Quick question for Filipinos on this site:

Are we considered Asian, Pacific Islander, or a combination of both?

I was taking a census, and when I came to that question, I was stuck. Going home, I decided to it up and came across several different opinions. Some say yes, others say no.

I know Philippines was a part of Asia geographically, but I was still stumped. Growing up, I never looked Asian. I have a naturally tanned/darker skin tone and my hair is more wavy/curly. My father, who has similar features, has claimed to feel closer to Pacific Islanders as well, as growing up he was faced with a lot of colorist ideals that the Philippines is infamous for.

Another point is that a lot of the art festivals in my area typically have Pinoy and Pacific Islander artists, rather than Filipinos being in other Asian art festivals and such. Filipino tribal tattoos also have similarities to those of Pacific Islanders.

I don't mean to be culturally insensitive, but as someone who is part of a family where a lot of our culture has been lost and is trying to be replaced with western ideals, I am trying to look for answers. I am genuinely curious as to what we should consider ourselves, and I would really appreciate input.
