30/30 Horror Movies

This was such a banger!!! The cover for the movie does it such a disservice. It comes off as a scifi movie instead of an absolutely hauntingly beautiful thriller. It’s got a gorgeous 70s aesthetic with the style and the shots but it has a solid plot and manages to be 80s in all the right areas. This movie absolutely has influenced final destination and it follows and tons of other movies. I loved it from start to finish. The lead actress was phenomenal but so we’re all the other characters. It’s a slow psychological build but when it gets crazy it goes absolutely insane! Totally worth a watch

29/30 Horror Movies

I didn’t like this one at all. The special effects for the demons looked awful, which was weird because the special effects for the gore were really good! I just hated the look. Maybe because I hate 80s rock and the music and the clothes and the hair and that was basically the whole movie. As much as I love 80s horror I hate all that the aspects of the 80s including the other films and this one had too much of that in it for me. Spoiled the good bits of horror. I think other people would really enjoy this more than I did, definitely a personal preference here.

28/30 Horror Movies

This was a decent 80s slasher. The beginning and middle was kinda slow and just alright but I loved the end. When it’s just the killer and the girl it goes on for so long. She really makes her way around the entire empty campus and they do a lot with that. She makes lots of attempts to hit him, trap him, call for help. She really makes a good effort! The fall from the 6 story tower was sick and then she stabs him like 40 times lol Love the final shot of her rocking on the stairs as the credits roll. Definitely get where Pearl took inspo from when it came to that credits scene. I think a lot of 80s horror movies do that at the end and I just didn’t notice until this year

27/30 Horror Movies

Needed to watch this after I did so many classics last year and I read the original story. This one is super old so it’s a silent film but I thought it was a really beautiful adaptation of the story. I think I will watch one Jekyll and Hyde movie every year so I can see a lot of the different adaptations. This one seems like the best pace to start.

26/30 Horror Movies

This is a great classic 80s slasher. The beginning is a little iffy and a little slow but the ending somehow is amazing. Like once the cliche slasher deaths are all done and you’re just left with the one girl things really get good! Her performance was amazing and her versus the killer lasts for the last 1/3 of the movie and thank god! The lighting, camera work, acting, and plot choices at the end were all phenomenal. Her being drugged let’s them get away with some very surreal choices which add to the tense and scary atmosphere. The final moment with the killer in the suit shocked both of us and actually gave me chills! Mid movie, fantastic ending! Worth the watch for sure

25/30 Horror Movies

This film. What can I say. Obsessed. I find it surprising that the director is a man because the entire thing felt very feminine to me. Beautifully shot on old film and has great camera work and editing. Genuinely we’re not able to guess the plot twist or the exact plot between two horror buffs. It has a great start, great ending, and great kills in between. The female characters are incredible and the performances were equally strong from each woman! The mask itself was fucking scaryyyyy

I love this movie and this is now in my top 10 for horror of all time and I’ve recommended it to a ton of female friends

24/30 Horror Movies

This is a great practical but also psychological horror movie. The simplicity of the situation but the very real terror that it brings. The acting of both characters is great and the fact that it’s more about her personal demons than the actual situation she’s in. Her struggle throughout is very captivating and even though I knew the plot and the ending already I still loved it from start to finish and was surprised by parts. Even if you think you know what this is about it’s still really worth the watch! No wonder it’s such iconic Stephen king. Blake references this all the time so I’m happy to finally see it

I thought this was a decent conclusion to the entire saga. Not enough of the old lady obviously but that can’t be helped, she’s just my favorite character. Love the child actor now that he’s actually grown up and still got to play that same character. He did good and everyone else in it was good too, even the new girl. Not enough jump scares or fucked up shit with the further or either of the demons that terrorized the family in the films. The original red demon is really scary and they should have played that up! But for not being super scary I still thought it was a good conclusion

This was a good backstory to the original film. I liked the parts about the native Americans and the founding families. The choices in who to kill weren’t great, the sister was a great character and I hated that she died. The other girl was pretty boring and underdeveloped and she lived. The character of both dads were great and well acted, but the other characters were a little flat in comparison. The ending was a bit anticlimactic but it does line up perfectly to flow into the original film which I like. It was decent. I think what I really wanted was more diced up shit with the burying and coming back to life. Or something with the sematary that was more creative and original.

21/30 Horror Movies

This one is another possible favorite Stephen King for me. I really like the plot with the grumpy reporter following the story of the killer and becoming way too invested and risking his life. The competing female reporter was a nice touch and she gets better and better as the movie progresses. The fact that the vampire killer becomes obsessed with the reporter too and they are both fucking with each other and chasing each other in their little planes! Honestly loved it apart from the look they gave the monster in the big reveal at the end. Could have definitely looked scarier and less goofy. But I did like the ending too, it felt very fitting.

20/30 Horror Movies

What can I say, it is true to the name. It’s a funny concept so they make the execution funny. If anything the acting was a little too bad and the effects could have been better. The dialogue was cheesy and the hair and makeup weren’t great. I’m guessing they didn’t have a huge budget so they did what they could and they went for a comedy horror tone but it wasn’t super funny or super scary so kinda failed. I liked the sloth puppet, somehow the h character of the sloth was the best one in the movie. And I liked that he was super hard to kill like Michael Meyers! Funny to watch with lots of friends when everyone is stoned

19/30 Horror Movies

This one at least tied up things from the first movie. I thought both were about the same quality but at least this is a direct continuation because the first one had so many loose ends it made it a bad movie and this one tied them up and gave some good backstory into the characters and the nun as well. I like the imposition that the nun will be featured heavily in the next conjuring film and that the wife may have the same eyes as the girl and the saint. Should make the next conjuring movie pretty good! But it couldn’t make the nun 2 into a great film. At least it was pretty good
