rarely resorted to killing, even in times of war. Edmund wasn’t as pure. His soul would be tarnished anyway, there was no need to hold back now, not when his heart was aching and his lungs were burning and the image of their tortured faces haunted his thoughts.
He walked through the now empty castle. It was as if all life had left it, for Edmund it did. The kingdom was relieved in a way because they had still one monarch left. They had lost their compassionate and loyal queens and their brave king but they still had someone left, even if it was their least favourite one. Edmund had known that the popularity of his siblings surpassed his own by a landslide, but now was not the time to focus on his image amongst the people he ruled, not for him anyway. In a way he felt he had also betrayed his people by being the only one left, they didn’t deserve to lose their rulers the way they did. He knew taking over their responsibilities would be a difficult task but one he was willing to take on.
The king gathered his best swordsmen and ordered his smiths to forge the best weapons they possibly could.
“They’ll be long gone by the time we arrive, your Majesty, they most likely left right after .. after the .. the incident” Althea tried to suggest. Edmund turned to his advisor and studied his face. He had a look of worry in his eyes mixed with a hint of pity. Edmund frowned at the idea that Althea was pitying him. “Perhaps they have, but their elaborate scheme couldn’t have been orchestrated by a far, they must have had a base somewhere near the temple. If anything it should give us a clue to where they are headed next.”.
With that Edmund got up and moved towards the door “We leave at dawn, I suppose you’ll be joining us?” he turned slightly to Althea but only enough to catch a glimpse of him in the corner of his eye. “Of course your highness.” Althea replied softly, bowing to his King. “Good, thank you for your help Althea, I appreciate your support” Edmund replied quickly and left the room to disappear into his chamber.
It was late at night, he knew that he should be in bed right now but how could he ? How could he rest knowing his sibling's killer was still out there? How could he ever rest again knowing he had failed to protect the only people ever dear to him. Ever since the murder Edmund had been consumed by this disgusting, rotting guilt. It had infested him as soon as the life left their bodies and was now consuming every part of him. It ran through his veins and blackened his heart, draining it of love and replacing it with grief. It crawled up his body. Higher and higher until it reached his eyes and blurred his vision. He saw nothing but injustice and evil no matter where he looked. His own reflection disgusted him by far the most. How dare his cheeks be rosy with life and his chest beat with every breath of air he took.
He slowly undressed in the dim candle light and mindlessly put on his sleeping gown. He could have washed his face but there was no use in doing so for him. On one hand he was far too exhausted and occupied by other things to care for himself. On the other hand, probably unbeknownst to him, he refused to take care of himself as a form of punishment. He didn’t deserve to be taken care of, not even by himself when he hadn’t taken care of them. His physical appearance was to be as soiled as his soul. Everyone looking at him should know that he was a filthy traitor. He would run around dirty for the rest of his life if it meant repenting even a fraction of the sin he committed.
Through all his self inflicted pain and unavoidable grief he made an attempt to be rational and laid down in bed.
His sword, which used to belong to his older brother initially, and his armour were waiting by the foot of his bed, ready to be worn and used for revenge.
Edmund laid in his bed tossing and turning trying to shake off all these memories and thoughts of guilt. Even once he fell asleep he was moaning and twitching uneasily in his sleep.
Althea pressed his ear to the wall of his chamber that shared a wall with the King’s room. He listened intently to all the sounds Edmund made regardless if they were conscious or not. Secretly he hoped that Edmund would call out to him. Not as a King looking for his advisor while making rational decisions, but as a friend, perhaps a lover, looking for a shoulder to cry on, searching for a safe space to be vulnerable in. He was grateful to be so close to Edmund throughout all this time, but even with his held back discrete demeanour he could not deny that he was secretly lusting for the King. He had breached Edmund's privacy many times. Sneaking into his Chamber during bath time just to catch a glimpse of his beautiful porcelain skin, glistening in the water of the bath. He would relish in the sight of Edmunds dark hair clinging to his forehead and he counted the freckles on his lovely rosy cheeks.
Althea would take himself in hand and imagine those strong arms grabbing him and pushing him against the nearest wall. He imagined those plush lips hungrily devouring his and these hard abs to press against his slender frame. He would come thinking of deep brown eyes, pale skin, strong muscles and a large cock inside of him.
Afterwards he would feel soiled yet satisfied, he would retreat into his Chamber and go on as normal while Edmund was none the wiser.
A dirty part of him was glad they died. It made him the one closest to Edmund and gave him an opportunity to develop their relationship. He was aware that his desires were selfish but he wished so dearly that in his desperation and pain Edmund would turn to Althea in search of love. And Althea would give it to him willingly. He was ready to give up his body and soul for even the slightest touch of the King.
Edmund was aware of Althea's sexuality, in fact he was an active defender of Althea in front of everyone who thought to criticise who Althea chose to love. However he wasn't aware that Althea only really cared for one, Edmund himself. Edmund had never even suspected it, perhaps it was a lack of self-esteem or perhaps he thought their deep-rooted relationship was based on strictly platonic feelings. Either way the king never entertained the idea of being Althea’s object of desire.
Althea had no intention of correcting him. As much as Althea longed for his touch and craved his affection he would not dare risk their good bond. Even if it left him heartbroken he would rather moan into his pillow in the dead of night then potentially lose his king forever.
