My Weird Hobby: Inventing Card Games!
Today's Game: Siege
Tumblr media
Players: 2-4 recommended, or as many as you want
Estimated Play Time: ~10 min(?)
Materials: 1-2 decks of cards and some friends :)
How to Play:
Shuffle all cards and place them in a face-down pile
Starting with the eldest hand (clockwise from dealer!), each player takes their turn. During their turn, they may either: (a): Draw a card and place it (face down) in either their back ranks, rotated horizontally ("royals") or in their front ranks, vertically ("peasants") (b): "Challenge" another player, if both players have at least one royal. Both players exchange peasants, and whoever has the greatest amount of points (J = 15pts., Q = 18pts., K = 20pts.) gets to take a royal from the loser. If the royal is NOT a face card, the winner may keep taking royals until they find a face card.
The first player to get five royals wins! You can make this number bigger for a longer game. There are also some modifications you can add to the "challenge" mechanic for more interesting gameplay.
Happy sieging!

My Weird Hobby: Inventing Card Games!
Today's game: Monster
Tumblr media
Players: 4-5 recommended, or as many as you want
Estimated Play Time: ~15 min
Materials: 1 deck of cards and a few friends
How to Play:
One player is chosen as the "monster" and they write down their "health" (a number from 1 to 60, inclusive) without showing it to any other players
Each player that is not the monster is dealt 5 cards.
Starting with the player clockwise from the monster, players take turns discreetly showing the monster a card in their hand. The monster subtracts that many points from their health. (A = 1, J = 11, Q = 12, K = 13) (ᵖˢˢᵗ: ᶦᶠ ʸᵒᵘ ʳᵘⁿ ᵒᵘᵗ ᵒᶠ ᶜᵃʳᵈˢ ʰᵉʳᵉ, ᵈᵉᵃˡ ᶠᶦᵛᵉ ᵐᵒʳᵉ ᵗᵒ ᵉᵃᶜʰ ᵖˡᵃʸᵉʳ!)
If the monster's health goes to or below zero after step 3, they announce it to the players.
Players take turns guessing how much health the monster initially had. The player closest to the correct number is awarded 6 points, or the points are split if players tie (you might need to adjust the number of points, depending on how many people are playing)
The player clockwise from the monster becomes the new monster. Repeat until one player reaches 20 points (you might also need to adjust this number!)
I'm making these for my D&D campaign. Please let me know if you try them out, or have any balancing changes!

Someone mentioned this on Youtube, I really like the idea of Dia using long ranged weapons. I think a sling with bunch of rocks could work. Or throwing knives, similar to Rutile.
