Farewell, McSpirk Holiday Fest

Dear Followers and Participants,

It is with great sadness the Moderators of this Fest announce the closing of McSpirk Holiday Fest, @mcspirkholidayfest .  This blog have been in operation since 2015 with the sole purpose of promoting fanwork challenge events where fans collaborate and generate content to showcase the OT3 Kirk/Spock/McCoy.

Times are clearly changing here at Tumblr.  While at the onset McSpirk Holiday Fest has felt less of an impact by the restriction of content than some blogs/communities, we Mods cannot in good conscience ask our prompters and Creators to limit the ideas they wish to create/share via our holiday challenges.  This Fest has always supported and celebrated everyone's vision of McSpirk regardless of rating, universe, gender, or storyline.  Though the Fest will shortly become inactive, we still encourage fans to celebrate McSpirk as he/she/they see fit.  

McSpirk Holiday Fest wishes to honor each person, named or anonymous, who submitted prompts and to laud every Creator who gave time and effort to fulfilling someone else's wishes for McSpirk.  We Mods can say we had a wonderful time running this blog in large part due to the beautiful spirits of our participants.  Thank you for four amazing years of stories, art, music, and other works.  

Coming soon, you will see McSpirk Holiday Fest's final post - a compilation of Rounds since our inception, a list of Creators and other details.

Everyone, gather round for a McSpirk party!

2018 hasn't been an easy year for many folks, and even in recent weeks Tumblr has been a leader of the chaos in our lives.  McSpirk Holiday Fest’s staff has felt the weight of the upheaval deeply but, calling on our collective determination, we decided we had to see 2018 through to the end.

And our Creators agreed.

For that, we must take a moment to applaud each of our seven participants and give them a big THANK YOU.  Without you, Creators, the final Round of 2018 could not have carried on.  Despite adversity, this fandom has truly experienced a season of sharing!

Prompt by @trek-tracks : It’s always an ice planet. Bones hates ice planets. But Jim wanted snow for the holidays, and so “shore leave” is on a damn cold rock. It’s beautiful, though, so Bones decides to go exploring to see what he can find for Jim and Spock (or possibly he hears something that triggers his doctor sense). Now he’s trapped behind a whole bunch of ice that’s decided to crash down, and of course he brought a medkit, not a phaser. Someone’s bound to find him eventually, but he hopes he has all his extremities by the time they do. He also hopes it’s the Captain and the XO and not a hostile new lifeform. Or if it’s a hostile new lifeform, he hopes they’ve heard of spiked hot chocolate. It’s always an ice planet.

Prompt by @whomerlockwood :  I love fluffy Christmas/winter McSpirk! What about old married McSpirk? Something like in Star Trek IV, but with a snowy winter scenery. They are in a small rustical hut for a few weeks. Maybe they are skiing. Or building a snowman. Something like Spock feeding the birds in the snow, Bones showing more of his family recipes to them and bickering with Spock about it. Spock freezing pretty fast (so he is always lulled in fluffy warm clothes). Jim reading in the evening or playing chess with Spock. Bones finally trying to teach Spock in poker (maybe Spock is secretly good in it?). Jim cooking breakfast for them (maybe pancakes?). [Gosh, I could go on with such things for hours, haha]. Jim goes hiking with all of them. Maybe it’s one of the occasions where Spock is not refusing a Brandy. More Spock and Bones bickering and they’re both asking Jim who’s right and Jim only sighs. Bones and Jim cooking together. Ok, I think I have to stop now, haha, you probably got the idea of what I’m suggesting. I don’t expect someone to make it all in one fanfiction, but a few aspects would be great though.

It may be difficult to believe, but we’re on track to celebrate the final holiday season of 2018.  Thank you to everyone who signed up as Creators and/or submitted prompts for Round Five: Winter Holidays!

Prompt by @trek-tracks:  Missing, you say? How about a TOS version of TNG’s “The Next Phase,” remixed with “The Tholian Web”! Bones insists on leading an aid mission to a damaged Romulan ship against everyone’s better judgment. When they try to beam him back, he’s gone. Except he’s not really gone - he’s just out of phase with reality, thanks to new Romulan cloaking technology (they had to develop something new after the Enterprise stole the last one), and he’s walking around the ship trying to get someone to notice he’s still alive. Now, everyone expected Spock and Bones to argue when Kirk was missing back in TTW, but the assumption is that Spock and Kirk could just continue to be an unbeatable dream team by themselves (Spock and Kirk may have assumed this as well). Without Bones, however, and feeling constantly spooked, the cracks in command really begin to show. Then, well, perhaps the Romulans show up - and only the out-of-phase doctor can save the Enterprise by haunting the hell out of everyone.
