The current protein panic (am I getting enough protein? Is my child getting enough protein? Am I going to die unless I eat sixteen kilos of protein per day???) is so weird to me, because the average non-athlete American gets something like twice their daily need of protein daily from just eating a crapton of dead animals but less than 50% of their fiber need. I'm struggling to get my fiber, and I eat fruit and veg with every meal + a smoothie and fiber supplements most days, while I hear a lot of people say they don't even eat fruit every day.

Worry less about protein; unless you're an athlete or a vegan who hates beans, you're probably fine. Worry more about fiber.
