THE ANDROMEDA BOOKS

Here's the first story introductions for my complete rewrite of Endless Summer. I've included very rough visualizations of what I would want the covers to look like, more to establish a tone for each book though. Let me know what kind of scenes you'd be interested in me posting. I won't be posting anything that ruins any of the twists though - more to show the change in the characters and the setting.

THE STORY CONCEPT

This rewrite is an exploration into the first timeline. Before Lo became The Endless and the timeline where all of the group presumably died. But what if that wasn't the full story? What if the origin story was more different than anyone ever really imagined? What change had come to the island throughout 1000 timelines? What happened in the five years Lo was in that pod and even more curiously, what happened after? Were the relationships between every character always the same? All these questions will be answered in this book.

BOOK 1 SYNOPSIS

A last hurrah on the mysterious island of La Huerta for a group of 12 young souls swiftly becomes odd when they arrive and everyone is gone. While some seek to know more, others still want to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. Conflicting perspectives and an island trapped in multiple stages of time. There may be other unknown forces at play. Meanwhile, Lo is having disturbing visions about elements of the island, the people around her and a constellation that could be her saving grace or her downfall. After an unexpected death rocks their defenses, they will all have no choice but to seek out the truth, while watching out for the shadow of the powerful owner with a plan, Everett Rourke. The real question is, will they be able to trust each other?

Some of the book's elements - Takes place before the five year time jump. The island is plagued by new mythological/technological creatures, as well as familiar ones. Main romance is Jake and Lo so Quinn, Estela and Sean will not be treated as love interests because I literally hate love triangles and would rather write one romance as the focus and explore other side romances and see what I can do with them. More backstory and main plot links for all characters. New lore for Lo (so she's not an alien). New island lore also. Unexpected dynamics and duos; for example, Estela and Michelle. Beware - character deaths.

BOOK 2 SYNOPSIS

As Lo wakes up from five years of being frozen in a pod, she has no memory of where or who she is. The first face she sees is one she recognizes but cannot remember. A man who saved her from her slumber. After escaping Rourke's facility, she's greeted by an island that had succumb to ruin. Her mind is taking her back to the events of the last five years, as she tries to find the people her former self gave everything for. What happened to them and who was still out there, in a world so close to its end?

CONCLUSION

Hope these are good introductions to what I have planned. I have a character specific one coming soon but I wanted to outline the concept of the stories before I did anything else. Please feel free to provide any feedback you have. I love knowing how I can make it better <3

Hi. Thank you for bringing up these points. I’m always open to discussions like this one and I hope I can answer all of your points in this. My story is currently in very early stages and it’s a complete rewrite of Endless Summer that takes place within the first timeline (as of right now, anyway). I’m adding my own plot points and taking away some of the elements that PB included. I made this post a month ago when I was figuring out which characters would fit into the story better, as I didn’t know if I could juggle all 12 of them in one book. Since then, I’ve been constructing character studies, seeing how they could serve the story of the island as well as their own arcs (if that makes sense).

Grace is someone I want to do better than PB did. At first, I’ll be honest I really didn’t know what to do with her. I really liked her in the books and wanted to keep her in. She was always interesting to me because she did develop over the three books, especially the second book. Her confidence builds over the course of the story and she uses her intelligence and strengths to keep her friends alive. In book 3, there is definitely a point where she becomes static in a way, excluding her Ember of Hope scene as that is obviously focused on her character. Everybody gets their moments of course but i’ve always wished Grace got more. Don’t really want to spoil much but I’m about 3/4 finished with her character study and I’ve built some more interesting relationship dynamic ideas for her and found a way to make her more integral to the story. I want all the characters to have a fixed purpose in the story and try to give them all satisfying and individual endings, which is something i’ve always had a problem with what PB did. That’s why I left her out of the poll since I’ve already decided to give her a stronger storyline. And I agree that Grace is important for Aleister’s character too and I want them both to be better characters, especially since Aleister serves more of an anti-hero role then he already did in my version. Hope that clears up some of my thoughts about Grace. If not, feel free to let me know :)

Diego is staying in the story. I was never going to remove him. He’s too important for characters like Lo (MC), Vaaryn and his individual arc, within the island and himself, is something I can work with very easily. An idea i’ve been exploring is the dynamic between Diego and Raj. I really like it in the books and I want to do something with it, not really sure what yet though. Raj is still a tricky one for me. He is arguably the heart of the entire group and I don’t want to take him out of the story. He is integral for the groups’ relationships and that I was never in doubt about. It’s more what he does for the plot points about the island specifically, since my story is very focused on the state of the island for when it takes place. No one is axed yet and I don’t want to remove anyone. Eventually, I will find a way to build on every character and I think it will be much easier for me when I start Raj’s character study.

I have already completed drafts for Lo, Sean, Craig, Aleister, Jake, Estela and Zahra. I know their arcs and their endings and so far, I’m happy with them (may be subject to change tho cuz im indecisive). I’m currently in the middle of working on Grace, Michelle and Mike. The extracts I’ve written have been very focused on the completed ones and they will be posted soon. Pretty soon after I will start writing and posting scenes for Grace, Michelle and Mike.

Sorry this is so long but I hope this was an alright response. I really appreciate this feedback. I don’t want to write a book that just falls into the traps that PB fell into. I want to elevate the story the best I can. Thank you :)

i was messing about on artbreeder to try and create some endless summer characters to try and get some inspo to write. thought i'd share some interpretations of Lo (my MC) and i tried to do Jake but I don't think it looks like him or even the faceclaim i have picked for him. I'll draw them myself eventually.

LO AT THE BEGINNING OF MY BOOK

It took me so long to figure out how to make her look how I wanted her to and to actually get the Outpainting thing to put her in a jacket remotely similar to Jake's. But I like it.

LO AS ANDROMEDA

I love this. I just hate that her right arm is fucked. The Andromeda aspect of MC is a big part of my book so I wanted to see what she'd look like as the chained princess.

JAKE

This isn't giving Jake really to me but it's the best I got.

I've been trying to give Diego more to do with the Vaanti and Lo (My MC) so he fits in more. I'm sure it'll work out. And yeah, Grace's whole character arc came down to Aleister in the end and she was never really given depth. She could help his character arc I guess but there's no point keeping her if she's not really her own character, since Aleister's arc could always be helped by others like Estela :)

ENDLESS SUMMER CONCEPT BOOK SNIPPET 2

Here's another snippet for the book I'm writing. This is a draft of the opening. It's nowhere near finished but I wanted to share what I wrote. Feel free to provide some feedback about the description given here. It's a scene containing Lo's (MC) first vision. All the characters are here for now but it may not stay that way and I will be sharing more of these <3

FIRST VISION

Everything was silent. Unusually silent. Lo couldn’t even hear the whistles in the wind or her footsteps on the path. A path her body was forcing her to follow, while her mind seemed ready to escape. It was as though time had stopped all around her, as she was nearing a destination. No movements in the typically tantalising trees. No sign of wildlife; instead, everything was hibernating. 

  An unfamiliar kind of night had dawned. In fact, it was an entire universe. As Lo peered upwards, stars hadn’t left any part of the sky untouched. Sprinkled everywhere, as a fluorescent full moon stood proudly centred in the midst of it all. She had never seen a sky so full, never in the city. Despite everything else being frozen, the night still carried its character.

  Peace may have been exerting from the space above her but an eeriness creeped up her spine, as she continued to wander towards something unknown. In front of her looked like nothing. The frightening part was it being nothing. Whatever had warped her here wasn’t prepared to give her any answers. Even as she closed the distance between her and the darkness, it was still as pitch-black as the sky back home. In reality, she wanted to stop but her body wouldn’t allow her to. 

  Finally, Lo reached the dust. At this point, her mind was enraged, fighting to get away from whatever lurked beyond. Again, her body ignored it all and dragged her into the gloom. For a couple seconds, there was nothing - not even a sign that she was still moving. Then the mist cleared and Lo could feel her feet on the ground again. Her mind had paused its bitterness, going into complete shutdown.

  As her vision focused, she found herself in a foggy forest, an ominous air surrounding her. For the first time, control of her body returned to her consciousness but it was done commanding her to run. Curiosity had already taken over at this point, and was in full effect. Before her stood 11 graves, memorialised with handmade wooden crosses and engraved with names she mostly recognised. All were completed with what appeared to be freshly dug holes and all but one was empty. With a lost expression, she analysed each and every one.

  Quinn Kelly. Estela Montoya. Sean Gayle. Grace Hall. Aleister Reed. Michelle Nguyen. Raj Bhandarkar. Diego Soto. Craig Hsiao. Zahra Namazi. 

  All of these names, Lo recognised. Seeing all of her old friends’ fates laid out like they were nothing but cattle waiting to be slaughtered. Then, her eyes scanned the final grave, the only one with a fate already sealed. Jake Mckenzie, it read. Despite this being a name she was unfamiliar with, tears threatened to pour just from the sight of this particular resting place. Defeated, she hung her head, an urge to mourn welling up within her. Then, she noticed something that definitely wasn’t there before, even when she was wandering.

  Dog tags clung to her thin neck, swaying despite time still feeling stuck. Overcome by a breakdown, Lo grabbed hold of them, desperate to understand the meaning of them. Releasing a sharp exhale, she lifted her head and all her tears had suddenly dried. One last look at the sky revealed that one specific constellation was outshining all the others. 

  Andromeda.

Right now, I can't find a reason to keep Raj or Grace in the story. And i'm struggling with Quinn and Diego but I really don't want to get rid of them. My version is changing a lot of the story so it's hard to fit them in.

i just finished re-reading this entire series and oh my god. kinda sad that i never finished it because i had some good ideas/concepts. there's a lot of bad writing in here though and i clearly barely proofread these chapters but i see why i loved writing it so much <3

i feel like certain main character deaths in endless summer would've made sense for some of them. A lot of them didn't feel necessary after points in the story. I know The Endless was keeping them alive. Maybe an exploration of the first timeline would show the impacts of those deaths.

Then, there's characters I wish stayed alive. Like Mike. There was so many places his character could have been used once he was saved.

ENDLESS SUMMER CONCEPT BOOK SNIPPET

I've just decided to post a tiny snippet of what I'm writing. If anybody wants to read more, I'll post more. I finally have the right motivation to finish this and I'm really excited about it. It's not the same concept as the book I wrote five years ago about endless summer and never finished. This is very different. It's a whole rewrite. We'll see where it goes. If anyone likes this, I can post my ideas and hopefully get some feedback.

Andromeda

“Motivation was never really your strong suit, was it?” Lo joked, trying her best to lighten the outside mood and take in his words on the inside. After rolling his eyes, Jake stretched a smile that she hadn’t seen for a while.

  “No need for the past tense. I’m right here.” He kidded back, shifting so he was leaning over her. “Motivation’s still not my strong suit.” 

  Jake’s smile widened, as his eyes scanned over Lo’s delicate features. A half-smile managed to slip through all the stress plaguing her in that moment. Maybe it was the grin on the man staring back at her. Seeing him above her, the messy but mesmerising night behind him, somehow made that grin he carried that much more powerful. It outshone the endless universe that surrounded him. His words may not have carried much motivation but his smile definitely did.

  “You better stay here.” Lo affirmed, gripping the dog tags around his neck that swayed back and forth in the small gap between them. Every time she focused on them, a shiver would shoot down her spine, as if they were always trying to tell her something. Something to do with the pilot wearing them. Ignoring the shiver this time, she flicked her eyes back to Jake. “I mean it.”

  With that, he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead, brushing wisps of her hair out of her face. “Where the fuck can I go?”
