Why platonic path always throws me into Milo Malcom romantic one? Did I do something wrong, or is there no platonic path written at all 😭

No, you didn't do anything wrong. There is a bug in the second book as I am working out how the paths are going and due to all the splits, unfortunately the platonic one is getting the least amount of attention to get fixed. Eventually it will but my mind sometimes gets a little too full with how much I have to do and keep track of in a story.

Everytime I replay the game, everytime the angst hurt me, my mind plays some blooper kind of scenes as coping mechanism 😔🤟🏻

I need to know what the blooper scenes are now! Milo tripping while dancing. Hazel failing at baking. Gabriel not being able to get his sword out of his scabbard. Belladonna maybe with a dress mishap.

Each LI's reactions to ttrpgs like dnd or pathfinder or whatever homebrew nonsense (lovingly)? Like being offered to play it, or how they would or would not participate in it.

Because I just keep seeing during the game nights in book one, one of those (headcannon wise) just had to be a oneshot or a ttrpg or a campaign. It just (headcannon wise) had to be. Ooh, I wonder how dear old pen (my favorite) would feel.

Milo would play the cool rogue who constantly would roll a one and would try to seduce everyone he meets.

Hazel would probably want to play an herbalist of some sort. Try to reach things in a very diplomatic way. She would try to be a voice of reason and I think would actually get really sad if she hurt a character in game.

Malcolm would be the GM.

Pen I think would play but very quickly try to midmax everything and get kind of bored. They are a bit of a wildcard with their attention span.

And then there is Belladonna and Gabriel. I actually think the two of them would get intense about any sort of game like that. They would know the rules to an almost scary extent and would pour over a battle mat, moving little mini's around to find the best strategy to move forward. The rest of the players would get drunk while they stategized.

Pen maybe be TECHNICALLY correct when they respond to "I missed you the most" but I will say I tried every route with the same MC in book one and wasn't fully committed to any of them at the end, and after one convo with Pen I was all in soooo....

But more seriously, I am so excited to see where this sequel takes us, the new characters are so fun and I love seeing more of the Night Market as a world. It's such a strange and quirky place, and I adore how the sense of discovering the Night Market becomes so personal given...we are the Night Market.

(ps: m!Pen and f!Pen both have great descriptors how am I supposed to chose?!? time to flip a coin I guess XD)

Both versions of Pen are wonderful. I just love the idea of them and their personality has been a lot of fun to play with. I'm very excited to write more of them as the story goes on. I'm really glad you had an instant connection with them too. :)

Kinda related, kinda not. How would each LI (plus pen, of course) react to good ol Withers from Baldur's Gate 3? I mean, assuming Withers isn't completely disorientated by being in the night market. Oh, pen would be interesting.

(All I can think about is the:

Player: Skeletons aren't supposed to talk.

Withers: Correct.

Player: Are you going to elaborate on that?

Withers: No.)

Gabriel: "If you are here, you will be of use. Come and register and we will find a position for you."

Belladonna: Immediately aligns herself to help in any way she can because someone like that on her side is invaluable.

Hazel: "I had a talking skeleton once. I used to dress him up and have tea parties with him."

Milo: "You okay, man? You look bone tired. Get it? Bone tired."

Malcolm: Sits in silence with him and enjoys the quiet.

Pen: "Get out of my market. Now."

I just realized this when I was rereading the previous chapters, it was said that people not from TNM won't come back when they die does that mean we won't see B, G, and Milo ever again? 🥺

Bella is hot... but she's also soo stinking cute lol, especially at the end of the recent chapter! I can't wait for a proper reunion with her and MC. I'm dying for that first embrace!! also, Hazel, I miss sweet hazel!! I have such a huge soft spot for her, I'll do anything for her!

Those few months where I was gone and not writing were hellish. It was getting so bad that I was worried my creativity was going. That I was having no passion for the story. It really just ended up being that I had a lot going on in my life that was pulling me in several different directions so my brain wasn't calm enough to write. But, that's what happens when you live the life I do. Anyone that knows me in my personal life is often used to me calling them and going 'guess what I'm not doing'. I'm surprised my mother doesn't have gray hair.

But, to answer your question, Bella and Gabriel would for sure not be reborn. The Knowing has to firm of a grip on the both of them.

And Milo would be reborn, but not in the Night Market. He would be reborn back in his land.

！﹒dear author, i really admire the way you do your storytelling. i’m going to be honest, at first i really didn’t like your take on interactive fiction. i finished book 01 and i was super frustrated by the ending, especially since i was a milo-mancer! i was used to reading IFs where the author’s tend to write the story to “satisfy a select group of player’s wants”, so playing the night market was completely different from the games i usually play. it wasn’t until i did a new play through with the previous perspective from the first play through in mind that i absolutely fell in LOVE with the story. it’s genuinely such a complex work. i really like how the MC is technically “the main character” (quite literally…) but you still make sure to focus on the CAST, too! thank you for responding (if you do) i hope you have an amazing day!

i’m a newbie writer and i hope this isn’t invasive, but i would really like to know what process you went through to create “the night market” ! especially the characters and world building. how did you craft them? did it take a long time? since it’s interactive fiction, do you use a writing outline or method to help guide you through writing all the different paths?

those are all the questions i really have. you can respond with anything related to writing that you’re comfortable with sharing. i would just like to know about your writing planning in general, since i find it hard for me to really get started.

That is a really good way to put it. There are for sure stories that cater to a players wants. And I have always said that it is a valid form of storytelling and gaming. I just don't enjoy them as much so I won't enjoy writing it. Thank you so much for giving me another chance. I really appreciate it.

As for my process? I can give you my process and then firmly state that you should not use that process. LOL

I don't plan anything. I don't use any of the wonderful writing tools that are out there to keep chapters, lore, characters, world building, etc. I don't even know how things are going to end or what I'm going to write for each chapter. I am one of those writers that goes in blind and firmly believe that my characters tell the story. The only thing I can say that I do that probably helps me is write these characters a lot outside of the Night Market. I RP with them. I talk them out loud. I get to know them so well that they come to life when I'm writing and then I just let them wander.

Now that has of course bitten me in the ass before. Because I have had moments where I'll introduce something and then forget about it. Or realize much later that something should have gone in two chapters back. But, I learned a long time ago that if I storyboard anything out, I won't write it. The last two years is the most consistent writing I've ever done and I've been trying to write full blown stories for the last fifteen years of my adult life.

I don't recommend this process to people. I really really don't. But if you are someone that needs to have the story unfold for you as well, then maybe just try getting to know your characters enough. Because then you can put them in any situation and know exactly how they would respond.

I want to tell you how much I love Belladonna, she is the most fascinating character I have ever come across and believe me when I say that always look forward to her scenes. Honestly her route is so so so so good, like when I started playing it I was interested from a physical aspect of it but then this scene happened and everything else just evaporated.

I love this scene so much and it has all my heart, because after this it didn't matter to me that my MC gets physical with Belladonna or not, i loved the idea of Bella being kind to the MC as a person and I am a sucker for that. I love such comforting gestures they matter more to me than the intimate ones(i.e physical). This is what I like the most about her that apart from being a strong and confident self-made woman at the heart she is very caring and that's incredibly sweet. I just love her so much. Thanks for such an amazing character :)

From a very early concept of Belladonna, I wanted her to be the femme fatale look. I wanted her to be sex in heels. Everything about her was taken from that position. And while she has that kind of feel to her when she speaks, because she just has that kind of sultry vibe, she is one of the more aware RO's. Concerned for the MC. Observing most of what is happening around them and then using it to infer how she treats MC.

The romance route is going to get deep this book and I am very much looking forward to it.
