A few weeks ago, on holiday, I brought a pair of boots. They were so cool and stylish. Cute but I still felt masc in them. I wore them two or three times.
The day before we left, I noticed one of the soles was acting odd. I took a close look and realised half the sole on both shoes had come loose. I was devestated. I loved those boots. But they had been fairly expensive, and to be falling apart after a few outings was not good value.
So, begrudgingly, I took them back to the shop (little local shop, though the shoes tended to come from overseas) and explained the problem.
I'd brought shoes from that shop before and they'd always lasted a good while before developing problems (usually with the insole).
When I took the shoes back, I was thinking I'd get a refund and lose my boots. But instead the owner apologised and said she'd get them fixed and couriered down to my hometown once they were finished. Free of charge.
A week after we got back, I got a text informing me the boots were fixed. I spent the weekend excited to finally be able to wear my cool new boots (keeping in mind it's summer down here). But Monday came and no boots. I got distracted with work during the week and finally realised I had never gotten my new boots in the post. Worry turned to dread. Had they been lost? Had someone stolen them? Had she forgotten to put them in the post?
I should have texted her, i thought. And meant to put it on my list of things to do. Each time I thought about it, I worried what I should write. So I'd put it off for another time.
But, today, as I say at work eating my lunch, I got a text. My boots have arrived. Everything is right with the world. For now.
