Every one of you weirdos has an obscure TLT blorbo that's in like 2 scenes (or in some cases, No Scenes) so I think I too need an obscure TLT blorbo who is in 2 scenes or No Scenes, cause all my faves are... The main characters, and that's so boring.

I recently saw this TikTok video from a *new* femme who was like “I thought I’d have less competition being a femme lesbian, but you’re telling me a masc/butch/stud person can be stolen away from me by another masc/butch/stud person?” She asked if masc4masc/butch4butch/ or stud4stud is real. It was such an out of touch TikTok that made me CRINGE. The way she portrayed her insecurities, like she DESERVES masc/butch/stud identifying people just bc she’s femme. And this whole “I’m so jealous and scared another masc person is going to take my masc” made me want to throw up. Like???? We aren’t objects for you to collect and keep. We are PEOPLE. I need people to stop treating masculine queer people like objects.

it was indeed rhetorical. i get why people like ianthe (tho i don't) but I just don't think harrow does. they did kiss with tongue but it was very mechanical and because of what harrow was doing - at no point did it feel like she was actually into it.
Why have we agreed that Harrow is into Ianthe? Is this just because half (more like 75%) of the fandom is thrusting after Ianthe?
My interpretation is that Harrow definitely finds her aesthetically beautiful (because she looks half dead and that's Harrow's type), but she does so "not completely willingly" and she is uncomfortable in her company and with her advances (now admittedly part of this is grief and repression but still). She also doesn't trust her or enjoy being around her, she just kinda... Doesn't have a choice.
Like, as someone who is demi, (which imo so is Harrow), I understand objectively what's supposed to be attractive to Ianthe but I find her personality far too repulsive to actually be attracted to her (not that I would say I'm attracted to any other tlt character, but hypothetically.) ((sorry ianthe stans she's the wrong kind of bad gay to me.))
And i think Harrow would be far too aware that Ianthe is a manipulative bitch to develop anything for her beyond an aesthetic appreciation at best and unhealthy dependency at worst.

Femmes on TikTok treat mascs/butches/studs like we’re ugly and undesirable. they’re like “I always see 10/10 femmes with 2/10 mascs/butches” as if being femme is somehow better than being butch or that we’re not attractive enough to be with femmes. I also see masc shortage this masc shortage that. Maybe if yall treated butches/mascs/studs better you wouldn’t be experiencing a shortage. I sure don’t experience masc shortages! But that’s cause I don’t objectify them and put them down

She wished the barrier had taken her hands. She wished she had thrust herself into it—become that big seething mass of flesh and meat and tendrils—ruined her body, just melted it; come back messed up, so that nobody could want her body but her, so that it would be hers and nobody else’s.
This was a horrible thing to think. Nona hated herself immediately and fervently.
god!

continuing the topic of the night (nona was good actually), something about how gender was articulated in nona felt a lot more … expansive, i think, than the predecessors, despite the fact that there was relatively little material shift in the scaffolding around how gender is constructed in the series. like, tmuir was doing a lot more with the gendered possibilities that her worldbuilding opened up to her than she had in the others, i think.

@greatandquestionablecontent noted that my discussion of Paul and St Paul didn't touch on the latter's awful views on women and sexuality.
And while I very much hope those aren't relevant for our new Lyctor-ish buddy Paul, they very much do haunt the narrative of The Locked Tomb.
We get one in-world bit of theology in Gideon the Ninth: the Sermon on Necromancers and Cavaliers, which talks about how the Houses understand the relationship between necromancer and cavalier and god. And it's pretty much St Paul's Letter to the Ephesians, ctrl + F'd for necromancy, with a few other infamous Pauline verses thrown in for good measure, especially from 1 Corinthians:
A necromancer who must leave her House and fight requires a swordswoman./For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh. - Ephesians 5:31
Our necromantic characteristics make us more like the Emperor...the necromancer and the cavalier are no different./[A man] is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of the man. - 1 Cor 11:7
As [the Emperor] was once man, and became God...so were we dead and became alive./And as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive. - 1 Cor 15:22
Their love is the love that fears only for the other: the love of service on both sides. Some have tried to characterise this relationship as the cavalier’s obedience to the necromancer, but the necromancer must be in turn obedient to the needs of the cavalier without being asked or prompted: theirs is arguably the heavier burden./Loving one another with the charity of brotherhood, with honour preventing [anticipating] one another. - Romans 12:10 (I suspect this one is also meant to call to mind Ephesians 5's instructions for wives to submit to their husbands, while husbands are asked to love their wives like Christ loves the church - an instruction proponents of so-called Biblical gender roles will often describe in language similar to the Sermon as being the bigger ask.)
The love of the cavalier for the necromancer, and the necromancer for the cavalier...cannot be libidinous./But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity...because these are improper for God’s holy people. - Ephesians 5:3
So cavaliership very much reproduces the gendered asymmetries of power found in many traditional Pauline-flavoured interpretations of Christian marriage.
But when you look at some of the invective around a romantic or sexual necromancer/cavalier relationship, it's coded rather more as homophobia.
The Sermon on Necromancers and Cavaliers hedges around explicitly condemning necro/cav relationships as specifically against the will of god, but makes it clear that's very much a view held within the Houses:
"after a myriad of thought about the matter, marrying your cavalier remains taboo at best. There have been those who have argued eloquently that it is traitorous to the ideals of the Necrolord Prime."
While St Paul isn't the only source of egregiously homophobic Bible verses, he's responsible for a good chunk of them, and the idea of this specifically defying the designs of God is a recurring theme...
It's worth noting that not all of what's generally described as St Paul's writing likely actually is. And Ephesians, which features so strongly here, is one of those "pseudo-Pauline" letters - a sort of Pauline fanfiction written to fill in perceived gaps or deal with issues as they arose.
But it feels oddly appropriate that the Houses' theology of gender cavaliership, itself an imitation of St Paul, is so strongly inspired by an imitation of St Paul...

I think that fandom glosses over how fucked up the Alexandrites are: In Doctor Sex, Pal jokes about Cam being stolen away to the Alexandrites--but Cam is a CHILD here. IDK, the Alexandrites are straight out of the Handmaid's Tale, and it's just another example of how the Empire both enables and commits sexual violence against people
YUPPP. we've talked about this so much in the discord server because it really is so wild. it certainly doesn't seem like non-necromancers on the sixth choose which soldier division (hot and competent, hot and incompetent, ugly and competent) they're pulled into, meaning they're being judged on their physical abilities and attractiveness, which is both beyond fucked up and imo def plays into the cavalier-as-female gender binary analysis. and it also seems like non-necromancers don't have a ton of options (in any house) if they don't train to join the cohort — non-necromancers cannot rule, and how high they can ascend in house society seems limited. i might be mistaken, but it certainly seemed like all the scientists in doctor sex were adepts considering their psychometric abilities, and camilla says that if she weren't pal's cavalier she would have gone into data entry. which, once again: one section of society is categorically barred from even taking the tests that would allow them to rule/gain significant political say, based on a seemingly immutable characteristic? rings a bell...

I'm listening to the first two chapters of Gideon for like, the 7th time and the funniest thing is that while Harrow spent the whole night digging in bones, Gideon absolutely expected her to pull some bullshit like that and checked the landing floor three times - once with her boot and twice by sight and also the floodlights. It's just a constant game of cat and mouse between those two.

the idea of public restrooms as "women's spaces" continues to confound me. you know who I hope is in a public bathroom when I go in?? no one. I would prefer no one else be in the bathroom. and if someone else is in the bathroom I am going to ignore them as much as possible. I did not go into the bathroom to connect with other women. I went into the bathroom to piss and/or shit. it's a toilet's space, not a women's space. shut the fuck up and let trans people piss and shit in peace. let's all continue to avoid eye contact with each other and any and all interaction in the toilet's space.
